A key leg is a leg that will grow without you because it consists of at least 4 'Key People' (A, B, C, D).

A key person is someone that does all 3 of the following:

a. They call you (with questions or just to share their excitement

b. They show up (for Conference Calls, Events and Conventions)

c. They do something! (presentations, sign up customers, distributors, etc)

When someone is doing all 3 of these things and you don't have to chase them or remind them, you have a 'key person'. You might ask . . . "I have 15 people in my group and none of them are doing all three things. What should I do?"

ANSWER: Find and sponsor more people until you find a 'Key Person' to start with.

Typically it can take 90 days and up to a year to develop one key leg.

HOW TO DEVELOP A KEY LEG:

1. Find a 'Key Person' Just because you sponsor someone that is excited or well connected does not mean you have a 'Key Person'! I can't over-emphasize this. A key person must be doing the 3 things listed about to be called a 'Key Person'.

When you find one, they will be your 'A' Key Person. Your job then becomes to help them find their 'A' Key Person which will be your 'B' Key person. You might have to work with them to help them bring in 2, 3, 4 or more people to help them find their 'A' Key Person. How will you know? They start doing 3 things:

a. They call you

b. They show up

c. They are doing something!

Its interesting, because typically an 'A' Key Person doesn't need your help, but they are the one you will be working with most often.

After you help your new 'A' Key Person find their new 'A' Key Person (your 'B' Key Person), you, together will now help them find their 'A' Key Person which becomes your 'C' Key Person and so on.

You help your new Key People by doing 3 way calls with their potential distributors to do presentations, answer questions and assist with the sign up and training process. You work in small teams with your other 'Key People' as they come onboard and make themselves known.

Your goal is to build this, 4 levels deep with an 'A', 'B', 'C', and 'D'. All of these people are Key People all working together. You now have a 'Key Leg'. This can happen quickly or it could take as long as a year. You can walk away from a 'Key Leg' and it will continue to grow without you because it consists of at least 4 'Key People'.

As you develop your team over time, you will see these 'Key Leg's emerge that will go 20, 30 or even 50 levels deep. Key Leg's build on themselves and create momentum. Again, 1 Key Leg and you'll have a free car because your car payment and all expenses will be covered by the income from that leg.

When you have your second Key Leg built you will have a free house because your house payment and all expenses will be covered by that leg.

When you have your third Key Leg built you will have job replacement income and you can work from home without the shackles of a boss.

When you have your fourth Key Leg built you will have financial freedom which provides you with discretionary income for investing, education, vacations, etc.

When you have your fifth Key Leg built you have attained true beach money (Typically a consistent 5-6 figure monthly residual income)

*Remember, it's not up to you to identify a key person. It's up to THEM! They will identify themselves by doing the 3 things we talked about earlier:

a. They call you

b. They show up

c. They do something

Q. When my ex-husband died three years ago, we found a copy of his mother's will, which stated that her entire estate would go to him, and if he died before her, to our son. In August, however, we discovered there was another will leaving everything to my son's aunt, who was appointed executrix. She had power of attorney for many years, and now we can't find any information on what should have gone to my son.

My son and I are on disability and can't afford a lawyer. Legal Aid does not handle estates. My son's grandparents loved him very much, and as he is the only grandchild, I know his grandmother would not have done this willingly. Where can we go for help?

A. A little legwork will allow you to get some information. If Grandma left everything to your ex-husband, once she died, he was entitled to leave it to whomever he chose. If your ex died before Grandma, the money should have gone to your son. If you believe there were competing wills, you can go to the court in the city where your mother-in-law lived and research to see if there was a probate proceeding. That will tell you which will was accepted by the court. At that point, you will need legal assistance, but you may be able to find a lawyer who will take your case on a contingency basis.

Chase Bank Customers Targeted Via Texting

Smishing Attack is New Variation of Classic Fraud

Chase Bank customers in the New York metro area have been receiving bogus text messages claiming to be from the bank, asking for account information. A local New York television station reported the phishing attack last week, claiming that "tens of millions of dollars" have already been stolen by fraudsters.

Chase media relations spokesman Tom Kelly downplays the report, saying, "As you might expect, TV is a little breathless on an issue that has been around via email and now texts for a number of years." Kelly says this attack is a variation of phishing known as "smishing." He says the amount of money taken in the attacks or the number of customers receiving the text messages is unknown.

"There was a recent flurry in the New York area, and it affected more than just Chase," Kelly says. "[The fraudsters'] strategy seems to be to send the texts randomly, using the name of large banks in the market, assuming that they will reach a fair number of customers of each bank by sheer market share."

Kelly says Chase works with telephone companies to shut down the toll-free numbers "as soon as we learn of them." He adds that the bank encourages customers to send the bank the phony emails or text messages.

When asked if Chase will replace any money taken as a result of the smishing attacks, Kelly says, "It depends, although customers who share their account information and PIN are making their accounts vulnerable."

As for any perceived negative response from customers about the use of texting to check on their accounts, Kelly says Chase doesn't expect the recent flurry of attacks to have any impact. "Most consumers know from phishing and common sense not to volunteer information like account numbers or PINs in response to emails or texts."

As I write this, it is October 2009. I am going to share something with you about 10-10-10. Your life can be measurably better by October 10, 2010 or 10-10-10.

Where do want to be a year from now? What do you want to have done? What is important to you? To help you gain some clarity with your answers to those questions, let me share a few thoughts from distinction 10 in my book The Top 10 Distinctions between Millionaires and the Middle Class, and something from distinction 10 in The Top 10 Distinctions between Winners and Whiners and something from distinction 10 in The Top 10 Distinctions between Dream Fulfillers and Dream Killers.

Distinction 10 in The Top 10 Distinctions between Millionaires and the Middle Class is:

Millionaires think long term, the middle class thinks short term.
In this distinction I break society down into five groups of people. They are the very poor, the poor, the middle class, the rich and the very rich. Each group of people thinks very differently about money. For example, very poor people think day to day, poor people think week to week, middle class people think month to month, rich people think year to year and very rich people think decade to decade.

One of the keys to becoming financially free and building wealth is to stretch your thinking and planning further into the future. These five groups of people have three primary goals. The very poor and poor have the goal of survival, the middle class has the goal of comfort and the rich and very rich have the goal of freedom.

Seek and you will findyou get what you look for in life. If you seek to survive, you will. If you seek to be comfortable, you will be. But if you seek freedom, you will find it. So another key is to make sure your primary goal is to create more freedom in your life.

Distinction 10 in The Top 10 Distinctions between Winners and Whiners is:

Winners take responsibility, whiners play the victim.
There are three things that you must take responsibility for to create the kind of life you want. They are your thoughts, words and actions. As a man or woman thinks, so are they, or your mentality determines your reality, or what you think about comes about.

Your thoughts are powerful and you must take responsibility for the thoughts you hold in your mind on a consistent basis. If you don't, other people will control what you think about and you will find that you are becoming and doing what others think you should instead of what you want.

There is an ancient proverb that says the power of life and death is in the tongue. In other words you have the power to create with the words you speak. If you take responsibility for your words and speak about what you like, love and want, you will find you are making progress towards your goals.

In order to become a finisher, you must stay focused and take consistent action toward your dream. One of the things that steal our focus is distractions. Two of the simplest ways to handle distractions is by learning to say no to things that are not in alignment with your dream and consistently say yes to the things that are.

What about the distractions that you can't say no to, those things that must be given some attention? You must handle them as quickly as possible. If you allow distractions to build up on you it will lead to disappointments. Distractions and disappointments delay dreams.

I See A HUGE Opportunity For Us Here...

So an interesting dilemma arose recently at home... The financial downturn is beginning to hit home for many, and my parents and some of their very successful friends are finally ready to step into the networking industry.

Awesome.

There's more money, and more freedom to be gained through that decision.

But that's also created a problem...

They don't know how to market online - at all. And they don't really want to... Ever.

And I can't say that I blame them.

They've done quite well for themselves using the people skills they've acquired over the last 40 years. Starting A Conversation about Networking

Starting a conversation with anyone about Network Marketing is so easy, but yet we seem to make it difficult. We seem to hesitate and wonder what to say or do, and we often miss the chance to talk about our business to people who truly would be open to moving their life into a larger place.

Why does this happen?

Many times, it is a fear because of a lack of knowledge, or experience approaching people. Talking to people about your business starts with talking to people about anything but your business. Talk about their business and employment. Be interested in THEM, not you. And approaching people with a GREAT INTENTION is the secret.

INFERNO Secret:

Approach people that you do not know for only one reason: To see which category they fit into.

You see, in this world, there are only 2 types of folks:

People you CAN help, and people you CANNOT help.

And if someone that you are chatting with is totally satisfied with where they are in life, then odds are, they are someone who you really cannot help. They may be too entrenched to be open to something new.

There is one trait that MUST be present to help someone with their future and life:

DISSATISFACTION.

And you can listen to someone and tell if they have that trait in their life and career. They must be dissatisfied about something in their life. It could be unhappy with their career, job, income, future, boss, lack of recognition in the workplace, etc. You need to LISTEN to their words and see where they are and listen for words like, "never," "it's a job," "dread," "it's a living," "change," etc.

To approach someone is so easy, if you simply approach them with one thing in mind- seeing where they fall in the 2 categories of life- Someone that is totally happy and does not want to enlarge their life and lifestyle, or someone whose timing is good, and is ready to enlarge their life and lifestyle.

Here are 5 HOT ways to open up a conversation with someone that you happen to be in an elevator with, standing in line with, or just happen to be within proximity of a conversation:

1) "What do you do for a living?"

This question simply engages the person with a non threatening question to open up the conversation.

2) How long have you been doing it?"

This question starts to uncover where they are in years, and you can tell how they answer it if they are proud of working in that profession or tired of it.

3) "What's the name of the company you work for?"

This is a question that will determine where they are employed, and you can tell by their answer if they are truly excited about being there, or not. Someone who says, "I work for ABC company. They are so good to me! or They are a great company" THAT is a person who likes where they work. If they say, "I work for ABC company downtown and have been there for 12 years." Their focus is different here. It sounds like a prison term.

4) "Tell me about it. Do you enjoy what you do?"

This question will simply uncover if there is any hint of dissatisfaction in their career or employment. If they answer, "YES! I love what I do!" they probably are happy with their job. If they say, "It's a living," or "It's a job," or "It puts food on the table," odds are they are not totally happy with what they do. Both answers though carry potential for Network Marketing.

Why?

One is totally happy with what they do, and the other is not. The first answer shows a potential great personality, and could be a potential positive asset to any company. The other answer shows some dissatisfaction, and may be looking for something better.

5a) "Just curious, are you keeping your income options open or know anyone who is where you work?"

This question simply sees if they are open to more money. Many times they will ask, "What do you mean?" I always answered "There is a company that I know that is looking for some talent. They are looking for people who are looking for more in life and to do better financially. I am not sure if it would be a fit here, but judging from our conversation, I believe it would be worth 15 minutes of your time. Gotta card or contact number?"

5b) "Do you know anyone where you work that is unhappy with their job? I know of a company that is looking for some talent and would love to talk to them."

That's it. That simple. That brief. I held this conversation with people thousands of times,and sold a lot of product, and recruited a lot of folks. How does it work? it simply is conversation which puts people at ease.

If this business of MLM could be boiled down to one word, it would be CONVERSATION. And that is all it is. A simple, friendly, non threatening conversation that can be held with anyone, anywhere.

That is one of the many ways that you talk to folks you do not know about MLM and Network Marketing.

Love and Marriage ... and Business: Should You Ever Say 'I Do?'

The special challenges of going into business with a spouse can be daunting, even catastrophic. But its rewards can be special..

The old Italian proverb, "He who has a partner has a master," seems doubly true for spouses who go into business together. The upside of such an intertwined focus can be substantial, but its downside can be shattering to both a marriage and a business.

"The power of having someone I can trust and talk to openly about business decisions is the most valuable part of working with my husband," said Susan Karakasevic, co-owner of the Charbay Winery & Distillery in Napa Valley.

"After 40 years of marriage and 26 years of owning our business, we have learned when to talk business and when to turn it off," Karakasevic said. "Since we bring such opposite vantage points he is from Mars! we propel the conversation forward with two minds having a go at it."

When you do the math, you see that the Karakasevics already had been married 14 years before they went into business together, and, according to the experts, that's a key component for success.

"I tell clients to look at the strength of their marriage," said Dwight Bain, an Orlando-based corporate coach, small business consultant and importantly -- certified family law mediator. "Whatever dysfunction exists in the marriage will come into the workplace. It will affect products, productivity and morale. With all the stresses of starting a small business, can the marriage survive? If as a married couple you only 'sorta' get along, you'd better have a marriage counselor and a business counselor on retainer.

"If your business fails and your marriage fails, the cost is too high," he said.

Dorelly Arango Herford would agree. Five years ago, she got married and started a construction-management consulting business in Atlanta with her "soon-to-be ex-husband."

"We're in the middle of the divorce process now," Arango Herford said. "Having a business together was not the straw that broke the "camel's" back, but it sure didn't help. "

Now their company, with $15 million in annual revenues and five other employees, is a major sticking point in the divorce settlement. She listed a host of issues that flared into toxic conflicts - office hours, responsibilities, communication, work styles, sharing an office.

"We never talked about those kinds of things. Eventually, I stopped sharing the office and started working from home. I wouldn't ever do it again. You need to really talk about strengths, weaknesses and expectations. You need to come up with very clear, defined rules, because the lines get blurred," she said.

A Florida real estate agent, who requested anonymity, described the outcome of helping her husband start a real-estate training company.

"We ran it for eight years and we are on the verge of divorce right now because of it, literally," she said. "When business times are tough, often the spouse looks at the other and only sees their frustration and failures, so it alienates you from each other. You can't have any personal or 'down-time,' because your business partner is your spouse, and he's looking you in the face."

Last year, workplace expert Eve Tahmincioglu appeared on a television show on the topic of whether a husband and wife should start a business together. Here are her five reasons she gave for why they should not:

No. 1: Marriage and business usually go belly up.

No. 2: You'll have to kiss romance goodbye.

No. 3: The dining room eventually becomes the boardroom.

No. 4: Try telling your spouse they screwed up.

No. 5: Finally, it's the battle of the sexes. If you've never resolved the issue of which one of you is the boss at work, get ready for all out war at home.

On the other hand, some couples in business together say they've been able to settle potentially divisive issues amicably. Take Dawn and Derrick Carpenter, who run a marketing company in North Bergen, N.J.

"Where we differ is in the disbursement of money," Dawn said. "I say 'pay the bills [first], pay yourself later.' He's the reverse. I usually win. I wear him down and he lets me have my way to avoid controversy."

"I come from a structured corporate background," she added. "I came into a loosely structured business, and brought a lot of structure to it. He's more laid back. I told him, 'This can't happen if we're going to run this effectively.'"

Derrick agrees. "My wife is ultra-organized," he said. "I'm haphazard, but I know where everything is. To succeed you must know your strengths and weaknesses. If you compromise in your marriage, bring that spirit to work."

"It's fun to create your own paycheck and not be beholden to anyone," Derrick added. "Working with my wife is double fun. We have enough differences to keep things interesting, and enough similarities to make things fun. I enjoy my 30-second commute, and waking up when I'm finished sleeping. Sometimes that's before Dawn literally and figuratively but most often it's the crack of noon."

Dawn put it this way: "We don't need to be together, as a couple or as business partners. We choose to be."

Frank and Amy Knight also stress the advantages of aligning marriage with business. The couple has owned a moving company in Tampa Bay, Fla., for the past five years.

"He started it, he was a mover," Amy Knight recalled. "I was working as a teacher. Frank was getting swamped. He needed help, so I took over the marketing, accounting and sales aspects of the business. I was all for it. I was very excited and I still am."

"I get to work with my husband every day," Amy said. "We set our own schedules, work side by side, share in the fruits and profits of our labor and suffer the consequences together. There's nothing more fun."

Frank said trust is their bottom line.

"One of us is always there, and we're not relying on outsiders. With us running it, we have no one else to blame and we like that," he said.

Some business owners struggle mightily with their spousal partners, fail at both marriage and business, learn from their mistakes and succeed at long last. That was the case with Barry Cohen, who now owns a media communications company in Clifton, N.J. He had started a previous business and invited his wife to quit her job and join him.

"It ended in disaster three years later, largely because I was a workaholic," Cohen said. "I worked from home, so I never left the office. The 70-hour work weeks placed too many demands on her, and strained our marriage. We made the mistake of ending the marriage, instead of just ending the working relationship."

Cohen's story, however, has a happy ending.

"Seven years later, we remarried," he said. "When I started my present business, I made a concerted effort to avoid the mistakes of the past. I located the business miles from home, forcing me to leave the office at a reasonable hour each day, and not to be in the office on weekends."

It's one thing for husband and wife to coexist peacefully in business, but there's another important consideration employees. Laney Lyons-Chavis runs a company in Tampa that offers specialized training to employees in entrepreneurial companies.

"A spouse who works in a business is a common problem," said Lyons-Chavis. "In fact, a team of employees I am working with right now is furious.

"When a spouse works in a business, I've found it very common for it to cause a lot of tension with the rest of the team," Lyons-Chavis said. "It's hard to draw boundaries, and the rules often don't apply to the spouse."

Career coach and consultant Dwight Bain also shared horror stories of domestic squabbling in the workplace.

"A family I worked with recently lost everything," he said. "Each partner was gifted in their own way, but together they exploded," nosediving into bankruptcy, divorce and the loss of a $4 million home.

"Their 15 employees loved it when the couple fought," Bain said. "They'd stop work, sit around, listen, drink coffee and take sides."

The special challenges of going into business with a spouse can be daunting, even catastrophic. But its rewards can be special, enriching a personal relationship even as it eases the tribulations of the marketplace.

"It sounds wonderful, but it's really hard to do without a lot of structure, a lot of boundaries in place," Bain said. "It's not a bad idea but it's not necessarily the best idea."

"People need to think about how terrible it would be if both the business and the marriage tank," he said. "Wouldn't they be better off saying, 'Hey, I'll work at a job I enjoy. You work at a job you enjoy, and we'll meet for dinner every night.'"

There is no 'right' or 'wrong' way to build this business

Today's tip is self explanatory. People in this industry are constantly looking for the "right" way to build a network marketing business. Or they are constantly arguing about what is the "wrong" way to build the business.

The fact of the matter is that it doesn't exist.

You can sit down with the #1 income earner in your upline. You can ask him or her exactly step by step every single thing that this person did to build their business. You can ask them every book they read, every audio/video they listened to/watch, every seminar they attended. You can do exactly step by step everything that they did to the letter.

If you did this I guarantee you that you will NOT get the same results they have gotten. Your results might be better. Your results might be worst. However, it will never be the same.

There are two reasons why. #1 is we all have different strengths and weaknesses. There are people who are great at generating leads on the internet but are terrible at meeting someone at the bus stop and piquing their interest. There are people who are great at recruiting but terrible at getting a new recruit started right. Your strengths and weaknesses have to be factored into the equation.

The 2nd reason is there are too many other variables involved. Timing is a factor. There are times in your business where you can get more done with the same hours invested than you can at other times in your business. How personally developed you are plays a role. Luck plays a role.

Another industry leader, Jeff Olson says it best. He says that he could train on concepts and techniques but the problem is that one technique might be right for 4 or 5 of you and another technique might be right for another 4 or 5 of you because we are all different and unique.

So find out what you like. Find out what your strengths are and build the business that way. Just make sure that whatever you are doing is something that is proven to work in this industry.
