I agree entirely. Not only is it better, it’s practically required that you create some sort of mess to reach the end result of creativity. Sometimes that mess is physical, sometimes that mess is just part of the process in your mind.

Tribal Cat by White Willow Stitching

These “tribal” designs by White Willow Stitching have become pretty popular this year, and it’s easy to see why. They’re cute, they’re fun, you only need one or two colors of floss, and with all whole stitching and no backstitch they can be a quick run to the finish line.

This design is Tribal Cat – totally cute and full of fun little icons (including stars, hearts, and even a “dog bone,” not sure if that’s ironic or just funny)

If you’re stitching it in all one color, you’ll want to pick up at least four skeins of that selection. (The model is stitched in plain ole’ DMC 310 black thread) Stitch count is 127w x 144h.

I don’t think big-eyed Maurice is impressed — but that’s only because I won’t let him chew on my threads.

Any Day Spent Stitching is a Good Day

Finally the last week of school here! The boys will be done with school by the end of the week and then it’s summer vacation, late nights watching silly movies and sleeping in, video games and days filled with blowing bubbles and digging in the dirt.

Thanks to our friend Loretta, I found WOCS. World Of Charity Stitching. They have a Yahoo group, and they want to make all kinds of nifty things for people in long term care…

I signed up for the Brushstroke Butterfly Quilt they had on, which happens to be a pattern designed by Loretta, and I have included my version of it below. They are a kind group of people who take your cross stitched squares and sew them into quilts, walker bags, or just finish them into bookmarks. I signed up and had to be finished in about a month, but I did it and mailed it about 10 days late. They accepted it graciously and I hope to do more for them in the future. Rachel in AZ (and the other lovely ladies) is always supportive and puts a tremendous amount of work in. I’m going to add this to the StitchbyRachel Pinterest Boards too…

a Hobby Lobby store just moved into my neighborhood!

I was out running a bunch of errands the other day and where a Mervyn’s used to be I saw the big sign -

Wow, we have a Hobby Lobby. I had never been in a Hobby Lobby. I had to stop and do a quick run through, time permitting.

When I first walked in, I thought I was in the wrong store. I pictured Hobby Lobby to be ALL hobby items. What I saw were home decorating items. Like this ..

and long aisles of these home goods …

Wow! This store is huge.

So .. up against the back wall were aisles of hobby and craft products. There were no signs at the top or at the end of the aisles, so I had to walk up and down looking for the cross stitch aisle.

I found it.

There was one other small area of kits, but that was about it … disappointed, but happy to have another place for supplies.

I hadn’t seen these before and thought they were cute -

I then happened upon the fabric! I have to go back and spend more time checking out their selection.

I searched the Hobby Lobby locations and found that I have 2 within 25 miles. I also have 4 Joann’s and 4 Michaels within 25 miles. So .. I’m pretty lucky to have supplies close by!

Where do you buy your supplies? I wish I had a small craft shop to shop at and support, but I don’t know of one.. will have to do a little searching and see if I’m missing one.

I guess I was just wondering if all Hobby Lobby’s look the same inside with all of that home stuff?? I just never pictured it that way.

Brittercup’s Panda Pals is Chart of the Week

My oldest son picked our chart of the week this week; Panda Pals by Brittercup Designs. Not sure at what point panda bears turned into his spirit animal, but he loves the big fluffy creatures so I wasn’t at all surprised when he chose this design.

The model was stitched on 32 Ct. Summer Sky hand dyed Jobelan with The Gentle Art Sampler Threads in Avacado, Tarnished Gold, Slate, Flax, Shutter Green, Tea Rose, and Raven, along with Steel Grey Kreinik #4 Braid (010HL). DMC alternates are given as 471, 830, 415, 422, 469, 3688, 310. Stitch Count on design is 159w x 76h

January Snowflake stitched by Shaunterria

Shaunterria used a really interesting finishing technique with her snowflake finish; she used some iron-on vinyl on the back and cut it out so it is flat. Interesting option for those who don’t want to do sewing and stuffing of all their ornaments this year

Blog Hops Will Return Over the Summer [and some random photos]

A few people have asked why the blog hops stopped. Honestly, just life getting in the way. We’ve been so busy with work, school, soccer, so on and etcetera….

Once soccer season and school are over the blog hopping will get back to normal. I expect our next hop to be June 15th. In the meantime enjoy these photos I managed to snap of the kids (getting them to hold still long enough for a photo is seriously hard!) …

Lucas received some cool new golf stuff for his 15th birthday over the weekend (new golf bag and a new hybrid #3 club)

Ethan (my youngest son) would like you to see his “oh realllllly” face…

and our silly kitty Moe-Moe thinks my Nightmare Before Christmas fleece belongs to him, and he is terribly wrong…

That’s all I’ve got today …. What’s going on in your world?
