Swim Class

Ryan is getting an early start on his Olympic training (watch out Michael Phelps). We had our first swim class last week and he did great. He seemed a little leery throughout the class, but he didn't cry once so we're counting that as a success!

Happy Father's Day

I just wanted to wish a Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. It also happens to be my first Father's Day as a dad. Since I'm usually the one taking the pictures, I figured today would be a good day to have my picture taken. Here's a great shot of me and Ryan that Carolyn took today. I love it!

And here's one I took of my grandfather holding Ryan. I love the way he's looking at his great-grandson.

Fun With Spoons

Ryan had his first experience with semi-solid food the other day. We had a lot of fun and I think he really enjoyed the 3% of the rice cereal that actually made it into his mouth.

Ryan couldn't decide whether to eat or smile for the camera. So he did both at the same time.

Yes, it IS hard to keep food in your mouth when you smile all the time...

The soon-to-be-patented rice/milk goatee...

It threatened to rain all day for Cindy and Tad's wedding at Woodlawn Manor in Sandy Spring, MD. I've shot there once before and it poured all day then too! I must be bad luck, and it's too bad because Woodlawn Manor is a beautiful place to get married. How cool is this green barn door?

I promise that I've been photographing more than just my son. I haven't been updating this blog with my work as much, but I will be better about posting updates. Just a reminder that my wedding images can be seen on the Love Life Images blog and go up more quickly. So many blogs, so little time!

A local radio station is running a Baby Idol contest to find the cutest baby in the DC area, so of course we had to enter Ryan. It is our completely unbiased opinion that he should win hands down, but we need your help. The 50 babies with the most votes by this Friday advance to the next round. Reunion

Last night we went to a reunion of our baby class. It was fun seeing everyone and, of course, all the little babies. Ryan happens to be the youngest from our class, so we got a taste of what the next few weeks hold.

Here are a few from earlier yesterday. He gets cuter every day, and now he is starting to smile.

Yesterday I did a shoot for the newly-opened Lilly MaRitza Salon and Gallery in Ellicott City. Lilly and her husband Mike have created a special place, integrating art into every aspect of the salon experience. It is furnished with truly amazing pieces of art from Mike's MotoArt group, which recycles used airplane parts into fashionable furniture and sculptures. In addition, they've partnered with local artists to display and sell art pieces in the salon. Housed in a 'green building,' the Lilly MaRitza salon also reflects their commitment to the environment, by using recycled and high quality natural materials wherever possible.

Here is the reception area. The desk is fashioned from the wing of a C-119 and the mirror from a turbine!

The salon chairs on the left were designed by FA Porsche, of Porsche car fame.

Here is the Guys Room, complete with plasma TVs... they thought of everything.

The office, complete with C-119 (I think) wing desk and navigator chair. I love the vibrant colors they used throughout the salon.

I really loved this reception desk! The plane that provided the desk actually flew in wars. I couldn't get over how cool everything looked and what a great idea it is to reuse old parts rather than have them sit in a junkyard somewhere.

The Little Man

Well so much for more frequent blogging... it's amazing how much time a little person can occupy. He's changing so much every day and it's hard to keep up sometimes. We took him to the doctor the other day and he weighed in at 8lbs. 14oz. (this after leaving the hospital at 6lbs. five weeks ago). So he's a healthy eater, just like his dad.

We have found time for a few photo shoots recently.

So this post is a little overdue... better late than never. My nephew Michael celebrated his 3rd birthday a few weekends ago, and of course we celebrated with cake!

I called my nephew Michael today to wish him a happy 3rd birthday. He answered the phone himself, and his first words to me were, "Hi. It's my birthday."

"I know. Happy birthday," I said, and, not sure he really knew who was calling, "Do you know who this is?"

"Baby Ryan!" he responded without missing a beat.

Well, close enough.

He's always been an active baby, even in the womb. This morning I went in to check on him, only to find him doing some weird leg lift ab crunches in the crib. He's got star athlete written all over him.

It's hard to believe that our son is two weeks old already. They grow up so fast.

Ryan's First Week Home

It turns out that when you are a professional photographer with a newborn, there is a huge demand for new pictures. Here are various shots from Ryan's first week at home. I promise to try to blog more often.

Overall, the first week has been great. He's not overly fussy and he's still sleeping for decent chunks of time at night (Note: this is coming from the non-nursing parent in the house). We've made a few trips out of the house and he hasn't made a peep.

Ryan's favorite activity so far (except between 12 am and 3 am)...

So much for our quiet baby...

Meet Ryan Charles Bobb

This morning at 10:43 am, Carolyn and I welcomed our first child into the world. The whole process happened so quickly and Carolyn was amazing. She hardly broke a sweat, and only cursed my name a few times. I was so proud.

Though six days before our official due date, today is the day Carolyn picked in our baby pool. I think this thing was rigged. She had some inside information or something.

The specs:
Name: Ryan Charles Bobb
Gender: Male (duh). We didn't find out ahead of time, but by the end of the pregnancy we were both expecting a girl to pop out.
Weight: 6 lbs, 6 oz., a little peanut.
Length: 19.5 inches.
Hair: Lots.

The aforementioned lots of hair. Also the easiest prediction about this child. Vegas took this one off the board months ago.

Most of Ryan's first day was spent napping or quietly looking around. Very little crying, which we are hoping is a sign of things to come. Of course now that I've just jinxed us, we probably won't sleep for 5 years.

Bethany and Randall are such a sweet couple, and they had the amazing wedding that they deserved. After their ceremony at New Covenant Church, we headed over to the Newton White Mansion, which was beautifully decorated for the holiday season. Anyone considering a winter wedding should take a look at the Newton White. (It also holds a special place in my heart since I got married there in 2005!) Guests were treated to an amazing choir, a hot chocolate bar, a delicious assortment of food, and the big band sound of the 17-piece Bayside Big Band. A late November wedding means the sun goes down early, but we actually used that to our advantage for some dramatic and romantic portraits outside by a streetlight.

ENGAGED: Kristen & Kevin

We enjoyed a fabulous fall day for Kristen and Kevin’s engagement session at the studio. They are getting married next year, but wanted to take advantage of the gorgeous fall colors. I think we found some great colors. We are blessed with so many picturesque spots in and around the studio, and we keep finding new ones! I really enjoyed spending time with Kristen and Kevin and seeing how much they love each other. I’m already excited about their wedding!

ENGAGED: Cindy & Tad

I used Cindy and Tad's engagement session to explore some different areas around the studio that I've had my eye on. It was incredibly refreshing to try some new things, and they were up for anything. Willing subjects and great light are a photographer's best friends, and I had both. Birthday Fun

Yesterday my family got together to celebrate birthdays for my mom and my grandfather. They were both born on the same day (today actually)! It was great spending time with our family, and also my brother-in-law Giovanni's family. We don't get to spend enough time all together.

Yesterday also happened to be a big game for the Redskins against the Cowboys, and since we have one Cowboys fan in the family (by marriage, of course), we decided to bust out our Redskins jerseys to intimidate him. He had the last laugh however, as the Cowboys beat the Skins, but it was a better game than anticipated.

Happy birthday Mom and Granpda! We love you.

Bonnie & Min

The best weddings are filled with personal touches that represent the personalities of the bride and groom. Bonnie and Min are a fun-loving couple with seemingly legendary senses of humor. They put a lot of effort into their wedding (Bonnie even made her wedding dress!) and it definitely reflected their personalities. Guests were entertained by a karaoke machine, a Bonnie & Min Trivia game and even a dancing chicken. Bonnie made great use of our Snapshot Studio and the Halloween season by bringing costumes and props for guests to enjoy. Instead of traditional favors, Bonnie and Min gave each of their guests a tree sapling to plant, a wonderful and unique gift that reflected their values. The ceremony and reception were held at the beautiful Newton White Mansion in Mitchellville. Most ceremonies end with a kiss, but this one featured a kiss AND their "patented" high five. If you ask me, there should be more high fives at weddings. Congratulations Bonnie and Min!
