      <title>One to One Tuition Coordinator</title>
      <description>Salary: £42,227 - £49,129

The School Improvement Service is looking for an individual to lead on the implementation of one to one tuition across Stockport’s schools. One to one tuition places will be made available to substantial numbers of targeted pupils in Key Stages 2 and 3. The post will enable the Local Authority to support schools in developing effective practice and to quality assure and evaluate the programme.

The work will include:          

Supporting identified schools which are delivering one to one tuition; 
Providing advice and support to raise standards particularly in the use of personalised learning and intervention programmes; 
Monitoring and evaluating the impact of the one to one tuition programme; 
Supporting the management of one to one tuition budgets; 
Providing advice, support and professional development for one to one tutors; 
Being the first point of contact for the National Strategy for one to one tuition programme and to liaise with other external agencies.
You will need:

graduate or equivalent QTS with experience of successful teaching; 
a good knowledge and understanding of interventions and strategies to support underachieving groups; 
experience of team building and working collaboratively with other professionals; 
experience of monitoring, collating and analysing performance tracking data; 
excellent interpersonal and communication skills; 
experience of managing change; 
the ability to encourage and motivate.

      <title>Community Safety Officer - Preventing Violent Extremism</title>

The Safer Stockport Partnership leads the fight against crime, drugs and disorder in Stockport. Forward thinking and innovative, we’re changing the way local services work together to reduce crime. The Community Safety Unit also includes Drug Action Team, Anti-Social Behaviour Action Team and Rangers Service.

We are looking for a person with enthusiasm and an interest in reducing crime and in particular the Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) agenda.

As a Community Safety Officer leading on the PVE themed portfolio you will work closely with police and other partners to develop strategies and policies around the PVE action plan.  

A key member of the Community Safety Team you will also have responsibility for developing and supporting a local neighbourhood crime and disorder partnership team.

You will play a crucial role in forging close links with people from a range of different public and voluntary sector services, and ensure that we are effective in delivering and measuring real change for the better. You will represent the Community Safety Unit in a range of inter-agency and public meetings.

With well developed IT, organisational, and communication skills, you will interpret and explain statistical information and deliver well informed recommendations. Experience of working in partnership situations and knowledge of the PVE agenda is essential.

The School Improvement Service is looking to appoint a high quality adviser to further strengthen our already effective team and coordinate our work around closing the gap and breaking the link.

The work will include:

• Leading and managing local and national projects focused on closing the attainment and achievement gaps for children and young people at all Key Stages
• Developing, writing and monitoring an action plan which identifies the School Improvement Service strategy for closing the gap, clearly linked to the Service Plan.
• Work with colleagues to implement identified intervention strategies and support the monitoring and evaluation of impact on closing the gap. 
• Liaise effectively with the Senior Adviser: Inclusion to ensure that actions are focused on the appropriate groups of CYP identified through rigorous analysis.
• Be the key link for the School Improvement Service with Local Partnerships in order to ensure a consistent focus on closing the gap.
• Work with identified schools to develop strategies that impact on closing any identified attainment and achievement gaps.

You will need:

• Recent successful experience of senior leadership in any phase of education
• A proven track record in school self evaluation and school improvement.
• The ability to support, monitor and challenge schools.
• Excellent data analysis skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills together with the ability to work in a team and across teams.
• The ability to effectively lead and manage projects 
• Be fully committed to working with other agencies

Stockport Homes is an innovative, modern arms length housing organisation (ALMO), created in October 2005 employing over 370 staff and managing 11,500 properties across the borough of Stockport.

We have a 3 star ‘excellent’ rating following an audit commission inspection, which has given us a multi million pound investment programme to invest in our housing stock.

The Customer Finance Team is responsible for the collection of rents, service charges and arrears from Local Authority Housing Tenants. 

The Team is now recruiting a Water Metering Project Officer who will be responsible for identifying, contacting and assisting customers where the installation of a water meter or conversion to an alternative method of charging for water would be financially beneficial.

The Officer would also be responsible for dealing with day to day water charge enquiries and also for identifying customers who may qualify for assistance from the United Utilities Trust Fund.

With previous experience of water rates charging mechanisms, candidates should have excellent communication and customer care skills. A meticulous approach and the ability to prioritise demands are also required. The successful candidate will also need to have a car and full, clean driving licence.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and conscientious Customer Involvement Assistant to assist the team with developing a range of ways to get customers involved in giving their views on the services they receive.

Duties will include providing support to existing customer groups and researching good practice to set up new structures.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to deal with a range of people, whilst remaining sensitive to the needs of customers.

With strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise a varied and busy workload, you will be able to work on your own initiative and work flexibly. Occasional evening/weekend work may be required.

This post is an excellent opportunity for someone with enthusiasm and experience to join the Welfare Rights Central Team, part of the Council’s Stockport Advice service, which also includes Debt Advisers and Advice and Information Officers. The service has the Quality Mark at Specialist level for benefits advice, a supportive team, good staff training programme, flexible working hours and offices that are fully accessible.

This Welfare Rights Officer post is part of a team giving specialist advice to members of the public about complex benefits and tax credit problems, and representing them at appeal tribunals.

As part of  an integrated service with Connexions Personal Advisers and Youth Workers, successful applicants will support the Local Authority’s actions to improve attendance and ensure effective communication between young people, parents, carers, school  staff and other agencies.

Applicants should ideally be qualified to NVQ level 3 Working with Children &amp; Families, or equivalent, or have had extensive experience of working with young people in an education, health or youth work setting.

Candidates will be appropriately sensitive and assertive, have excellent negotiating skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues and clients. You will act on behalf of the Local Authority regarding relevant legislation, principally in respect of attendance at school.

Applicants must be familiar with and understand the requirements of Working Together to Safeguard children and be able to write accurate reports,case notes and maintain  files to a high standard. You will be professionally supported through regular supervision.

      <title>Common Processes Assistant</title>

We are looking for a dynamic and creative individual with excellent presentation and communication skills to cover the post of Common Processes Assistant on a part time basis for nine months.

This role is crucial to the ongoing implementation of the Common Assessment Framework and Child in Need process across Stockport, and works extensively on a multi-agency basis to provide consultation, support and packages of training to schools, health colleagues and a wide variety of other services.

Links with the new Local Partnerships are also being developed and Common Processes provides the means for frontline staff to work together in an integrated way.

In addition the post has an important role in promoting the quality and consistency of the use of the Common Assessment Framework through established quality assurance processes.  

The successful candidate will demonstrate their experience of multi-agency working especially in respect of the safeguarding of children.

They will have a good understanding of quality assurance work, and experience of delivering training.  They will be able to work effectively on a multi-agency basis, managing change and using initiative in addressing issues that arise.

The post will report to the Common Processes Manager and will on occasion deputise for that post.

Good supervision and support will be available, together with the opportunity to develop new skills within the role. This is an excellent secondment opportunity available from September 2009 until May 2010

      <title>Apprentice Revenues and Benefits Officers</title>
      <description>Salary: £9,000 - £11,000

Aged 16 - 18 and looking for an alternative to college or university? 

Why not train as a Revenues and Benefits Officer? 

We are looking to recruit a number of people on 2 year Apprenticeships to train as a Housing and Council Tax Benefits Assessment Officer or a Revenues Officer.

The successful candidates will be capable of fast tracking through an NVQ level 2 in Customer Care within 6 months whilst undergoing training and then will immediately move on to work for the NVQ level 3 in Revenues and Benefits (the apprenticeship framework for this fairly new NVQ is not yet in place but will be by the time you have completed the customer care NVQ) 

This is a complex and challenging area of work but you will learn how to deal with customers and all aspects of calculating Housing and Council Tax Benefit entitlement or Revenue Collection.

Demand for qualified Revenue and Benefit Officers is high and further study beyond level 3 is possible to achieve professional qualifications.  


- You will need good literacy and numeracy skills 
- Be happy to work quickly and accurately under pressure to achieve targets 
- Work well with other members of the team 
- Have good customer care skills  

Applications will be dealt with through the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) Shared Services group. Successful candidates are likely to be recruited by the Authority in which they live or with a partner company.     

Salaries will be dependant on salary scales at the Local Authority where appointment is made with starting salaries in the region of 9K to 11K rising above this with progression through the apprenticeship.    

Progression through to the second year will depend on assessment.

Salaries for qualified Assessment Officers posts start from around £17K.

Tests will take place on 31st July and 4th August 2009.

Reporting to the Financial Accountant, the main responsibilities of the post include processing debtor invoices, supplier invoices and credit notes to the company’s financial system accurately and in a timely manner.

Responsibilities also include regular reconciliations of supplier statements and issuing petty cash to authorised personnel and to ensure correct tax compliance of all documentation, and acting as the first point of contact for both internal and external suppliers and customers.

The successful candidate will be experienced in the above areas, enthusiastic, motivated and have the ability to manage a busy workload in a fast-paced environment.

The required applicants will have excellent interpersonal and performing skills, as well as being an enthusiastic and dynamic teacher.

You must have a passion for widening access to music for all children, have a proven track record of excellence and the ability to motivate young people to achieve their potential.

Pay is on the unqualified teachers’ pay scale dependent on experience, currently £19,057 - £24,453 pro rata, with additional work in the Music Centre being paid separately.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to lead, manage and motivate a busy specialist team responsible for providing a co-ordinated, timely and effective response to issues of nuisance and ASB. 

The post holder will also be responsible for all aspects of investigations including interviews, surveillance, and the provision of accurate and thorough reports and witness statements. 

You will have experience in tackling antisocial behaviour by enforcement within housing or a similar field, as well as experience of multi-agency working. 

With knowledge of the legislative tools available to social housing providers to tackle ASB, as well an understanding of court procedures and legal processes, you will be able to carry out thorough and systematic investigations to a successful conclusion.  

You will also need excellent administrative, IT and organisational skills, in order to complete work to tight timescales. 

Interview date:    14th &amp; 15th July 2009.

      <title>Casual Interpreters</title>
      <description>Salary: £12-£18/hour   

The Ethnic Diversity provides interpreters for clients in Stockport and the surrounding areas.  We are looking to increase our list of casual interpreters to broaden the range of languages that we offer.

Ideally candidates need to have an accredited interpreting qualification at level 3 or above.  However, in the case of languages where the service has a shortage, a level 2 accredited interpreting qualification may be acceptable. 

Please note that the Ethnic Diversity Service runs a level 3 interpreting training course – for more details go to the Ethnic Diversity Service website.

      <description>Stockport Continuing Education Service provides courses for adults, young people, families and communities across the borough of Stockport. 

We are currently looking to update our list of sessional tutors to offer new courses and to meet the demand for existing ones. 

We are looking to recruit qualified &amp; experienced tutors to deliver safeguarding training to the Councils workforce. Individuals must be available to teach in both the daytime and the evening.

Tutors will be expected to deliver training in safeguarding to promote the welfare of children and that creates an ethos which values working collaboratively with others, respects diversity (including culture, race and disability), promotes equality, is child-centred and promotes the participation of children and families.

      <title>Sessional Assessors*</title>
      <description>Stockport Continuing Education Service provides community learning, and vocational skills training for young people and adults in a range of areas including Childcare, ITQ, Horticulture, Hospitality, Customer Service and Leadership and Management.

The Service provides access programmes for learners who require additional support to enter employment and/or training, (Entry to Employment). 

In addition the Service works across a range of Service Providers within the Council to support the workforce development Strategy.

The main purpose of the post is to support the Curriculum Manager – Skills in the delivery and development of our Customer Service and Leadership and Management awards. 

The successful candidate will have a track record in working within a leadership and management role in a customer focused organisation. 

The candidate will need to be highly motivated and demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills. 

It is essential that they hold training and assessor qualification at level 3 and can demonstrate recent and relevant experience of delivering Customer Service and Leadership and Management Awards.

There is an opportunity within the Landscape Design &amp; Development Team in Stockport’s award winning Parks and Recreation Department for a competent landscape professional who will take schemes from initial design inception to completion on site, offering real potential for job and customer satisfaction.

There is a varied workload within a borough benefiting from both urban and rural environments, including parks and open spaces, playgrounds, schools, public buildings, and sports, heritage and arts projects. You will be working closely with clients, local communities, council officers and agencies. You will also be asked to comment on landscape related development control matters and to prepare bids for external grant funding.

You must be competent in the use of Autocad 2002/2004 with good design, technical and project management skills, together with contract experience and the ability to work under your own initiative. The ideal candidate will be part 4 qualified or Part 3 with relevant experience and a desire to reach part 4. A full clean driving licence is required.

We are looking for a highly motivated, positive and co-operative person, to share the benefits of working in a friendly office with flexitime working arrangements. Further salary progression up to £29,727 is subject to continuous exceptional performance.
