Rich Dad's Escape from the Rat Race

The following is an editorial review from School Library Journal

Grade 3 Up–The authors of the bestselling Rich Dad, Poor Dad attempt to teach financial intelligence to children through colorful cartoon images and cute animal characters. However, the lessons are more suitable for high school students. The authors tell readers to minimize their liabilities such as credit-card debt while building assets, such as starting their own businesses. Examples of the latter include charging classmates to read their comic books or for borrowing their bicycles. The lessons encourage financial intelligence, but seem to discourage readers from getting a traditional job and fail to mention the hard work and long hours involved in running one's own business. Keltie Thomas's The Kids Guide to Money Cent$ (Kids Can, 2004) and Jamie Kyle McGillian's The Kids' Money Book (Sterling, 2003) offer far better advice.–Karen T. Now here's another take on the matter.

It is important to teach children fiscal responsiblity early or they will forge the attitude "Give Me Give Me" or better yet "You Owe Me" which I love. Now as for what Keltie Thomas says, "The lessons encourage financial intelligence, but seem to discourage readers from getting a traditional job and fail to mention the hard work and long hours involved in running one's own business." Thomas makes a strong point for the need to teach our children the importance of a traditional job and how hard work and long hours go into owning your own business, but failed to remember that each child is unique and should be encouraged to work in a field of interest and "work to live not live to work" as some people would have our society do. Life is short we must enjoy it and that includes our JOBS!

7 Habits of Highly Effective Internet Marketers

There is no exact formula for internet marketing success, but there are some general guidelines that virtually all successful people follow.

Here are the 7 habits of highly effective internet marketers:

Habit 1: Doing something everyday

Let's start off our list with the one thing that will positively make or break an internet marketer: keeping your butt in the chair! It is so easy to keep working hard day after day when the results are flowing, but often in this industry, they take time to show up. It is not hard to get discouraged and take weeks off, but that will destroy your business and any chances you had for success.

You do not need to kill yourself every day, but just do a little bit. Lay one brick of your wall and in a few years you will have your own mini Great Wall of China.

Habit 2: Setting the right goals

As the old adage goes: failing to plan is planning to fail. You must, must, must set the right goals. What constitutes a "right" goal? Anything that:
1) is reasonable for you to achieve in the near future
2) is focused in the right direction, something that will lead to even greater things
and 3) is something you desire and is worth your effort to achieve. Follow those steps and set your goals.

Habit 3: Doing in-depth research

There is a time and place for gut feelings, but this business is very logical. Of course you need to do what your are interested in doing, and you need to have fun. But it is also important to do research on any new idea or technique that you have in mind.

9 times out of 10 you will fail if you just "see what happens." Chances are, someone else has already done it and written about the results. You will save yourself a great deal of effort (and heartache) if you simply research any new thing you plan on doing, whether this is a new site idea, a new niche, a marketing technique, etc. Research before acting.

Habit 4: Networking with others

There are thousands of VERY skilled internet marketers that have much more experience than the both of us combined, and make far more money than us, too.

Why not find these people and ride their coattails? Go to forums or blogs and start interacting with others. At worst you find like-minded people that will encourage you, at best you will find an awesome mentor that can show you exactly what you need to learn.

Habit 5: Outsourcing

If you have been in this business for any length of time, you know that it is impossible to do everything yourself. The world is now far too specialized and there is simply not enough time to learn and keep up with it all yourself.

Find a pro. In fact, always have a team of pros just one email or IM away. A web designer, xhtml coder, php developer, content writer, and whatever else you might need. Build a good team and keep them happy, because they will keep you happy (and sane).

Habit 6: Building upon success

Many times in this business we get bored with success. Then, what happens is you start looking for new avenues to conquer. Don't do this. Instead, if you have one success repeat that again and again. Use your momentum to propel you even farther.

Take one victory and turn it into 10 victories. Maybe you built one successful content site, now do the same thing 10 more times. Or if you have a successful local site, expand nationally. This is how you build an empire that is incredibly valuable.

Habit 7: Keeping Focus!

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, stay on task!

There seems to be a virus that infects internet marketers. As soon as we get knee-deep into one awesome idea, something shiny in the distance catches our attention. We are then tempted to give up all our progress and start chasing this new object. Or worse, we think we can do both at once, but that just ends up in failure on all levels.

When you make a decision to start something new, refuse any other ideas, no matter how awesome they seem. Create a folder with good ideas for later, but for now you are committed.

Following the above tips will not guarantee you everlasting success online, but breaking them will most certainly lead to failure. Begin to implement these ideas and you will be preparing the way for internet marketing success!

Product Review: Perfect Traffic Storm

Well it's been a while since my last entry, so let's see if we can make any sense of a new Viral Traffic Service called Perfect traffic Storm.

Perfect Traffic Storm is a new site that says it guarantees more CONVERTING web visitors and online advertising with very little effort or cost. So I decided to put it to the test...

My first impression was the site looks professional and clean, with an attractive look and feel. It is easy to read and understand. Joining the site was easy and painless--they do offer 2 upgrade options but they are not required to gain the benefits.

The Members Area is very well laid out and intuitive--I could figure out what to do after only a few minutes and was able to get up and running in less than 5 minutes. Inside the site, you create links and ads--the links you simply enter any URL links you use into the generator and it transforms them into "Perfect Traffic Storm" links. You create ads for anything you want to promote using the Perfect Traffic Storm Ad Generator, which is very easy to use. You can create as many links and as many ads as you like. And they are organized in a logical way--links are displayed in the order you create them but also your 5 most recent links appear on the main page for quick reference. Also, since the link generator is the tool you'll use most, it is also right at the top of the main page when you login. Very smart!

After you've created at least 1 link and 1 ad you can start to generate traffic. Just use and promote the new Perfect Traffic Storm link instead of the original source link you had. Every time the Perfect Traffic Storm link is clicked, the page loads followed by a cool slide-up ad window at the bottom. It displays an ad PLUS an image with your affiliate link that goes back to Perfect Traffic Storm. So if anyone clicks the Perfect Traffic Storm image they see the site, and if they signup they become your referral. It's a great viral feature because you can build referrals without even trying to just by using the site.

Now every time the ad window displays (your Perfect Traffic Storm links get clicked) you earn credits that get YOUR ad displayed in the ad windows when other members' links get clicked. So the more clicks, the more times your ads get displayed.

And this works virally--meaning as you make referrals into Perfect Traffic Storm (either by promoting it or just using it and visitors click the Perfect Traffic Storm image on the ad window to join) you also earn ad credits on THEIR link clicks. And this works up to 5 levels deep. So you can create a massive amount of free ad views and web traffic by referring others to Perfect Traffic Storm also.

I didn't get to test the full effect of a big downline yet (I just got the tool) but I can tell you the rest of the site works exactly as stated--my links got clicked, I earned credits, and my ads got displayed. Perfect Traffic Storm even tracked my results so I know how many clicks and how many ad displays. That was an impressive unadvertised extra feature.

There is one more benefit and feature which might be the best of them all--downline emailing. You can email your downline with offers, promotions, or whatever you like, and here is where Perfect Traffic Storm really shines. They took time to make the emailing often enough that it's valuable as a user, but no so often that it's a burden to your downline. But the best part about this feature (and actually the credit earning too) is that it tells you exactly how long until you can mail again. Now THAT's cool.

Overall I have to say I am impressed with Perfect Traffic Storm. It is simple yet powerful, and delivers on its promises. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to increase traffic and advertising.

Negotiating With Confidence

Hello and Welcome Back,

It's Steve of Steve's Place. Tonight I am going to discuss the second of three skills, which is Negotiating, that you can improve on today that will have a big impact on your future success.

So, let's recap a little about the first skill, which was "Public Speaking." And because you can refer back to the previous post, I am going to make it short and sweet. There are three important basic rules to remember when engaged in public speaking, (1) Podiums should always be avoided, (2) Always make eye contact with individuals to help make the audience/room seem smaller, and (3) keep in mind you are the boss and questions are no problem because you have a team of experts to help you. There you have it "Public Speaking 101."

Negotiating Skills

One of the keys to negotiating is knowing what to say or what phrases matter. Knowing your sphere of influence is equally important. Simply put. It means who is already on the same page and who can you easily turn to your point of view.

Let's break the sum of negotiating in to three easily understandable parts or phrases.

How did you come up the that figure? This will put the ball back in to your opponents lap. This should allow you to gain some thoughts to where they are on the topic subject.

Let me check with... This is a great phrase because it keeps you from saying yes before you should. It requires you to check with the boss, husband or wife keeping you out of hot water.

Give me a call, if things change. This again puts the ball and burden back in their lap.

Ok, there you have it. Negotiating 101. This is the second skill that if mastered could bring you much success in the future. Now, this maybe your only one of the three skills you need to work on. So, join a negotiating club like The Art of Negotiating, purchase self-help books or audio courses that focus on negotiating. The small investment may be the most important one for your future business success.

FREE Should Mean FREE

Hello Again,

So, yesterday I gave out some FREE information about this new
offer being made by Derek Gehl. Who is offering a three step video
series about eBay. Which I thought was pretty cool. But then I get
an email from a fellow blogger who asked the question was it
really free?

So, I asked what do you mean? Anyways, after several
back and forth emails I finally got the point. In a nut shell
yes. This product that Derek is offering is 100% free of all
old, unuseable, rehashed crap from last year and beyond!

Come on, think about it how many different list are you on...

I just received another one of those so-called "free" report
offers in my email. Something about multiplying my income...
blowing away my competition... yadda yadda...

So like a fool, I go check out the report, and it's nothing but
a barely concealed sales pitch for some lame new product that
I'm not even interested in!

Worst thing?

offers are we going to have to put up with? It's like everybody
and his or her dog is putting out this useless garbage.

goal is to anger or alienate your customers and subscribers, and
KILL your chances of developing a strong relationship with them).

And here's the thing... if these jokers understood how to REALLY
do free, their customers and subscribers would see them as heroes,
rather than dummies.

Identity Theft - Part 2. The History of...

The history of identity theft crimes have been around forever, think of spies, so not becoming one of those victims listed in the history of identity theft crimes will take knowledge and incorporating some common sense when dealing with your personal information. The following is a brief history lesson on identity theft.

Forget guns and violence. Being a criminal nowadays is a matter of getting the right information without being found and using that to their advantage. That is how the identity theft process works.

Identity theft is a crime wherein another person obtains and uses another person's personal data for purposes of fraud or deception. But the main purpose is for gaining money and finances to purchase goods or services.

Personal information being stolen borders from names, birth dates, social security number and/or a driver's license number. The more extreme and cruel cases is when your financial identity like credit card, bank account and phone-card numbers, are the ones being used.

It can be noted that your personal information allows thieves to profit at your expense. This is in contrast to your fingerprints that cannot be easily copied or stolen. In many cases, victims are not even aware that their identity has been stolen until maybe some months or years later.

The consequences of being an identity theft victim are also quite devastating. You will be faced with the need to close bad credit accounts, trying to repair them or open new ones.

In the process, you not only need time to get on with all of these accounts but also enough money to try and pay up debts accumulated with the hope of opening new ones.

As long as you have not finished all the requirements and have not cleared you name ei. proving to each debtor who you are to their satisfaction, you can be denied jobs, loans, education, housing, and transportation. Your credit goes simply in the tank. For worst case scenarios, you can even get arrested for the crime you did not commit much less know about.

The trauma that can result from the experience is not easily forgotten too. The experience of thousands of victims is that it often takes months, even years, to recover.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, identity theft is the fastest growing crime in the US alone. The fact that more and more people are reporting cases of identity theft and how they have become victims can attest to conclusions made by that department.

In the year 2002, 10 million people became victims of this crime. And an estimated 27.3 million Americans have been reported to be victims of the different forms of identity theft during the past 5 years.

Even financial and business institutions are not spared. Billions of dollars worth of losses have also been noted which can be attributed to identity theft.

Identity theft is the number two most reported crime to the federal government.

These numbers are enough to make you consider identity theft as a serious crime that is getting more and more rampant everyday. Ever since this kind of crime had been noted in the early 1970's, new laws have come on the books. But however extreme the consequences are, there is really no getting through the minds of these thieves. The crime is just to easy to commit and get away with for long periods of time and in some cases forever.

There are basically two forms of identity theft.

The first and most common is when someone uses your credit card information. Your information was acquired from a lost or stolen purse or wallet. It can also be because of careless handling by an employee of a company where you used the credit card to make a purchase.

The second and more dangerous form of identity theft is when someone steals your identity, and opens up credit card accounts, or cell phone accounts in your name. They can also use your social security number when getting a job or your driver's license to get a duplicate copy.

The advancing technology of today does not help any. Communications tools over the Internet are allowing criminals to think up new schemes and strategies. Besides that, identity theft can be planned and executed more easily online.

All these thieves have to do is pay a fee to an information broker to get an individual's Social Security number. Online databases also have in them address information, while an individual's mother's maiden name can be found in obituaries or other public documents. Obviously, bills are sent to a different address so they will not get to you and you will start panicking. So to avoid this from taking place in the first place, you need to educate yourself!

Understanding and having enough knowledge about identity theft can be your prevention measure. Be alert and aware so you will not be among those who have suffered the consequences of this crime.

How would you feel if you were arrested for a crime that you had not committed? How would you feel if you received a call from one of your creditors telling you to pay your credit card amounting to a particular amount, whereas you do not even use your credit card yet for that particular month?

Maybe you will answer those questions when you become a victim of identity theft.

Identity theft is said to be a perfect crime. Everybody can be a victim. Learning about the crime is the best thing that you can do right now. Remember, there are millions of victims every year.

If you have not become a victim of identity theft, then do not take any risk. Keep in mind the fact that it is nearly impossible to reinstate your life once a thief takes over your identity.

Identity theft refers to a type of crime, which someone portrays himself as another person by using the person's identifying information for various reasons. It may be for the purpose of a criminal activity or a financial gain.

The data that may be used includes the victims complete name, date of birth, and an array of closely related information like social security number, passport, license number, and credit card number.

The thief can use any of the stolen information to take over the financial accounts of his victim (bank and credit accounts), apply for loans, and purchase important items and services.

He can also obtain medical benefits, education assistance, and personal pensions by creating or forging birth certificates or immigration documents, which can be presented to the agency who gives such assistance.

Perpetrators engage in this crime wants to either mislead law enforcement as to whom the real perpetrator is, or hide from the pursuit of the authorities. Others want to have control over publicly financed benefits to which they would not be entitled if they signed up under their original name. Some use identity theft to facilitate large crimes like human trafficking and acts of terrorism.

Victims almost extend across all ages. According to Federal Trade Commission (FTC), 29 percent of identity theft complaints are from individuals of age 18-29, 25 percent from individuals of age 30-39, 21 percent from individuals of age 40-49, 13 percent from individuals of age 50-59, and the remaining 10 percent from individuals of age 60 and above. Usual targets of thieves are average-incoming individuals and those having a good credit rating.

Corporations, small enterprises, and financial institutions can also be potential victims of identity theft. Thieves can disguised themselves as top executives of their target company then making some huge withdrawal of funds, which can result to financial loss, damage to reputation and credibility, and possible closure of operation.

Modern identity theft is committed by means of gaining access to electronic data systems, forging identification documents of the victim (birth certificate or citizenship documents), getting new credit accounts, and charging existing accounts improperly.

The advancement of technology also enables perpetrators with computer hacking skills to infiltrate low-restricted public database and possibly cracking vital government database systems.

Protecting yourself from identity theft is the best way to avoid the possible aftermaths you may experience. Remember that perpetrators do not select victims. Celebrities, business executives, politicians, and ordinary citizens in varying ages can be a potential victim.

You cannot totally protect yourself from these thieves, but you can take measures by making yourself less attractive as a potential victim and hiding all the possible sources of your personal information. Here are some things that you should keep in mind to protect your identity from theft:

• When making transactions, never give out your drivers license or social security number. It should never be needed unless you are financing your purchase, like a house or car.

• Destroy unwanted previous credit card or bank statements. You should shred any sensitive documents first before throwing it to the garbage can.

• Do not place any other information beside your name and address in your checks.

• Carry personal cards that are only necessary and will be used for transactions for a particular day. Once lost, it can be possibly found by others and use it to steal your identity.

• Review your credit reports regularly. Make sure that you know all the transactions that you have made and look for any possible unauthorized transactions made to your creditors.

• Never divulge personal information on the phone. One typical modus operandi of thieves is through disguising themselves as a representative of a financial institution. He will then offer that you can update your records with them. It is possible that they are recording your conversation and eventually get all the personal information from you.

• Always clear your mailbox. If you are on a trip, ask your neighbor to clear your mailbox for you.

The threat is there. All you have to do is to have knowledge about this crime and protect yourself against it. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Grade 3 Up–The authors of the bestselling Rich Dad, Poor Dad attempt to teach financial intelligence to children through colorful cartoon images and cute animal characters. However, the lessons are more suitable for high school students. The authors tell readers to minimize their liabilities such as credit-card debt while building assets, such as starting their own businesses. Examples of the latter include charging classmates to read their comic books or for borrowing their bicycles. The lessons encourage financial intelligence, but seem to discourage readers from getting a traditional job and fail to mention the hard work and long hours involved in running one's own business. Keltie Thomas's The Kids Guide to Money Cent$ (Kids Can, 2004) and Jamie Kyle McGillian's The Kids' Money Book (Sterling, 2003) offer far better advice.–Karen T.
