I made this adorable Angry Birds cake for a friend of mine.

The cake is chocolate covered in buttercream and then fondant.

The cupcakes are yellow cake covered in chocolate buttercream with fondant toppers.

Here is a cake I did for my brother who is a big Ranger fan. I decided to do a jersey. I asked my sis-in-law what his favorite jersey color was, and made my jersey that color. This is made to look like the back of the jersey. I used the number 37 because that is how old he was. Truth be told his favorite player of all times for the Rangers is Nolan Ryan so we could have used 34 as well.

The cake is a strawberry cake with buttercream icing. I then covered it in red marshmallow fondant. I piped on the name and number using buttercream as well. It was a big hit.

Giraffe Fun For Little One

Back in March, I made some cakes for a special little girl, my niece. She turned 1. So, of course we had to have a smash cake. Mom says she's all crazy about giraffes. So, that's where I started from.

This little cutie became the topper for the smash cake. I made him using the tutorial from here. It is in a different language. You can translate it to English. But you really don't need to the images are self explanatory. The only thing I did differently, was his little knobbys. I rolled some fondant onto some shortened toothpicks because I wanted them to stand up more than in the tutorial.

I also made a bigger cake for the big kids. The pattern was made with fondant, and the rest is buttercream.

Supernatural Birthday

My brother asked me ever so sweetly if I would make a Supernatural cake for my sister-in-law's 30th birthday that had Sam and Dean on it. Of all the things that she likes, he had to pick Supernatural. I told him I could probably make the Impala, but that Sam and Dean would be hard. He said the Impala sounds great, but can you still do Sam and Dean. So, of course I did.

Don't laugh; they don't look anything like the Winchesters. These were my first gumpaste figures. The sitting one is done with toothpicks, and is supposed to be Sam. The standing one is made out of a wire frame, and is supposed to be Dean. If I do this again, I will definitely make a wire framed figure.

Monster High

I recently had a birthday party for my beautiful 7 year old.

She wanted a Monster High theme. So, off to create I went.

I was going to make a fondant overlay of Draculaura, but that didn't turn out quite so well. My fondant was old, and when I tried to put in color and roll it out all the fondant did was get crumbly.

So, I ended up just doing skullette on the cake. The cake was all buttercream. I smoothed out my icing, and then sprayed it pink with my air brush. After that, I traced skullete on the top. I smoothed out skullette using a viva papertowel.

Baby Shower Cake

Recently I made a cute little cake for a baby shower. It was my first time using my new airbrush that I received for Christmas.

Would any of you like a tutorial on how I did the clouds? It's really simple. The next time I do a cake, I will take step by step shots.

I also made these cute cupcakes with onesie toppers.

The onesies, socks and butterflies are fondant.

A Modern Birthday

I recently did a Call of Duty MW3 cake for my nephew.

I used the cover of the video game case as my staring point. I rolled out dark gray fondant, and cut out a silhouette of the army guy. Then, I rolled out white and green fondant and cut out the letters. I used the Snow White Buttercream recipe from one of the Wilton Cake Decorating Yearbooks.

I didn't do a crumb coat, but for normal customers I definitely would. The flavor of the cake is Orange Creamsicle. If you would like to have the recipe please let me know.

Can You Feel The Love Tonight?

Hello There!

I worked on a cake last week for my sweet niece Rayann. Mommy said that she requested Simba and Nala. So, I found out whether or not it was baby Simba and Nala or adult Simba and Nala and went to town. The first thing I did was print out a picture of Simba and Nala. I then laid a piece of wax paper over the top and traced the image with a permanent marker. I put the original print out under another piece of wax paper. I then just took my traced image and placed it over rolled fondant, and cut out each section. I took the sections and placed them on top of my printed image so that I knew I had the placement right. I started with the small things like the eyes and ears. Then, I place the body over those in sections. I place the complete fondant image in the fridge to harden.

I had my cake in the freezer. So, I got that out and did a crumb coat and a regular coat. After it had the icing on, I placed the image directly from the fridge onto my cake. I then drew in the details with a food color/vanilla mixture.

It's a Bieber Fest

This past week, I made another Bieber cake for the same girl I did last year's cake for. I jokingly told her mom that next year's cake had to be something different because I was running out of ideas for Bieber.

I used the Frozen Butter Cream Transfer technique for the first time. It turned out ok, but I definitely need some practice on it.

What you need for the FBCT is wax paper or freezer paper, a print out of what you want your transfer to look like and of course butter cream icing.

I printed out a Justin Bieber coloring sheet off the internet...yes there are coloring sheets of the boy. I really don't want to know what other things your can get Bieberized.

I taped the sheet under my freezer paper, and I outlined the picture with black butter cream. After this I covered the whole image in pink butter cream because my fondant was going to be pink per the birthday girl's request. I could have also colored each part of the picture a different color, like brown for hair and peach for skin.

Then, place another piece of freezer paper on top of your image and pop it in the freezer.

I made my cake and then brought out the transfer. Definitely do this right when you need it because if you bring it out too soon the transfer will start to become soft and you might not be able to transfer it to your cake successfully. I learned this because I had made cute flower and heart shapes, but when I got around to trying to put them on the cake they melted and didn't hold their shape well. Lesson learned for next time.

Here a Chick, There a Chick!

I found inspiration for some cute little cupcakes on Pinterest from the site Bird On A Cake. Aren't her cupcakes just so cute?

I did mine just a little different. When you're trying to get a whole bunch done and you have lots of help from little hands, you tend to take shortcuts.

You will need a cake mix, yellow sugar, something to use for the beaks (I used sprinkles that were shaped like Tigger), chocolate chips, (icing and food color not shown). My picture shows white cake mix, but I actually used yellow for my cupcakes. Use whatever mix you like, or if you're ambicious make cupcakes from scratch.

I made mini cupcakes because I figured the kids from daycare really didn't need that much sugar.

I took my canned icing, and colored it yellow. Then, I dipped each cupcake in the icing. After that, each cupcake was dipped in the yellow sugar.

Bird On a Cake used orange icing for her beaks, but to save time I just used something I had on hand. Also, this made is easier for little hands to help. We had an assembly line going, and the cupcakes were finished fairly quickly.

Quilt Boards or Kids Travel Felt Boards

I got my idea from A Bee in My Bonnet when I saw her mini design boards HERE. I pinned them for something to do for my mom for Christmas.

After looking at them for a little bit, they reminded me of the felt boards in my Sunday school classes when I was a kid so I ran with it, and made my own thing. For my kids and my niece, I made travel felt boards which included mini shapes to use for counting or being creative and coming up with their own shapes. To make the boards pull double duty, I spray painted the back with chalk board paint so they could have a travel chalk board as well. I did end up making some boards for my mother and sister-in-law to use as quilt boards that did not include the felt pieces. They did get a chalk board, though. Because everyone needs chalk boards. Big Birthday Bash

Little Man's Birthday was last weekend, and we had a wonderful party with friends and family. I decided to go with the theme of dump trucks. I think everyone had a great time, and it is definitely a birthday that he will not forget. We had pin little man in the dump truck instead of pin the tail on the donkey. Daddy drew the truck, and I printed out pictures of the little man.

We then had a pinata which was great fun.

After the games, came the cake. I am rather proud of my cake. I used store bought cake mixes, and shaped them into a dump truck. I then covered them with fondant, and made the sides of the truck with candy melts. The dirt was smushed oreos. The tires were rice krispy pucks covered in fondant. I think little man enjoyed it.

After cake was presents, but there weren't any pictures that didn't have other children in them. So, I didn't want to post those without permission from parents. Overall, I think it was a great party.

It's in the bag

I bought some tote bags on sale after Halloween last year to decorate and use as candy bags for the kids. I finally got around to decorating them with only a couple of weeks to spare. Nothing like the last minute. I used my silhouette to cut a template on freezer paper. You can purchase images from the silhouette store, or you can do what I did and just find images off of the internet. Sorry no images for this part. I then ironed it on to the bag.

After I got it ironed on the bag, I took some black acrylic paint and a sponge brush and dobbed paint onto the template. Don't paint on big strokes because that could pull up part of the template causing you to get paint where you really didn't want it to go.

And here is the finished product all ready to be filled and candy and goodies galore.

One Little Indian Girl

This week is Homecoming here in our small town. So, the school is having themes each day. Today was Cowboy and Indian Day. So, I dressed my daughter as an Indian and sent her to school. If you wait to the last minute to come up with something don't sweat it. A costume can sometimes be pulled off in a matter of minutes. I had an XL brown shirt that I was planning on using to make an altered shirt. I just didn't know what I was going to do to with it.

We had a Pochahontas outfit that I had made her last year that still fit, but I didn't think the school would like it too much if I sent A in it because it is just a one shoulder dress. So, I had to come up with something else. I took the brown shirt and put it on her to see how much I needed to take it in. I turned it wrong side out to sew it. This was a mistake because I was going to make fringe out of the left over fabric on the outer edges. When I turned it back the right way, all my fringe fabric was on the inside. So rather than use the seem ripper and take out what I just sewed, I just cut the tag off the back. I cut off the bottom of the t-shirt and the original sleeves so unless you really get to looking you never would know that it's on wrong. Also, the handband is part of the original sleeve. I just cut part of it off, and it's already sewed in a loop so you don't have to sew it of tie it in any way.

Hope this gives you a quick idea for a costume. It would be perfect for Halloween since it's just around the corner.

Western Themed Wedding Cake

I made some cakes for a very casual western themed wedding. So, I just thought I would share my creations. On both cakes I made the fondant and buttercream icing from scratch. The cake is from a mix.

This first cake is a small layer that I made for them to have for their anniversary cake. The roses are the first ones I have made with fondant, and this was my first wedding cake as well.

The second cake was a two layer cake with roses and a rope W as a topper.

I am so glad that the bride and groom liked their cakes, and I hope they have many years of happiness together.

New Name Shirt

4th of July Fun

For 4th of July, I usually like to get us all patriotic shirts to wear. This year I decided to design my own.

I got a tulip tie dye kit, and made red, white and blue tie dyed shirts for all of us.

I found my kit at Wal-Mart, but I am sure you could probably find it at craft stores as well.

Just follow the directions in the kit, and your shirts will turn out great. There are several other pattern options in the direction sheet besides the two I choice to try.

I also baked a flag cake. I got the idea from I Am Baker.
