In the last ten years, more and more women are leaving the corporate world to start their own businesses. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, the number of women-owned businesses grew by 44 percent between 1997 and 2007—twice as fast as men-owned firms. Given the state of today's economy and the numbers of women who've been laid off, more women than ever are leaving traditional careers and starting their own businesses from home.

Professional women have plenty of options when deciding to go into business for themselves—but more of them are taking a serious look at network marketing and direct selling companies as their new career path. What's the appeal?

There are plenty of reasons, and if you'd like to recruit these aces into your team, you'll want to understand what's motivating them and be sure to highlight these benefits in your recruiting conversations!

Here are the top 10 reasons women are leaving the corporate world for network marketing and direct sales:

1. Tired of the Corporate Grind. In the 70's and 80's, many women loved their new-found independence and the opportunity to slip on a suit and drive off to a swanky corner office. But today's savvy gal is just as happy to pull on comfortable yoga pants and skip the commute altogether. Instead of tolerating office politics and glass ceilings, professional women are falling in love with the opportunity to be their own boss, have control over their schedules, and no limits on their annual income.

2. Craving More Work-Life Balance. For most women, competing in the corporate world has meant sacrificing many things, the hardest being any semblance of balance in their lives. As many women strive to be the super-employee, super-mom, super-wife, etc., the majority feel super-stressed and totally burned out. Having more control over their schedules, and more time for themselves or their families is one of the strongest motivators for women to start a network marketing business. They love the idea of being able to attend their kid's soccer games, or take a break from calling customers to squeeze in a yoga class. Network marketing is one of those rare opportunities where women can truly have it all—both a great income AND a high-quality life.

3. Working As Part of a Team. Most career women have worked in team environments, so the idea of leaving that kind of environment to start a business all alone is quite daunting. (Too much isolation… next thing you know, you're talking to yourself and tweeting Ashton Kutcher!) Network marketing and direct sales offers the perfect blend, where women have total say in how they build their businesses, along with the opportunity to collaborate and receive ongoing support from others.

4. Opportunity to Choose Who You Work With. Many professional gals bear the battle scars of dealing with difficult bosses and cut-throat colleagues. Perhaps the most enticing idea about direct sales is the level of choice it provides. You have the final say over who you work with every day (whether a new customer, or new business partner). You'll never have to meet with Mr. Dragon-Breath-Please-Have-a-Mint or report to Ms. I'm-Having-a-Bad-Day-and-so-Should-You ever again.

5. Necessity and Security. Let's be real: not every gal who starts her own business does it because it's her first choice. The majority of people laid off when the economy tanked in recent years were women, and with job prospects slim, becoming self-employed was the only option for many. 6. Low Startup Costs and Monthly Overhead . The startup costs of most businesses create a real barrier for women. If you want to open a retail store, you need capital to rent a location, purchase inventory, and advertise. You are risking a lot financially if things don't go as planned. In network marketing, the startup costs are minimal, and there's very little overhead month to month. The internet has cut these costs even further; no need to fill your garage with product. Customers can buy directly from the company, from anywhere in the world, without you having to spend any of your own money upfront.

7. Cool Rewards and Incentives. Unlike many corporations, network marketing companies make a huge effort to recognize and reward their distributors. They value you and your contributions, and aren't afraid to show it. Incentives are offered at every level of business development—and hey, what woman doesn't love to be showered with cash bonuses, jewelry, exciting trips, and even cars just for doing your job and making a great income in the process?

8. Bye-Bye Glass Ceiling. Sad, but true: women in most professions are still being paid less than male employees in similar positions. The Consequences of Being Trapped by Others Thoughts!

Here is an actual Dialogue I had with a friend who was a member of a small group I was coaching. Perhaps something in it will ring a bell for you.

The following challenge was posed as a problem…

One of the problems I face is that I don't have enough time to go back to my clients to follow up after I have been of service to them.

Why is it you don't have enough time?

Well, I'm too busy finding and servicing new clients… and following up takes too much time. I feel guilty not doing it because I promise them I will follow up in one year.

Why does it take so much time?

Because by the time I set the appointment and drive out there, spend an hour with them and drive back… it's not really worth it because I can make more money seeking new clients.

And you're feeling guilty about it?

Yes.

Have you thought about what you could do?

No… that's why I'm asking you.

Have you thought about doing your follow up over the phone instead of face to face?

Well, I promised them I would see them.

I understand that, however, what if, instead of promising them a visit, you promise to call them first to talk about and determine if anything has changed. If it has, you can then set an appointment, if it's appropriate to do so. Would that make it more efficient for you and do you think you could eliminate your guilt?

Yes it would. I never thought about that. We are taught to always see our clients.

I see. Do you think the approach we've just come up with will be more effective for you than what you have been taught?

Yes… of course!

Do you think it's possible you can even call your present clients… the ones you're neglecting… and take this approach even though you promised them a visit?

Yes!

Will you?

Yes.

What do you think would be an extra positive result by doing this, apart from relieving your guilt and having more satisfied clients?

I'm not sure?

How about referrals?

I never thought about that.

So instead of chasing after new clients all the time, do you think that if your present clients are satisfied with the attention you're now paying them, they will be happy to refer your services?

Yes… that's an excellent idea, thank you! I will start doing it right away!

I know it sounds obvious, but the obvious isn't always so obvious. Sometimes it's difficult to see the wood for the trees; especially if you allow yourself to believe everything you are taught.

Note how much was covered with so few questions allowing my friend come to his own logical conclusion and motivate himself to willingly step forward and do something different.

There's two lessons here.

Firstly, you need to be alert to the danger of being trapped into thinking or doing something that isn't right for you. This can happen when you accept something simply because "That's how it's always been done."

Secondly, notice how I helped my friend with his problem. I didn't rush in and say "What you need to do is…"

People rarely like being told what to do, even if you're right! Rather I used the principles of Natural Selling and Dialogue to help my friend arrive at a solution that was right for him.

Remember that you can use this approach in pretty much any situation where someone needs some help. Use it with your team members when they're facing a challenge or with your day-to-day contacts with friends and family outside of business.

Using Dialogue in this way is very effective and, as this example shows, quite easy. All you need to do is know how to ask the right questions and listen effectively.

If First You Don't Succeed, Fix The Blame- Quick!

I heard all my life as a kid…

"If first you don't succeed, try, try again!"

Don't let a first-time failure stop further attempts.
For example, I know it's hard at first to shift gears
without stalling but if at first you don't succeed . . .
This seemingly ancient adage was first recorded in 1840.

Zig Ziglar said...

"The only difference between a Big Shot and a Little
Shot is a Little Shot is a Big Shot that Kept Shooting!"

I have always felt that if other average people, with
average intelligence can do it, then so can I.

There is not a week that goes by when I don't wonder
to myself, how somebody missed the memo?

I am a very un-opinionated person. ( I have no idea if
un-opinionated is a word, but hopefully you understand
what I am trying to say). There is nothing that grinds
my nerves more than hearing somebody babble about
any topic that they have absolutely no background,
experience or idea what they are talking about.

That is why I rarely visit MLM training forums
or listen to talk radio.

It has been said, "It is better to be thought of
as ignorant, than to open ones mouth and
remove all doubt."

However, if I KNOW something is True and
has withstood the test of time, who am I to doubt
it? I am not smart enough to doubt it so I
choose to embrace it, internalize it, and never
doubt it. What about you?

My entire marketing career, I have tried to stand
on what I call, "The Wisdom of the Ages" and
fight for what I know is true.

I don't always like THE WAY IT IS, but I have
learned to not fight it, and to work with the
natural laws of success. Does that make sense?

It is a constant battle to control my self-talk and
thoughts, but according to ever self-help book
ever written, that is what we all must do if we
expect to develop a Success mindset.

"As you Believe, so shall it be done unto you"
Mathew 9 :29

It bothers me that 70% of the population will
die with their Music Still in them. It really
upsets me.

As Helen Keller said, "Hell starts
when the person you are meets the person you
could have become."

That statement is chilling to me.

But you know what, that is the way it
is, I am not going to change that, and to try to
fight it, is a waste of time, energy and thought.
The only person's actions I can control are my
own!

We live in a world where everything is somebody
else's fault. Accidents don't happen in today's
sue happy world where 99% of the lawyers give
they other 1% a bad name.

We have become a world full of pitiful , thumb
suckers, what I call Victims. The marketing world
is full of them, people that have the attitude if
first I don't succeed, fix the blame quick.

It is sad. But what is even worse is people that
design their entire marketing message around these
people.

I have come to the conclusion that Rich marketers
tell the 70% what they want to hear and the rest
of us do everything we can to tell people the truth.

Think about that statement.

How many marketing message do you see and hear
every week that follow the same script.

I tried everything, bought everything and
nothing worked

Then I stumbled upon this secret software
or recruiting secret that the rich internet
marketing gurus, or your upline doesn't
want you to know about

I only have a limited number of these magic
widgets available, but if you act now you will
never have to worry about money again.

You can laugh at everyone who told you it
wouldn't work and you couldn't make it, so
send me you $37 now, I am the only honest
marketer in the world!

We have all seen this story or variations of it over
and over from Ann "Throw Away Your Warm
Market List" Sieg. to the Rich Internet Marketing
Jerk. Gurus, telling people, you are a Victim, and it
is not your fault, it is everybody else's. They have
done it to you!

(To all you Ann Sieg followers, don't email
me, I don't care. I am sure she is a fine lady, this
is not personal, I pulled her name out of the air,
but I could have just as easily named another
Attraction marketing guru that makes money
from telling people what they want to hear)

Is this ever going to end, or is it just a reflection of
the world we live in?

How can people ever expect to develop success
in any area of their life if they are not will to accept
responsibility?

When did the Wisdom of the Ages become
Rocket Science?

TRUTH… You are where you are in your life
because of what has gone into your mind, the ONLY
WAY to change where you are is to change what
goes into your mind.

I can see how this becomes difficult for people when
every time they open their email box or visit a
website they have someone telling them it is not
their fault, it is your old school upline or whatever.

Hey we all wish there was some secret software or
recruiting system out there that we could spend
$37.00 for and never have to think about money
again.

But the guy sounded so sincere, It was like he
understood all the things I have tried that didin't
work, etc. etc. I hear it all!

WAKE UP!

He is telling you what YOU WANT to HEAR, not what you NEED to hear!

Sincere???

As leaders we have to tell people the TRUTH!
We have to understand and hold on to the
WISDOM of THE AGES and never doubt.

You will never build a team with people who
have victim mentalities. So you can either tell
them the truth and guide them out of that
mentality or you can try to constantly pump them
up and pray they stay on auto-ship one more month.

Network marketing is about "Developing Leaders"
and that can only be done, with people who are
willing to take responsibility, grow learn, and
develop.

These are the qualities I want from my Internet connection:

ANYWHERE ACCESS no matter where: Vegas, Nepal, my porch.
ANYTIME ACCESS: 24 hrs/day, 7 days a week.
SOLID SIGNAL. Strength.
SPEED. Accessibility right now.
EASY SET UP, no hassle.
SIMPLE CUSTOMER SERVICE to do the hard stuff.

Since I run my business online, all of the above are requirements, must-haves,
not just things I notice if they fail.

These are also the requirements I have of my will power - a tool I use to live a
productive life and do things I don't always want to do. You know it: will
power is the force you muster when you don't want to do something beneficial
like exercise, eat healthy, write, finish your work, take the dog out, etc. At it's
most basic, will power is what allows you to wave hello, pick up a chopstick,
and get out of bed. It's also what people argue about: "It's not will power but
systems that trick your mind that work." "No, It's about will power to help
you trick your mind."

I live in a world where whatever works I'll use, so I use will power to get things
done and trick my brain into doing things. I keep sneakers near my bed so I trip
over them to remember to go to the gym, but when I fall back asleep, will power
forces me back up. And no amount of will power in the world stops me from
eating less than twenty cookies in a box, so I trick myself by not buying them.

Whatever works.

Anything worth doing is worth doing with enthusiasm, and will power is great
because it's a tool you actively make stronger through practice. Each time you
use will power to do something good, you create new grooves in your brain that
enable you to keep improving and to keep doing good things. It's the perfect
virtuous cycle: you harness your will to do good things, those good things
create new grooves in your brain, those grooves strengthen your will, and
a strong will enables you to continue to do good things.

Since my success or failure partially depends on the degree to which I can access
my will power, it's a great way to live to always be strengthening your will. For
the curveballs life throws, and they will come, a strong, fast, reliable will power
is one of your best defenses.

At it's most potent, will power is deeply connected to a "why" - the reason you're
doing what you're doing in the first place. To strengthen your will, your reason and intention have to come from a deep part of you that knows why you're doing all this.

I believe that along with a "why," will power is directly connected to the Infinite -
a vast, abundant source of energy in the universe that we tap into when we need it.
Call it God, the cosmos, whatever, there's a source that combined with your own
will, is tremendously powerful and available anytime. Like how moms suddenly
lift cars when their babies are underneath them. Where does all that power
come from all of a sudden? I know exactly where: that mother's exertion of her
own strong will (internal) combined with a greater source of power (external.)
And that's how babies get saved, ya'll.

Though I haven't lifted cars, I've seen my own will in action more times than I can
count, and it's grown to be a very reliable tool in my life. I've willed very specific
things into existence like mentors, helpful resources that come exactly when I
need them, be they financial or emotional, and solutions to problems I'd given
up on. I once used my will to make it through a college exam while so severely
sick and feverish that I emanated heat to the guy next to me. I used my will three
years ago to design exactly the life I am living right now down to the people I
work with, my circle of friends, even to the necklace I'm wearing right now.

You are your own powerhouse with a strengthened, responsive will.

Since it's clearly that important, here are ways to think about and work with your
will power, no matter what your station or situation in life.

1.) ANYWHERE ACCESS
Remember that no matter where you are, your will power is with you.
Will power is your ability to manifest enthusiasm and energy. For anything. You can
use it to finish your Monday to-do list, write your article, or go to the gym. Don't
worry if you're down and out, discouraged, or simply lazy. You still have access to
your will power and it won't judge you. Just remember to use it, that it's there.

Instead of numbing out or doing exactly what you did yesterday, exert a little
will power to push through the mental barrier of "nothing will change." Screw that
voice. Screw the fact that you've repeated behaviors for years. It makes no difference
because you have, at your disposal this very minute, the exact amount of will power
you had then, years ago when you thought you could accomplish something. It's still there! How lovely that our reserves doesn't go away even though our enthusiasm and energy do.

So go use it right now.

2.) ANYTIME ACCESS
You can access your will power anytime. In a conference room, on the subway,
in the smack dab middle of an awkward situation where you've just said something
dumb. No matter what, tap into the well of wisdom and energy within you and
remember that you're not alone. The vast source of energy is here with you, so use
it to rectify the situation. Correct yourself, excuse yourself, initiate the difficult conversation with your girlfriend or boss. It's okay. To come back to a moment
unflustered after embarrassment, rejection, or discouragement takes enormous
will power. And grace. But remember, you have both of these qualities in droves,
so simply use them and don't beat yourself up.

3.) SOLID CONNECTION
There's nothing more annoying than an internet connection that fails you when
you need it most - like the beginning of your TED talk. Similarly, when you
need it most, like in challenging situations where you're lost and not sure what
to do, or the rug's been pulled out from under you, or you're just getting
smacked around by life, USE your will power to center yourself. This one
takes training and doesn't happen overnight. Use your will to remember that
your core is strong and getting stronger by the day because you are practicing.

The stronger the breeze, the stronger the trees. Your willpower will help you
remember that when you need it most.

4.) SPEED
You don't want to wait for access to will power when you're thrown off center
by a rude comment, a selfish person, a bad seafood allergy. Your ability to regain
balance and a semblance of control without freaking out is controlled by your
will power. In situations where you have to recover almost instantaneously, you'll
thank yourself for practicing with your will for as long as you have. Use it to
overcome automatic behaviors and reactions you may normally exhibit, like

5.) EASY SET UP
You've seen that will power is worth it's weight in gold if you train yourself
to consistently use it. This however, can only be done by you. Unlike someone
who can hook you up to the Internet, strengthening your will is a solo job, and
like the Internet, it can be frustrating, awkward, and take getting used to. You'll
need to go through the sucky phase of being a beginner before your will
serves you, but I know from experience that if you practice without beating
yourself up, progress happens much sooner than you think.

6.) CUSTOMER SERVICE
Remember who the customer service department is in your life
When solving your problems in life, the sources you get help from are important.
It's not your best friend, or your mom, or your boss that ultimately solve your
problems, it's your job to deal with life's annoyances at the end of the day -
whether you get yourself out of a bad mood or finally do that thing you've put
off for two months. You do that by accessing your will power. And just like
any customer service department, you get ahead by being polite to yourself
while going through the process.

Remember, anything worth doing is worth doing with enthusiasm and vigor.

Will power with a deep "why" is your greatest tool in accomplishing what you
want to in life, but it's up to you to channel it. With practice, because training
your will takes as much if not more energy than actually using it, you'll see
just how beneficial a strong and ready-to-fire will really is.

Creating a Magnetic Mindset

What is reality? Your reality is whatever you believe to be true.

What creates your reality is what you pay attention to most of the time.

What you direct your attention to grows in your life and what you take it away from withers and dies.

Some people believe success is hard, that it can be gained only by some gargantuan, super human effort that few can ever perform or sustain. They focus their attention on the effort instead of the result they desire. If you give your power (belief) to the effort then you make things harder than they need to be.

Trust me, I know from experience because I have been guilty of doing this myself. While counting the cost of success and focusing on how much effort it would take to achieve it, I was frozen in mediocrity producing haphazard results. Once I determined what I desired and kept my attention focused on it consistently it became a piece of cake to build my business.

One of my mentors, Dr. Denis Waitley always said, "In life you'll never get what you want, you'll only get what you expect."

Whatever you believe to be true will be true for you. That is the power of positive expectancy. Worry, doubt, and fear are all negative expectancy. They are all about focusing on what you don't want and imagining (in many cases vividly) what you don't want to happen. So if you worry about or fear what you don't want to happen what are you focusing on? What you don't want. And what will you make real? What you don't want!

The attention or FOCUS mechanism of your mind functions like the lens of a camera. Just like the camera lens, which focuses on what you direct it at and deletes everything else, your mind does exactly the same thing. Your mind simply cannot focus on 2 things at the same time therefore you must maintain your focus continually on what you desire instead of what you fear.

The key to success is to have a dream you love so much that you continually focus on it. You think about it all the time, seeing and feeling yourself as having already attained it. Seeing and feeling yourself being the person you desire to be, doing what you desire to do, having what you desire to have. Maintaining this dream in your mind continually is what compels you to take consistent action.

You see, action follows thought. As you think, so you will be. Thoughts are things. They are the seeds of what you will manifest in your life. Physical results are simply the effects of your thoughts. You want to create a mindset that literally attracts to you all the good things you desire in life.

I want to impress upon you that building a network marketing business is not hard. It is simple and the results are predictable as long as you think correctly and follow a proven system. Therefore, the key is learning to think correctly and following a proven pattern that produces predictable results.

Can you get excited about having the financial riches and wealth that you desire deep down inside and know that you deserve? Can you also get excited about helping other people have the wealth they desire and deserve? This is the journey or mission you're embarking on in network marketing.

You may be thinking - gosh, that would be nice but that's a bit Polly Anna'ish or idealistic. Albert Einstein said, "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results." Is what you're doing right now giving you the results you've always wanted? If not, what makes you think it will in the future?

Einstein also said that the thinking that's gotten you to where you are in life today is not the thinking that will take you to where you desire to be. Here's a man who unlocked many of nature's secrets and changed our understanding of the world we live in and his great secret was controlled and directed use of his thought processes, particularly his imagination.

How are you using your thought process and imagination? Are you using it to serve you and create a wonderful life or are you in bondage to your fears, worries and doubts? Whatever you focus on most of the time is what you will create in your life.

What would you attempt in life if it were impossible to fail? If time and money were no longer a factor and you couldn't fail, what would you do? The answers to those questions represent what we love to do in life. Many of us can't answer them or will not allow ourselves to because they upset our current reality or it's simply too far from what we've conditioned ourselves to mentally accept as possible.

So, let me ask you a much easier question. If you could develop lasting wealth and huge residual income by helping people achieve financial freedom and success would that be a worthwhile mission to undertake in life?

The reason I'm excited about building a network marketing business is that in the process of achieving my dreams, for me and my family, I will help millions of people all over the world enjoy better quality of life, more happiness and greater wealth. Can you get excited about doing that yourself for you, your family and the world?

When you adopt this way of thinking you will have created a magnetic mindset that will attract the right people to your business and the success you truly desire. Even if you are already financially successful, what better way to contribute than to help others achieve time and money freedom and create wealth? If you'll supply that fuel (your dream) and maintain your attention and focus on your business continuously, it will take you wherever you desire to go.

First Thing Every Morning

If you had a bank that credited your account each morning with $86,400—with no balance carried from day to day—what would you do? Well, you do have such a bank...TIME.

Every morning it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it rules off as "lost" whatever you have failed to use toward good purposes. It carries over no balances and allows no overdrafts. You can't hoard it, save it, store it, loan it or invest it. You can only use it—time.

Here's a story that drives the point home.

Arthur Berry was described by Time as "the slickest second-story man in the East," truly one of the most famous jewel thieves of all times. In his years of crime, he committed as many as 150 burglaries and stole jewels valued between $5 and $10 million. He seldom robbed from anyone not listed in the Social Register and often did his work in a tuxedo. On an occasion or two, when caught in the act of a crime by a victim, he charmed his way out of being reported to the police.

Like most people who engage in a life of crime, he was eventually caught, convicted and served 25 years in prison for his crimes. Following his release, he worked as a counterman in a roadside restaurant on the East Coast for $50 a week.

A newspaper reporter found him and interviewed him about his life. After telling about the thrilling episodes of his life he came to the conclusion of the interview saying, "I am not good at morals. But early in my life I was intelligent and clever, and I got along well with people. I think I could have made something of my life, but I didn't. So when you write the story of my life, when you tell people about all the burglaries, don't leave out the biggest one of all... Don't just tell them I robbed Jesse Livermore, the Wall Street baron or the cousin of the king of England. You tell them Arthur Berry robbed Arthur Berry."

Here are six terrific truths about time:

First: Nobody can manage time. But you can manage those things that take up your time.

Second: Time is expensive. As a matter of fact, 80 percent of our day is spent on those things or those people that only bring us two percent of our results.

Third: Time is perishable. It cannot be saved for later use.

Fourth: Time is measurable. Everybody has the same amount of time...pauper or king. It is not how much time you have; it is how much you use.

Fifth: Time is irreplaceable. We never make back time once it is gone.

Sixth: Time is a priority. You have enough time for anything in the world, so long as it ranks high enough among your priorities.

Rightsizing your passion
Excitement about goals is often diminished by our fear of failure or the drudgery of work.

If you're short on passion, it might be because your goals are too small or the fear is too big.
Do a job for a long time and achieve what you set out to achieve, and suddenly, the dream job becomes a trudge instead. The job hasn't changed--your dreams have.
Mostly, though, it's about our fear. Fear is the dream killer, the silent voice that pushes us to lose our passion in a vain attempt to seek safety.

3 Ways To Stop Creating Resistance

Be aware of what you are thinking and saying. Language creates reality. Are you unknowingly creating what you don't want?

While I was observing an Opportunity Meeting, I noted three things about the presentation that were, what could be called, "resistance creators".

Could you be doing something similar without realizing it?

First, the presentation included justifying statements from the presenter like – "Network Marketing isn't what you think it is" and – "It's not a pyramid scheme" with the presenter proceeding to explain what he thought it was and why it wasn't a pyramid scheme.

He then continued to overcome some of the "perceived objections" that people "supposedly" have about Network Marketing, such as its legality and so on…

The presenter also made comparing statements that included how the company… "Had the best products… and… is the number one company in its field… had the best compensation plan… etc."

At the end of this, one of the guests turned to me and said, "I didn't know there was anything illegal about Network Marketing? And what's a pyramid scheme?"

"Also" He added, "I didn't know there were other companies doing the same thing. I'd like to check them out."

So what happened?

Well, the presenter on the stage had unknowingly created resistance and doubt by making justifying statements and overcoming resistance when there was none to be overcome. He was also comparing the company and its products when it was unnecessary to do so, and assumed his own fears were the fears of everyone else.

Do you find yourself doing this? Justifying, comparing or stating something when it doesn't need to be?

Do you unknowingly instil doubt into the minds of people you talk with and then wonder why they resist you?

Do you find yourself saying the above and other things like…?

"I know what you're thinking…"

"You're probably thinking…"

"Let me tell you why this is…"

I can guarantee 100% that people do not think what you think they think! In fact, your thinking can get in your way. Your doubt and fear actually creates their doubt and fear. It reveals itself in your words, your tonality and your bearing.

So what to do?

Awareness is the first step to change.

Awareness allows you to change your thinking.

Changing your thinking will change what you say.

Changing what you say will change the way people respond to you.

Changing the way people respond to you will change your results for the benefit of both of you!

So think about this! At your meetings…

Instead of saying – "Network Marketing isn't what you think it is." Try saying – "For many of us in this room, Network Marketing is a wonderful way to have your own business because…" and list some generic advantages.

End by asking a question, such as – "How would it feel if you could do the same thing and receive extra income each month, feel fulfilled or even give up your dependency on having to work for someone?"

Instead of overcoming what you think might be resistance, which means you think you know what everyone is thinking – Just keep your thoughts to yourself and address anything that comes up later.

Instead of saying – "We have the best compensation plan" Say – "We have a generous compensation plan that rewards people well."

Then continue by asking – "Have you ever thought of starting your own full or part-time business so that you can create your own security and start taking care of yourself and your family once again?"

And how about this?

Instead of saying – "We have the best products – " Try- "We have proven natural products that are designed to keep people healthy by making up for the lack of nutrition in most people's diets… a deficiency that is causing so many people to die of cancer and other modern day diseases."

"Have you ever thought about having a healthier life, helping others have happy and healthier lives as well, and receiving an income for it at the same time?"

Can you feel the difference?

And you don't need to be involved in formal style presentations to use these ideas. Any time you're speaking with a potential business partner or customer, these ideas will help you get better results and a better response.

Language is an incredibly powerful tool. As you can see from this article, if you use language incorrectly you can cause all sorts of problems for yourself.

8 Steps to Close Sales Quickly

"Start with the end in mind," as Steven Covey of 7 Habits of Highly Effective People says. So let's start with booking the order and work towards where the selling process starts.

1. How Do You Get the Order?
Get all the powerful people - especially the most powerful person - to commit to your offering. This is the person with the ability to say yes and it happens. Don't be fooled by those who can say no. Anyone can get you eliminated.
a. If it is a business sale, there may be lots of people involved. The ultimate decision-maker is usually in the executive suite and listens to associates and subordinates.

b. If it is a consumer sale (car, house, personal item), determine who has the power - husband, wife? Children can be significant influencers. Emotional buys happen, but will be returned unless the power and influences are synchronized.

2. How Do You Get Powerful People To Commit?
Ask for the commitment. i.e.: "Since you're feeling good about what we've just discussed, can I have your commitment that you will support me/my company?
a. If s/he says "yes", you've won a vote - not the sale - unless it's the person with the power to say yes and it happens.

b. If s/he says "no", ask "How come?" i.e. "Seems like you have some concerns. Please explain."

3. How Do You Know What S/He Is Feeling?
Ask the magic question - "How do you feel about what I've just presented?"

a. If s/he feels good - that great - go for commitment. See 2 above.

b. If s/he doesn't feel good or shows signs of hesitation/objections, ask, "What's the issue?" See 2b above.

4. How Do You Know What To Present To Make Her/Him Feel Good?

Ask questions about what s/he wants/expects. "What would the perfect solution look like to you?" "What will it take to get your vote?" Stop talking and listen. Then base your presentation on what s/he has said.

a. Be sure the answer comes from this person. The biggest mistake is to ask others what someone else wants/expects.

b. If s/he doesn't say the things you think s/he should be concerned about, expose and entice, i.e. "Are you aware ..." "Others have used ... and found that..." Don't push. Sense if there is any interest only. Otherwise let it go.

5. How Do You Get To Ask Questions?
Make it a condition before you do any presentations (i.e. "I know you're expecting me to tell you about our stuff, but before I do, can I ask you a few questions about your wants and expectations so I don't bore you with information that is of no interest to you.")
a. Ask questions when alone with her/him. People reveal more one-on-one. Remember you have to appeal to this person to win his/her vote. It's not about the company or the other people.

b. If you give the presentation before the interview, you lose. They get to know all about you and you learn little. The rescue strategy, when you can't resist the urge to present, is to ask each person the magic, feeling question. See 3 above.

6. Who Are The People To Be Questioning?
All the people who touch or who are impacted by your product, especially those in high places, are the people you should interview. Win each of these people's votes. Ask to meet their boss so you can ask questions and win his/her vote. The powerful will make the final decision. Don't argue. It is what it is. Besides, what would happen if your competition gets to the bosses?

7. When Do You Start Going After All These Administrators, Decision People And
Senior Execs?
This is a lot of work.
Go after then after you qualify that this is a good company and a good opportunity for you to pursue. Use history to determine the types of companies/opportunities that have gone well for you and those that haven't. Seek only those that fit this profile. These are the plums and should close at a 70% rate if you do 1 through 6 above. Leave the rhubarbs for your competitors. They will die slowly while you use the time to find more plums.

8. How Do You Find Enough Prospects To Be Choosey?
Have a systematic prospecting program. Fortunately there are many levels and types of prospecting. Your easiest prospects are those who you currently do business with. Develop high level relationships, (How? Read my book - TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER$), and you will get 100% of the business from 100% of your clients. Your toughest prospects are new accounts, cold calls, and greenfield prospects.

a. Prospect for those that fit your profile.

b. The more organized your approach, the better you changes of finding quality leads that are interested in doing something. Then do 7 through 1 above in that order only.

c. If you don't prospect enough, you won't have enough plums and you will gravitate to the rhubarbs.
See, selling is very systematic and can be easy. People make it tough by pushing products, going after everything, and trying to beat the competition. Best case these people close 30%. Do the above and you'll soon be closing 70% of the opportunities you choose to pursue.

Recruiting and Sponsoring Are NOT The Same Thing!

In the years that I've been involved with Network
Marketing, I've known plenty of "master recruiters".

You know…those men and women who seem to be able to
persuade practically ANYONE they come in contact with
to join their organization.

They're the ones who are able to REALLY CONNECT with
people, plus they seem to have a reassuring way about
them that can establish trust in just minutes.

But just because someone is able to recruit well doesn't
mean they're good sponsors.

There have been (sadly) many recruiting whizzes I've
seen over the years whose main concern was the size…
not the quality…of their team.

These "all stars" amass large numbers, even make lots
of money, but don't take the time to teach and train
their new distributors.

They make promises, sure, but they rarely follow through,
leaving behind them a host of "ex-network marketers"
and giving the industry a bad name to boot!

Of course, when people get discouraged and fall away
(as they will), their stock answer always seems to be
"90% quit in the first three months."

Statistically, that may be true, but how many of them
might still be on board IF their recruiter was also an
effective sponsor?

Because…please hear me…

There's a DIFFERENCE between recruiting and sponsoring!

Recruiting Is An Action Word

According to Miriam-Webster, RECRUIT (verb) means "to
seek to enroll; to fill up the number with new members"

The way I read it, that means recruiting is an action.

It's what we DO to interest someone in our opportunity
enough to cause them to join our team. And because it's
an activity folks with different personalities engage in,
there are likely THOUSANDS of methods to choose from.

Some people like using the telephone and just chatting,
while others MUST have their favorite script as a guide.

Still others prefer email campaigns.

Then there are direct mailings, sizzle lines, hotel meetings
and home parties…the list goes on.

Your preferred recruiting activity may be something that
would cause me to break out in hives, and vice-versa.

But whatever you DO to get new members on board, once
they join…you're a SPONSOR.

A Sponsor Is Who You ARE

So let's take a quick look at the dictionary again.

SPONSOR (noun) means "one who assumes responsibility
for some other person or thing" (emphasis mine)

Hmmm…does that mean that we're responsible for a person's
success or failure?

Sort of…but not totally.

Let me explain.

It IS up to us to get our new team member off on the
right foot by pointing them to the company trainings,
introducing them to our upline, etc.

It's our responsibility to provide or point to the
answers to all those questions new people have.

Basically, we show them the ropes. (In some companies,
this may mean demonstrating how to do a presentation at
their Aunt Tillie's house some Sunday afternoon)

We regard them as a new student, so to speak, and teach
them what they need to know to stand on their own.

Those Are Important Words – ON THEIR OWN

HOWEVER…..

There are those folks who, for whatever reason, have more
excuses than determination.

Perhaps they started with enthusiasm, but now all you
seem to get from them is opposition, complaints and
"reasons" for their lack of action.

They tell you why they can't plug into company trainings,
don't have time to read their distributor manual, won't
get on the phone, can't ask Aunt Tillie for help…

This is the point where you, as their sponsor, MUST realize
that all YOU can do is provide them with the tools and
information they need to succeed, but their success is
up to THEM!

Do you continue to point them to training calls, webinars,
manuals, etc?

Of course!

But that's where you (for your own sake) need to draw the line.

Don't fall unto the trap of sitting with them for HOURS
on the phone, explaining the same things over and over or
trying to encourage/motivate them.

If you do, they will suck you dry emotionally and you'll
have nothing left to give anyone else, and/or you'll have
no time (or energy) left to recruit others

So what's the answer?

Lead By Example

The very BEST thing you can do for your team is to remain
in action yourself!

You'll serve as an inspiration of what CAN be, and your
team will just naturally start doing what you're doing.

To be an effective sponsor, there are four things you'll
want to keep in mind

Set a personal standard of excellence your team can aspire to.
Stay plugged in with your company trainings and your own upline.
Keep actively recruiting!
TEACH your new team members, don't manage them

At the end of the day, you must remember…not everyone on
your team (and quite likely very few) will actually roll up
their sleeves and get to work, but that's not something
you can control.

But inherent in the word sponsor is reSPONSibility.

So after you recruit that new team member, take responsibility
to provide the information, direction and leadership they
need, and a thriving organization will be your reward.

Why Not Now?

The time we are blessed with is limited and tends to be used up all too quickly. How we utilize that time is consequently one of the most important decisions we make. Yet it is far too easy to put off until tomorrow what we are dreaming of today. The hectic pace of modern existence affords us an easy out; we shelve our aspirations so we can cope more effectively with the challenges of the present, ostensibly to have more time and leisure to realize our purpose in the future. Or we tell ourselves that we will chase our dreams someday once we have accomplished other lesser goals. In truth, it is our fear that keeps us from seeking fulfillment in the here and now because we view failure as a possibility, our reasons for delaying our inevitable success seem sound and rational. If we ask ourselves what we are really waiting for, however, we discover that there is no truly compelling reason why we should put off the pursuit of the dreams that sustain us.

When regarded as a question, "Why not now?" drains us of our power to realize our ambitions. We are so concerned with the notion that we are somehow undeserving of happiness that we cannot see that there is much we can do in the present to begin courting it. Yet when we look decisively at our existence and state, "Why not now, indeed!" we are empowered to begin changing our lives this very moment. We procrastinate for many reasons, from a perceived lack of time to a legitimate lack of self-belief, but the truth of the matter is that there is no time like the present and no time but the present. Whatever we aim to accomplish, we will achieve it more quickly and with a greater degree of efficiency when we seize the day and make the most of the resources we have at our disposal presently.

All the joy, passion, and contentment you can envision can be yours right now, rather than in some far-flung point in time. You need only remind yourself that there is nothing standing between you and fulfillment. If you decide that today is the day you will take your destiny into your hands, you will soon discover that you hold the keys of fate.

What Do You Stand For?

Trust your inner authority.

I have discovered that life doesn't actually knock you down. It does, however, provide you with many opportunities to evaluate your standing in life: what you stand on, what you stand for, how you stand within yourself and for yourself. When your standing is weak, you don't get knocked down. You fall down. You trip over the fallacies and fantasies that you have created or inherited.

You slip on your dysfunctional puzzle pieces and your distorted sense of self. Sometimes, if you are lucky, you fall when no one is looking, so you can limp away and lick your wounds privately.

More often than not, though, you fall in front of other people, and your dress flies up over your head, exposing your ripped panties to the spectators who are doing their best not to laugh at you. Those who do not laugh, but rush to help you up, often have no idea that your ego is more bruised than your knees.

As the result of my public fall from television, I discovered that what I was standing on was quicksand. Thank goodness there were two things I could grab on to and pull myself out of the pit.

The first thing I grabbed on to was my unequivocal desire to serve God. The second thing was the love and support of the women in the community in which and through which I served God.

Lydia ran my household. Almasi, Helen, and Deanna kept my business and ministry afloat. Yawfah, Rene, and Vivian kept reminding me that my daughter Gemmia's transition, the dissolution of my marriage, and the shift in my career were not my fault. Shaheerah and Raina told me over and over again that there was something extraordinary that I was being prepared for, and the only thing required of me was to keep my heart open and my mind at peace.

All I was experiencing was teaching me to become fully reliant on my inner authority, the power of God within me. It was a hard pill to swallow. Did my daughter need to die in order for me to become a better person? Did my husband need to reject me and dishonor our commitment so that I could have a greater purpose in life? Wrong questions! The greater, grander, deeper inquires I needed to make of myself were: What am I being asked to practice? What character values am I being asked to embody? What service can I offer the world as a result of the lessons I am learning?

Could BE-ing Ourselves BE The Problem?

You've heard the expression "Just be yourself". Perhaps you've been told to BE yourself when you were struggling with how to communicate with someone for example.

This is an interesting piece of conventional wisdom and a cliché that I accepted and used until I woke up to the potential absurdity of it.

The potential absurdity comes from the fact that BE-ing ourselves got us where we are! So how does continuing BE-ing the person we presently are help us BE the person we want to be?

I think that BE-ing ourselves has more to do with finding the real US. The real us before we accidentally allowed ourselves to become influenced or trapped by surroundings and people who, while they meant well, piled all their personal baggage, limitations and fears into us.

So how do we find and BE the real us? The one that knows no fear – only love, joy and abundance?

For many the search is an unlearning as well as a learning experience. That's why in my book "How to Sell Network Marketing Without Fear, Anxiety or Losing Your Friends" I talk about what I went through by challenging the conventional wisdoms of selling that seemed to produce more hurdles than results, until I found "another way".

Another Way

What I found was a universal way that applies to everyone.

A way of changing my thinking and changing my actions that was in tune with a higher truth. It was about taking a thought and manifesting what I wanted.

Interestingly this was about practically applying the concept behind the DVD and the book "The Secret".

It's really no secret as to how to manifest the thinking behind "The Secret". I've been teaching the spiritual background, the framework, and the process of how to get what you want through your business for years.

It's about using that inner intuition or inner "knowing" we all possess and that will work if we trust it. We intuitively know what is correct and incorrect. What Buddha called "right thinking" and the "right path".

There is a higher intelligence that will give you what you want, though first you have to be;

In harmony with and, tuned into, what you want

Feeling good about yourself, "Don't worry, be happy" as the old song said

Get out of your own way!

Many people think they are tuned in but are not.

For example, I've noticed the following situation is quite common among distributors. While they…

They talk about that selling is helping people get what they want

They believe that they're tuned in to radio WIIFT ("What's In It For Them")

But, they're still not getting results.

The cause of their difficulty is usually that they are still;

Thinking about and attached to (even a little bit!) getting their potential partner to do something, such as get them into their system.

Using techniques and still attempting to short cut everything in the name of "duplication".

The radio station they are tuned into is radio WIIFM ("What's In It For Me")! Their business becomes a struggle, because people are not transmitting on that frequency!

Retuning their dial to the other frequency and voila, different and lasting results!

Perhaps you've never read my book or listened to the CD's with this perspective before and perhaps it's a good time to re-read and re-listen.

DO-ing and acting on it could help you really BE the person you are and give you the tools of HOW you can achieve what you are looking for.

Frank Sinatra once sang, "Do-Be-Do-Be-Do". Perhaps it's more accurate to say, "Do-Be-Do-Be–Have"!

Building a Successful Team by Jim Rohn

Once you've set a goal for yourself as a leader—whether it is to create your own enterprise, energize your organization, build a church, or excel in sports—the challenge is to find good people to help you accomplish that goal. Gathering a successful team of people is not only helpful, it's necessary.

So to guide you in this daunting task of picking the right people, I'm going to share with you a four-part checklist.

Number One: Check each candidate's history. Seek out available information regarding the individual's qualifications to do the job. That's the most obvious step.

Number Two: Check the person's interest level. If they are interested, they are probably a good potential. Sometimes people can fake their interest, but if you've been a leader for a while, you will be a capable judge of whether somebody is merely pretending. Arrange face-to-face conversation, and try to gauge his or her sincerity to the best of your ability. You won't hit the bull's-eye every time, but you can get pretty good at spotting what I call true interest.

Number Three: Check the potential's responses. A response tells you a lot about someone's integrity, character, and skills. Listen for responses like these: "You want me to get there that early?" "You want me to stay that late?" "The break is only ten minutes?" "I'll have to work two evenings a week and Saturdays?" You can't ignore these clues. A person's responses are a good indication of his or her character and of how hard he or she will work. Our attitudes reflect our inner selves, so even if we can fool others for a while, eventually our true selves will emerge.

And Number Four: Check results. The name of the game is results. How else can we effectively judge an individual's performance? The final judge must be results.

There are two types of results to look for. The first is activity results. Specific results are a reflection of an individual's productivity. Sometimes we don't ask for this type of result right away, but it's pretty easy to check activity. If you work for a sales organization and you've asked your new salesman, John, to make ten calls in the first week, it's simple to check his results on Friday. You ask, "John, how many calls did you make?" John says, "Well..." and starts telling a story, making an excuse. You respond, "John, I just need a number from one to ten." If his results that first week are not good, it is a definite sign. You might try another week, but if that lack of precise activity continues, you'll soon realize that John isn't capable of becoming a member of your team.

The second area you need to monitor is productivity. The ultimate test of a quality team is measurable progress in a reasonable amount of time. And here's one of the skills of leadership: Be up front with your team as to what you expect them to produce. Don't let the surprises come later.

When you're following this four-part checklist, your instincts obviously play a major role. And your instincts will improve every time you go through the process. Remember, building a good team will be one of your most challenging tasks as a leader. It will reap you multiple rewards for a long time to come.

Four Parts of Visualization

There are four parts of visualization that you can learn and practice to assure that you use this incredible power to its best advantage all the days of your life.

How Often?

The first aspect of visualization is frequency, the number of times that you visualize a particular goal as achieved of yourself performing in an excellent way in a particular event or circumstance. The more frequently you repeat a clear mental picture of your very best performance or result, the more rapidly it will appear as part of your reality.

How Long?

The second element of visualization is the duration of the mental image, the length of time that you can hold the picture in your mind each time you replay it. When you deeply relax, you can often hold a mental picture of yourself performing at your best for several seconds, and even several minutes. The longer you can hold your mental picture, the more deeply it will be impressed into your subconscious mind and the more rapidly it will express itself in your subsequent performance.

The third element of visualization is vividness. There is a direct relationship between how clearly you can see your desired goal or result in your mind and how quickly it comes into your reality. This element of visualization is what explains the powers of the Law of Attraction and the Law of Correspondence. The vividness of your desire directly determines how quickly it materializes in the world around you. Here is an interesting point. When you set a new goal for yourself, your image or picture of this goal will usually be vague and fuzzy. But the more often you write it, review it, and repeat it mentally, the clearer it becomes for you. Eventually, it will become crystal clear. At that point, the goal will suddenly appear in your world exactly as you imagined it.

How Intensely?

The fourth element of visualization is intensity, the amount of emotion that you attach to your visual image. In reality, this is the most important and powerful part of the visualization process. Sometimes, if your emotion is intense enough and your visual image is clear enough, your goal will immediately come true.

Of course, the elements of frequency, duration, vividness, and intensity can help you or hurt you. Like nature, the power of visualization is neutral. Like a two-edged sword, it can cut in either direction. It can either make you a success or make you a failure. Visualization brings you whatever you vividly and intensely imagine, whether good or bad.

How the Informal Economy Could Help Save the Rest of It

The idea that an itinerant New York City candy vendor pulls in $150 a day ought to have spawned one of the great feel-good financial news stories of 2011.

Here are the details: for almost a decade and a half, Alex McFarland, known as "Tracks" to his buddies, has been an underground man, a subterranean entrepreneur, roaming through the subways catering to people's need for a sugar buzz at a dollar a pop. Alex's daily haul would put his gross yearly salary at between $40,000 and $55,000 (depending on whether he takes weekends off) — which means he earns as much as an assistant store manager at Walmart or Target.

Alex's story, told in a video by Bianca Consunji, slipped onto the web in October — and this tale of bootstrap economics inspired additional reports on the CBC (Canada's public broadcasting system) and even on a Taiwanese news blog. But here in the U.S. of A., though New York Magazine and Gothamist offered links to the video, most of the MSM met the story with a great wall of silence.

Yet this tale of one savvy sub-rosa merchant carries some serious global significance. Alex is part of what is commonly called the informal economy — a realm where businesspeople don't get licensed or registered and, because they are paid in cash, often don't pay taxes. More than half the working stiffs on the planet — 1.8 billion people — earn their money like Alex, selling legal products in a quasi-legal way, and their efforts account for perhaps $10 trillion in economic activity. The U.S. alone generates 10% of that, or approximately $1 trillion in off-the-books economic activity.

These kinds of business practices are all around us. Think of the construction laborers who lurk for work in the parking lots of Home Depots and Lowes and the contractors who hire them. Think of the merchants who man flea markets and swap meets in all 50 states — many of whom don't report their full income to the government. Ditto for some of the buyers and sellers on eBay and taskrabbit. And global multinationals are in the mix too, for instance when they exploit loopholes in the law to exempt their income from taxes.

Governments routinely argue that merchants like Alex are criminals — no different from drug dealers and pimps. But that's simply untrue. When half the workers of the world aren't included in the legally defined economic system, the proper response is not to question their motives, but rather to question the system. We can start by looking at history. Here in the U.S., the underground has always been the incubator economy. It was roving salesmen like Alex — historians dubbed them Yankee peddlers — who kept the pioneers alive, going from homestead to homestead selling products from the packs on their backs. Even Dick Sears and Frederick Stanley, who founded two massive firms that are still with us today — Sears Roebuck and Stanley Tools — started in business as unlicensed peddlers.

Alex, then, is part of an honorable tradition. In the underground, he's a free man. He's his own boss. He's not forced to punch a clock or wear a uniform or obey annoying corporate work rules. He can pick his own route, do his own market research (Peanut M&Ms, he says, are the key to his success), and thrive during dark economic times. What would happen if we allowed small and mid-sized start-ups like his five or ten or even 15 years before expecting them to become formal entities? What would happen if we offered them tax forgiveness if they reinvested more of their profits in their businesses? What if, instead of treating people like Alex as criminals, we saluted their resilience and ingenuity and encouraged their entrepreneurial spirit?

Wouldn't these actions help grow the economy and save the American Dream?

Do You Have To Know Everything About Your Solutions?

An interesting comment was made by a participant on one of my coaching/training calls when he was summing up Natural Selling.

He said that it's important to "portray yourself as the expert in the solutions you have to offer".

The question is – is it important?

Many years ago when I was selling aftermarket automobile software to different companies throughout the world, two things I didn't have was;

The technical knowledge of how the software worked (only very rudimentary knowledge)

And how a car engine worked!

Now, many might consider this lack of knowledge a drawback. It wasn't… because I took the expert with me! He had the technical skills, while I had the people and counsellor selling skills.

So my job was to facilitate, guide and qualify the dialogue between ourselves and our prospective customers. My first job however, before we presented anything was to discover, listen for and talk about;

What they had

What they wanted (if anything)

The level of importance, or their desire, to do something about it

If a technical question came up, I deferred to my expert and then took the reigns back when it was appropriate. In terms of team selling it proved to be very powerful.

You can do the same thing!

If you think you have to be the person with all the answers (the expert) – you don't! If you do, you'll spend a lot of unnecessary time learning details and answering questions. More time doing this means less time connecting with new people.

So instead here are two easy things you can do;

1. Use Your Sales Aids As Your "Technical Expert"

You have an abundance of sales aids, such as;

3-way calling with those who have the knowledge

Sending your potential partners to a special website

Inviting them to a business call, and so on.

Use whatever is appropriate to help the other person come to a conclusion or a series of conclusions that this is for them or not. And there is a way of doing this that I explain in my book and CD's as well as my coaching and workshops.

2. BE An Expert Guide Facilitator And Qualifier

Think and look on yourself as someone who is the middle person (facilitator or guide) between your potential partner and what your company has to offer. This takes the pressure off you and them. It allows the both of you to have a meaningful dialogue without using any of those resistance causing presenting, closing and objection handling techniques!

And remember, your first job is to qualify them and help them qualify themselves before deciding whether to Transition them into the Presentation Stage of the Natural Selling Way.
