Twisted Tiles is our second chart series with Northern Expressions Needleworks, starting in 2017. This series is a more advanced take on our small band samplers, with a different shape and a whole lot more bling! We will be offering charts, thread packs and bead backs for this series in a vibrant or subtle/samplery colorway option. This weekend only you can save 15% on the whole series in the shop. We are also now accepting registrations for the series subscription. Our second new chart series for 2017 is Quaker Cakes, a 12-chart series featuring a quaker-themed birthday cake for each month. Modern Folk, our first kit in the StitchyBox Presents Hands On Design series, is now available in the shop! Cathy and I had a hard time trying to decide between the two final choices for the thread and fabric palettes, so we decided to offer two - Summer Light, stitched on white linen, and Indian Summer, stitched on Violet Mist linen. 

The kit includes just about everything you'll need to stitch up and finish your mattress-style pin cushion (you'll just need to supply a needle and a bit of fusible interfacing) AND the bonus scissor fob as well! There are actually four little charts in this kit - you'll select two to be the top and bottom of your pin cushion, and can use the other two as the front and back of your scissor fob. We recommend stitching the fob over 1 to ensure you don't run out of thread, but if you are willing to switch some of your thread colors around, you can also stitch it over 2.

Yesterday was the beginning of something new and fun on Instagram - #SundayStitchPeek! With inspiration from Tracy of Ink Circles, and the fact that my designer friends like to humor me, a brand new hashtag has been born. Each Sunday we'd love to see designers, dyers, and other makers in the needlework industry show off a sneak peek of an upcoming release or an ongoing project, using the hashtag #SundayStitchPeek. This week's project comes from JBW's Red Stocking card-sized chart, which actually has 3 different little stocking designs for you to choose from - I went with the Scandinavian one, on the right.

Project Materials:

Chart: JBW's Red Stocking Collection, available from your favorite needlework store

Fabric: 32 count antique white with silver sparkles evenweave from Fabric Flair, available in the StitchyBox shop and from your favorite needlework store

Thread: Spiked Punch, limited edition GAST cotton floss only available in the StitchyBox store

Project Notes:

This is a great little chart that can obviously be used with just about any thread/fabric combination. I screwed up on the right reindeer's right-most leg (should be 2 stitches, not three), but I can either compesate for it by expanding out that bottom section a bit more, or by masking it when I finish the little guy.

This week's project idea is Christmas Wreath, the very first chart from our Stitch It Up add-on subscription, designed by Lindsay Lane Designs:

The Stitch It Up charts are designed to go along with items found in each StitchyBox shipment, but you could always easily pull threads and fabric from your stash to stitch this little chart up. Our two models (above) give you some ideas for personalization - on the blue model (left), I replaced the stitched ribbon in the wreath with a small bow made of actual silk ribbon from the Royal Academy shipment, and "stitched" the snowflakes with beads. On the white model, I added a Hillcreek handdyed button (from our Buttoned Up add-on subscription) and stitched the snowflakes in gold kreink metallic thread, so they wouldn't disappear against the white fabric. 

Christmas Wreath is available in the shop, along with lots of the supplies we used to stitch these models.
