Our latest Tomb Raider play group is starting today. I hope you'll join us as we muddle through Tomb Raider: Underworld. We'll be meeting on this Lara Croft Online Forum thread. There we can easily share our experiences, post links, screenshots, videos, etc., and chat back and forth as we each enjoy Lara's adventure at home.

If you're new to the LCO Forum and have any trouble signing up, let me know and I'll help sort it out. I'm also happy to answer any questions about group play, but please read my intro on the forum first. Your question may already be answered there.

Again, here's the link: http://www.laracroftonline.net/index.php?showtopic=6253. See you there! :D

She also acknowledges some of the rumblings heard among the series' long-time fans.

Now you may notice a subtle shift in the message coming out of the developer's offices recently. I think they've sensed that many of us are concerned about the games' straying too far from the traditional Tomb Raider model we've come to know and love. In this interview, as well as in the more recent Crystal Habit Podcasts, they've been stressing that the new game will still comprise what they're calling the core "pillars" of Tomb Raider: exploration/traversal, puzzle solving and combat, but that all this will take place within the context of a survival story.

Some of the fans who watched the exciting game trailers released this past summer came away with the impression that this was going to be a survival-horror game starring Lara Croft. (I'll admit I was among them.) After all, this will be the first M-rated Tomb Raider, and the action in the gameplay trailer looks damned scary. But lately Crystal has been carefully re-shaping their message to existing fans.

As Global Brand Manager Karl Stewart said in the fourth podcast, this will not be a Condemned, Resident Evil or Silent Hill type game. There will definitely be some scary situations, but the game will be more "survival-adventure" than "survival-horror". Meagan also stresses in the interview above that anyone who plays the new game is "going to feel the Tomb Raider in it."

What do you think? Is the upcoming game grabbing your interest so far? Are you OK with the new direction the series is taking and where would you like to see it go in the future? This will be an amazing career networking opportunity, but traveling from her home in Canada to San Francisco for the 5-day event will be expensive. When she told me about her idea for the auction, I was sorry to hear she'd be letting go of some of her cherished possessions, but I couldn't think of a better way to raise money while doing something fun for the fan community.

Katie's auction runs through January 13, 2012. I encourage all Tomb Raider collectors to check it out. There are some great items up for sale, including Tomb Raider books, Lara Croft action figures, a Sideshow Lara figure, a Tonner doll, a PSP bundle with accessories and games, and lots more.

Please visit Katie's site for details. Along with this video (below), she's posted photos and descriptions for all the items and guidelines for bidding.

Good luck and thanks to everyone who participates!

I apologize for the black screen, but I think it's important that sites like mine help observe American Censorship Day. Today the black screen is just temporary, but if H.R.3261, the "Stop Online Piracy Act" passes, it could become permanent since walkthrough writers, speedrunners, amateur videographers and others could have their sites shut down permanently—and even face prosecution. I urge you all to visit americancensorship.org to find out more.

Perhaps someday Lara's adventures will take her there.

The Bosnian Pyramid,
Visocica Hill, is the first European pyramid to be discovered. It is
located in the heart of Bosnia, in the town of Visoko. The structure
has all the classic elements: four perfectly shaped slopes pointing
toward the cardinal points, a flat top and an entrance complex. At
720 feet high, it stands about one and a half times taller than the
Great Pyramid of Giza. On the top of the pyramid are also the ruins
of a Medieval walled town, once the base of a Bosnian king, Tvrtko of
Kotromanic (1338-1391). Because of its similarities to the Pyramid of
the Sun in Teotihuacan, Mexico, it has been named the "Bosnian
Pyramid of the Sun". There are also four more ancient structures on
the site: the Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon, Bosnian Pyramid of the
Dragon, Bosnian Pyramid of Love and Temple of the Earth.

The Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun

Dr. Semir OsmanagicDr. Semir "Sam" Osmanagic, who has been called the "Bosnian Indiana Jones", was
born in that country and now resides in the United States. He is
credited with the discovery of the Visoko pyramid complex. During his
first trip to the area in 2005, Osmanagic noticed the precise
geometric appearance of the region's hills. To him they seemed
clearly man-made. Subsequent research revealed that the hillsides
were not only symmetrical, they also aligned to the points of the
compass—north, south, east and west; and the Pyramids of the Sun,
Moon and Dragon form a perfect equilateral triangle with 2.170 meters
between their tops

Osmanagic began exploratory digs in
the area and soon confirmed the existence of stone tiles and other
man-made structures across the site, possibly dating back to the Ice
Age. Osmanagic says: "We have already dug out stone blocks which I
believe are covering the pyramid." He established a non-profit
foundation to undertake further excavation of the site. (More at
www.bosnianpyramidofthesun.com.)

Diagram of the pyramid site. Click for larger version.

There is still some controversy as to whether the structures were in fact created by
ancient humans or are naturally occurring geological features called
"flatirons" with man-made structures built into them.

In 2007 Egyptologist Nabil
Mohamed Swelim visited Visoko. His report, publicised by the
Archeological Park, agreed with Osmanagic's finding that the Pyramid
of the Sun was the world's largest pyramid. Swelim concluded,
"Arguments in favour or in disfavour have no effect on the fact
that the pyramid concept and the properties are there for everyone to
see." However, in 2010 he released a report in which he clarified
that he does not claim it is man-made pyramid, but rather that he
uses the term for any feature, natural or artificial, which is a
geometric pyramid, but he does not exclude the possibility it is
man-made.

Additional research will
no doubt reveal more. Meanwhile, regardless of the structures'
origins, many interesting archeological discoveries have been made on
the site.

· · ·

Here are some of the artifacts that were discovered here in the past 3 years:

A stone wheel, the first artifact found in the KTK tunnels (shown on
the map below), has attracted a lot of public attention. The material
that composes this wheel is marl and sandstone and it has diameter of
one meter. Its width is 15-17 cm. It was found in the right-side
tunnel at 17 meters length during the removal of the debris.

Parts of this wheel were also found at a depth of 1.20 - 1.50 meters
within the landslide material. During the removal of the debris,
parts of this wheel were carefully separated from marl and clay,
where they were found. These parts have been pieced together.

This stone block was discovered in the Ravne tunnel complex, a labyrinth of underground passages to the northeast of the Sun Pyramid site,
with two moulds containing traces of oxidized molten metal. The
composition of this stone is not the same as the materials found in
the tunnel.

Artificial glass lump (right) also found during the Ravne tunnel excavation. At 110
meters from the entrance, workers found this forged glass lump. Its
age is still to be determined.

Megalith K-1 (left) was the first megalith found that contains what appears to be an
ancient writings.

An initial interpretation of megalith K-1 suggests it may be a diagram
of the pyramid complex itself, as shown by this map overlay:

Another carved stone mould containing traces of molten oxidized metal. It was found during the excavation works in tunnel Ravne at a distance of 130 meters, just before another tunnel intersection.

The Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun was the location where yet another sandstone
megalith with markings has been found (shown below). At this time the experts are
not trying to interpret the signs but rather let the public come to
it's own conclusions. What we have here is just another piece of
evidence of an ancient civilization. One thing that seems consistent
is the sign resembling the letter "E" which we saw on several
locations in Tunnel Ravne and on Visoko plate.

The removal of the debris from the underground tunnels is ongoing and
with the use of gravel filtration technique in the Ravne location,
another stone artifact was found (below). It looks like a stone shell and
could be possibly man made. Samples were taken which will be sent for
further archaeological analysis.

Two-sided human foot (below), found in the uncovered paved northern part of the plateau
of the Toprakalia hill, in Gornje Vratnice, near Visoko, 3 feet under
the ground.

200 meters from the Ravne tunnel entrance another megalith block was
found underneath 60 cm of debris that was removed while clearing the
tunnel. Its length is approximately 2 meters. New writings were
found, which can be seen on the photographs. This block was
photographed, then covered to protect it at its original location.
Foundation workers expect that by mid-October this part of tunnel
will be available and safe to visit by general public.

Discovered on May 6th this artifact speaks for itself. At this time it has not
yet been dated, but it is obvious that it was part of something
greater. It was moved from it's original location most probably
several times and traces are found hinting that it was worked on for
further incorporation.

Various web sites devoted to the excavation and its findings include many

According to H4RR7H, webmaster of The Music of Tomb Raider blog:

"Multiple British Academy Award and BAFTA winning composer, Jason Graves, most famous for his recent work on Dead Space and its sequel, might have let slip the possibility of a connection to Crystal Dynamics and their new Tomb Raider reboot in an interview at The Sound Cast back in February this year.

"By using all too familiar words like 'survival', 'gritty' and 'realistic', words purported by Crystal's marketing for the game at the time, fans are convinced they're at least a step closer to prematurely homing in on the composer...."

Aspyr Media has just released an updated version of this classic game through the Mac App Store. The game costs $7.99 U.S. and is compatible with Macintosh OS X 10.6.6 or later. The App Store page includes detailed list of system requirements.

Tomb Raider 2 includes 17 extensive levels set in China, Tibet, Venice and a sunken ocean liner, plus the Croft Manor training level. One of the screenshots from the updated version shows the first level of the Golden Mask expansion pack, yet it doesn't appear those levels are included.*

TR2 was originally the first game in the series available for Macintosh. (TR1 Gold came later.) Aspyr has not yet announced any future plans to re-release other titles in the series, but perhaps if this one is well received, more updated classics could follow.

I'm primarily a Windows PC gamer myself, but I encourage any Mac players who try this new version to post your impressions in a comment below. How does it run? Are the graphics much improved? Any other changes from the original?

*UPDATE: The app does not include the Golden Mask levels, but it's possible to play them by downloading the free level pack and doing a simple set of file replacements. For step-by-step instructions, see here. Thanks to Attila for this info.

SECOND UPDATE 11/6: Save files from the original game don't seem to work, but my Mac crew is searching for a solution. If there isn't one, we hope to have new save files available soon. Also, MacRaider has posted info on enabling widescreen and anti-aliasing. See here.

Click for larger version. More screenshots available on the Mac App Store page.

Thanks to Trevor from MacRaider and the Mac Matts (Matt from Matt's Tomb Raider Blog and Matt Hardwick) for keeping me posted on these developments.

Some have long-standing ties with the series. Others are new to drawing Lara, but all have impressive credentials.

All eight entries are reproduced here. I encourage you to vote for your favorite in the poll below and leave a comment if you like.

I especially enjoyed this segment, Part III, titled "Turning Points." Its creator, Strider, has kindly allowed me to publish a print version here. I highly recommend listening to the original audio, as well as the other four parts in the series. It's wonderfully entertaining, informative and well produced.

So I was playing Tomb Raider II. In Venice. Bartoli's Hideout. I think I was about half-way through the level. And I remember entering one of the buildings they've got there, and I remember walking through, and on my right I could hear this repetitive mechanical sound. And I looked around and there was no indication of what was making this sound, but it seemed so familiar. And then I remembered that actually what it was, was a trap that I had previously sort of survived what seemed to be miles back in the level, and it was just the other side of this wall. And suddenly I had to re-orientate myself because it seemed so far away, it didn't seem like it was this close to me. And then I realised that this Tomb Raider level and indeed the Tomb Raider levels were just this complex back and forth sort of spiral I suppose, kind of like a maze or a labyrinth. Often at times you can either see or hear echoes or images of places you have been or have got to get to, and that something so close was actually in reality so far away.

A famous explorer once said that
"The extraordinary is in what we do, not who we are."

Hello there, my name is Strider and this is Digital Wanderlust, a show from InRetroSpect Podcast that seeks to shift our understanding of the gaming landscape through psychogeography. This is the third episode of our InRaiderSpect special in which I will be examining an aspect of the Tomb Raider series that I feel warrants more of a detailed exploration.

I like many was blown away by the E3 trailer for Tomb Raider, the next chapter in the series, to be released in 2012. What particularly interested me though was the trailer's title: Turning Point. Now this suggests many things for me that go beyond that of the aforementioned game. For a turning point is defined as:

A time at which a decisive change in a situation occurs. Especially one with beneficial results.

It asks one question: to carry on or turn back?

For a young Lara in the trailer, her turning point is what sets her on her path to self-discovery, yet a turning point does not necessarily have to be something so epic.

In this show I want to illustrate how this simple question takes on many forms in the Tomb Raider series, and indeed life itself. For I wish to argue that turning back is not a bad thing, and indeed is paramount to Tomb Raider's continued success.

The "famous explorer" Lara mentions at the beginning of the trailer was Sir Edmund Hillary, who along with Sherpa Tenzing Norgay were the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest in the Himalayas, in 1953. For Tomb Raider fans will know that in the original series it was a plane crash in the Himalayas that was Lara's original 'turning point', which is now being rewritten for this next chapter in the series as a shipwreck. Hillary's expedition relates well to this notion of a turning point. Because for those who are familiar with mountain climbing of extreme altitudes, there is a need to repeatedly turn round and retrace your steps, in order to press on. This is so that the body itself can continually acclimatise to the changes in air pressure. This means that in effect you are walking a much longer distance than it would appear. It's two steps forward and one step back, but by doing this you stay alive.

I'd finally set out to make my mark, to find adventure.
But instead, adventure found me.

In the Tomb Raider series, we often have to turn back to go on. This may be as complicated as retracing our steps significantly to flick a switch, or it may be as simple as creating enough space to take a run up to jump farther. In the original games of course (all the way up to Angel of Darkness) there was a handy feature to aid this, in which a press of a button would allow Lara to roll and turn 180 degrees. This allowed for some speedy changes of direction when under a time limit, allowing you to make your mark quickly.

Turning point can also refer to the climax of a narrative in which events come to a head. The word 'climax' comes from ancient Greek for staircase or ladder—a physical manifestation of an upward change in direction of a story. At this moment everything is unveiled, the hero faces the villain or has an epiphany. This is where they make their 'mark'. In a Tomb Raider level each rung on a ladder takes you closer and closer to the climax—which may only be the opening of a door—which some may view as an anti-climax. As for the games as a whole it is often a final confrontation with a boss. In the first episode of InRaiderSpect we discussed the moment towards the end of Tomb Raider Anniversary when Lara kills a man in cold blood. This is an example of such a turning point and having done this, she can never go back. Yet I have never really cared for such turning points, as for me Tomb Raider isn't about boss battles or explosions. I don't really have an impetus to find out about Ms. Croft—perhaps with the exception of this latest trailer. The turning points I care about are in the levels themselves—in their very construction.

In our darkest moments…

Imagine a piece of string or thread. The start is where you begin the level, the end is where you finish it. If this was an actual path, it would be pretty simple, and if it was a narrative it would be pretty monotonous. To make a good story we'd have to put a few twists in it—some turning points, a few highs and lows, all building to a climax—making sure that it isn't too knotted. The shape we would be left with would be similar to a map of a good Tomb Raider level, in which highs and lows become platforms and pools, twists in a story would become actual physical twists and a climax would be the opening of a door or passage to the next level. I have never really needed a story to be imposed when playing these games, as the levels themselves tell me all I need to know.

There is an already existing architectural model that relates to such a design—that of the labyrinth. Now for the uninitiated there is a difference between a maze and a labyrinth. A maze has multiple ways in which to reach the centre, a labyrinth only one. According to an article from Skyler Miller at Gamespot, the first puzzle video game was that of Amazing Maze in 1976. As Miller says:

While this early arcade game from Midway looks like it has more in common with Pac-Man than it does with Tetris, it is notable because it is based on one of the oldest traditional puzzles: the maze. Without any enemies or weapons, your goal is to reach each maze's exit before your human or computer opponent does. That's it. There aren't any ghosts, aliens, or spaceships to stand in your way. It's just your brain against the maze.

One of the clever qualities of Tomb Raider lies in the fact that each level is a labyrinth masquerading as a maze. At times you think there is more than one way of reaching the end, yet in reality there is only one. Partly such a mechanic allows the game developers to cheat a bit as it is giving the player the illusion of going beyond the limitations of what the console or PC can allow. In the original Tomb Raider games at the end of each level it would notify you as to how many kilometres you had travelled, however this would mostly take place in a much smaller area of space in which you backtrack back and forth and up and down within a compressed area. Just look at the maps of the original game levels and you will see how tightly bound the gaming route is.

In later games they had the technology to make the gaming a lot more linear reducing the need for backtracking, and in the next instalment it has been stated that this will be reduced even more. This in my opinion although removing the sense of repetition, made the completion of such titles less rewarding. Remember Edmund Hillary and his backtracking up Everest. We need to toil away, to hit dead ends, so that we can turn around changed when we find the right path that takes us onwards.

…when life flashes before us…

In Greek mythology, the Labyrinth was an elaborate structure designed and built by the legendary artificer Daedalus for King Minos of Crete at Knossos. Its function was to hold the Minotaur, a mythical creature that was half man and half bull and was eventually killed by the Athenian hero Theseus. Daedalus had made the Labyrinth so cunningly that he himself could barely escape it after he built it. Theseus was aided by Ariadne, who provided him with a skein of thread to follow. The clumps of thread Theseus reached for were clews of thread—and this is where we get the term 'clue' or clues in mystery solving. In Tomb Raider, there is not a magical thread for Lara to follow, unless it is that of a walkthrough. Instead it is about navigating the labyrinth with brains and brawn. This is what keeps us going, the desire to unravel a mystery, whether it be knowing what is around the next corner or solving a puzzle.

…we find something,…

In his book The Puzzle Instinct, Marcel Danesi states that:

Throughout the ancient world, puzzles were associated with portentous challenges and events. This association was given physical expression in the form of buildings known as labyrinths, which were, in effect, architectural intelligence tests. Finding one's way through their intricate, intertwining passages was considered not only a test of astuteness, but also a way of metaphorically finding the path to enlightenment and true knowledge.

The Greeks had labyrinths, so did the Romans, the Egyptians, the English and many other civilizations. It is not just a novel means of physically getting from A to B, but has strong psychological and indeed spiritual implications. It presents a desire to know something hidden, but feel worthy enough to find it. In some medieval churches labyrinths on the church floors were viewed by some such as walking historian Rebecca Solnit, as compressed pilgrimages in which one feels the weight of a long journey in a small space. It may be an illusion, but the labyrinth is the model that all explorers wish to follow—and in Tomb Raider this is no exception.

Yet the labyrinthine levels of Tomb Raider are not like the mazes at Hampton Court or indeed Croft Manor. They combine puzzles with perils, allowing for the labyrinth to constantly shift as you play. This is an intellectual and indeed physical test, explored in three dimensions, a rite of passage that takes you further than the previous explorers before you. For to solve a labyrinth is to find order within chaos, and we human beings find this pleasant as it creates harmony. This is why most of the Tomb Raider games involve the joining together of scattered artifacts from across the globe: The Scion of Atlantis, the four Meteorite stones, the pieces of Horus' armour, the five paintings, the sword fragments, Thor's gauntlet and hammer. It is not just about finding the correct route, it is also about procuring items on the way to take with you and prove that you did it. To take them onwards, to complete their journey as well as your own.

…something that keeps us going…

This desire to bring separated items together, also reverberates within the levels themselves through the use of puzzles. All the variety of puzzle types exist in Tomb Raider. The mechanical, the lateral, the mathematical, the dextrous. Dead ends become doorways, doorways become dead ends. It is not about plotting your route through an existing labyrinth but constantly recalibrating your mental mapping of a changing one. Each switch, lever and valve is a turning point, one which alters our path.

…something that pushes us.

For if we step back and look at the series as a whole, it is possible to see how the pervading question—to carry on or turn back?—has been answered by the developers. Sometimes there was a lot of backtracking into previous games for ideas that have been maintained in subsequent games. Tomb Raider II backtracked completely into the original, Tomb Raider III branched out into more vehicles and weapons giving you the opportunity to dictate the order of events, Tomb Raider IV took us back to Egypt and gave Lara a back story, Tomb Raider Chronicles was a eulogy—in which turning points of Lara's life are commemorated, Angel of Darkness tried to be more stealthy yet continued with Lara's own personal history, Tomb Raider Legend went back to the originals and made them arcadey with a new backstory, Anniversary backtracked completely but became more personal and Underworld went too far ahead. Where will the next Tomb Raider sit? Will it go back to the originals or will it find a new route through the labyrinth of video game creation?

For you see, the next Tomb Raider game is a turning point, but it is not the turning point. As I've illustrated here, a turning point is not just a new game, on a different console. It is merely the raising of one question: to turn back or carry on? To race to the top and run out of breath or take a step back and catch it?, to make a jump or to take a run up?, to enter the doorway or flick the switch first?, to run into the labyrinth or wait and look for clues?.

Sometimes we haven't got time to think, because the Minotaur is gaining on us. Sometimes there isn't a choice. Yet some moments in life—big and small—that appear to only have one course of action, are turning points. The Tomb Raider series teaches us one important lesson that sometimes to continue we have to turn back and that sometimes the shortest distance requires the longest walk. For you see that if in the next game, Lara had not been shipwrecked, she would have missed out on all the pain of dislocating her arm, of being without food and drink. But she would also have missed out on discovering her very self—her own personal labyrinth. For we all know what is waiting for her at the centre.

When all seemed lost, I found a truth…

Her destiny. To be an explorer, an archaeologist, a solver of ancient mysteries.

…and I knew what I must become.

A Tomb Raider.

· · ·

Well that concludes this very special episode of Digital Wanderlust. Now we find ourselves at another turning point, for if you haven't heard the previous shows in this series, I suggest you back track and listen to them. If you have though, carry on to next week where you can hear another episode that looks at the Tomb Raider series differently. As a label, we're always happy to hear people's views on the shows and there are several ways in which you can do this. The developers treated a group of fans to a tour of the studio, a Q&A with Community Manager Meagan Marie and Global Brand Manager Karl Stewart, a presentation and some hands-on demo time, plus dinner out. Sounds like a great time.

For details on Jaden's experience with the demo, which features Lara's excursion into the wolves' den, plus the developer Q&A session and photos from the event, please visit Guns and Grapple. Be sure to check out all three separate articles:

Here guest blogger Trevor, webmaster of MacRaider, gives us an overview of the series on Mac so far, announces an updated TR2 soon to be released for Mac OS 10, and links to resources for running the classic games on newer systems.

Tomb Raider on the Macintosh? I guess I have to remind myself that there are people that don't know the game exists on the platform, living in the Macintosh world as I do.

In fact Tomb Raider has existed on the Mac for almost as long as it has been on the PC. I say 'almost' because the first TR to be ported to the Mac was TR 2. TR 1 came later.

Tomb Raider Trilogy
for MacintoshTomb Raider games have spanned several incarnations of the Mac operating System. TR1 through to The Last Revelation are all playable in OS9. Chronicles and Angel of Darkness are optimised for OS 10. Anniversary is the first TR not to run on Power PC Macs and as such can only be played on Macs with Intel chips.

As stated by Matt in his post, Tomb Raider for Macintosh (Part 1), the only games that aren't available on the Mac are Legend, Underworld and I would include Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.

Actually some of the classic Tomb Raiders can be played on a Mac running anything form OS 7.5 (TR1) to OS 10 (Chronicles). As the early TRs wont run (easily) on Intel Macs, I have found the best way to keep playing these games is to keep an old Mac lying around. Fortunately I have a few ;-) one of which I still use to produce MacRaider.

The other alternative for playing Tomb Raider on a Mac is to run Windows and play the PC versions, as Macs have the ability to run both the Mac OS and Windows on the same system. Of course you would miss out on the Mac exclusives like bug fixes, Easter eggs and a generally better Angel of Darkness, but it is an alternative.

There is software emerging that might allow us to play the classic Tomb Raider games on Intel Macs, but at present the results are variable and as such aren't really worth mentioning at this stage IMHO. Aspyr Media has also recently announced plans to re-release Tomb Raider 2 for OS 10.7 (Lion). (Read more at InsideMacGames.com.) When asked about the possibility of the other classic Tomb Raider games receiving the same treatment, an Aspyr spokesperson responded, "We are assessing the re-release of multiple titles from our catalogue to be released in the same manner." Slightly cryptic but encouraging. ;-) Keep checking MacRaider for any new developments.

If you would like to see a more detailed analysis on which Tomb Raider games will run on which Macs head over to MacRaider and check out the Old Tomb Raiders on Newer Macs page.

–Trevor

UPDATE: The updated version of Tomb Raider 2, for Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later, is now available in the Mac App Store.

The original challenge question for today was an accidental repeat of Day 9. We'd love to hear what you think.

I'm sure we all have our pet peeves—whether it's something about the gameplay itself, the way Lara has been portrayed, or even just having to wait 4 years for the next game. What, if anything, bugs you about Tomb Raider and why?

· · ·

The thing that most annoys me is the difference between this:

. . . and this:

I have no problem with the idea of Lara as a sexy, sexual woman, but the character portrayed in the games is clearly not pin-up material. She doesn’t have time time for that crap. She's got places to go and things to kill.

Anyone who bought the games because they thought they'd be seeing a half-naked woman traipsing through the tombs was undoubtedly disappointed. And most of us who bought the games for what they actually were, find this type of marketing completely cringeworthy. I get tired of having to explain to non-gamers that Tomb Raider really isn't "like that".

What are your most memorable Tomb Raider moment? Is it something that happened in one of the games or a real-life experience you've had as a result of being a fan?

Today's challenge question is very similar to one I used in last year's Book Bonanza Contest Part 1. If you entered that contest, I hope you'll answer again here.

I know I have. Which game sequence did you find the hardest?

Today's question was suggested by Buffalo Mein, a reader and fellow raider who has commented on most of the challenges so far. The original question for day 22 was about Tomb Raider music, but I decided to combine it with the challenge for day 13.
