Join Susan Lenoe for her one-woman performance as Anne Bradstreet: Founding Mother & First Poet, Her Story & her Poetry. Meet the mature Anne as she looks back on her extraordinary life: an immigrant to the New World, a pioneer settling 3 Massachusetts towns, a mother to 8 children,

and a published author who wrote hundreds of pages of poetry, while supporting her husband, Simon, in his public life as Secretary and Deputy Governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Anne’s story is the life of a courageous and gifted woman, showing Andover in the 1600’s.

This presentation is an interactive conversation sprinkled with Bradstreet’s poems and thoughts.

Sun., May 20 at 3:00 pm in the Rotunda. Refreshments following.

Before the performance, visit the exhibit Crossing Over: Anne Bradstreet’s Journey to the New World to learn about Anne’s early life in England through photographs and maps of area. The exhibit is located on the top floor of the Library, opposite the elevator.

Thanks to the North Andover Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency for sponsoring the performance.

Thanks to Miriam Buttes for the preparing the exhibit; exhibit photography (c) by Charles Buttes.

And, thanks to the Friends of the Stevens Memorial Library for sponsoring this event.

The Stevens Memorial Library represents slightly more than 1% of the total municipal budget. To provide services to our entire community, the Library spends less than the cost of one hard cover book per resident. With these funds, we make available the entire public library system (370 libraries, networks and regions) of the state of Massachusetts. This wealth of resources includes books, magazines, newspapers, reference material, online databases, free Internet access, audio-visual collections and an abundance of resources that inform, entertain, and enrich the lives of North Andover residents. For this small investment, our Library provides significant cost savings each time you borrow from our collections, utilize one of our computer resources, or attend one of our programs, just to name a few of our many popular services. Stevens Memorial Library offers North Andover residents the best value for their tax dollars. Visit the Mass Library Association “Values Calculator” to determine how much our Library saves you and your family each visit, each week, or each month of each year.
