Week of 03/12/10 Beer Tastings

Today, from 4PM to 6:30PM the Wine and Cheese Place in Clayton will be hosting a tasting featuring these beers: Goose Island Demolition, Jurand Extra, Jurand Premium, Grieskirchner Weisse Pint, Laughing Dog CSB, and Laughing Dog DogZilla. Additional information can be found at their blog.

Cory from deVine Wines and Spirts, located at 2961 Dougherty Ferry Rd, holds a beer tasting every Wednesday evening from from 5PM to 8PM. Each Wednesday will offer up a few new beers for you to taste. Swing on by and check it out.

City Gourmet will be holding a New Belgium tasting this Saturday, March 13th from 1-3pm. Available to taste will be the Explorer Series and some of the Lips of Faith line. As an added bonus, you’ll also get a chance to enjoy snacks from Billy Goat Chips.

Brandt’s Beer Fest Every Saturday in March

Brandt’s Cafe, in the University City Loop, will be putting on a Beer Festival every Saturday this March. Brandt’s will be offering up over 80 different beers from around the globe to try each Saturday including 25 different Belgian beers.

This will be taking place on March 13th, 20th, and 27th of this month from 12-5PM. Don’t currently have a list of what beers they’ll be trying, but I’ll see if I can get one soon.

Each session will cost $30 per person with a pre-paid reservation or $35 at the door. This entitles you to unlimited 3oz samples during the 12-5PM tasting. Call 314-954-2326 for more details.

Capital Brewery Looks to be Returning to Missouri

Big shout out to Dave Nelson from Beer, Wine and Whisky for picking this information up, but it looks like Capital Brewery out of Middleton, WI looks to be returning back to Missouri after a long hiatus.

Capital’s claim to fame is brewing lager beers, which in my opinion takes a lot of skill to do well. Here’s a list of what was registered with the state:

Contest: Two Passes to the 2010 Stout & Oyster VIP Party

As you may now be aware, Schlafly holds a VIP party the night before the Stout and Oyster Festival. It gives Schlafly a chance to preview the 25,000 fresh oysters they bring in before it makes it to the general public the next day. Would you like to attend such a special event? Well, here’s your chance.

Schlafly VP, Dan Kopman, has given me two passes to the Schlafly Stout and Oyster Festival, which is held on Thursday, March 18th. If you’re interested in attending just email contest@stlhops.com with Stout and Oyster as the subject. I’ll randomly pick one winner next Wednesday, March 17th at 9AM. A couple of quick notes:

03/10/10 Mattingly Peek-a-Brew Line Up

The Mattingly Brewing Company may now be producing full scale productions of beer, but that doesn’t stop them from showing off what’s yet to come. Tonight, Head Brewer Drew Huerter and Assistant Brewer Jerid Saffell will be offering their Elderberry Irish Ale.

Be sure to head out tonight and taste some of Drew and Jerid’s excellent beer.

2010 Schlafly Stout and Oyster Festival

I know for some of you, this is the festival you’ve been most eagerly awaiting for, the Schlafly 2010 Stout and Oyster Festival. Schlafly is flying in “over 25,000 fresh oysters from both coasts and offer a tantalizing array of dishes, like gumbo, Rockefeller, fried, Po-Boy, and grilled.” They will also be offering up a raw bar as well to give you the ability to try several different vararites.

Schlafly will also be flying in some some celebrity shuckers to open up your oyster fyster than you can blink. With names like “Bimbo, Clam, Rawle, Silky Smooth and Thurman” I think you’re in for some really colorful characters.

Oh, and then there’s the beer. Schlafly will be offering their Nitro Irish, Oatmeal and Kaldi’s Coffee Stout. You’ll be able to combine some of your favorite Schlafly stouts with the briny delight of fresh Oysters.

Schlafly’s festival will be on start on Friday, March 19th from 5:00 p.m.-Midnight and continue on Saturday, March 20th when it will run from Noon-Midnight. Stay tuned tomorrow for a VIP Dinner contest!
