3 North East stars have been named among the Top 50 Music Millionaires in Britain and Ireland. Former Tyneside teacher Sting - real name Gordon Sumner - is the highest, ranked joint-13th alongside ex-Beatle George Harrison�s widow Olivia and son Dhani. He is said to have a personal fortune of �180m, amassed through his solo work and his earlier career as frontman of The Police. Joining him in the list, at joint-42nd, is Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler, with an estimated personal wealth of �65m. He is said to be worth the same as 1960s crooner Engelbert Humperdinck, who is representing Britain at this year�s Eurovision Song Contest, and warring Oasis brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher. Sting has received a nomination for the 11th annual CMT Music Awards for his video of "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You" with Vince Gill. The awards, which honor the best country music videos, are voted on by fans through the network's website. They will be announced on a live television show on Wednesday, June 6, to take place in Nashville. Between them, they've won 36 Grammy Awards and sold over 125 million albums. Sting, Mraz and Guster Sign Pledge for Legally Harvested Wood

Adam Gardner, band member of Guster and and co-founder of the non-profit organization Reverb, testified last week at a Congressional hearing on behalf of many bands in the music industry. Gardner�s effort was to preserve the Lacey Act, which �bans the use of illegal woods, providing artists and consumers with the reassurance that their instruments are not made from these materials.� Currently proposed bills in Congress will weaken the Lacey Act. In addition to Guster, the pledge on the Reverb website has been signed by artists such as Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson, Sting, Mick Jagger, Maroon 5, Barenaked Ladies, Jason Mraz, Bonnie Raitt, and Willie Nelson. A workprint of a lost documentary about the tumultuous making of Disney's 2000 animated The Emperor's New Groove appeared on YouTube some weeks ago, but was subsequently removed. The back story, via MousePlanet's Wade Sampson, prominently features Sting. In 1997, musical performer and composer Sting was asked by the Walt Disney Company to write the music for a new animated feature called Kingdom of the Sun. It was to be directed by Roger Allers who was basking in the success of his work on The Lion King. Sting agreed, on the condition that his wife, filmmaker Trudie Styler, could document the process of the production with their own production company, Xingu Films. The Sweatbox, whose title refers to the air-conditioning-bereft screening room Walt Disney set up to evaluate his employees' work, premiered at the 2002 Toronto Film Festival but has gone virtually unseen by the public ever since. Sting and Trudie Styler attended the Broadway production of the new musical Newsies at the Nederlander Theatre this past weekend. Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies, with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and a book by Harvey Fierstein, tells the story of Jack Kelly (played by Jordan), a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged 'newsies,' who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. As posted on StingUs forum: For those who read the news about Andy Summers' new album produced by him and with the voice of Brazilian singer Fernanda Takai...Here are some recent details: Andy Summers met Fernanda Takai ( a great voice and singer of Brazil) during the recording of DVD "UK Kingdom of Ipanema" (Roberto Menescal introduced Fernanda to Andy and she performed some on the documentary). Then two years after, Andy Summers invited Fernanda Takai to Los Angeles for recording some tracks with his compositions thinking on Takai's voice (a mixing of Bossa Nova and Pop) the result was Andy produced and entire album with all his compositions with Fernanda Takai at voice, Marcos Suzano (percussion), Abraham Laboriel Senior (bass)and Andy Summers on guitar. Sting and Celine Dion are auctioning off private meet-and-greet sessions to raise money for a cancer charity. Dion has donated a pair of passes to see her perform in Las Vegas, along with a two-night stay at Caesars Palace and an exclusive meeting with the star. Sting offered up two tickets to his sold-out Back to Bass show in London, as well as a chance to hang out with the rocker backstage. Both lots are expected to raise �6,250 ($9,900) for the Love Lives On campaign benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The lineup for this year's Rainforest Fund benefit concert has been announced, and the list of artists set to perform at New York City's Carnegie Hall is an impressive one. Sting, the rock singer, is to become a grandfather. His son Joe Sumner who surprised friends by announcing that he had married his girlfriend, Kate Finnerty, will become dad later this year. Sumner, 35, who sings with the rock band Fiction Plane, married Finnerty in Big Sur, the tourist destination in California. Many of their friends learnt about the wedding on Facebook. When looking back over the years, a certain habit of Dominic Miller�s comes to the fore, which is his tendency to use progressing ordinal numbers for some of the titles of his solo albums. It all began with his debut album, "First Touch" (1995), followed later by "Second Nature" (1999), "Third World" (2004) and "Fourth Wall" (2006). Accordingly, the album to be released now bears the title "5th House". But why fifth house? "I wanted something with fifth in the title and this was the least obvious,� the guitarist explains. "Of course, I could just as well have chosen �the fifth element� or �the fifth amendment to the constitution.� In astrology, the fifth house means �the house of love and passion�.� And indeed, Miller�s latest oeuvre is a work brimming with love and passion. As in his previous releases, the musician with Argentinean-English origins has yet again invested plenty of blood, sweat and dedication in his work....

A painting commissioned by Wallsend-born pop star Sting is going back on show in the north east this weekend. The 12ft-by-8ft painting of the Tyne, with the 60-year-old�s native North Tyneside visible in the distance, is back at the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle from Saturday until May. The painting, titled Northern City Renaissance, by Stephen Hannock, depicts the river as it is today, with the Sage Gateshead and Gateshead Millennium Bridge visible. Mukti has been working with the orphanage Karm Marg to provide us with The Bag Issue. The Karm Marg orphanage was set up in 1997 to give disadvantaged kids in India shelter, care, medical support and education, plus the skills and knowledge to create an income and build them a better future � hence The Bag Issue bags. The bags are 100 per cent recycled and made from elephant dung. The children at Karm Marg have created their own label for the bags: 'Jugaad', which means "something made from nothing".
