She and her husband Steve Robinson founded Good Kids in Bad Places, in association with Operation Progress and the LAPD, funding private school education grades K-12 for kids in South Central Los Angeles. Additionally, Crown was founder and chairman of the United States Triathlon Team Maccabiah Games in Israel.  Although she resides in Los Angeles, she remains an active member of the U. S. Committee for UNICEF in Chicago.  As if she doesn’t have enough love to give, Janet is also an active member of the Board of Trustees at her alma mater, Denison University.

How “Where Do the Animals Go When It Rains?” came about:

Picking an animal together, they would tuck into bed and create a story where the animals lived and what their world was like – all through a child’s eye.  Since most animals live outside, Janet and her kids would make up rhymes about their surroundings and what happens to the animals when it would rain.  The end result is her beautifully crafted book with illustrations by Daron Rosenberg.    

This book  is really adorable.  I think you and your little readers will really enjoy it!

Hello Everyone!  I hope your week is going well so far.  It’s half-way over! 

Today, I am happy today to be re-reviewing “Allergy-Free and Easy Cooking: 30-minute meals without gluten, wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, and sesame” by Cybele Pascal.  I first reviewed this book back in December.  You can check out my  original review HERE.

When I am asked to re-review a cookbook, I think it’s really nice to be able to make one of the recipes from the book.  So for this review, I decided to make Buffalo Wings with Ranch Dressing.

I have never fried chicken wings, only baked them because I’m totally afraid of hot oil on the stove!  I enlisted my hubby to help me with this part.  It really wasn’t bad.  I would suggest a splatter screen (which I don’t have) to keep the mess down a little.

I tossed the wings in the sauce.

I served the wings with celery sticks and because we are not dairy free, blue cheese dressing.  If you are dairy free, there is a great recipe for dairy free ranch dressing!

These wings turned out great!  I probably will even try them again, now that we have the frying part down!

I followed the recipe on the bag of Pamela’s, with one exception.  I used one stick of butter and one half cup of unsweetened applesauce instead of two sticks of butter.  I like to do that when I bake to cut down the fat and add some fruit!  I also left out the optional nuts.

I mixed everything together…

I used my tablespoon scooper to drop the dough onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper…

Here they are, fresh out of the oven!

I may have even had one (or two) with my green smoothie.  (Shhhhhh!)

These cookies came out perfect.  They are crunchy on the outside, all soft and chocolatey on the inside.

I received two flavors, Apple Cinnamon and Strawberry.  I was pleasantly surprised with both flavors!

The crust is a little bit heavier than I remember the “regular” pastries to be, but still very good.  I decided that I liked them better when I heated them a little bit in the microwave.  Both the Apple Cinnamon and Strawberry fillings were very good.  I felt like I was eating a single serving piece of pie!

I loved these pastries with a cup of coffee as a mid-morning snack.  I was thinking that they would be great as a dessert, maybe heated up and topped with some ice cream or whipped cream!

I am so happy to be reviewing Chrissy Gower’s cookbook, “Paleo Slow Cooking: Gluten-Free Recipes Made Simple” again!

I first reviewed this wonderful cookbook in October of 2012.  You can check out my review HERE.

The Paleo diet is very hot right now.  You may be hearing a lot about it.  Many people are turning to Paleo because it cuts out processed, unhealthy foods and replaces those foods with healthy, whole foods such as meat, eggs, vegetables, nuts and natural sweeteners.  There are also no grains allowed, so Paleo is perfect for those who need to eat gluten-free.

As you know, slow cooking is a great way to get a hot meal on the table easily.  Slow cooking meats makes them fall apart and so juicy, which makes it a perfect method for Paleo cooking!

I decided to make one of the recipes in the book, Pesto Chicken.  There are only FIVE ingredients and the recipe was super easy!

I loaded everything into my slow cooker.  Fresh, homemade pesto smells AMAZING!

I served the Pesto Chicken with green beans and sweet potatoes.

My family loved this dinner.

I decided this time to make oatmeal peanut butter cookies.  I followed the instructions on the back of the package,  adding an egg and butter, but instead of using 1/2 cup of butter, I cut back to 5 Tablespoons and added 1/2 cup of chunky peanut butter.

Yes, I should have creamed the butter and peanut butter together, but I didn’t.  It was a little harder to mix, but came out fine in the end!

Using parchment paper definitely makes clean-up so easy!

Everyone loved the taste of these cookies!
