https://www.facebook.com/stitchesfromwales2

Unlike me, who has a great aversion to Christmas and all things Christmassy, I have not only made a Natitivy scene but completed this lovely Santa Claus:

He didnt take nearly as long as the Nativity figures and he does look really jolly.

I am always better thinking of Christmas at this time of the year than in December. I don't know why but I often buy things and put them away so I dont have to do the obligatory "Christmas Shopping".
This Santa will be put away for my great grand daughter. I just hope I remember where he is when December comes!!!

Oops, looking at the photo now I realise I haven't made the buckle for his belt!!!! Will do that tomorrow...............

Today has been a lovely sunny day for a change. I am totally fed up with the rain we have had in this country for the past few months. A bit of a waste of time writing about it because every one who lives here feels exactly the same.

The poor people in parts of the USA are having extreme heat waves and sometimes I suppose that can be as bad. I would just like about one month of sun and just a little bit of warmth. My hands get blue when on the beach with the dog and I just can't get my head around the fact that it is July!!

I spent this afternoon making another lovely felt heart. This time it is in white felt and is completely covered in white buttons. I have also added just a few little pink "pearls" and some pink ribbon. I am very pleased with it and will take some pictured tomorrow. I am still loving working with felt and have so many ideas I want to try. Well, to be honest, they are not all my ideas because as I've mentioned before I get a lot of inspiration from Pinterest!!

I am wondering what will happen to our regular Tuesday market at the end of August. The hall that its held in is being pulled down and re built and as of now we haven't found another venue. It is a shame as not only is it my only regular outlet for my work but I do enjoy meeting up with all the other stall holders every week. Something will turn up no doubt.

My great grandaughter is growing up fast. She will be two at the end of this month and is so grown up and advanced for her age. She even says "thank you" instead of "ta" now!! We share a birthday which I think is marvelous. She's 2 and I'm 75!!!!!
She is starting school in September as here in Wales they have a programme whereby two year old's go to school for as many as five mornings or afternoons a week. It is not compulsory and the parents can choose how often they go. I think she is going for three days a week at first. I cant believe that they do this!!! My daughter started school when she was about 4 1/2 and I thought that was young. Chelsey has been going to three play groups a week since she was about 3 months old with her mother and I think that is why she is so advanced. She can count to twelve, knows her colours and the sounds animals make ( even a frog goes..."rivet rivet"). Next thing will be me taking my laptop round to her and asking her how to do all the things I don't understand !!!

Well , not having been on here much for the past few months, I am really catching up now alright !!!
Note to self....11.30pm...time for bed!!!
www.StitchesFromWales.etsy.com

http://www.facebook.com/stitchesfromwales2

Yes its finished at last. The Nativity scene I've been working on for weeks now. I have enjoyed every minute of it although at times I found it very frustrating. It was the sewing up of all the little bits and pieces that really got to me,

As you may know this pattern was from the Jean Greenhowe book called Christmas Special. You can buy it here

Each standing figure is approx 8" tall and has an average of ten pieces all to be sewn up!!! This is what really took the time, the sewing up.

I think it has a very good home to go to already with three little children who will take care of it forever.

I am now working on the Father Christmas in the same book for my great grand daughter.

Very unusual for me to be thinking of Christmas in July, I dont usually think of Christmas until December 25th!!!
www.StitchesFromWales.etsy.com

https://www.facebook,com/stitchesfromwales2

A very good customer of mine suggested I might want to make a nativity scene as a one off heirloom piece. She asked me last year if I made them and I said no but this year I thought "why not?"
So I bought Jean Greeenhowe's book of Christmas goodies and started.....

Well that was last week and I have been knitting like a dervish ever since - really enjoying making all the little pieces. I was pleased to see that the standing figures are appox 8" tall so non of that amigurumi stuff here then!!
Anyway today I decided that instead of knitting it was about time I put one of the figures together. Well talk about fiddly!!! It has taken me all morning to do this and there was no knitting involved as I had made every piece for this wise man. I was really surprised that it took that long but I suppose I should have known better.
Here is a picture of the wise man, bearing his gift and also one of him with a sheep:-
I have two more sheep to make along with four more standing figures, Mary sitting and also the manger complete with baby!!!! Wonder if I'll be finished for Christmas??????

This is what I came up with for my first attempt:

I am quite pleased with it and as it is in my favourite colour combination, I like it even more!!!
What do you think for a first attempt?? Also have any of you got some more ideas I could try and achieve please?? I really do need to get stuck into using up some of this felt because my addiction is rife again!!!!
I've even been thinking of buying one of those cutting machines, so I can save myself time cutting up lovely little bits but that would be a real extravagance at the moment wouldn't it?

Oh I forgot, while waiting for the delivery of the 21 different half meters of felt, I used some of my old stuff that had been lying about for years and made these OTT, VERY large corsages:

Huge aren't they?? The green one is about 7" across and the other one is about 5 1/2" !!! I saw a lady wearing one very similar last week . She had got it from a charity shop in London and only paid £1 for it!! It looked really special and I thought "I could do that!!"

Now I've caught up here with my recent activities I need to add that I have also been spending HOURS on Pinterest!!!! It is sooooooo addictive and I just love looking at all the lovely photos but most of all it has given me so many ideas for craft work. There is some beautiful and extremely clever work out there, it truly is a feast for the eyes. Why don't you take a look if you have a few spare hours!!!? But be warned it could damage your crafting time!!!
I really like this "menage" of orange buttons all piled up and then stuck on to a fine calico backing with wadding underneath. This frame is to stand only and measures approx 12" x14"
It is £16.99 plus P+P if you know anyone who would love it as a gift...

There are a few more little lovelies but I will save those for another time.

Hope you are all enjoying the Royal Bank Holiday even if the weather is not being very kind!!

still cant get the hang of this new blog layout..... do not like it at all!!

Anywho, this is what I've been creating this past week. I have got a little bit tired of just knitting and crochet so decided to go back to some of my old crafts for a change.
First, I made these pretty pin cushion topped mason jars with sewing bits and bobs inside:

I am selling these little beauties for £5.99 plus P+P . They would make lovely gifts too.

I must admit that these weren't my own idea, I found some on Pinterest and copied them !!
Pinterest is my very latest addiction,. I just love looking at all the photos that other people enjoy and some of them, beaches, pretty gardens etc etc I find very calming . Of course I am very drawn to the crafty things too!

This afternoon I decided to make this:

It is a wicker wreath form, approx 12" in diameter which I wrapped and decorated with tea and coffee dyed cotton lace. Then I added little lacy ovals with red roses in the centre. To top it off I have put a large undyed lace bow at the top and a hanging lace and red ribbon knot at the bottom. There is a hook on the back for hanging.
I am selling this for £10.00 plus P+P.

To purchase any of these please go to my facebook page and let me know which one you want. I take payment by Paypal.

There are so many different ideas going through my head at the moment!! I am still making and taking orders for these monkeys which sell at £20 each plus P+P.

I hope you have enjoyed looking at all my stuff today. I WILL get used to this new blogging formula one of these days!!!

I have been busy making two more:

now, don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed playing about with these over the past few days, but I'm not as hooked (no pun intended) on these as I am on crochet and knitting.

This is probably very good because if you could see the amount of yarn I have in my "play room", you would agree that it's not a good idea to go off course. I need to use a lot of it up before I| can justify laying out for yet another fancy.

I still have oodles of fabrics here from when I was a quiltaholic.....not sure if it will ever get used and yet there is no way I could bear to part with it.

This has always been the story of my crafty life. Get an idea, go out and buy all the supplies for said idea (and then of course the books that go with it) and after a while - some time a long while, sometimes a very short while - move on to something else.

I have lost track of all the hobbies I've done in my life and really cant imagine being any different. Sitting in front of the TV or reading endless books just doesn't do it for me. I have to have something to work on, both with my hands and my imagination.

There is yet another craft trying to get into my brain as I write. It is something I was doing about 15 or 16 years ago and it gave me great pleasure at the time. I'm still trying hard not to let it get a hold of my just yet!!!............................................

I need to say that she only has creative ideas not creative hands or patience!!!!!
She's very clever at telling me how to do this or that but put her at the work table or (god forbid ) put a needle in her hand and she's off like a shot.

Having said all that, she did make these by herself yesterday:

                                                         Aren't they lovely?

And then I made these two. The first one is sold already!!!

It is making change from knitting and crocheting, although I do still pick up a crochet hook in the evenings as it's easier to do that in front of the TV.

Probably when my daughter goes back I will sit in my "play room" and make more frames.
I think I will have to change my name soon though......no stitching in Wales for this hobby!!!

It was extremely hard work, both physically and mentally. But hey, I made it that way. I could just have put on a simple craft fair, but no, I have to take it one step further and set a target in my mind of raising £1000.
So I decided to have a Grand Raffle which not only meant getting a licence from the council, but also getting in some prizes.

I used the license which the Charity has from Bridgend County council so that part was easy. As for the prizes, well I wrote loads of begging letters to local businesses and also knocked on the doors of lots of local shops etc. I had to do all this in splurges when I felt brave enough to beg!!!
I had quite a mixed response to all those letters, most of them surprised me, either by their generosity or their total lack of interest.

However by the time of the event I was actually turning offers of prizes away as there were already twenty four and I thought it would take forever to call all the numbers in the draw.

On the day, lots of the stall holders very generously put prizes on the raffle table and we ended up with over 35!!!!

The easiest part of the whole thing was "selling" the tables available in the hall. They all went really quickly and there were over 23 different craftspeople there.

Unfortunately there weren't all that many cunstomers but I really dont know what I could have done differently to have improved that. Lots of the stallholders did very well, but I know at least two of them didnt sell anything. What to do???

The Healing The Wounds mascot, Dylan Draig , came all the way from Bridgend to make an appearance and went out twice around the village with a collection bucket.

Also, because of all the rules and regulations on the street collection license, I hired an Easter Bunny outfit , just to draw attention to the collection bucket.

Apparently Dylan Draig and the Easter Bunny met up on the beach and had a "dance off" which caused quite a stir.

This is the hall taken from the stage end

                                                                 Dylan Draig

The outcome of the whole event was very good indeed. It raised a total of £1853.12 for the Charity.
More people coming in every week, but not a lot of them spending unfortunately.

I am supposed to be cleaning the house this afternoon ready for my daughter's visit, but hey ho, not a lot's got done and it's not as though I am expecting the Queen of England!!!!

The hot sunny weather has now gone back to normal, rain and very chilly, which is a bit of a shock after two weeks of sunshine.

I have the keys and all the instructions ready for the Charity Craft Fair on Saturday, in aid of www.healingthewounds.co.uk and there is very little more I can do except collect the rest of the raffle tickets that are out.

I will be in the hall on Friday evening to set it all out, then at 8am Saturday I will be there to get it all started....!!!

These are what I've been making this week,. They are made in cotton yarn which I think has much stronger colours than acrylics and I do like working with it.
There are 24 raffle prizes to be won!!!! So far I have the monies in for over 700 tickets and there are still lots and lots of books out with various friends who are selling them for me.

Today I went to my vets to pick up five books of tickets that I had left there about a month ago. I thought I would be doing exactly that, picking up the tickets......but no I picked up £25 as they had sold them all!!! I was really pleased and secretly wished I'd left TEN books!!!

There will be 23 different crafts people there many of whom havent shown their work in Saundersfoot before.

The ladies from the local churches are taking over the kitchen and serving refreshments all day, giving the profits to the charity.

Two local papers are doing write ups next week and four radio stations have all the info. What with all that and all the posters that are around and about, if no one turns up, it won't be for the want of trying!!!

Remember all profits are going to the charity www.healingthewounds.co.uk a Welsh based charity whose aim is to help servicemen/women and their families to deal with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

It hasn't been an easy task that I set myself and at times I have found it both very tiring and also stressful having to "beg" for donations and raffle prizes, but all in all it has been a good and worthwhile experience. That doesn't mean I will be glad when it's all over!!!!!

Please, let this beautful weather stay until April 7th so there will be LOADS of holiday makers in the village looking for something to do when the beach gets too crowded!!!!!

Another little blanket that I picked up and put down in between making other things is this large Granny square. This pattern is always is always a "mindless" project but sometimes surprises me when its completed!!

There are refreshments available all day and it is free entry too!!!

well it is ages and ages since I've been on here. Life just seems to take over.
First a car accident on Boxing Day ( still not sorted) then my grandson's house flooded this week.......

But I have been busy making some of these little things

Cute aren't they???? I call them "ugly but cuddly"..............some knitted , some crocheted.

Then I found a free pattern for ice creams. These are all knitted and such fun to make. I found the pattern here and they are so life like.....

The Easter craft fair at the Regency Hall Saundersfoot on April 7th is coming on really well. I am selling lots of raffle tickets with help from some of the stall holders and also some friends, so I'm sure it will be very a profitable day for who do an amazing job for our troops and their familes.
If you are in the area on that day, please call in and support us. There will be refreshments available too provided by the ladies of the church.
www.StitchesFromWales.etsy.com
I have been phoning and writing to so many local businesses trying to get either donations of raffle prizes or donations of money to help towards the cost of the hall and advertising etc.

The ladies from the local church have been wonderful and offered to "take over" the kitchen. They will supply all the tea and sandwiches and donate all the profits to the charity.

I have sold all the space in the hall to some wonderful craftsmen and women, which is great.

I am also planning to have an Easter Bonnet Competion for the children in the hope that the parents who bring them will just have to buy something lovely!!

So its getting there slowly but surely. My biggest dilemma at the moment is whether or not to spend some of my own money and get a really good first prize for the raffle so I can then get tickets printed and start selling them NOW. That would raise far more money than just cloakroom tickets sold on the day, but I'm a bit worried about spending too much money. Sort of a chicken and egg problem.

I wonder if anyone reading this has done a similar thing and can give me some tips?

If I wait for replies to my begging letters there might not be enough time to sell loads of tickets.....oh dear what to do????

This really is a worthwhile charity but I suppose the local businesses get fed up with all the charitable requests they get and as we all know times are hard.

I just hope I can raise a worthwhile amount.....................April 7th will soon come around.....

I didnt realise how long its been since I wrote on here. But |I wish you all a very Happy and Healthy 2012.

I hope you all survived all the Christmas festivities. I had a lovely time with my family all visiting.
Tomorrow will be lonely, as my daughter, who is the last one to go, takes the train back to London. Then I will be alone again but I must get on with all my crafty works and get some stock made ready for the spring markets.

If anyone knows of any craft fairs within striking distance of West Wales, please let me know.

Here is a picture of my first daffodils . They started to bloom at least two weeks before Christmas!!Then the

later ones come into bloom so I have a lovely display for at least two or three months. One of the pleasures of living in Wales!!

All I have to do now to "get rid" of Christmas is eat up all the bits and pieces and drink all the wine/booze!!! hic........

Happy 2012 to one and all
xxx

I have been very busy with all the Christmas markets. Ther last one for me is tomorrow at the Queens Hall Narberth if any of you are in the area.

Then I will concentrate on making things for spring and summer so I can have a bit of a stock back up ready.

I think I will make lots of toys especially the monkeys as they are very popular.

also the flowers again of course as they are so spring like.
Then there is Peter Rabbit:

and Daisy Dolly !!

So all in all it will be good not to be making hats and scarves for a while.....

I hope you all have a great Christmas and a very happy and healthy New Year.xxx

I have been away for a few days and before that seemed to be so busy I didnt know what I was doing half the time.

I did try something new in crochet but havent had time to take photos yet so you will all have to wait I'm afraid.

It is a new double sided blanket that I havent done before. A lady came to the Tuesday market quite a few weeks back now and explained it to me. I could understdand what she meant so I invited her to the house to show me.

She was on holiday here but still took the time to call in and demonstrate it.
By the time I got around to having a go, I had forgotten how to do it and only had some scribbled notes and a very little demonstration piece to go by.

After spending the whole evening and also most of the next day while at the craft fair, I conquered it. It is looking good so far but haven really done much.
Maybe over the Christmas holidays I can get more done, take photos and show it off.

Please be patient with me!!!!!!xxxxxxxxxxxx
I dont even know what it will be yet!!! I am up to date with all my orders and have replenished the stock ready for tomorrows craft fair at the Regency Hall Saundersfoot so...........

I can just make something really new, something I havent made before???? It will be interesting to see what happens in a little while when I go through my yarns,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

This is the latest finished blanket,

Interesting how different wieght yarns make so much difference to the size.
Daddy bear was made with chunky, blue mummy bear with aran and the babies were knitted with double knit.....

arent they cute???? They make up quickly too which is an advantage as I still have four craft fairs booked before Christmas!!!

Why are they selling poppies, Mummy?
Selling poppies in town today.
The poppies, child, are flowers of love.
... ... For the men who marched away.
...
But why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy?
Why not a beautiful rose?
Because my child, men fought and died
In the fields where the poppies grow.

But why are the poppies so red, Mummy?
Why are the poppies so red?
Red is the colour of blood, my child.
The blood that our soldiers shed.

The heart of the poppy is black, Mummy.
Why does it have to be black?
Black, my child, is the symbol of grief.
For the men who never came back.

But why, Mummy are you crying so?
Your tears are giving you pain.
My tears are my fears for you my child.
For the world is forgetting again

Amen
