Does your business have a regularly updated, well-managed blog? If the answer’s ‘No’ then you are losing out on many of the crucial benefits that blogging can bring you.

Why should my business blog?

As Google continues its fight with ‘unethical’ SEO, the search engine giants are increasing the impetus on blogs and fresh, informative content. While blogging isn’t the be-all-and-end-all of SEO, those businesses doing it are gaining a great advantage over those who aren’t. A regular blog is also a fantastic way of driving traffic to your website as it gives those people who may not want your product/service another reason to go to your site. An informed, well-written blog can also boost your business’ reputation and authority within the industry as you will appear to have a wealth of knowledge and, as they say, knowledge is power.

What should my business blog about?

It sounds obvious but it you should always write about what you know; if your business is in the car industry, blog about the latest BMW or how to maintain a healthy, clean engine. A blog is your businesses opportunity to show that you are knowledgeable about your industry and this will help grow respect and trust amongst others in your industry and potential clients. When considering what to write about you have two main options; a contextual blog that is based on news from your industry or a ‘how-to’ blog that provides the reader with advice and guidance on a relevant topic. When you are looking for blogging inspiration it is recommended that you look into your industry and try and spot any burning issues or questions that have been left unanswered. A good social presence within your industry is very beneficial as you can track conversations and debates and react by blogging about anything that seems to be gaining a lot of attention and engagement.

Who cares what my business has to say?

If you are in a certain industry, no matter how niche, there will always be an audience for what your business has to say. However, unless you promote your blog to this audience your blog will get lost in the information jungle that is the internet; this is where social media really plays its part. Though there are millions-upon-millions of people on Twitter, Facebook Google+ etc. there are ways of filtering through the masses and ensuring your blog gets seen by the people who will care about what your blog has to say. Use industry specific hashtags on Twitter or post your blog in relevant communities on Google+, this way you are putting your blog right in front of your target audience and if the blog is touching on a certain, interesting topic you will see your website’s traffic increase. If your blog is a high standard, you will then receive retweets and other types of social shares which will provide your business with a great deal of exposure and a massive SEO boost.

How often should my business blog?

When it comes to blogs the focus should always be on quality rather than quantity. Though Google love a steady stream of new content, if you’re blog isn’t attracting any social engagement it could do more harm than good. Publishing 2 blogs per week is an ideal number but if you don’t have the time or resources aim for just one blog a week. If there is a week where you are unable to blog at all, go back to an old, popular blog and promote that instead.

Blogging truly is a superb tool for a business looking to make a real online impression and gain an air of authority in an industry. As content becomes more important and social communities become larger and more information hungry, a well-written and well-promoted blog could give your business a massive boost.

Marketers across the world have been forced to incorporate social media marketing strategies through peer / social pressure.
One thing for certain is that some businesses have made a killing through their social activity.

Yet some of the house hold names in marketing claim that Twitter is not even worth there while despite having hundreds of thousands of followers because the ROI is dreadful.

So what is the difference between a successful social media campaign and the ones that flop?

Firstly I want to emphasis that most internet marketing means can work for all businesses if implemented, tested and improved accordingly. Through my experience I find that most businesses that dabble in social media marketing are not finding great ROI. Having said this, most businesses that dabble in any form of marketing tend to find little ROI from their campaigns.

My suggestion to all business owners is to address social media marketing professionally. I fear that many marketers become deluded that thousands of followers and friends will result in hundreds of online sales. Unfortunately social media marketing does not work this way. If it were that simple, there would be many multi-million pound businesses.

The most important aspect of social media marketing is attracting the right audience, who are your prime target market? Are they the ones that are following you? If the answer is yes, then we are off to a great start. If the answer is no, then you have your work cut out. You need to attract your target market into following you. This can usually happen if you leverage something for free, such as a report or tips.

Once you’re in the right ‘crowd’ it’s time to utilize your audience. Through various meetings I have received all types of feedback from only using social media for branding, whereas others suggest to use it to prospect customers.
I have seen both of these options work for businesses and even within the same industry. So what does this tell us?

Put simply, there is no written law for social success, however you need to be doing social media marketing. If you dabble, you’re not going to have any data or results to Asses and judge whether it’s working for your business.

Much like email marketing, it’s best to vary what is contained within your social marketing. In some instances a theme can work and for myself I use quotes and motivational sentences to build my audience. However for my digital agency I don’t just rely on one marketing theme. It’s important to diversify that you share. Just selling is not going to work, unless your offers are incredibly competitive.

For most businesses I suggest that you use social media to attract and send people to your website. It’s important link you update to a highly relevant page within your website. I.e. A high quality blog post, a free assessment or an exclusive special offer can be used as bait. In an ideal world your social campaign would lead to your website, the user enters their details for something free, you then add that user to your auto responder marketing system and in 1– 36 months time that subscriber turns into a sale.

If you are selling services, it’s highly unlikely that you will be able to generate a substantial number of sales through social media alone each month. However, using social media for lead generation, you should be able to build a list of prospects, which slowly turn into a steady stream of sales.

Selling products through social media is very different. As a test, I managed to sell 300 watches through Facebook alone in one month. This clearly demonstrates the true power of social selling!

In summary it’s important to trial and test all forms of marketing. Social media marketing is no easier than any other marketing platform, it still takes time and effort to master. Once you know how to utilize the social platforms, your future months will be very fruitful.

1. Get Found, Be Seen

The number one reason why guest blogging has become popular is its ability to increase your sites exposure. You might ask ‘why would I spend so long writing unique content for someone else’s blog?’. Well, the answer is simply that it benefits you both. Their blog gets known for providing great content from different perspectives and your own blog or website gets increased exposure from their visitors.

Imagine you guest post on a site that has 10,000 unique visitors per month, even though only 1,000 may click through on the link from your article that is still 10,000 visitors your brand or website and even your writing has had exposure too. To pay for that kind of reach would create a dent in your marketing budget. Guest positing is a great way to gain exposure by offering your content free of charge in return for a link back to your own site.

2. Build Relationships

Bloggers are a community, reaching out and contacting other blog owners allows you to build relationships. Opening up regular communications with blog owners means you can build your contacts potentially allowing you further guest posts in the future.

3. Increase your sites authority

The safest most natural and rewarding way to build your exposure and ranking within search engines is with guest posts as part of your SEO. Finding authoritative blogs, those with a PR 4 or a Domain Authority of 40+ that will post an article containing your link is like striking gold in SEO terms.

Don’t be greedy and expect a text link or direct site link back from within the main body of your article. What most blog owners will offer is a link with your author bio. Write a compelling bio about yourself and your site or where you work and link back from there.

Simply, high authority websites linking back to you, shows the search engines that your site is well respected (it must be for a authority site to link back to you) it therefore passes some of this value and authority back to your own site leading to search engines ranking your site higher.

4. Get Your Name Known

The more often you guest post the more your technique and skill will improve. Guest articles will contain an author bio, which is a small snapshot about you and your experience. The more guest posts you write the more readers and blog owners will come to respect you as an authority in your area. Getting your own name known will also lead to an increase in visitors to your website as people look forward to reading more of what you have to say.

Besides growing a following toward you and what you write, great articles will also get shared via social media channels, leading to improved visibility for authors that are constantly writing and publishing great content.

To make sure that your emails don’t get flagged as spam then you should follow these tips to get your customers on board.

You can maximise the click through rates by putting in a bold blue text link, this is proven to work better than a banner because people recognise this as something to click on and it appears to be recognised faster. Both the webpages and the emails can contain a lot of graphics and text which sometimes makes it harder to find out where to subscribe to.

When writing an email you need to think about how you are going to word it, the most important thing is to get the customer to open it so you want the subject line to be as great as possible. Personalise it, the power that this gives you is surreal, and it allows you to change the boring “Hi there” to a much better and inviting “Hi John” or subscriber name. This can allow you to increase both the reading rates and click-thru rates by up to a whopping 650%. Why is this? Simply because your subscribers already feel like they have a relationship with you because you have used their first name.

Another thing to bear in mind is that you need to be consistent. If you are running something like a newsletter or a frequent email publication, make sure that it is sent out and keeps the same look from issue to issue. This way you will make your customers feel like you are being loyal to them and it will help you maintain the strength to your brand and image to your subscribers.

Again back to the subject line, make sure that it is short and catchy. When your email arrives into your inbox then you generally have about half a second to catch the attention of customers, after this they will generally ignore it or delete it. In the subject line, try and specify a benefit that the subscriber can expect by reading you email. In other words try and make the title specific e.g. rather than ‘Our Newsletter Issue #1’ be more specific and put ‘Our Newsletter: 10 Top Tips for Financial Freedom’.

Always include a signature at the bottom of your emails, as it is one of the easiest ways in which to attract more traffic to your website. This signature should mainly include your personal details along with company details and an unsubscribe link to make people feel comfortable and not trapped in.

Your business’s online presence has never been more important than it is now. Over the last year alone – there have been more website created and more online users than every before. The truth is – if your business isn’t online – you won’t be making nearly as much money as those of your competitors who are.

If you are online – you need to be setting yourself apart from your competitors – and you need to be sure that your brand is standing out and being noticed and remembered – more than any of those other companies out there doing or selling the same thing as you.

Web design is one of the best ways you can do this – as it is very often the first impression a new customer of user gets of your brand and product. Good website doesn’t just make you website function properly, but it sets you aside from the rest, leaves a lasting impression and makes the whole navigation and user experience part of the equation successful too. The point being – the more someone enjoy your website – and the more interactive you make it – the more likely they are to return.

Parallax Scrolling is one of the best web-design trends to come out of 2012 – and it’s something that is seriously working for a lot of brands. It’s interesting, it’s different, it’s modern and it’s intriguing – and aren’t all these things traits and descriptions you’d like associated with your brand or business?

At first, it was mainly creative companies and agencies who embraced Parallax Scrolling – but the hidden secret to this web design choice – is that it can work for any niche and any industry. Some of the most interesting examples I’ve come across (and the most successful examples too) have been businesses that fall into “dull” categories – such as banking, finance, tax and corporate legal. These websites and businesses have always previously struggled with the conversion of people visiting their site – to people using and interacting with their content. I mean, it’s hard – especially when your content is about something dry like finance tax evasion.

But using something as simple and effective as Parallax scrolling can work wonders, and here’s why: suddenly you’re inviting the user to play with your website and explore it – which makes them (in turn) more open to the idea of sticking around and seeing what you have to say. You suddenly take your website away from being plain and boring – and make it fresh and visual – which people like (not avoid).

But I think, you have to experience it for yourself before you’ll fully understand this – so here is a list of great websites that have implemented Parallax scrolling to their advantage:

Here are some examples of brands who are doing it right:

5emegauche
These guys use bright-varied imagery to turn something pretty average into something you want to play around with for hours. The website is visually interesting and they have the perfect amount of “surprise” and curiosity too.

Atlantis World’s Fair
I love how this website manages to take something relatively tame and turn it into a hugely entertaining piece of web design. The colour palette they have going on is sheer perfection too – but let’s pay more attention to the awesome way they’ve turned the content on their website into an incredible entertaining story – using the scrolling.

Nike Air Jordan
This is one of my favourite websites that uses Parallax scrolling, I think the creativity that’s gone into it is brilliant and it’s so inventive too. The message of the brand is clear as is the focus of the message too. I love how they convey the speed of the shoe too – simply perfection!

Carmilla Vampire Store
This is a quirky, fun brand – so I love how they’ve embraced their brand personality, and reflected it in the web design too. The horizontal scrolling is fun and even manages to tell a story.

If you’re looking to increase your online awareness or even establish an online presence then I hope that this article helps you order a professional web design at a low cost.

My first pointer to all business owners is to avoid a free website at all costs. They don’t work, your wasting your time and missing out on business opportunities.

Below I have listed several reasons as to why you should select a low cost web design package rather than a free web design service.

Limited Design – You will have endless restrictions with a free website. The website will be built using a basic HTML structure that is not developed to embrace any additional requirements. I must warn you that you will be frustrated by the restrictiveness of the design.

Don’t DIY – In most industries it’s advised not to DIY. This is definitely advised within the web design industry. You require skill and knowledge to create a professional website. So please don’t waste your time trying to build a website yourself.

Brand Destruction – Self-built websites are obvious to even the untrained eye. It’s more costly to damage your brand than it is to contact a web design agency.

Why is it free? – I’m shocked by the number of business owners that don’t even question as to why their website was free in the first place. There are a number of reasons that a website maybe free:

The website was built in 20 seconds using poor quality code.

You will be stung for additional developments to the website.

In some instances companies charge a large cancellation fee.

The website is stuffed full of outbound links.

The website is not even set up to be search engine friendly.

These are all classic reasons as to why a website might be free. As these point identify, your website may not be as cheap or as free as you may have first thought. If it is free there will be some other form of issue.

Credibility – If your website displays the Yell logo or the one and one logo then you are quickly diminishing your brands reputation. Everyone knows that these are Free or very cheap web design companies that offer no value within their packages. Don’t kill your brand.

SOS ¬- Most web design agencies are renowned for providing a poor customer service. However have you considered how bad the service would be if you were to order a free website? You will always be placed at the bottom of the list if anything goes wrong or if you need anything.

Don’t Plan To Fail

Owning a website is not just about ordering something off the shelf, it’s about ordering the complete solution. You need to speak with your web design company to ensure that you have covered all the bases. Your web design specialist will be able to suggest and advise solutions that will help you run your business more efficiently.

The Drawing Board – If you order a poor quality web design then you won’t have the chance to change or tweak any design elements. A quality web design company will be able to present the website and ask for feedback to then tweak and enhance your site to fulfill your needs.

Content Management Systems – Our clients love content management system access. A content management system enables you to manage and edit your website from anywhere in the world. It truly is a must have. I am unaware of any low quality web design company being able to provide this service.

Budget

Whilst a budget is important, the solution you receive should supersede the cost ten fold. I appreciate that most business owners are unsure as to how much they should invest into their website. A low cost web design package will usually cost anything from £97 – £1000. As a rule of thumb, an affordable web designer will charge anything from £60 – £125 per page. So aim for around £75 per page if you’re on a tight budget.

A good quality WordPress theme can play an integral role in a blogs triumph. A high quality WordPress blog accompanied by a very good content is proving to play a big factor in rankings and overall blog success. Blogging experts are aware of all the most influential factors associated with a blogs success. An experienced blogger will advise any newbie to use a free WordPress theme.

Newbies are unable to verify the additional cost associated with a premium WordPress theme, however there is ample reason to make the small investment.

If anyone is struggling to justify the small investment, I share this analogy: If you were to build your house using the cheapest bricks, the cheapest cement and the cheapest builders to build it, would you expect to find high quality, expensive contents?

Of course you wouldn’t and the same is associated with your WordPress blog. Using a cheap and nasty design will only ever damage your online presence.

Similarly, Premium WordPress theme has very important job to do for a blog’s success. Premium WordPress themes make blogs prominent in many ways. From layout style and appearance to backend high quality and effective coding, Premium WordPress themes are always better to use for pro bloggers.

Users and search engines such as Google are able to identify when a blog is using a poor quality / free design. Users are aware since they have probably stumbled across many other poor quality blogs in their time and Google is aware since the coding structure of the blog is exactly the same as thousands of other free WP themes.

A seasoned blogger or Internet marketing expert will be able to identify many reasons as to why you need to use a premium WordPress theme and in this article I will share 10 tips as to why you should use a paid design for your blog.

PROFESSIONAL LAYOUT

A high quality WordPress theme is actually worth around £3 000. This is because the design is built by some of the world’s best designers. The only reason that you can buy themes affordably is because the creator aims to sell a few thousand of the design instead of selling a one off. With all high quality designs there are some definitive differences. For me the biggest benefit of a premium WordPress theme is the layout. The design and presentation of a website is paramount. The layout is what separates a £200 from a £3 000 design.

HIGH QUALITY DESIGN

Premium WordPress themes are superior to all free WordPress themes. Huge template organisations have a host of high quality designers creating awesome designs for resale. This is why you can pick up an awesome web design at a low cost. There are several large template companies that stock an abundance of designs for you to choose from.
By purchasing a premium WordPress theme, you have the opportunity to buy exclusivity of that theme for a sum of £3 000 to £5 000. For some businesses this is not required, however some businesses do like to ensure that their blog is 100% unique from everyone else and this is an option.

SEARCH ENGINE FRIENDLY

One of the biggest benefits of investing into a WordPress theme is the fact that highly qualified web designers have constructed the design and build. Most WordPress developers follow the latest search engine guidelines within their designs. What helps even more is the fact that the website is built on WordPress. Over 8% of the worlds websites use WordPress and search engines can easily access and understand the websites structure. This benefit is probably the most important plus factor to using a WordPress theme for your blog. Many bloggers are fully aware of the additional support a WordPress theme has over any other platform online.

FEWER PROBLEMS

Quality WordPress themes ensure that you avoid the traditional issues with malware and poor coding. Premier themes that you have to pay for typically do not come stuffed with links to other sites. This is a major issue associated with free blog themes.
BONUS FEATURES

Quality WordPress themes come with incredible features and bonus additions that will save you so much time and money when developing your blog. Most themes enable you to access the bonus features via the WordPress dashboard. Most premium themes make it easy for you to edit areas such as the; menus, sidebars, headers, footers, widget zones and possibly a couple of plugins.

ADAPTIVE DASHBOARD

The WordPress dashboard is great for bloggers and the platform is designed to cope for blog expansion. As your blog grows, you will set new categories with experts contributing to specific areas. When this time arises your blog will require new user levels. Thankfully WordPress is designed for this so you can create new authors as and when they become part of the team.

EASY DEVELOPMENT

Premium WordPress theme helps wordpress user and blogger in managing a blog. It will be hard in free wordpress theme to make some certain changes or deletion of some part. Sometimes you remove a link in free wordpress theme and it has functionality at the backend and whole blog does not work when you remove a link of maker. Premium WordPress themes are free-of-such problems and restrictions. You can easily edit premium themes according to your requirement.
Paid WordPress themes make it far easier for you to develop your blog. For example, if you were to change components within a free theme, there may be cross browser or general user issues. However a paid theme is set out in such a way that the blog owner can easily access and develop specific areas within the blog.

SIMPLE CHANGES

What everyone loves about premium WordPress themes is that you can make very simple changes to your blog quickly and simply straight through your dashboard. Most blog owners would like to have the ability to change things like the colour scheme or background within their site, by using a great theme, you will have the ability to make these sorts of changes easily in house without needing to contact your web developer.

PAID THEME VS FREE THEME

There is literally no comparison between a free WordPress theme and a paid theme. Thousands of poor quality blogs are running on free WordPress themes. If your blog has any value then it’s a must that your blog is using a paid theme.

Despite there being growing numbers of people proclaiming that SEO is dead and that keywords are no longer relevant, the fact remains that they are still one of the most important aspects of any online marketing campaign. Without targeting keywords and focusing on them, you would not be doing anything to stand out in front of your target audience. Businesses who say they put no premium on keywords – aside from large businesses that probably have the name recognition to be successful regardless – are simply putting the success of their business in the hands of fortune.

If we approached businesses and asked whether what they did was the result of hard work or luck, we know what the answer would be for most of them.

Keyword Research

Regardless of the topic or industry area, when we think about research we automatically assume a detailed and thorough process has been carried out.
That is exactly what your keyword research should look like; a thorough process with no stone left unturned in your quest to find the best options for you. Of course, the more thorough the process, the more likely you are to finish with a long list of potential keywords. You can only target so many on your website and within your content marketing in order for it to look natural and drive success, so it will be up to you to trim down the list to fit these criteria.

Relevancy

There are still many businesses who target particular keywords despite their relevancy to their website being tenuous at best. The rule is a simple one: all keywords should reflect what you do.

When you see businesses who are struggling despite enjoying high search rankings, it is probably because they do not target relevant keywords, and the people who find them have no interest in what they do.

Remember that a low volume, highly relevant keyword is better than a high volume, irrelevant one.

Volume

Speaking of volume, this can often be the hardest thing to make a decision around. While you will naturally want to look at the more popular keywords, you should also use the Google Keywords tool to look at those that are growing in popularity.

Do you have an opportunity to target keywords that will grow in volume over the coming months and years, and become an established name before everyone else jumps on the bandwagon and makes it a highly competitive search term?

The Competition

If you have a site that is already performing well for other keywords, then you might be in a position to consider highly competitive terms. On the other hand, if you are taking a serious look at SEO on your website for the first time, then it is usually best to target low competition keywords so that you can capitalize on an often low number of searches, but enjoy some early search success.

Keep your industry in mind when gauging the competitiveness of keywords; if you are in a growing or highly competitive industry, such as SEO itself, for example, you might just have to ‘bite the bullet’ and target high competition terms, otherwise you could find yourself targeting irrelevant ones.
The first step to a successful, powerful SEO campaign is thorough keyword research. Get that right, and you will be on the path to great search success in the future.

SEO and its importance

SEO or Search Engine Optimization can be broadly defined as the process or system involved in improving the visibility of a website or a web page during the time of search results. For building a successful website in order to attract the targeted visitors who may turn to targeted customers, the process which is involved is very complicated and specialized since a commercial website cannot be found in major search engines like Google or search directories like Yahoo. Actually SEO only considers how search engines work, what people search for, search terms and keywords and the search engines generally preferred by the targeted audience. Besides, SEO promotes a site in order to increase the number of back links or inbound links in order to increase the flow of traffic. Besides, it always remains updated with the ever changing technology and the website marketing techniques to deliver the best results. For online marketing technology and in order to drive the targeted audience to get more exposure with a view to sell your products and services, SEO can be very important. When you search for the products and services vide the search engines, they ensures that you get the relevant information at the earliest. Actually, Search Engines always gives priority to your website so that you can achieve the best possible results.

Blogging can turn soon into a very satisfying sharing experience. It can help you learn, get new friends, and —why not?— make a small side income as well (sometimes not that small). If you have a writer inside you, begging to come out, and you feel time has come to make it happen, you just need to make a few decisions before starting:

The first decision: one blog or more than one?

When people surf the Internet, they usually face two kinds of websites, and they are used to that: those which focus on one single topic, and those which are a lot more varied and speak a little bit of this and a little bit of that. This is the first decision you will need to make. Going for a single-topic blog can surely help you bring more visitors interested in the topics you are to write about; but multi-topic blogs can bring you a larger audience. Choose carefully, as it will be quite hard to change what you chose later.

If you opt for developing a single-topic blog, you can always create a second or even third blog for the other topics you have in mind. Just remember that having three blogs requires more maintenance than having one; but if you are OK with that, then go ahead!

The second decision: Your own domain name?

When people start a blog, they usually choose to do it under their own domain name. It is pretty safe to do it this way, but it also forces you to pay for a domain name registration, a hosting server and to learn a bit about server configuration. These are not hard things to learn, but some people find it troublesome and try to avoid them altogether. You can always hire someone to set up the blog for you, but bear in mind you will need to call him again should some difficulty arise.

The second path is using a blogging platform which already exists. Many will advise against this because it appears to be less “brandable” than having your own domain name, but there are very successful blogs which rely completely on generic domain names such as Bob Hoffman’s The Ad Contrarian, which uses Blogspot, or Seth Godin’s blog, which uses Typepad. Choose what you find more comfortable for you. If you choose a free platform, you can certainly move to your own domain name later.

Which takes me to the third decision…

The third decision: Will you blog alone or not?

Pretty self-explanatory, but something you also need to think about. Sometimes, bloggers fly alone; sometimes they get together and create larger projects, like virtual magazines. What path will you take?

The fourth one and last one: Your blogging platform

Nowadays there are dozens of blogging platforms, but let’s keep things simple and go for the most popular ones:

WordPress. Famous for being simple to use, customizable to the bone, and for being pretty friendly for search engines.

Blogger. Famous for being one of the first (or was it the first?) free blogging platforms opened for everybody. Google bought it years ago, giving it hardware support to run all over the world.

Tumblr. Designed from scratch, they offer users perhaps the easiest ways to create new posts and customize the design. Tumblr is way more popular than its rival Posterous (which by the way, is closing this April), but unfortunately is full of adult content too. Be a bit wary about that.

Most blogs usually choose one of these three platforms. My advice to you is to take one of those three too.

To create a blog you need:

An e-mail address to create an account.

To create your sub domain, which will be your blog address.

To start using the editors both to customize your template and start publishing.

Alternatively, and especially if you choose WordPress, you can:

Buy a domain name.

Set up your blog to use your own domain name (this includes installing WordPress if you are to use that platform).

Customize your blog and start writing.

Either way, you will start blogging and reaching new people in very short time.
