Here I am again... Almost 2 years from my last post. So much has happened and you'd think I would have just given up on this darn thing. Well, I can't stay away. I've taken a much needed break.. went to hell and back.. and now I'm here again to share my daily adventures with you. It's been a long time, so we have LOTS to catch up on, but we'll make it work. Tomorrow I'll get started with playing the "fill you in" game.

Dinner at the Schloss Hotel in Landstuhl

The other night I had the pleasure of dining at the Schloss Hotel in Landstuhl. We drove up the mountain side at the foot of Burg Nanstein and parked the car. The outside of the hotel is so charming.. beautiful landscaping and a quaint fountain welcome you. Our reservations were for 6:30 and we arrived right on time. Our table was waiting with fresh bread and herb butter... Mmmm. The waitress kindly handed us our menus and offered us the wines on hand. It was very relaxing in the restaurant dining room. Nice music.. candle lights.. *sigh* I ordered the Argentinian rumpsteak.. YUM! It came with a wonderful mushroom topping.. fried potatoes.. and the salad bar. (The salad bar was phenominal.. so fresh and flavorful.. one of the best I've ever had)

When the steak came me and Mike could barely contain ourselves. It was cooked perfect and almost melted in my mouth with every bite. *scarf scarf* lol

My favorite book would have to be A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
The story had me hooked the minute I started reading it! It's been years, but I still remember it to a 'T'. Maybe I'll find some time in the near future to enjoy it again. If you haven't had the pleasure, pick up a copy and check it out. It's a great read :)

Jenny Skirt from BurdaStyle

Jenny Skirt from BurdaStyle... I paid 7.50 for the pattern PDF. It's a little pricey for a basic skirt, but the possibilities are endless! I could create numerous designs from this one pattern. (Worth every penny in my opinion.) Above is a picture of my practice skirt.. made from an old sheet. It came out exactly like I wanted. I just need to get it onto some real fabric and add a zipper. The fit is phenomenal as well. This was my first time trying a pattern from Burdastyle and I can honestly say I will be back for more in the near future.

Day #3 Favorite TV Show

I LOVE Degrassi.. (Shhhh.. Don't tell anyone I still watch this haha) It's a show about life in high school, but the most realistic I've seen. The kids aren't spoiled rich and the scenarios are VERY believable. I watch it finding myself able to look back and relate. If you haven't seen the show before and have some time to kill, check it out. You might become hooked like I am! It will have you laughing, crying, cheering, yelling at the screen, and screaming for more when it's over.

Sloppy Joe Pockets.. Quick and OH SO GOOD!

I got this idea from the Pillsbury site... They looked so hearty and filling that I had to give them a try!

Ingredients you'll need--

1lb Ground beef (I got the leanest I could find!)

1 Can Manwich or sloppy joe mix

An onion and pepper (if you'd like)

1-2 Cans of Pillsbury crescent roll dough

1 Egg (for an egg wash if you want shiny pretty pockets) I skipped the egg this time

First, brown your hamburger meat... If you didn't use lean meat you may need to drain the fat after you brown it.

Add your onion and pepper if you choose to do so, just toss them around a bit until your onion is translucent. Now add your sloppy joe sauce mixture and cook until heated. Transfer to a clean mixing bowl to cool before stuffing pockets.

I am impatient and stuck my meat mix in the freezer until it cooled down a lot and then finished cooling in the fridge.

Spread out your crescent dough on a flat cookie sheet. I lined mine with parchment paper to prevent any big messes and the pockets from sticking. You may want to press the seams of the dough triangles together to prevent any large rips while stuffing.

Pull your chilled sloppy joe filling from the fridge and scoop spoonfuls onto your dough. It took about 1 or 2 for my pockets.

It's a little tricky to seal them, but you'll get the hang of it after the first one. Once they are stuffed and sealed you can take your egg and a few teaspoons of water and whisk them together... Brush the tops of your pockets to give them a nice golden shine during baking.

Bake for about 15 minutes at 375 or until the crescent is golden brown and cooked through. I can tell they're done by the buttery crescent smell in the air ;)

Fresh from the oven and ready to bust open from their buttery, flaky cocoons! Mmmmm

Nom, I, NOM, could, NoM, not stop, nOm, eating these things! They hit the spot and reheat well! You could add an endless variety of fillings to these... I know I'll be experimenting in the near future. What kind of combos are you going to try?! I'll be making a coffee pastry this week.. so don't forget to check back!

Coastal Scents Swag! :D

I was very fortunate to receive a gift from my friend Devin recently! I got the Coastal Scents 88 palette, the 10 piece blush palette, a camo quad concealer in medium, a smacks lip gloss in Strut On Nude, and a variety of brushes. I can't describe how excited I was to get home and try them out! :D Well, I guess this picture tells the story LOL

The colors are bright and vibrant in person.. My arm is not the best canvas to demonstrate that, but put some primer on your eyelids and this palette will NOT fail you!

It's like CHRISTMAS!! haha..

Here is the blush palette up close. The colors range from bright to very soft glows. Some have gold flecks in them and some are just a matte glow. They all come off very natural though, which is something I aim for with my daily makeup.

Can you say rainbow?! So many colors to choose from... get crazy with it, or stay in your natural comfort zone! I can't wait to order the ultra shimmer palette!

The lip gloss was o...k. I only wish it had a nicer scent or flavoring to it. The color is great though and the consistency is a nice thick fluid formula. I was nervous with the camo quad, but the colors are great and the makeup is creamy and easy to blend. It works nicely on the eyelids as a base for the shadow if you don't have primer.

I received a kabuki-ish brush that worked like a charm for the blushes.. and nice fat fluffy brush for the shadows... and two contour shadow brushes that blend the pigments so effortlessly!
I've seen so much about Coastal Scents lately and can honestly say I will be ordering more! It's affordable makeup and their products are nice quality. Anywho! Glad to be back my loves!! :D

Happy 3 Year Blogiversary!!

It's been a LONNNNG and crazy week for me! Lots of little busy things and the the holidays have kept me away... BUT, I'm back! Today is my 3 year blog birthday!! I can't believe it's been that long... It seems like only yesterday I started this blog to keep me entertained and share my thoughts with my friends and family. Over these three years that family has grown beyond what I ever could imagine. Thank you for a terrific time!! It's been GREAT!
Now on to my latest....

I ordered these lovely ladies from Amazon last week... Just in time for the gorgeous spring sandal weather we're getting! They're from GoJane and cost me $18.90 (+6 for s+h) SoOoOOoO worth it! They are exactly what I was looking for! I purchased a size 7 and they were true to size. The shipping was quick (considering it took days and I'm all the way in Europe) and the product is excellent quality!

A close-up of the dangling medallions... I love the way they jingle when I walk. I feel like I'm ready to jump into a gladiator battle haha 'Roman goddess here, and Yes, these are my fantabulous new sandals.'

Don't mind the pale feet.. They've been held captive by the sock warriors all winter long.. hehehe

Now I just need to find the spring and summer outfits to go with them ;0)

Burg Nanstein

A couple quick photos of my latest castle exploration, Burg Nanstein. It's about 15 minutes from my home. One of the coolest I've been to and supposedly haunted. *Cue creepy music* It's got a nice little restaurant off of the side with a great view overlooking the Landstuhl/Ramstein area and is very reasonably priced.

Turning a Twin Sheet Set into a Couch Slipcover...

Lately I've been getting quite fed up with the crappy Army issued furniture in my home.

If you've ever lived in housing and borrowed their couches you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about-- PURPLE DINOSAUR SKIN COUCHES! lol... They go with just about nothing in my living room!.. It was about time for a change. Unfortunately, slipcovers can get pretty expensive. That's when I grabbed my purse and started off to the PX. What could I use to improved the awful look of these dreadful couches without blowing a ton of money?

BINGO! I bought a gorgeous chocolate cover for my sofa for just over 80.00... But I still had the chair to spruce up. Hmmmm... A twin size sheet set will do! ;0)

I found a nice chocolate one for around 9 bux! Perrrrfect! Now off to my workshop, I mean, house!

I took the sheets out of the bag and placed them around to get an idea of how I would piece the cover together.

First, I cut the fitted sheet so that the corners fit in the elastic corners. Basically, I cut the fitted sheet in half.

I liked the way it looked and moved on to the next step... I used a seam ripper to pull the elastic out of the sheet corners.

Now take the flat sheet and place it so that the long side is running from the back of the chair to the front of the chair. Fiddle around with it and trim it where it's needed. Once it's in place, pin the three sheet pieces together.

Sew allllll the way around and hem the bottoms.

It should start looking like it's taking the shape of a chair cover.

After the sewing is mostly complete, place it back in the couch and make any necessary adjustments.

Notice how perfectly the fitted sheet corners hug the chair's arms?

Finish tucking and pin anything extra up in place with some pretty little upholstery nails.

Add a pillow or throw and VOILA! No more ugly patterned chairs!

Now, if I wouldn't have told you which cover I bought... could you tell the difference?
My pocket could! ;0) I saved so much $$ making my own chair cover! Hope you enjoy and please feel free to leave your comments or questions.

Spring Is In The Air

Sorry guys.. There's been nothing great going on lately.. It's been crazy on my end.. but here are a few pictures from the week.

Cute little plant I bought from our florist downtown.. There were sooo many I wanted, but this one will do for now! :) I can't wait to plant my flower boxes outside my windows.

Relabeling and Organizing My Spice Collection.

First I found glass jars that I wanted to use. (They had sprinkle caps and a screw top.. Perfect!) Then, I cleaned them up in some warm soapy water and set them off to dry.

Once they were completely dry, I stuck their new labels on. I found some really cute labels by Martha Stewart that suited my project to the 'T'. :)

Now is the time to grab your spice selection out of your cabinet. Ewww look how mix-matched!

Toss any spices that are past their freshness date!! I never keep old spices! It defeats the purpose when you are seasoning food with flavorless powers.

Once all of the bad ones are weeded out, pour your spices into their fresh new bottles!

TADDAAAA! Look how much better that looks! Everything is coordinated and so tasty to the eyes! Time to put them to use! Wahhooooo!

Baby Shower Baby Bump Cake!

This is why I haven't posted in a few days! I've been busy like a bee, but I've got lots to share! First up-- My newest cake creation. Here is a pregnant belly cake.. preggo, maternity.. baby bump.. cake! One of my friends called me up last week and asked me to make a baby shower cake for an expecting mother :) Here is what I came up with.. Congrats on the baby boy on the way! How exciting!

My Latest 'Keep Me Busy' Project

There's nowhere close by to buy patterns, and ordering online takes FOR-EV-ERRR, so I searched the internet and found a really cute and simple purse pattern on Made By Rae . Here's what I came up with! ;0) My ACU Buttercup Purse.

Our fabric is limited, so I find it where I can! LOL Just measure it out to a fat quarter and make it work!

I cut my pattern pieces and pinned my pleats.

Walking Around Baumholder..

Here are a few pictures from walking around the town I live in. Enjoy :)

Here is the old washing well. This is wear the town's people used to come and do their laundry. If you look closely you can see the statue of a woman washing her clothes. It's very pretty in summer.

Many of the buildings are built from the old wall that surrounded the town.

This is pretty cool.. A lot of people like to collect the Earth from their homes or places they travel to be burried with. I think I might have to start a collection :)

Yum! Brotchen @ Home!

I picked up some of these bad boys at the E Neukauf yesterday. Talk about 'yum'! I hate when the bakeries are closed here on Sundays, so I was looking for some breakfast (fruhstuck) items when I saw these on the shelf. You just heat them in the oven until they are crisp and brown and then serve.

Golden Toast's Sonntagsbrotchen.

I guess they are 'Sonntagsbrotchen' (Sunday bread) because this is the only stuff you can get for Sunday morning lol. They come with 8 per bag.. perfect for fresh bread throughout the day!

Ready for the hot oven! 400 F for about 12 mins..

Nice hard rolls.. Crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. *Heavenly*

Serve with butterkase or pair with a fruit spread for a divine start to your day. I chose Zentis' wild berry jam... ugh! To. die. for.
Hope your Sunday morning breakfast was as tasty ;0) Now I just need to find a recipe to make them from scratch!

Out and about at the mall in Neunkirchen..

Last Thursday I went on a short trip to Neunkirchen.. (a town about an hour away) I hopped the train in Neubrucke and spent the day at the mall in the center of town. It was nice to get out of Baumholder and had plenty to choose from.

I walked the streets to the center of the city and stopped off in a couple of the side shops. There's a zoo nearby as well, but I didn't have time to check it out. Maybe next trip!

The mall has a T.K. Maxx (like T.J. Maxx lol), gift shops, shoe stores, clothing stores and numerous restaurants.

I had lunch at an Italian place.. The food was incredible! Nico (the old manager/possibly owner) was super welcoming and we all practiced playing with our languages.. a little English.. a little Italian, and some German. I order the 'rigatoni spinaci'. The gorgonzola cream sauce was amazing and the spinach was delightfully fresh! Mmmmmm I guess I'll have to hold off my cravings until my next trip.. Oh the torture!!! lol

A Few Highlights From My Outing Today..

I spent the day in Idar-Oberstein and had quite a few things that made it special lol

Here is a random drawing some child made. It was posted up in the bus to Idar. If you look close you can see it is a plane.. Not just any plane though, THIS plane was shooting bloody bullets and little bloody stick people. What in the heck does this kid see daily?!! lol It was pretty disturbing. Now on to my breakfast!...

YUM! Bruschetta! .. Or so I thought! I went through the breakfast line at Globus today and saw what I thought was a delicious half of brotchen with crushed tomatoes, onions and herbs on top... BOY WAS I WRONG.

I bit in prepared for a sweet zesty bite of tomatoes and got a mushy salty bite of FRESH, RAW MEAT! You heard me right.. and it's very common here in Germany. My friend Gundi was so proud when she saw me select it! 'What a brave and adventurous moved for a foreigner' she thought. Too bad I had NO clue what the heck I grabbed!

I carefully scraped the meat onto my plate and scarfed down the bread.

Welp! The bread was good!.. hehe..

This little old man got the biggest kick out of me and my breakfast.. He couldn't understand why I wasn't eagerly eating my fresh ground meat and kept cheering me on. lol... Lucky for him, Chelsea, a girl that was along with me, was more than happy to give him hers after watching my ordeal haha. Look at him! He's happier than a fat tick on a coonhound!

After breakfast we went on with our shopping.. Here is a picture of a section in the meat counter... I love how German's give everything a personality and character. Little bear meat and faces... Gotta love it! With cool meat like that, who wouldn't want a sandwich??! :)

Finally! It has arrived! Here is the Hangover tshirt I ordered from Crazydogtshirts.com. I bought a small and it fits great... Not to mention baby Carlos on the front is kick arse! I saw some women's shirts on another site, but the shirt design wasn't as good as Crazy Dog Tshirts. It's actually and offical Warner Bros. Entertainment product.. so it's legit. It cost me about $18.00 and got here rather quick.

I wonder what kind of looks I'll get wearing this around?!! haha
