I liked “What I’m Reading” posts when I did them, so I thought I’d return to it. I thought about starting with a romance novel since I read and write romances, however I’m not currently reading a romance novel but a non-fiction. I picked it up at a few weeks back at the recommend of a friend.

Write Your Book: Aspire to Inspire by Robert Chazz Chute isn’t a typical how to write book or this is what you need to publish. It’s practical and sometimes humorous suggestions and motivation on book writing, publishing, and working the web.

This is not your Grampy’s book on writing and publishing. Mimes are strangled and the meek are punished. Publishing has changed. We have to change with it. You’ll find many suggestions and action plans here, but you’ll find jokes and motivation, too. Going indie is a fun adventure whether it’s your first novel or your next book.Write Your Book: Aspire to Inspire delves deeper into what it takes to help your readers find your books:

• Why one-click marketing doesn’t work for authors anymore. Seduction is required.
• Reach beyond your comfort zone so strangers buy your books.
• Discover free tech tools to help you edit faster.
• Use Jedi mind tricks to get it all done, connect with readers and make them fans.
• Employ promotion tools that other authors aren’t even using (but you can!)

• A new strategy to cross-promote that you won’t find anywhere else.
• Why ebooks could take you into traditional publishing (and why you shouldn’t wait for agents and editors to say yes).
• TOP 10s for writers becoming authors.
• How to start a podcast and create book covers that sell (and who will help you inexpensively).

• Feel the joys of being an indie author.
• You could even get another free ebook for reading this one! Details inside! Is that a good deal or what?

You can do it. Here’s how.

I wasn’t sure I was going to like Robert’s book. Yet I found myself enjoying his writing style and his advice. Now not everything would work for me and my schedule, but I found there were somethings he mentioned that I should be doing and don’t. Shame on me.

There was some kick-in-the-butt suggestions that I can do better at and I’m working on implementing. There were other things that I skimmed through because I’m just not ready to go down that path and I might never be. I would suggest this book to any writer who needs on motivation and ideas on what they can do in their own careers.

I’ve been in a bit of a writer funk since the 9th when I came to the end of Keeping Mhairi and realized it didn’t feel complete. I thought I’d start the outlining of Death’s Lover and get it ready to write next month while I let Keeping Mhairi simmer a bit. But I just didn’t feel like writing and with the change in hubby’s work schedule this month my entire routine has been thrown for a loop and has yet to recover.

So I decided it was time to clean my much neglect house and move my workspace to another part of the house. The corner of the living room just didn’t make it a productive place to accomplish anything. So I’m trying the out of sight out of mind trick and hope it works.

My 3X6 workspace has moved into a 3X7 workspace with a view. Yay! Window to the right of me. Now I can daydream while staring out the window instead of a blank wall.

After three haphazard days of trying to get my home office back into a semblance of order, throw away outdated papers, file things in their place, and basically attempt some type of organization. It’s finally down to the last two piles. I’m hoping to cut them in half and have a nice office/bedroom.

I’ll see if I can post a picture or two when I finish. But I’m interested, where do you writer’s have your workspaces?

Have you ever read a story where the plot is going so well, but when you get to the end it seems to end too soon? Or for you writers, have you ever written a story where you get to the end and your not sure what it is but the story seems incomplete?

I’m having that problem right now. I know I told William and Mhairi’s story and that it came to its natural conclusion. Yet, I’m not happy about it. I have this nagging feeling that there is more to the story. Something I’m not seeing. Something that is missing. Something that could be important and enhance Keeping Mhairi.

Maybe I’m going about it all wrong. Maybe it’s time to step away from the story and pray that the answer comes to me. Or maybe I should work through the plot lines and see if there is any place that could be expanded upon to tell a better story.

I think writing fantasy was easier than romance

I’ve loved Greek and Roman Mythology since I was first introduced to it in school. I was fascinated by the human qualities of gods and goddess. I loved the stories.

I learned long before I wrote the Children of Khaos Series that Greek and Roman myths were told and retold long before they were written down in 800 BCE. That’s a very long time to be sharing stories with no written record.

Many of the basic themes are repeated, but details, names, and story lines vary noticeably from teller to teller, ethnographic region to ethnographic region, and century to century as the gods and goddesses evolved with the culture and the people. As they were combined with the deities of the region.

For instance, Aphrodite started out as a simple garden goddess, who was later combined with Astarte. When Medusa was introduced to to the people, she was renamed Athena and given a different mythology, then later Athena and Medusa were split. Medusa became a monster and was later returned to Athena in the guise of a breastplate. Zeus was a lower god who was given Cronus’ place and became King of the Gods. Hephaestus was first married to one of the muses and later to Aphrodite. At one time Persephone and Kora were separate goddesses, then they were combined and Hades took Persephone’s place as ruler of the Underworld, then she was returned to the Underworld as Hades’ consort.

Because I didn’t want to write a predictable story, or entertaining retelling, I took advantage of these variations to deviate from the recognizable myth we all learned as children and create a series that gives readers a sense of familiarity as they read, yet a sense of surprise when something changes.

I twisted mythology to fit the world I created.

I need a little break from the creative side of work today. The rough draft of Keeping Mhairi is finished and while I really need to rewrite a few scenes and create 4 more. I just can muster the motivation to do it. My brain is tired and fried. I now know how it feels to be an egg frying on the sidewalk. Not!

I haven’t been idle today, though that might have been a smart idea. I’ve devoted most the day to hanging out with my youngest and more left brained work. Nicely enough I’ve compiled to non-fiction books out of my work today. They still need some polishing up, but I’m hoping o have at least one out soon.

I’m still playing around with titles and if anyone has some suggestions I’d love to hear them. Also if anyone wants to beta read them please use the yellow tab at the top to contact me. I’ll add anyone to the credits and make sure that you get a final copy of the book for free download. The first is Organizational tips for Writers and the second is Author Business Planning.
