The top design at the show...

FIRST DISTRICT FEDERATED GARDEN CLUBS OF NEW YORK STATE hosted a competitive Standard Flower Show, “FIDDLER ON THE ROOF”  chaired by Leslie & Joel Heffner of the Annadale Garden Club at New Dorp Moravian Church Saturday, June 5, 2010.

RESULTS OF THE COMPETITIVE DISTRCT SHOW ARE AS FOLLOWS:

MAJOR DESIGN DIVISION AWARD WINNERS ARE:

­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Karen Masculi of the Castle Manor Garden Club won the Award of Design Excellence & the Petite Award; _Castle Manor member, IdaFerro,  won the Designer’s Choice Award & the Concetta De Lillo Award; Mary Piraino of the Great Kills Garden Club won the Table Artistry Award  & the Sue Fink Award.

Other first place winners in the Design Division were Lee Gugliada, Angela Doglio & Betty La Femina of the Great Kills Garden Club; Barbara Hosie of the Annadale Garden Club; Matt Cohen of the Castle Manor Garden Club & Carolyn Pinto of the Richmond Ever-Green Garden Club

MAJOR HORTICULTURE DIVISION AWARD WINNERS ARE:

Lee Gugliada won Horticulture Excellence Award Horticulture Sweepstakes & the Arboreal Award. Mary Piraino won the Jeanette De Lillo Award, an Arboreal Award and an Award of Merit. Barbara Hosie, Connie  Galifi, Lucille  Bauer, also won Awards of Merit; Leslie  Heffner won the Collector’s Showcase Award & the Grower’s Choice Award.

Other first place winners in the Horticulture Division  were : Peggy Cullimore-Klein, Stacy Wolski, Angela Doglio, Linda Scarano, Barbara Hosie, Connie Galifi, Lucille Bauer & Karen Masculi.

WINNERS IN THE SPECIAL EXHIBIT DIVISION ARE:

Joel Heffner won the Educational Award; Awards of Appreciation were presented to The Staten Island Herb Society; Annadale member, Leslie Heffner; Garden Therapy Garden Club member, Eileen Torricelli and Lynne McNamara of the South Shore Garden Club.

The First District Flower Show will be held at the New Dorp Moravian Parish House (2205 Richmond Road).

African Violets 3:00-3:30 PM

Unusual Plant Containers (made from clothing) 3:45-4:15 PM

How about trying only one resolution. Pick a plant you’ve never grown before and decide to grow it in 2010. Maybe your garden club can make a list of what each member wants to grow in 2010 and make it part of your next month’s minutes. Then…next year you can come back to check on who actually did it. Each member might even take a picture of it to show at a meeting…in 2011!
