Stage Design: Grey Matter

This stage design was fairly simple as far as concept but took a great team of hard working volunteers to pull it off. For the squares, we just used spray painted foam board and mounted it on conduit. Add some truss, new lights, and bake for 30 minutes. Let cool before serving. Enjoy!

I’m not going to lie, this is one dude who loves him some Coke. I would say it has become an addiction with consuming at least two per day. That’s a good day. I know, it’s not healthy and I don’t think I realized how much sugar I was consuming until I came across SugarStacks.com. This clever little site stacks cubes of sugar as a visual of how much sugar is in your food or drink. Pretty interesting and scary all at the same time. Look at how much sugar is in a McDonald’s milkshake. That’s McNasty!

Gives You Hell

I believe the title of this post is the motto of my hosting company. After fighting with them for 9 days, I’m finally back up. Though this phrase is a great exaggeration about my experience, I figured I had to grab your attention somehow (though, I did spend a good 7 hours on the phone with tech support…that’s like, pretty close to purgatory right?). But that’s now behind me and I’m back with a new look, new design, new me. So I say hello to you, my blogging friends. Let’s take a walk. It’s about to get real interesting.

Nobody Remembers

I’d like to say that I’m a guy that doesn’t embarrass easily. I can let things slide and not really affect me. But I mean, who hasn’t been in situations where they were really embarrassed? I can testify to many awkward and red-faced moments. Sometimes, I find myself thinking back on the moments and getting even more embarrassed and ashamed.

But I’ve discovered something that has (almost) set me free. “Nobody remembers but you.” Life changing, I know. But the one time you DJ’d for your cousins wedding and didn’t know how to control the iPod for the first dance and everyone stood there staring? No one remembers—not even the bride herself. Or the time you were a little sick at the dinner table at your friends house and tried to hide it by taking a drink but your stomach had different plans? Nobody remembers that, either.

Both of those are my real life stories that I’ve asked people about and they don’t remember them happening. Yet, I’ve revisited them over and over in my mind and let them affect me. How daft!

But how true is it with sin? We realize our stupidity, go to God in repentance but then still focus on the one thing that He said He would “remember them no more” (Heb. 8:12)! It hampers our relationship with Him and we don’t experience true freedom. We have put up a wall that God promised to tear down.

What is keeping you from your full potential? Give it to God and then move on to greater things.

Office Olympics

Yesterday, our staff decided to let out our competitive side and host an office olympics. The events included, “Power Chair Obstacle,” “Flonkerton” and “Chair Race.” It was hilarious and I’m glad to be on a team that knows how to have fun! Enjoy the video.

Sex Talk

The title refers to our new series at In Focus that started yesterday and it was awesome! Our attendance had an increase of 20% and it’s only the first Sunday! Here are some pictures of our stage. I really like the set up of this one. I took my inspiration from the LED spheres at Coldplay and from another church. We don’t have the budget for ChromaSpheres so we ordered some paper lanterns, set them on top of truss and the rest is history.

I love my job.

Thanksgiving Games

Thanksgiving is a time where families come together around the table, enjoy some food and give thanks for another year. Everybody is happy and all is right with the world. Until game time.

No, not the football games that pipe through millions of American homes every year, I’m talking about board and card games. You know, the kind with the picture of a happy family on front. Yeah, that’s not us. My extremely competitive family enjoyed a nice post-Thanksgiving game of Imaginiff and Phase 10. In the instructions of Imaginiff, they warned us that “lively debate” might ensue. We had our fair share of those. Then we brought out Phase 10 which is a never-ending card game in which the luck of the draw leaves everyone frustrated. Now, before you start thinking we were yelling at each other the whole time, think again. There were a few moments of laughter but most of the time we were having “lively debates.” Oh, the joy of games bringing the family together.

Turn it UP!

I’ve heard of the Amazon mp3 store, a lot. In the news, blogs, DRM-free weirdos, writing in the sky, etc. I just never used it. Last night, there was an awful lot of twittering going on about Amazon vs. iTunes. In particular, Amazon offered Coldplay’s new EP for $5 cheaper than what I paid on iTunes. Crazy talk, I know. Someone asked me why I still used iTunes when I could get DRM-free, higher quality music for much less. I never really thought about it so I’m checking out Amazon. I have an iPod, iPhone and iMac so iTunes does make sense for me. The buying experience is definitely easier and more enjoyable but if I can get the same music for less, then I’m all for it. For example, I just saved $6 on The Killers new album on Amazon (I’m beginning to sound like a Geico commercial). Hooray for cheap music!
