Manicure Monday: Keep Those Eye Shadow Applicators

Have you ever kept one of those little foam eye shadow applicators? Of course not! They were useless- until now! They make for the perfect ombre-nail tool. First, paint nails the lightest color you will be using after applying a clear base coat. Next, dab one side of the eye shadow applicator in your medium shade and dab onto half of each nail. Then, use the opposite side of the applicator, and dab it into your darkest color. Cover the tip of your nail with the darkest color, pressing lightly. Lastly, paint a clear top coat and you are done! Instead of using tape and a foam foundation sponge, using the little eye shadow applicator to paint your nails keeps the cleanup simple and less messy!

16 Makeup Tips for 2016

Most women are not makeup artists. Sure, we have learned a thing or two from our mothers or aunt Cindy, but holding an eyeliner pencil is sometimes scarier than a horror movie. To help you feel more sure of your makeup skill, here are 16 makeup tips to use in 2016 (and get rid of the photo of you with aunt Cindy’s lip liner on)!

1.Apply foundation first, then concealer

2. Use eyeshadow primer to keep eyeshadow looking fresh throughout the day

3. Apply blush only to the cheekbone, not the entire cheek

4. When using eyebrow pencil, darken the outer edges and apply lightly to the inner edges to create a more natural look

5. To shape thick eyebrows, use an eyebrow mascara or gel to keep your eyebrows looking natural

6. Apply foundation to your neck, not the back of your hand, when shopping for the right shade

7. If using only powders, put blush on before contouring your cheekbone. The blush acts as a guide: contour with bronzer right below it

8. For lighter coverage, apply liquid foundation with a damp beauty blender or sponge

9. Curl lashes before applying mascara

10. To make lipstick 3D, apply a lighter color of lipstick to the middle of your bottom lip with your finger

11. If lips are dry and chapped, get rid of the dead skin by scrubbing lips with a toothbrush just after you wash your face

12. Always apply lipstick last

13. Do not match your lipstick to your eyeshadow if it is a bright color

14. Warm mascara by running the tube under warm water for easier application

15. Use a setting spray or powder to keep makeup in place all day long

Being unskilled at beautifying oneself is noteworthy. Practicing makeup and skin care when there is nowhere clear to start is one of the most difficult parts of being a beginner. Luckily for the soon-to-be-beauty-queens, there are multiple hacks to make the process of learning to beautify yourself A LOT easier!

1. How to make sugar scrub

You will need

-1/3 cup brown sugar

-1/4 cup canola oil

-3-5 drops of any essential oil

Combine the brown sugar, canola oil, and essential oil in a small jar or container- anything with a lid. Mix well. Apply to damp hands and scrub for 20 seconds before rinsing hands in warm water.

Sugar scrub exfoliates and smoothens skin to achieve a glowing look. Sugar scrub may be used on other parts of the body, but be gentle when applying sugar scrub to face.

2. How to make mascara last as long as possible

The best way to make the life of your mascara longer is to put a few drops of contact solution or eye drops into the tube. Next, stir the mascara with the wand; do not pump the mascara wand into the tube. Pumping dries out mascara faster than usual. DO NOT USE WATER- this will dry out your mascara in a matter of days.

3. How to apply perfume correctly

Perfume was the concentration of plant oils in water, at least until chemical formulas were used. There are a few ways to make the fragrance last longer throughout the day:

-Spray the fragrance once on both sides of neck, once on the top of your head, and once on your wrist.

-Pat your wrists together, do not rub them together, and allow the perfume to air dry on your neck and head.

-Perfume may also be applied lightly to clothing. The idea is that the scent will last longer if it takes longer to dry from skin and material.

-Remember, less is more!

4. How to prevent lipstick from getting onto your teeth

After your lipstick is set and blotted, put your finger shallowly into your mouth and make an “O” around it with your lips. Your lips should touch your finger lightly. Next, pull your finger out of your mouth and wash off the lipstick that has gotten on your finger.

5. How to contour with only blush

Apply your blush as you would apply your bronzer: onto your temple, brow bone, and cheekbone. If you contour with blush, there is no need to contour with bronzer. Also, less is more in this case. Use a natural tone blush and apply lightly. You can always add more!

Red Carpet Fashion 2016- Brighter Than the Sun

2016 will be remembered as the year that Leonardo DiCaprio won his Oscar! (FINALLY!) Though, the gowns worn on the red carpet were just as memorable! Reese Witherspoon and Heidi Klum wore beautiful, colorful purple gowns, Rachel McAdams wore a forest green dress, Charlize Theron wow-ed us in a daring red dress, and Olivia Munn (pictured below) looked amazing in an orange gown. The red carpet fashion was all about being bright and confident in colors that stand out! Wear statement pieces and be bright this spring to stay in style like your favorite celebrities!

Makeup primer has arrived quite late in the modern makeup game, and this has caused quite a bit of debate. What is makeup primer? Does it do anything that a moisturizer cannot? It is surprising, however, how many professional makeup artists use primers; the only difference is, they use makeup primers that can do more than basic priming. Color correcting and concealing primers are more popular because they do more than one thing, but there is more support for primers: they give a layer for foundation to hold on to. Not only do primers keep makeup where it is applied, but they also create a smooth surface to keep makeup out of pores.

Primer is definitely not necessary for everyday use, but it will keep your makeup fresher, longer.

Marble Manicure Monday

Very few of us are nail art gurus, and those of us who are have an internet channel. However, marble nails just became a whole lot easier with this article from Lulus blog. The only other tool besides regular nail polish and brushes, is a thin hair polish brush. After painting all of your nails, take the thin brush and paint branch-like lines onto the nail. Use a light stroke or else the lines will be too heavy and wide. Good luck, and keep practicing!
