Juicy nut-cake - Saftiger Nusskuchen

I'm always on the prowl for juicy cakes and this nut-cake is really really lucious.

Ich bin immer auf der Jagd nach saftigen trockenen Kuchen und dieser Nusskuchen ist es wirklich.

You need

200gr. bittersweet chocolate (chopped)
200 gr ground hazelnuts
6 eggs, separated
1 heaped teaspoon baking powder
200 gr butter, very soft
250 gr sugar
130 gr flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
some salt

Ihr braucht

200 gr gehackete dunkle Schokloade
200 gr. gemahlene Haselnüsse
6 Eier (getrennt)
200 gr. weiche Butter
250 gr Zucker
130 gr Mehl
1 gehäuften Teelöffel Backpulver
1 Teelöffel Zimt
1 Prise Salz

Preheat your oven to 180ºC/350ºF. Butter a cake tin and line it with baking paper.

Ofen auf 180 Grad vorheizen und Kuchenform leicht ausbuttern und mit Backpapier auslegen.

Whizz the butter and the sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg yolks, one at a time. When the mixture is nice and smooth stir in the flour and the baking pwoder. After that add the chocolate, the hazelnuts and the cinnamon - mix well.

Butter und Zucker schön schaumig rühren, und dann nacheinander die Eigelbe dazurühren. Gut rühren und anschließend das Mehl und das Backpulver dazugeben, danach Nüsse, Schokolade und Zimt einrühren - gut mischen.

In a separate bowl whisk the egg whites with a little bit of salt until they form soft peaks. Stir a spoonful of egg white into the choxcolate-hazelnut mixture. Add the rest of the egg white and fold together carefully.

In einer separaten Schüssel die Eiweiße mit einer Prise Salz steif schlagen. Erst einen Esslöffel Eiweiß in die Nuss-Schokoladen-Mischung einrühren, danach den Rest vorsichtig unterheben.

Spoon into the prepared cake tin and smooth the mix out evenly with the back of a spoon. Place on the middle shelf of your preheated oven and bake for about 50 - 60 minutes - until cooked through, risen and golden brown. I always check to see if the cake is cooked by poking a cocktail stick into it. If it comes out clean the cake is cooked; if slightly sticky, it needs a bit longer, so back in the oven with the cake.

Die Masse in die vorbereitete Form einfüllen und mit einem Schaber glattstreichen. In der Mitte des Ofen ca. 50 - 60 Minuten backen - je nach Ofen. Ich mache immer die Stäbchenprobe. Wenn noch etwas Teig am Stäbchen haftet, braucht er noch was.

Leave the cake to cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then turn it out on to a rack and rest for at least an hour. After that you can add your icing. I usually take a hazelnut icing but chocolate would be cool too:-)

Kuchen 10 Minuten in der Form auskühlen lassen und danach auf einen Kuchenrost stürzen und noch mindestens eine Stunde auskühlen lassen. Danach die Lieblingsglasur auftragen. Ich nehme immer eine Haselnussglasur, aber Schokolade ist auch cool:-).

Ornament Swap 2011

Last year the wonderful Renate asked Janna and me to do an ornament swap. I was proud and eager to do that. This year we did it again - and let me tell you Renate and Janna made me the most beautiful ornaments. Look at this incredible bell Renate sent me. I do not know how she did that but I know I'm in love with it. It looks like a perfect little flower with the green patina on its lead and the wire with the balled ends in the middle. And she packed it in a little cone that was an ornament itself.

Vergangenes Jahr hat die wundervolle Renate Janna und mich gefragt, ob wir nicht Ornamente austauschen wollen. Ich war so stolz und erpicht darauf dies zu machen. Dieses Jahr haben wir es wieder gemacht - und ehrlich - Renate und Janna haben mir die wundervollsten Ornamente gemacht. Schaut nur diese Hammerglocke, die Renate mir geschickt hat. Ich weiß noch nicht einmal, wie sie sie gemacht hat, aber ich weiß, dass ich total in die Glocke verknallt bin. Sie sieht wie eine perfekte Blüte aus, mit dem Blatt mit der grünen Patina und Kupferdraht als Blütenstempel. verpackt hatte sie es in einem niedlichen Säckchen, dass selbst ein tolles Ornament war.

Jannas ornament was incredibly cool too. She filled a little fluted cake pan with the picture of a cute little angel and then with resin. The pan sits in a sari silk swing. Janna, you are my resin-queen.

Janna Ornament war genauso cool. Sie hat eine gewelltes Backförmchen mit dem Bild einer kleinen Putte und Resin aufgefüllt. Das Förmchen hängt in einer Schaukel aus Sariseide. Janna, Du bist meine Resin-Königin.

I have to admit my ornaments were so much simpler. I took salt dough and made little snowmen. But my mother loved it so I made her one too.

Meine Ornamente waren viel einfacher. Ich habe kleine Schneemänner aus Salzteig gebacken. Aber meine Mutter fand sie süß. Daher habe ich ihr auch einen gemacht.

Maybe you remember the rings? These are the matching bracelets. They are made from 8/0er Hexs, 11/0er Seedbeads and 4 and 6 mm crystals- I looooove that pattern from Try-to-be. It is made up fairly quickly and makes fun.

Vielleicht erinnert Ihr Euch noch an diese Ringe? Dies sind die passenden Armbänder.Gemacht sind sie aus 8/0er Hexs, 11/0er Rocailles und 4 und 6 mm Kristalle. Ich lieeeeebe dieses Muster von Try-to-be. Geht ganz schnell und macht riesigen Spaß.

And I do think that this looks like an enchanted carpet. Don't you think?

Und ich finde wirklich, dass sie wie verzauberte Teppiche aussehen. Findet Ihr nicht?

And now there are only a few days left and then it is xmas - cannot believe it, this year has flown by....

Und nun sind es nur noch ein paar Tage und dann ist es Weihnachten - ich kann es nicht glauben. Dieses Jahr ist einfach vorbeigeflogen...

Okay, I admit it - I looooove Missoni. The patterns and colors of their collections are divine. A little bit of them was my inspiration for the beaded beads in this bracelet. What do you think, did I hit or muss them?

After Meknes we travelled to Fes, Fes, the former capital, and also one of the country's four "imperial cities".
This town is unbelievable. The streets are small, dark and often crowded. It is interesting, exciting and completely different from Rabat or Meknes.

Nach Meknes sind wir nach Fes gereist. Fes,die frühere Haupstadt ist ebenfalls eine von Marokkos vier Königstädten. Die Stadt ist unglaublich. Die Straßen sind schmal,dunkel, eng und oft auch überfüllt. Es ist spannend, aufregend und sehr verschieden von Rabat oder Meknes.

Fes el-Bali, the old, walled medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is believed to be the world largest contiguous car-free urban area. So the cars of Fes are donkeys. There are said to be about 30.000 of them in the Medina. Due to that the traffic-signs are for donkeys here.

Fes el-Bali, die alte von Mauern umgebene Medina ist UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe und außerdem die größte zusammenhängende autofreie Stadtzone der Welt. Daher sind die Autos von Fes Esel, nach Schätzungen leben in der Medina etwa 30.000 Stück von ihnen. Daher sind die Straßenschilder hier auch für Esel.

The most impressive sites in Fes are the tennaries. Despite the fact that I felt pity for the people working there. it was truly a thing to see.

Das beeindruckendste Schauspiel in Fes sind die Gerbereien. Und auch wenn mir die Arbeiter sehr leid taten, war es dennoch ein Wahnsinnsanblick.

And of course there were suoqs

Und natürlich gab es Souks.

And besides the Souqs there were satellite dishes...

Und außer den Souks gab es auch noch Satellitenschüsseln...

In Fes we got our car and headed towards Erg Chebbi through the middle Atlas. The scenery is ...oh my.

In Fes bekamen wir unseren Wagen und sind damit Richtung Erg Chebbi durch den Mittleren Atlas agefahren. Die Landschaft ist einfach...oh my...

Then we arrived at Erg Chebbi, one of Morocco's two Saharan ergs – large dunes formed by wind-blown sand

Dann erreichten wir Erg Chebbi, eines der zwei Sahara Ergs - große vom Wind gefprmte Sanddünen.

Die Straße in die Wüste war witzig - nicht besonders verlassen :-)

And the desert left me speechless - it was quiet, peaceful and so so pretty. We went into the big dunes with camels and friendly guides to help us helpless amateurs. The night in the desert in tents were absolutly stunning and an expierence I will never forget.

Und die Wüste hat mich einfach sprachlos gemacht - es war ruhig, friedlich und so so schön. Wir sind auf Kameln in diie Wüste geritten mit freundlichen Führern, die uns hilflosen Amateueren beigestanden haben. Die Nacht in der Wüste war unvergesslich und eine Erfahrung, die ich nie vergessen werde.

Back from Morocco - Zurück aus Marokko

We are back! And it was fantastic. We travelled by bus, train, car and camel, slept in riads, hotels and in tents - it was diffrent, fantastic and every minute was exciting. I've never met friendlier people and I will never forget the odeur and the colors this country has to offer.

Wir sind zurück! Und es war fantastisch. Wir sind per Bus, Zug, Auto und Kamel gereits, haben in Riads, Hotels und Zelten geschlafen - es war anders, fantastisch und jede Minute war aufregend. Ich habe noch nie freundlicher Menschen getroffen und werde nie die Gerüche und Farben vergessen, die dieses Land zu bieten hat.

We started our trip in the capital Rabat and - looking back - I have to say it was the most european and elegant city. Our first stop here was Chellah, a necropolis and complex of ancient Roman and medieval ruins.

Unseren Trip gestartet haben wir in der Hauptsadt Rabat und im Rückblick war das auch die europäischse und eleganteste Stadt. Unser erster Stop hier war Chellah, eine Nekropole uns Komplex römischer und mittelalterlicher Ruinen.

Then we went to the Hassan Tower: It is the minaret of an incomplete mosque.It was begun in 1185, and the tower was intended to be the largest minaret in the world along with the mosque, also intended to be the world's largest. In 1199, Sultan Yacoub al-Mansour died and construction on the mosque stopped. The tower only reached 44 m (140 ft), about half of its intended 86 m (260 ft) height. The rest of the mosque was also left incomplete, with only the beginnings of several walls and 200 columns being constructed.

Danach sind wir zum Hassan Turm gefahren, ein Minarett einer unvollendeten Moschee. Begonnen in 1185 sollte es einmal zusammen mit der Moschee das höchste Minarett der Welt werden, aber als Sultan Yacoub al-Mansour 1199 starb, blieb alles unvollendet. Der Turm ist nur 44 statt der geplanten 86 Meter hoch und auch der Rest blieb unvollendet., nur ein paar Mauern und 200 Säulen wurden gebaut.

What I loved the most was the Kasbah of the Udayas. It was all quiet and everything is white and blue with beautiful doors .- and a muscian here and there...

Was mir am besten gefallen hat war die Kasbah. Sie war ganz ruhig, alles war weiß und blau mit wundervollen Türen - und einem Musiker hier und da...

And in Rabat we had the first encounter with the great markets - souqs. The colors, the noise and the crowd of people are amazing.

In Rabat hatten wir auch unsere erste Begegnung mit den Suoqs. Die Farben, der Lärm und die Menschenmassen sind unglaublich.

And we all don't want to know what happened to the turtles after that pics - und wir wollen alle nicht wissen, was mit den Schildkröten nach dem Foto passiert ist...

On the next day we went to Meknes ny train - it was much more oriental then Rabat - with another impressive and morbid medina, a medersa, great gates and the most amazing ancient royal stables...

Am nächsten Tag sind wir nach Meknes mit dem Zug gefahren - es war sehr viel orientalischer als Rabat - mit einer ebenfalls beeindruckenden und auch etwas morbiden Altstadt, einer Koranschule, großartigen Toren und den absolut atemberaubenden alten, könhlichen Ställen...

And with all the planning for our wedding I had no time to make jewerly and browse all your blogs. I missed that and will try to catch with all of you in the weeks to come:-)

Das war es erst einmal - ich poste später gerne noch mehr, wenn Ihr möchtet. Ich möchte mich auch für mein Schweigen in den letzten beiden Monaten entschuldigen. Aber um ehrlich zu sein, war diese Reise unsere Hochzeitsreise. Und mit all den Plannugen für die Hochzeit, blieb keine Zeit fürs Schmuckmachen und Surfen Eurer Blogs. Das hat mir gefehlt, und ich hoffe, ich kann in den kommenden Wochen alls nachholen:-)
