STEVE FOON IMAGES

IT's BEEN A BIT...

2025-12-22T18:12:00.000-08:00

Slowly I am getting back into the fold. Rediscovery of the fun and enjoyment. As much as GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) is also back, I've taken time to study and look at works from others. Spending time looking at various forms of art from drawings, paintings, calligraphy, architecture, industrial design and of course my number one love and passion - car designs.

Using tools that are from "a more elegant time" (line from a movie called Conspiracy).
Cars that are as analog and with feel and character. Watches that are mechanical. Pens that require you in actually load ink or dip, paper, cameras with imperfect and limited range film (instant), devices that require human power (French press coffee for exmaple), knobs, dials and buttons, etc...

A guy I came to know working at a camera store who was also a camera rep at one time told me things that didn't fully register at the time. I was caught up trying to chase perfection. The best of everything. In his own way, he was giving me an education.

Older and wiser, I've come to know that perfection is not part of the formula. In fact it is the imperfection that makes things real.

I am glad to see another generation starting to understand this. They and their parents grew up in the digital age. Some of these younger people understand that digital is indeed FAKE. 1's and 0's.

There is a thing called TOO PERFECT. I know a lot of photographers chasing this. Spending thousands of dollars in pursuit of this. Nothing wrong and in fact if it makes you happy... so be it.

At the end we are human. It's all about feel. Something tangible. Something real.

My goal is to capture time. Thus my tag line "Steve Foon Images - Capturing Light and Life" has been around now for over a decade already. It has more meaning today.

THE COST of Re-EDUCATION of a HOBBY...

2024-12-29T16:16:00.000-08:00

A few years ago when I was a bit active in the Photo Industry - pushing hardware, part of the enjoyment was educating customers with their camera/photography needs and wants. It was so rewarding to help them achieve whatever photographic goal they were searching for.

One thing I use to say to either someone starting out or someone getting back "into it", was that the beauty of the digital age is that digital cameras makes the learning so much easier and cheaper. Easier in that they see their results right there and then and can correct their mistakes. Cheaper due to just having to buy gear (although that will change as they progress - that's for another day).

Behold.... my adventure back into the art. Before you is a stack of trial and error - learning the camera and the film. About $50 on the table there. Not to mention the $600 for the Polaroid i-2 and $1100 for the Mint Instantkon RF70.

What you would do for love...

I'm Back...

2024-12-29T02:29:00.000-08:00

The 3 Musketeers - My good friend Dave, my wife and me ( I was 30 lbs lighter back then )

As you can tell this was during the days of Covid.

Dave is the one who taught me how to travel and to see things. To this, I am forever grateful.

A lot has happened and a lot of photos were taken for a period of time.

Time to catch up to share since the goal of this blog was to leave something behind when that day comes.

To all my former followers - I hope you will follow once again. To those new, take a look at the body of work and hope you will be following.

Damn Covid...

2020-11-25T09:59:00.002-08:00

The inability to pack a bag and go is hampered for now. Perhaps the only good thing is that cities like Rome is that it's probably not this crowded and that the citizens there can enjoy their sites without all of us pesky tourists.

Learning lenses...

2020-11-19T08:06:00.005-08:00

Starting to get that feeling once again. Trying to understand and learn what a specific lens will give me. Finding photography once again.

Us guys know when we hear the "Honey...." that means work. So my chore for a day off is to power wash the patio and concrete. So I did.

Count Basie, Las Vegas, The Tropicana, Vinyl and a good scotch... Damn you Covid 19, I would have been on an airplane this coming weekend.

Getting back to it...

It's been a long time since the urge to shoot...
(sorry...cellphone shot)

Disc goes round and round...

2020-06-28T17:22:00.002-07:00

Some of my audiophile friends will tell me, "it's not really analog" since I'm using even worse than solid state... digital amplifier. I'm sorry guys. Perhaps one of you want to donate to me a good McIntosh. But there's something satisfying about spinning vinyl and a physical stylist making contact with groves. Just like driving a manual transmission car and using a Leica camera.
A lazy Sunday afternoon.

Photography happening here...

2020-06-26T00:00:00.000-07:00

One thing cool about Camera West in Walnut Creek, it's about photography and gear.

It's about sleeping...

Enough with the cellphone, tv, reading and cameras... time to sleep!

Life under Covid-19 - Work...

2020-06-25T22:33:00.001-07:00

Although this image may lead you to think there's no business, at this Subaru dealership there was a lot of activity. Just that it's being conducted under the new norm of social distancing and disinfection.
