Let me tell you about my one and only near death experience if I may lighten your day with such a tale! Climbing in the Lake District it was, thirty five years ago. Accompanied by my experienced friend and all roped up I ran out of strength half way up a climb. Totally exhausted I began to peel away from the rock face having completely forgotten that I was tied on and couldn’t in fact go anywhere. I thought however I had reached the end with no alternative but to accept the inevitable fall, almost certainly to my death.

And then I felt the support of the ropes. Maybe it was no more than a slight pull from above as my friend encouraged me upwards. Maybe I suddenly remembered that I was climbing with an experienced Himalayan climber who would of course have everything under control. Whatever it was, it was enough to energise me in a way I had thought would be completely impossible and scrambling upwards I shot up the last few metres of rock face like someone had put a rocket up my behind. Needless to say I arrived at the top gasping for breath. Completely relieved and shaking with a heady mix of fear and exhilaration I lay flat on my back, gazing at the sky with immense gratitude that my life was not in fact over.

But hey I tell a lie for there has been another near death experience; one not over in moments but drawn out over many many months if not years. A slow living death would be a better description as inch by inch the hard reality hit me that my life was in fact at an end, or so it seemed. That the choices made to risk all had simply left me with an insurmountable pile of debt made all the more intimidating by the level of responsibility I now carried as a Dad with two young girls.

It’s a terrible terrible thing to come to the realisation that your life is effectively over. That all the remaining years would be filled with the thorns and thistles of work to somehow keep your head inches above the rising tide of water, if in fact that was possible. For that’s what economic slavery is, a place inhabited by many millions across the world where all hope has gone and lives become no more than pawns in the power play of the trade routes, all the cards lying in the hands of others.

Lives without hope.

I remember the days of conference going where inspirational speakers, including at times myself, would tell the story of those ancient Celts setting off in their coracles. The very best orators would sometimes be chosen to read the prayer of Brendan as the call to adventuring beckoned. What we never told however was that some of these brave adventurers didn’t make it. Their coracles filled with water and they shivered their way into the most terrifying death.

You see some of us just don’t make it.

However to slowly begin to rediscover that there is a place of hope that can be found is huge; daring to believe that life has not come to an end but there may just be a way out of this dark incarceration of the soul, absolutely massive. Slowly energy returns and the days begin with hope rather than despair. The possibility looms that maybe one day in the future you might even get back in that coracle again…………. for no more than a little paddle round the bay but even that would be fun!

As the prophet Zechariah said three thousand years ago, “As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you I will set you free from the waterless pit.Return to your stronghold Oh prisoner of hope. Today I declare I will return to you double”

You know, maybe this journey of death has been inevitable for how can we prophesy into such dark places across the world without having first touched the depths of despair ourselves? Ha now here’s a good thought! A return to Jeddah one day, where everything was lost………..with my double portion to hand. Now that would be a good journey to make!

Apparently Pope John Paul 2nd said that the best name for agape love is solidarity. He says.

“We thought solidarity was being nice and affirming but ultimately it’s to stay in there with brokenness and let it lead you where it will……..Solidarity with pain and weakness is an aspect of masculine love. None of us would choose to be nailed to the cross or to freely take the side of victims in society. Circumstances will unwittingly trap us there and finally there is no way out……..This is God, step by step seducing us and drawing us into solidarity”

Thanks Sally Ann for drawing my attention to this most amazing quote.

So Happy New Year from this small part of cyber space! Yep you’ve got it, don’t come here if you want some cheery pick me up! No new year resolutions here about keeping fit down at the gym. I have my own daily work out that more than suffices. No, my new year resolution, for what’s it’s worth, is to keep holding in to that place of entrapment. Yes that place where the master story teller has seductively lead me and then, well thrown away the key it would sometimes seem. But how about this. Which scenario would you prefer? A handful of cards to play in the card game of life, or a fistful of nothing other than a complete reliance on the Master……………. to serve up a fresh hand when the time is right? Most of the time I would go for the cards I must confess. A good CV or some financial clout would do wonders I am sure, but maybe just maybe I could miss the best cards of all?

So that’s where I am at the start of this year. Holding in to my story; which is all broken up and completely without sense, but perhaps I can say at the start of this year, that is just about okay….I think!

It’s late and my body aches, as it does most days, from my days work. Raking leaves today, sackfuls of them. Grateful for the work and grateful for the home to come back to, time with the girls before their bed and other such normal stuff.

It’s the normal routines of life that keep us going at times isn’t it? Or at least for me. That’s how you do your time I am told, jail time that is. By getting your head down, minding your own business and living each day one at a time.

I have come to the conclusion, be it for my own sanity’s sake, that every story needs some jail time thrown in; perhaps with a few years hard labour tossed in for good measure. Maybe it was those years that helped craft the man Nelson Mandela became. The isolation and rigour of those twenty seven years; the long days and nights to look deep inside your own soul. Maybe that’s why President Jacob Zuma’s lost his way. You know, the one who was booed. He only did ten years on Robben Island. Not long enough perhaps to fully search the depths.

Whether it be the imprisonment of a career going nowhere, physical infirmity or any other form of major loss that life throws at us, the result is the same; all opportunity for control of the future is taken from us. Yeah I know, I can hear the life coach mantras too, but hear the words of that most ancient of journeymen, Job. ‘If He imprisons a man there can be no release’

Wow, not the most comforting of words Job! Could have come up with something else surely?

Maybe your doing your time too. Maybe you feel as we do cos we had such a good story! A story that spanned continents and weaved its way through some of the most amazing cities across the globe. It was good to tell and wonderful to live as history and geography connected on the parchment paper of lives lived out in the reality of our own living room.

Where did it all go?

Part of the reality of being inside, in jail I mean, is you feel completely disconnected from everything you used to feel so connected to. Like John the Baptist as he tentatively asks from his prison cell, ‘are you the one, or should we look for another? Can you hear the pain in that question? If so then you have some understanding of the true nature of prison time.

So I draw courage today cos I’m doing my time, and the surroundings are a lot more pleasant that Robben Island I can tell you.

‘For goodness sake get over it Steve’ I hear some of you cry! Upwards and onwards is the mantra is it not. And yes no harm in that. Working harder than at any other point in my life we have attempted to move on. Unlike for one or two of my friends, nobody has died, Christmas is coming and laughter is returning to our home. Ha! That is so good.

I have heard it said that ‘you don’t give a man a sword until he has learnt to dance’ Sadly this particular blogger has always been an embarrassing dancer. The notorious ‘Dad’s dance’ found its beginnings at my feet. However it is such a liberating thing to begin to discover hilarious laughter in the place of failure; to look at the ashes of our lives and throw our heads back and laugh, for you cannot trust a man with a sword until he has learnt to dance. Thank you Richard Rohr was it, for those words?

Learning to laugh in the face of adversity is huge, yet in so doing I will not deny the reality of these last years. Indeed to do so would be to renegade on the deep conviction I carry that the master storyteller never drops the pen on the story of our lives, even if there have been many many moments when I have wondered just that. Yet to live without a story is unthinkable is it not? Life would surely lose all meaning and context. Yes I could immerse myself in family and in that I am so totally blessed. Indeed these recent years I have discovered something of that ‘Mafioso stick together mentality’ It’s the family that matters! Well yes it is, and I am grateful for that, but I also choose to believe there is more to our stories than even the wonder of family.

So what are these gems buried so deep in the ashes of these wilderness years? Gems that demanded we walk as close as we have ever come to financial implosion and caused me to doubt everything I have sown my life into these last thirty plus years? Well, with huge thanks to Walter Brueggemann and his most excellent book ‘The Land’ they lie somewhere between the precariousness of wilderness journey and the promise of land gifted.

More I hope to follow. These gems are somewhere…….honest!

It’s a rare moment to find myself at the computer with some space to write, some energy to formulate my thoughts and yes, even more surprising still, something perhaps to say. Even now I struggle to find the words for these five years gone since moving from our home in Leeds to live out on the farm; one where we have moved from being landed to landless and landlord to tenant; from journey into promise to the wanderings of wilderness and the loneliness of exile. Five years also where any hiding place we once had as a small adventuring family has been well and truly sown to the trade route wind.

What has it all been about?

I am aware that amongst some, the language of exile has become familiar, perhaps a metaphor for loss of influence or a way of describing a growing gulf in values and ethics across the western world. For Kathy and I no such luxury! Oh that our journey was simply metaphorical or tied up in conversations about values and ethics. Now that would be nice! No; for us it has been earthed in the realities of…..well you know the story, or least you do if you have been following this blog and if you haven’t, well it would take far too long to explain!

Forgive me also if you think I linger too long over events of the last few years documented well in this portion of online space. However to lose your place in the land and amongst the landed is as profound an experience as any I have gone through. That is the material of the recent pages of our story so it is that I must pick up on if we are to begin to gather up the shredded threads. I have no other starting point.

Make sense?

More to follow…………..I hope.

It is now over a year since some of us made the Jeddah declaration, looking to speak a better story onto the global trade routes. It was about three months on from that point that Kathy and I realised we had lost any last hiding place we had financially as JustPens went into the ground. Had we been a normal middle aged couple (whatever that means) that would have been disappointing. For us however, having lived lives of significant risk taking, with a young family in tow, it was devastating, if not terminal. Totally exposed and feeling more than a little foolish there was no place to hide.

•

Ha! Why does the Lord allow these things to happen?

•

I wish I could say that He has restored all that we have lost. I can’t say that because he, as yet, hasn’t. However, we do believe we are learning some huge lessons that carefully and humbly we share with you all today. Given the seismic times of global shift we are in, knowing the reality of the Lord’s provision is no longer an optional extra for never has less been guaranteed. We trust therefore you find these perspectives helpful in your journey. They are not conclusive for we are only a short distance down this road. We are very much a work in progress! However, if they can be of help then we will be glad.

•

The Lord wants to deliver us from our fears more than he wants to deliver us from what we perceive as the reality of our situation. In other words, the internal battle has to be won first before the external battle can turn. Yes He wants to restore all things but more importantly He wants us to know the place of rest and peace amongst the circumstances that can threaten our very existence.

We would prefer to make this journey ourselves rather than see our children and the younger generations have to make it. If, as a couple in our late fifties, we are just preoccupied with our own well being and financial security then what legacy is that? The reality is Zhen and Zhou are never going to have pensions and secure jobs for life. That is history! We are willing to fight for a legacy of faith and complete trust in the provision of the Lord so that they do not have to.

Success can be failure, and failure can be success. When I first set out on the trade route journey I had sight of travelling to many of the global trading ports of East Africa, the Middle East and beyond. The heady mixture of business, prayer and travel was a powerful draw and yes, right now, after a hard days work digging someone’s garden, it feels very appealing! However, which story speaks a better word? Kathy and I fighting, day on day, the challenge of what we have declared in the little world of our own financial needs, or Mr Ministry boy setting off on more of his travels? An interesting question that only the Lord can answer.

We can only do what we can do, to state the obvious. I must confess that there have been many moments these last 12 months when I have got so down on myself. ‘If only I could earn more money.’ ‘If only I hadn’t ever walked out of my own front door all those years ago in 2005.’ ‘If only………if only………….if only’. No, we can only do what we can do. Massive thanks to you Martin for this simple truth that brought tears of relief to me just a few days ago. Follow the link here if you want to read. I have never run a marathon, but your words spoke deeply to me.

Five and ten year plans are not the way forward. Yes with debts needing to be repaid and neither of us getting younger they have a place, but, Steve, look for and expect the Holy Spirit interruptions that in a moment can turn everything round. We have yet to encounter them on this journey, but they are there to be found.

It’s the place of rest we have to fight for, not the provision of God There is nothing knew about a story of fear and strife on the trade routes. However a story of deep rest and trust in the Lord, well that’s another matter! Yes to carrying the rest of the Lord right into the heart of all the challenges we all face.

Be careful what we say! If we want to change the world, then the Lord will ask us to stand in some extreme positions. There is no doubt that Jeddah was such a place for Kathy and I. However, thirteen months on from making our declaration we continue to live out its reality. Indeed if we prophesy nothing else for the rest of our lives but master this place of standing, then that will really count!…………………..but be careful what we say.

When we set off to Rome several years ago the question we carried was this. “Can the lives and decisions of ordinary people lived out in the living rooms of their own homes affect the passage of history in the places of power across the globe? That question is as alive for us today as it was in those heady Autumn months of 2005. A good question to be carrying onto these global trade routes, and a good question to carry as I look to another year of cutting hedges, mowing grass and laying patios.

After a two years of seeking to track with the finger of God it would appear that our trade route journey has come to an end. With continued patterns of delay and procrastination our business plan has completely unravelled and despite many moments of heavenly encounter there now is nowhere for us to go other than into the ground.

For Kathy and I a precious inheritance has been sown. For others offerings have been made that are not without a price tag. Looking however for a different story to begin to rise on the trade routes we have sought to be a provocation to the powers right beneath the shadow of Mecca. With pen in one hand and story book in the other we have stood like some modern day Moses, quaking in our boots but knowing with complete certainty the reality of the hand of the Lord on our journey.

Our declaration has been made however and that is something worth living for! We are choosing now to believe for full restoration for everyone who has stood with us, including of course Solomon and Monica, our business partners and friends. We rest also in the knowledge that only heaven declares what is success and what is failure. That is what counts.

The redemptive power of the cross

***

As we faced into the reality of a tough journey coming to an end I received an email from our friend and trade route mentor Richard Fleming. He said these words. ‘I believe there is huge redemptive and restorative power released when the seed goes into the ground and dies and I also believe it is a sign of the Lord accepting the seed and taking responsibility for reproduction and growth.’ This is what we are now believing for. The Lord never drops the pen on the stories of our lives. He is never stuck for something fresh to write so who knows what shift may emerge on these migrant paths over the months to come.

Of course it could all have been a terrible mistake! These pathways that we have journeyed down are far off the well worn path of church as we have known it. The risk factor is way beyond simply hosting a conference or planning a good meeting, for the substance of our lives is required for such journeys. Indeed we become the prayer as heart in mouth we look to find a new place to stand, the only way to live if we want to fully imbibe the gospel.

But yes we could have got it wrong. That is the risk of faith. The good news is there is more than enough grace for that, even if it is so.

Since coming off the road four years ago the two things I have given myself to have gone into the ground. Now that is some track record! (Note to self I suggest for you readers who have got this far-stay away from that lowton guy!) You won’t be surprised to hear therefore that I am greatly encouraged by news of the re-launch of Stories from the Street. Follow this linkfor more info. That the Lord restores everything was underlined by the fact that Vicky, who is now running Sfts, receieved a grant recently that almost exactly matckes the 30K investment that a number of people made into Sfts. That for me is the economy of the Lord at work! Everything recovered and good seed sown.

The Lord is no mans debtor and this will also be true for the trade route journey. It is time to move on however, for to stay in this Jeddah gate any longer would not be good. We have sown our seed; now we look for the wind of God’s incredible grace to take us where he wills.

Trusting this little venture has in some way encouraged you on your journey and massive thanks once again to everyone who has prayed or given into this prophetic act.

About eighteen months ago I felt it right to draw a line on Stories from the Street. I had obviously taken it as far as I could; now it needed someone fresh with different ideas. I therefore emptied what was left in the bank account and passed it all onto Vicky Ward from Sheffield, giving her also the domain name. Vicky is based in the city of Sheffield and works with the homeless and the elderly. She is ideally placed for the stories locked up on the streets of our cities. A seed went into the ground, but fresh life is already rising! This is Vicky’s update.

In a nutshell, I inherited SFTS from Steve about 17 months ago. Most of you who know Steve and have followed his story will know this, and will have an understanding as to why SFTS changed hands. Not only did Steve hand over the SFTS name and website domain, he also passed on the remains of the funds in the bank which was about £1050.00. Before we get going with the update, I feel it’s important to firstly honour Steve (and Kathy!) for walking (and continuing to walk) this journey – often at a cost to them, for sticking everything on the line and for releasing others to follow behind them, so THANK YOU!! and big props out to you Steve and Kathy! Secondly, to be accountable on the use of the funds we were given by Steve. SFTS has spent the funds on a rebranding/logo design; new business cards and paperwork; payment to incorporate as a legal not-for-profit company, and whatever is left will go towards public liability and employers liability insurance. Huge thank you to those who have invested over the years, your money has been used wisely and has gone a long way to help relaunch SFTS!

It has taken some time to listen and mull over ideas/a way forward for SFTS. I’ve wanted to hold strongly to the original values of SFTS – that is to help tell stories that are based in real life, authentic, gritty and dignify those who either tell the story or whom the stories are about. There is also still a strong emphasis on helping tell the stories of those who live more on the margins of society, to help increase their voice. However, how stories are told has changed. SFTS has developed to include the full use of creative arts and digital media to engage with individuals; communities and organisations to help tell their stories.

As a result, SFTS has emerged a not-for-profit social enterprise and community arts project. We’re currently going through the incorporation process and hope to be fully registered with Company House by the end of June 2012. As an organisation, SFTS still strongly values relationship over function, and looks to work in collaborative partnership with others. The development of 4 services have been identified as a way to enable real-life story telling, and to try to make it easier for people to understand what we ‘do’ and how we outwork our values. These are:

1) An interactive online story-telling website – This is going to be very similar to the previous site but with an increased capacity and flexibility. Now the branding is in place, the website building can begin and it should be launched sometime in June or July. Watch this space!

2) Story-telling workshops. SFTS now runs workshops for individuals and organisations. The workshops are flexible and tailored to meet the needs of the people accessing them. THe emphasis is very much on real-life stories, however they offer participants the opportunity to develop new and existing skills alongside story-telling. At the end of the workshops we host a celebration event that provides a platform to publicly tell people’s stories to a wider audience, and to harness the power of story to challenge and overcome some of the barriers that can lead to discrimination and/or social exclusion. The development of the workshops has been really exciting! I completed a trial series of workshops last summer in partnership with the homeless day centre in Sheffield. The outcomes of these were incredible! The service users told how taking part had helped them develop their personal confidence and self-esteem; communication and literary skills; and discover new interests! To celebrate we held an exhibition of their writing and images in Sheffield Cathedral for two weeks. Building on the success of the workshops SFTS have been working with the homeless centre since January 2012 delivering creative writing and photography workshops, and we start delivering workshops in partnership with the drug and alcohol residential rehab unit from July 2012. In the long term, the aim is to apply for grant funding to be able to pay two sessional workers to deliver the workshops with organisations within Sheffield and South Yorkshire. Grant funding also means people get to access the workshops free of charge, but we’ll do it for nothing even if funding doesn’t come through!

3) Story-telling packages

I’ve spent the last year working with older people within Sheffield, and as you can imagine, have had the privilege of hearing so many incredible life stories. The older people I’ve spent my time with have inspired the development of the story-telling packages. Here, the aim is that individuals and/or families will be able to access a bespoke service, whereby SFTS works with the individual and/or the family to capture it’s history/generational stories. These will then be collated into either a small book/DVD/CD depending upon how that individual wants their stories captured. Alongside this, the secondary aim is to encourage and enable older people to engage with digital media; help them develop new or existing interests that are easy to maintain. for example, one of my colleagues was speaking to an older gentleman with an interest in photography. SFTS would be able to provide a series of 1-2-1 tutorial to help him pursue his interest; tell stories; and develop his skills – looking at creative ways to enable him to explore this whilst taking into consideration health and mobility; memory loss; and other issues that impact older people.

Again, the aim is to provide this service as free at the point of contact. However, grant funding will be sought to help cover the costs where necessary. Services for all adults over the age of 18 who are in need of, or who require support from their local authority are assessed and allocated a needs- and contribution-based personal budget known as Self Directed Support (SDS) = the adult has increased choice and control over their care. I’m aiming to design the story-telling packages to meet the approved provider standard set by Sheffield City Council, so that older people can access this via SDS.

The story-telling packages are currently being developed. we’re looking to trial in June and July, and launch them late August/beginning of September. There is a desperate need for quality services for older people, who are being badly affected by the cuts to services and service provision. So many are left living isolated and alone. To be able to work with individuals, teach them digital media skills, and maybe even link people together via the interactive website, may help to reduce social isolation and increase participation within the world we live in today!

4) Story-telling for business.

We’ve gone the whole hog here and included story-telling for businesses within the social enterprise. SFTS aims to bid for and win consultancy contracts where we can tell ‘good-news’ stories about the difference “business X” is making in their community. How do we do this? Well, we’ll be offering organisations from all sectors a story-telling service that includes a whole heap of things!! The very good news is that SFTS has just secured it’s first business consultancy contract Wohoooooooo!! It also gives an example of some of the services we are offering to businesses.

It’s for 7 days per month over 15 months! SFTS will be working with a local homelessness charity based in Sheffield. As part of their service, they operate a volunteer programme for service users who have been through their service and who are now ready/nearly ready to move on. The charity have commissioned SFTS to undertake a full review and feasability study of their volunteer programme, with the view of capturing what works/doesn’t work alongside the stories of the volunteers on the programme. SFTS will then turn their programme into a story of good practice and promote this at a local, regional and national level.

What’s exciting about winning this contract, is that the charity are really supportive of SFTS – who we are and what we’re trying to do! The consultancy work will provide a platform to promote the whole of SFTS at a national level over the next 15 months – which can only be a good thing! THe other positives is that the cost of delivering the contract will pay me a wage for 7 days a month which means I get a basic income and don’t have to worry about paying the rent for a year. Because it is only 7 days, the contract also releases my time to invest into developing the workshops, services for older people and putting in place all the systems that are needed to operate smoothly and within the law!

There have been other opportunities for SFTS to live our values and tell untold stories. In March, I received an open invitation to work with a charity in Libya who are supporting a community of displaced refugees following on from the change in government there. This tiny refugee community have absolutely NO VOICE! They have been completely displaced from their homelands and are isolated from their country and the rest of the world, they are desperate to find a way to tell their story in order to raise awareness of the situation they face and the injustice they have experienced. I’m hoping to try to make a trip out there in the autumn to initially meet with the charity and with the refugee community as for me personally, this is where I’d really love to take SFTS – to use story-telling to highlight injustice and lobby for human rights. However as with most things, timing is essential, and until SFTS has laid a foundation where we can go out and tell their story well then it’s on hold…

So there it is… It’s been a long time coming! THere is so much more I could write but will leave it there as this update is already too long! Final mentions have to be about Jesus. Loved how Jesus has surprised me again and again over the past few months, He has been incredibly faithful every step of the way and brought the right connections at the right times – through to timely meetings with business and soc enterprise advisers; bumping into old networks at key moments; meeting new people who love who we are/what we do and have gossip-ed SFTS to other services… Jesus has also provided every step of the way for me too – mainly in just the little things which has been such a huge encouragement. Big up the big man!

News is filtering out of Saudi that the goverment is in the advance stages of changing policy over the abusive practice of sponsorship and the confiscation of the passports of migrant workers. Anyone who has tracked with our journey will know that this has been the primary point of abuse that we have been seeking to prophesy into as we look to write a new story on the trade routes. This is absolutely massive! To read more of this story follow the link here.

If this can shift then what more can also shift as we press further into the new story waiting to be downlaoded from the heavens. Patterns of bonded labour, child slavery, trafficking-all the foul practises that pollute these global portals of power can all come under the scrutiny of the Lord. Of course we cannot say categorically that this is happening because of our journey….How foolish that would be. Neither can we say the opposite however. That too would be complete foolishness! So we are celebrating, not withstanding that this has yet to be fully ratified. Let’s pray that it is.Will keep you posted.

Not without a cost

The level of contesting to get this far has been huge however. In fact delay after delay over these last two years has meant that the ink refills in around 140K of our pens is failing. We do however have more bullets to fire! So right now another batch of 200K pens is being shipped out from Chennai to Jeddah. These are 12 months younger than the first batch. So we have another chance to prophesy further into this trade route space! And behind them is a further 400K pens that have yet to start their shelf life, so we are ready to get as far through this door as there is grace for us to go.

Cut open Bablyon and what do you find?

John the seer had sight of the trade routes when, caught up in the Spirit he foresaw the destruction of Bablyon. And when she was cut open what was found but ‘the blood of the prophets and the saints and all who had been slain on the earth’ (Rev 18v24). Now that would be some legacy to leave! For Babylon to be cut open and the likes of you and I found there, plus a few hundred thousand pens. Devoured? Or sold out for a story that is so dangerous it brings through the destruction of the foul usurper.

The church in Jeddah has offered to replace manually each of the refills in the 140K pens that have failed, a wonderful sign of them beginning to really own this journey. This will cost us about 2K to fund. If anyone would like to contribute then a massive thanks. That would enable us to stay in place that much longer. We may never turn around any profit and Kathy and I and others may never be repaid any of what has been a costly investment. Yet what riches to be gained and what an incredible story to help shape.

Over these next weeks we would be grateful if you would pray for speedy passage for our next batch of pens. The last shipment took about five months to tranist and get through customs, such was the contesting. We are looking for this to be no more than one month this time, a normal time frame.

If anyone wants to partner further with us in this crazy journey then get in touch! And thanks for passing this way.

Well if you have been wondering where I have been then I have been eating my words. Bitter in the tasting without a doubt.

Nearly two weeks ago I and a few friends spoke our the declaration below; without a doubt one of the biggest days of my life. Bold words indeed.Thought I had fully digested them but alas they got stuck somewhere on route. Still, we all need to nail our colours to one mast or another and I have nailed mine.

Regrets? Actually, in my darkest moments, yes. However I can’t actually afford such indulgence. So I set my face, even as I did seven years ago.

A declaration to Arabia, the trade routes and economic systems

We come today as children of the living God, knowing O Lord that our destiny is completely secure in you. You are our provider and you are our Kinsman Redeemer; the one who has the last word over our lives. We have considered the lilies and the ravens and are completely confident of your provision. We therefore refuse the lure of mammon and agree that in casting our bread upon the waters it will not return void.

We rest this day from our labours.

Today our testimony is one of no fear. No room for worry about what we shall eat or what we shall drink for our Father in heaven knows what we need. Ha! That is enough! We declare today we trust you for our old age and we trust you for our children. We refute the fallen systems of this world and refuse to be measured as economic units. Instead we stand in the blessing of Abraham; a blessing that is for us and our children and for those who are far off. Let it flow!

We come to you Arabia as indeed we come to the Square Mile of London, Wall Street of America and every other so called storehouse across the face of this world declaring you are not our keeper. We need you less than you think for our destiny and inheritance is secured………..but you have need of us and our Lord and the story of grace and redemption that we carry. You think you are rich but we humbly remind you today, you are blind wretched and poor.

Our invitation to you is to leave behind your self-serving agenda and to rise into your true identity. We therefore speak to you trade routes and declare we will not partner with you in service of the god of mammon for there is a different story to rise and a different flow to be found.

A flow that is from heaven to earth; one that has the power to break famines over lands and deliver whole nations from cycles of poverty.

A flow that brings freedom in the place of captivity and decrees an exposure and unravelling of child labour, bonded labour and every other form of economic slavery across the face of this world.

A flow that releases the gold to go to the source of all that is truly glorious……………..for to him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honour and glory and power forever and ever.

We therefore stand with Jesus at the door and knock. You Laodicean lands be unlocked to enter your rightful inheritance. We say let blind eyes be opened and purses be unstrung. We stand with pen in one hand and story book in the other declaring let a new story begin to rise up and down the length of these global trade routes; a story of laughter, justice and the glorious provision of our Lord and God. We say to you trade winds that there is a wind far more powerful than you. It is the wind of heaven and the wind from the storehouses of heaven. Let it be heard again across the face of the globe.

So this is our decree today. Hear O lands the word of the Lord. Amen

Filed under: The journey east, Trade route journey
