I just wanted to say Happy New Year to all my friends and followers of my blog. It's much more fun than playing out in the wastes with just hills and mesas. So I got it home and started assembling some buildings. I really liked some of the ones that were in the battle reports in this month's White Dwarf. So looked at them for some inspiration. After assembling and gluing them to a hardboard base I decided to clip up a bunch of the sprue the buildings came on and glue it down around the base of the buildings for rubble. Then just glued some sand to the base and on top of the sprue.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 86px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Tj1KO5eXYbk/TOv8p8uxiUI/AAAAAAAAAL0/XWLLsq6Vx1c/s200/desertScenery1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542801564016675138" />Next up was to primer and paint the buildings. Also I found my last piece of moonscape so figured I'd do up a crater for this table as well. I primed them all black and got out my gw spray gun and sprayed a coat of vermin brown onto my new structures. Next up I did an overbrush of Tausept Ochre and finished off with a drybrush of bleached bone. As you can see in the pics, they came out nicely.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; float: left; cursor:pointer; cursor:hand; width:102px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Tj1KO5eXYbk/TOv-aucu_7I/AAAAAAAAAL8/-BNhAKa1WDA/s200/desertScenery3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542803501508132786" />I figured while I was at it I'd also assemble and paint my Honoured Imperium set. So I assembled everything and primed it up and painted the broken aquilla and the ruined piece of building to match the other scenery for the desert table. I figured I'd use the Space Marine statue on various tables so went with a bronze color for it and a cement color for the base. So first up was a coat of tin bitz on the statue and an overbrush of codex grey on the base. Next I did a drybrush of dwarf bronze on the statue and a drybrush of graveyard earth on the base. Finally I finished off the base with a drybrush of bleached bone. For the statue I did a drybrush of shining gold. Now I could have stopped here but wanted it to look weathered and old so I decided to give it some oxidation by doing a wash of hawk turquoise mixed with a touch of snot green and some of the old gw green wash (from like 98) as I couldn't seem to find my thraka green wash. After diluting all this with water I went about adding wash into recesses on the status and around rivets, etc. As you can see in the pic, I think it came out rather well.

Til next time,
Steevo

New Land Raider Achilles

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 272px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Tj1KO5eXYbk/TOlOwNXvKzI/AAAAAAAAALk/vJBY9lGGTJg/s320/LR-achilles.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542047406586014514" />Those lance weapons make you want to stop taking a land raider in your army list? Well here's the answer... The Land Raider Achilles! It's gonna give you 4 models less transport capabnility (6 models), and loses its assault ramp, so only has doors on the sides, but boasts twin-linked multi-meltas on the sponsons and a hull-mounted thunderfire cannon! Thanks to its Feromantic Invulnerability lance weapons don't do their dirty deed against it and melta weapons don't get their plus one at all. As a matter of fact it reduces the damage result by 1. So it will never explode unless hit with a strength "D" weapon!

Finally, a way Space Wolves can take a thunderfire cannon! Check it out:
Land Raider Achilles
Land Raiser Achilles Rules

Til next time,
Steevo

Space Wolves vs Orks and vs Chaos

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 287px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Tj1KO5eXYbk/TON1u-p9iMI/AAAAAAAAALc/VWdPnvn_ng4/s320/14511_WOLF_ICON.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5540401416549271746" />So I played two games today. I finally took on Matt's orks and then This evening took on Duane's Word Bearers.

So Matt and I finally got together at the GW White Marsh store for a game of 40k today. 2000 points. I have been playing my new 2k list. Matt brought out a TON of boyz. I think overall he had like 200 or so models on the table! he had like 6 - 30 boy mobz plus some support. we played a pitched battle set up with the mission being annihilation.

Of course This was a tall order for me to be able to win. Though gave it my best but in the end, I just couldn't take out enough boyz before he wiped me off the table.

Then this evening I took on Duane's Word Bearer Chaos marines list! his list contained 2 15-man marine squads with icon bearers, a defiler, vindicator, 3 lesser demon squads, 1 demon prince, a greater demon, and a lord and squad in terminator armor.

Well we decided to play seize ground and 12" pitched battle. Duane rolled higher then me and decided he would let me go first... BAD IDEA! I wound up winning the game with some highlights being one mark of the wolfen model being turned into a spawn, all 3 squads of lesser demons being destroyed in hand-to-hand combat, and the DP being destroyed after 3 full turns of hand-to-hand. In the end I had one objective of 3 and the foul forces of chaos were whittled down to a small threat. It was nice to get a win! Next time I hope Duane won't let his opponent go first when he rolls higher! Will be playing more games with my new 2k list. It seems to be doing well overall.

Til next time,
Steevo

40k Posters

Clive over at A Painters Tabletop found some fun motivational posters centered around Warhammer 40K. A box the FedEx guy left from Battlefoam! My Pack 720 finally arrived! My wife, Nancy, bought it for me back in May as a birthday gift. First the hold up was that I decided to commission Dave Taylor to build and paint me a Leman Russ Primarch model. So I wanted to have a spot in the case for him. So had to wait for Dave to finish building him so he could give me a pic so I could have a trace to send them. So once I received the pic and sent them my load out, including traces for characters and other models that wouldn't fit in a standard troop slot in the case, I received an email saying they were out of the cases themselves and I would have to wait until November. This was back in September.

So here it is, first weekend in November and I received the case! I'm excited. Just look at all the spots for models! The 720 gives you 12" of foam for your minis. You can either go with their standard foam pieces or do some custom layouts or both. I did both. Now my WHOLE Space Wolves army fits in one case (except for my drop pods, I'll be ordering a GW case custom foam for them.) So now back to painting my Wolves and onto playing more games with them!

Til next time,
Steevo

New 2000 Point List

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 116px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Tj1KO5eXYbk/TMpkBDpimJI/AAAAAAAAAK0/YhXCbCGNCv4/s200/_runepriest1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5533345061500262546" />Most of the games played at my FLGS are averaging 2k nowadays. So I figured I'd try to put a new list together to try to get in some wins. The list is very troop heavy. It fits the fluff for Ragnar's company, as I'm dropping in 3 squads in Drop Pods. I also decided to run 3 rune priests in the army. Well, I only had 2... The actual GW model that I painted last year and the one I made from a chaos warrior using the tutorial on the Space Wolves blog. So I decided to make another for the list.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 138px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Tj1KO5eXYbk/TMpkRJ34qHI/AAAAAAAAALE/DIYs1fzCe9U/s200/_runepriest2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5533345338048948338" />I used a WHFB Chaos warrior once again. I also used some ideas Dave Taylor did on the Leman Russ model I commissioned him to make. Here are pics of the new Rune Priest. I still have to prime and paint him.

Anyway, on to the new army list:

HQ
Skjold Stormcrusher – (Rune Priest)
Power Armour, Rune Axe, Wolftail Talisman
- Jaws Of The World Wolf
- Living Lightning

Ulrik ThunderBringer – (Rune Priest)
Power Armour, Rune Axe,Wolftail Talisman
- Living Lightning
- Murderous Hurricane

Bolverk Nightclaw – (Rune Priest)
Power Armour, Rune Axe, Wolftail Talisman
- Jaws of the World Wolf
- Murderous Hurricane

ELITES
Wolf Guard Pack
Burek Fangfist - Power Armor, Combi-Melta, Power Fist
Hrothgar Longtooth - Power Armor, Combi-Melta, Power Fist
Jurgen Ironbrow - Power Armor, Combi-Melta, Power Fist
Ivarr Krakenfist - Term Armor, Stormbolter, Cyclone Missile
 Launcher

Wolf Scout Pack RazorFist (6)
(3)Boltguns, (2) Sniper Rifles, Meltagun

TROOPS
Grey Hunter Pack Stormcrusher (8)
Boltguns, Bolt Pistols, Chainswords, Frag & Krak Grenades, Meltagun, Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Drop Pod

Grey Hunter Pack Thunderbringer (8)
Boltguns, Bolt Pistols, Chainswords, Frag & Krak Grenades, Meltagun, Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Drop Pod

Grey Hunter Pack Nightclaw (8)
Boltguns, Bolt Pistols, Chainswords, Frag & Krak Grenades, Meltagun, Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Drop Pod

Grey Hunter Pack Thunderborn (10)
Boltguns, Bolt Pistols, Chainswords, Frag & Krak Grenades, (2)Meltaguns, Power Fist, Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Rhino

Grey Hunter Pack Firebite (10)
Boltguns, Bolt Pistols, Chainswords, Frag & Krak Grenades, (2)Meltaguns, Power Fist, Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Rhino

HEAVY SUPPORT
Long Fang Squad Krakenfist (6)
(5) Missile Launchers, razorback w/ twin-linked assault cannons

The Storm's Wrath (Vindicator)

The list comes out to 1998 points. He almost tabled me at the end of turn 5. Ragnar and his wolf guard in their land raider crusader were still alive and that was it. Bill ended up with over 2400 victory points from me. While I ended up with about a thousand or so.

<img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; float: left; padding: 5px; cursor: pointer; width: 163px; height: 113px; border:0;" src="http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m290028a_P2Mb1.jpg" alt="Space Wolves Battle Tyranids" title="Space Wolves take on the Great Devourer... As most of you on here know, nids are my other army I play for 40k. So hopefully it will give me the insight i need to defeat this xenos threat!

Charles and Jason played in a game for the tournament and charles defeated Jason's chaos army through the luck or should I say bad luck of dice rolling more than anything. Poor Jason was rolling pretty badly. Also Another great battle for the tournament I saw at the store tonight was Jank's necrons vs John's nids. Some very cool stuff there!

We'll see how I do tomorrow. Hopefully much better than the other day!

Til next time,
Steevo

Blood Angels VS Space Wolves

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 187px; height: 269px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Tj1KO5eXYbk/TK5TLPtrx_I/AAAAAAAAAKs/l8aLQ6OIDZU/s320/riseofthelycans.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525445245491988466" />Well, once again Bill has come out victorious. Though this time it was a pretty even fight... just came down to some bad rolls. Each turn one of us was pounding on the other. But in the thick of it all it turns out we missed a few of the rules for the tournament and will have to have a rematch. So this just turned out to be a warm up battle.

It was probably the closest game we've had in over ten years. So sometime within the next week we'll go at it again. Will post the results after it's done.

Other upcoming battles... My wolves vs Rich's Khorne army and a friendly 2k game with Matt's ork horde and possibly Mike's marines.

Til next time,
Steevo

Throne of Skulls List

So the game is on for Sunday! Bill will be bringing his Blood Angels to take on my Space Wolves. It's Rise of the Lycans 2010 lol. I'm sure he'll have plenty of Death Company and dreads, deep striking landraiders, and fast rhino chasis tanks. Not to mention some drop pods and terminators to go along with his special characters (astorath, etc.)

We get to add one extra elite, fast attack, or heavy choice and it's a 3200 point game. So here's what I put together...
HQ
Ragnar Blackmane, Njal Stormcaller, Rune Priest, Wolf Priest

ELITES
10-man Wolf Guard Pack (LR Crusader as a dedicated transport)
Dreadnought

TROOPS
3 10-man Grey hunter packs
15-man Blood Claw pack with Lukas the trickster and led by a wolf priest

HEAVY
2 6-man Long Fang Squads (1 all missile launchers, 1 with plasma cannons, lascannons and a missile launcher)
2 Vindicators

All said and done it came out to 3200 points EXACTLY! I still have to put another vindicator together for the game.

So we'll see how the game goes on Sunday. Hopefully triple ten (10-10-2010) will be a good day for the wolves!

Til next time,
Steevo

And So It Begins!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 187px; height: 269px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Tj1KO5eXYbk/TK5TLPtrx_I/AAAAAAAAAKs/l8aLQ6OIDZU/s320/riseofthelycans.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525445245491988466" />Halloween is coming up and my local GW store is having a Throne Of Skulls tournament this month. Play 3 games 3200 points each and best score wins the trophy. So this Sunday, in the spirit of the season, I'll be playing against Bill and his Blood Angels with my Space Wolves! It's "Rise of the Lycans" all over again!

Knowing Bill he'll have plenty of Death Company, Dreadnoughts, and Deep Striking Land Raiders. Not to mention his Drop pods, Termies, and fast moving Rhino variants (predator, vindicator, etc.) So I am gonna have to put together a good list to try to take out the blood suckers and get myself closer to that trophy. I commissioned him to build and paint a Leman Russ primarch model for my Space Wolves army. While my conversion skills aren't bad, we all know Dave is the man. Here are a few pics of the model. He's one and a half times as tall as a normal power armored marine! Have a game coming up vs my friend, Bill's Blood Angels. Should be fun. Will post pics after the battle. Bill and I are also talkin bout an apoc game (his orks vs my wolves) in the near future... Russ will return from the warp along with some pre-heresy bodyguard and Freki and Geri! Except I used a lil green stuff to add more fur instead of the loin cloth looking parchment. I didn't want the same model as the one I already had. So using some chaos warrior torsos and space wolves parts I was able to put together my own rune priest. Was pretty easy overall. Now back to painting my army to get ready for the GW in-store tournament beginning at the end of May. I have a whole 1750 point army to paint up!

Til next time,
Steevo

Wolves Underway

ok so I just got married last night... My wife is awesome and is supportive in the hobby. So will not be posting next week as I'll be on my honeymoon.

That being said, I finally finished assembling the last piece i needed for my tournament army... My Land Raider Crusader. I used some of the etched brass you can get from forge world as well as some bits from the wolf guard terminator sprues. It turned out pretty decent.

Now to paint the whole 1750 point army! Look for more pics and posts in a couple weeks. The last weekend in May, June, and July, you bring 1750pts of your favorite GW 40k army. As long as it's a legal main list out of a current codex. I dunno what they mean by that. But anyway, you play one game per weekend and the scores get turned into GW US HQ. The three highest scoring players will receive what GW is saying "an amazing prize." Also the highest scoring individual in each GW store will also receive a prize!

With the move all done and the fact that I unpacked the wolves and have been getting my hobby area in the garage set up, I'm gonna give this a shot!

So first off was sitting down and creating a 1750 point list. This took a lil time shaving off points here and there from what I WANTED to take. After going over some things I finally came up with a list. Let me know what you guys think. Next up will be to paint the list as all my wolves, save the rune priest I painted up in the fall, are all just primed black (landraider crusader and drop pod are still bare plastic.) I figure I have almost 2 months to get them done. Should be able to do it. Will keep you posted as to my progress.

1750 List
HQ
Ragnar Blackmane
Skjold Stormcrusher (Rune Priest) - Living Lightning, Jaws Of The World Wolf

ELITES
Wolf Guard (Assigned to squads bearing their name)
- Hakon Razorfang - Power Armor, Thunder Hammer, Bolt Pistol
- Hrothgar Longtooth - Power Armor, Combi-melta, Power Fist
- Volund The Honorable - Power Armor, Pair of Wolf Claws

TROOPS
Grey Hunter Squad Nightwolf (10) - (2) Meltaguns, Power Fist
Grey Hunter Squad Razorfang (9) - Plasma Gun, Power Fist, Drop Pod
Blood Claw Squad Longtooth (9) - Power Fist, Flamer, Rhino
Blood Claw Squad Volund (9) - Power Fist, Flamer Rhino

HEAVY SUPPORT
Long Fang Squad Ironbrow (4) - 3 Heavy Bolters
Long Fang Squad Bloodstorm (5) - Lascannon, (2) Missile Launchers, Multi-Melta
Landraider Crusader

1749 points... came in at 1 point under. The price wasn't bad and it will be kewl to have dice to go with my army! As others have also stated, I can't say where but if you're a serious gamer you'll know where to order yours! I decided to go with the yellow dice with black as this matches my shoulder pads with Ragnar's icon. The Wolf symbol is the 6 on the dice. Hopefully I'll be seeing lots of wolves when rolling hehee.

Til next time,
Steevo

Warboss Fozdik Almost In Total Control

That's right, Warboss Fozdik managed to defeat the Valhallans yesterday and conquer their spaceport. Fozdik and his boyz brought the waagh in a mighty 3k Apocalypse game yesterday and conquered yet another territory. The Valhallan regiment just couldn't take down the mighty stompas the greenskins brought to battle. This means that Bill only needs one more tile to win the campaign! Who will be next to take on the Mighty Fozdik and his boyz?

Rumor has it that Tony and his Eldar warhost may be the next to challenge Bill and his boyz. Or maybe it will be Lord Hutchinson and his Cadian battle group? Who knows? All games are 3K and up and have the possibility to be apoc games with no more than 3 datafaxes/formations for the rest of this week.

The official Imperial Communique that is dispatched every Sunday will have more results as well as any other new rules for the upcoming week.

The curent campaign map is below:

Til next time,
Steevo

Yummy Niddy Goodness

That's right here's a preview of one of the new nid creatures coming in the new codex in January! They were my first army when I got into the hobby in 95. So now I decided to do a new army of them. My biggest gripe... the Ragnar Blackmane model. If you look at the pic to the left it's the same static model that was released in 95! That was fine for second edition 40K, but not for 5th edition fifteen years later. If you read his fluff he's not a stand and give orders kind of character AT ALL! So I decided to make my own.

After looking at a few different models I decided to use the Lukas The Trickster model. He's in a great pose, running in for the charge. Of course I won't be keeping the model stock. First was to cut off his head and replace it with a more suitable head. One of the heads from the new Wolf Pack box was perfect! Had a topknot and was modeled shouting. When I cut off Lukas' head I had to cut most of the collar with it so will have to use some green stuff and mold a new one. I pinned the head onto Lukas' body.

Next was to clip off a few details from Lukas' armor. The tail on his left and the horn on his right were both clipped off. Will have to go back and green stuff the belt back in as some of it was cut off when clipping the tail.

Next up was a bolt pistol from the Wolf Pack box and then on to making his frostblade. In order to do this right (and a little easier), I changed the sword and pistol around. So he's holding the sword in his left hand and pistol in his right. We'll just say he's ambidextrous lol. So anyway, for the frostblade i used the power sword from the new wolf pack box and 2 chainswords also from the new box. I clipped the blade off of the power sword and clipped the blades from 2 chainswords. First, using plastic glue, I lined the 2 chainswords up and glued them together. Once the glue had set I glued the long chainsword blade to the hilt of the power sword. Next I pinned and glued the arms to the model in a cool dynamic pose.

Also the official Ragnar model has a wolf head that sticks out from his left shoulder pad instead of a transfer or molded shoulder pad that comes in the Wolf Pack box or the metal molded shoulder pad you can order. So I was trying to figure out what I was gonna do for the wolf head. So it hit me while lookin through the new wolf bits. The thunder hammer has a wolf head on the back of the head. This was perfect size! So I cut one off and filed it a little to get the curve to match the shoulder pad. I pinned it on and now just have to add a lil green stuff to fill in the small gap where it meets the shoulder pad. You can see it on the table in the pic to the left. Once I get this green stuffing done, I'll add Lukas' backpack/cloak to the model and then he'll be ready to prime and paint. The pic to the left there is what I have done so far. Like I said just a little bit of green stuffing to do then glue on the shoulder pads, the cloak, and prime and paint him up. Once that's done I'll glue him to a base done up like the rest of the army(lava and rock.) Once I get him done I'll post pics.

Til next time,
Steevo
