Market Silly Season

Well folks, I nearly skipped this update, with markets already rattled by midterm politics, wars, and rising energy costs.

Add to that the never-ending news cycle and financial pundits offering this strategy and that, often contradicting one another.

Sector rotations between energy, technology, consumables, and financials can cause one sector to drop precipitously while another jumps higher like a rabbit.

We've seen this in the multiweek selloff in chip stocks, while consumable stocks offering higher dividends attracted investors seeking refuge from risk in the comfort of dividends.

However, in these fickle times, when people seem to have no firm conviction in anything but self-preservation, nothing appears totally "safe."

Even gold and silver are hardly safe from near-term trading volatility. And the miners? They seem to be little more than pawns in the hands of fancy-pants money managers in New York City.

Without attempting some grand explanation for all of the above, I'll just call the effect "Market Silly Season."

And when it comes to my money, I'm not getting too silly.

I'm holding more dry powder while maintaining some small "test positions" in stocks I believe are worth watching.

Why? Because certain stocks have characteristics that could allow them to stand out, and even outperform the broader market, if they perform as they appear to be "set up" to do.

That said, I'll follow my instincts with a "not too much, if any" approach to stocks that keep meandering within a trading range, with little market conviction behind them just yet.

It's also up to these companies to answer market doubts by actually performing. And when they do, they need to provide clear guidance that doesn't spook investors into suddenly pulling the rug out from under their stocks. Good earnings alone aren't enough if management then undermines investor confidence with ambiguous or vague guidance.

After all, stocks worth watching don't necessarily require buying shares. Some aren't ready for that just yet. Others might merit buying just ONE share as a small test position in a Market Silly Season where conviction is hard to find in much of anything.

Here at the Jones Report, I've presented no personal illusions that this market can be trusted not to suddenly fall into corrective territories. That is exactly why we say maybe 'some' and 'not too much,' and even just one share at a time, over time — if any.

With that preamble behind us, let's venture into the choppy waters beneath the ever-changing skies of Stock Talk...

Stock Talk

Let's start with an example. Take Lam Research (LRCX).
Lam reported strong earnings, but management then raised concerns about "supply chain constraints" without clearly explaining what those constraints were or their potential impact. The stock took a hit, dragging much of the semiconductor sector with it.
Good earnings followed by vague corporate doublespeak. Not exactly a confidence builder in an already nervous market.
And that's the problem with this market. Investor conviction is so fragile that even strong earnings can't protect a stock when uncertainty creeps into the conversation. Traders seem to be looking for reasons to sell rather than reasons to stay.
I first highlighted Lam and its excellent prospects here at the Jones Report when it was trading in the $60s. Now it's just a small "test position" of ONE or two trading shares to keep the "feel" of the trading action.
After last week? Dang, glad it was just a test.
So watching stocks, perhaps holding a few small test positions while keeping more dry powder, is one way to survive Market Silly Season. Especially if mounting economic pressures and world conflicts add up to a more serious market correction.
Ultimately, it's up to you, as traders and investors, to study the possibilities and choose your own course.
For the Jones Report, I'll continue watching a list of prospects that I believe have the potential to outperform over time.

The following is not a comprehensive Jones Watchlist, but here are some of the more recent stocks mentioned with a hint of the sentiment.

SKM — Holding some shares. Watching a potential catalyst associated with a future Anthropic IPO.
GFS — Semiconductor plants in the US and global presence. The "chips of everything."
NVTS — California-based power semiconductor designer collaborating with NVIDIA on data-center power efficiency and advancing electrical grid technology.
LRCX — Watching. Perhaps a small test position.
KLAC — Watching. Perhaps a small test position.
KMB — Consumer staples company offering a dividend.
MO — Consumer staples/tobacco company with a good dividend and growing smoke-free products.
KGC — Gold miner subject to Wall Street whims. Just watching.
HL — Silver miner. Just watching.
ONCY — Speculative biotech penny stock. Holding just 1,000 speculative shares, with some guarded conviction. The stock is trading under a buck, and I'm awaiting initial colorectal cancer (CRC) trial data, with hopes of seeing a repeat of the encouraging results from the earlier, smaller REO-022 CRC trial. In Closing

This market feels like it's safer with more on the sidelines, perhaps smaller test positions, and more dry powder during Market Silly Season.
But markets can change, sometimes quickly. Just one major catalyst, such as a potential Anthropic IPO, could change the tone for technology stocks for the better.
The future remains to be seen.

Markets at the Crossroads? — I'll Watch, Wait and Buy Gingerly, No Rush

As the midterm elections approach, the political climate heats up in the U.S., along with inflation concerns reflected in the CPI, as high fuel prices continue to work their way through an economy heavily dependent on energy.

Meanwhile, in the Middle East, the heat continues as Iran's proxies — the Houthis in Yemen — launch missile and drone strikes against Saudi infrastructure, seemingly with impunity at this point. Saudi Arabia has become increasingly friendly toward the U.S. and hosts American military forces.

Above is a strategic geography of the Middle East — including Israel, Jordan, Iran, Yemen, and two vital international shipping chokepoints.
U.S. policy has succeeded in somewhat containing the IRGC radicals in Iran. However, they remain defiant, with a continued jihadist mindset. They act as though they are the victims. But in reality, the IRGC has been exporting terrorism for 47 years.
And America's confrontation with radical Islamic militancy goes back much further — to the days of Thomas Jefferson and Richard Somers, who confronted the Barbary pirates and their attacks on American shipping in the early 1800s.
That era of American history also brings to mind a famous declaration:
"Millions for defense, but not one cent for tribute."
Then we have Russia's aggression against the valiant Ukrainian forces defending their homeland.
If some Americans can't see the right and wrong between Islamic radicals seeking to impose Sharia law on free countries and outright Russian aggression that has resulted in more than two million military casualties since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, it is something to ponder in reflection of the current state of world affairs.
It seems further headwinds are not only affecting the markets, but they also fuel continued war and conflict. The world seems on fire. Maybe more people with a common sense of history going back to America in days of the US constitution with Ben Franklin, G. Washington and T. Jefferson (dealing with the radical Islamic's of the Barbery pirates) into the days of the World Wars to today's world with a sense of appreciation for the balance of not only the Democracy BUT also the Republic for which it stands - will prevail. Hope springs eternal.
Back to Market Talk - Let's not ignore that major market indices have attained all-time highs in 2026. BUT beneath those headline numbers, many individual stocks remain challenged, with some still trading below their highs of 2025.

Even as this note is being penned, the market is selling off some of what are considered the "AI stocks." Semiconductor stocks tied to data centers are in sell mode today, and yet they will likely be back in buy mode again.
AI won't be stopped. But these stocks have had a great run, some supported by very real earnings, such as memory chip maker Micron (MU).
The constant question is "valuations" after running hot for so long. Let's consider a few stocks we watch.
Previously, I reported on Lam Research Corporation (LRCX) as a stock to watch based on their ubiquitous use of Lam tools used for etching and deposition at many chip manufacturers in America and around the globe. I brought it up in the 60's here and it surged to over $400 just this year. It's now corrected into the high 200's in this latest chip selloff. As example, I bought just ONE share today in the high 200's.
There is another US Based tool maker - KLAC - that provides tools for testing and verification of chips. This is complementary to Lam in the chip making process. KLAC is also taking a hit today.
If and as the market corrects, in general - The coming days or months may present better opportunities to just watch and maybe pick up cheaper shares - and for some of the higher ones - maybe just ONE share over time. This assumes some dry powder is ready to be deployed as time goes on- if anybody follows this report.

An Underdog Penny Stock with Big Possibilities in the Fight Against Cancer — Pela (ONCY)

Earlier Jones Reports have explored some intriguing "what if" possibilities surrounding Oncolytics Biotech (ONCY) and its experimental cancer treatment, Pelareorep — or Pela.

Before going any further into the "what ifs," let's remind ourselves this is speculation, based on "some" encouraging scientific evidence from relatively small clinical trials. But let's also remember that many of these trials have involved patients with advanced cancers, often with few treatment options remaining.

Perhaps an urgent unmet need to help courageous cancer fighters is one reason the FDA seems to be engaging more closely with Oncolytics lately. At the same time, let's not forget that putting real money into even "some" shares of an underdog penny stock carries risk. So let's keep our expectations humble.

Pela is a naturally occurring reovirus, first studied during the polio research era of the 1950s, including work by famed polio vaccine pioneer Dr. Albert Sabin. Today, that virus is cultivated and amplified into an experimental IV treatment designed to stimulate the body's immune response against cancer.

Now, with initial results from the REO-033 colorectal cancer trial anticipated around year's end, another important "what if" is approaching.

Recall that the earlier, small REO-022 trial produced an impressive 33% objective response rate (ORR) compared with historical standard-of-care benchmarks of approximately 6–11%. The trial also reported encouraging evidence of longer survival.

Unlike the earlier trial, REO-033 is designed to compare Pela's results against an actual control group receiving standard treatment, rather than relying on historical comparisons.

Importantly, Pela has already received FDA Fast Track designation, and Oncolytics and the FDA have made significant progress toward establishing a potential pivotal expansion of REO-033, with ORR serving as a possible basis for accelerated approval.

Consider the possibilities.

What if the initial REO-033 results begin to confirm the earlier findings? Or better yet, what if they exceed them substantially?

Could such results prompt the FDA to consider an extraordinary acceleration of Pela's development and potential approval?

And here is another intriguing possibility.

Could Pela become a candidate for FDA Breakthrough Therapy designation?

There is an interesting historical precedent.

Merck's blockbuster cancer immunotherapy Keytruda received Breakthrough Therapy designation in January 2013, followed by its initial FDA approval in September 2014.

But consider something else about Keytruda.

Despite its remarkable success in treating several cancers, evidence has demonstrated that Keytruda alone is often ineffective against immunologically "cold" tumors, particularly microsatellite-stable colorectal cancers.

In fact, one early clinical study reported no objective responses among 18 patients with mismatch-repair-proficient colorectal cancer treated with Keytruda.

And that brings us back to Pela...

Earlier clinical studies have demonstrated Pela's ability to stimulate immune activity within tumors, potentially providing the very immune activation that treatments such as Keytruda need to become more effective against otherwise resistant cancers.

These studies have also demonstrated a generally favorable safety profile, with encouraging evidence of longer survival in certain cancer treatment combinations.

Although REO-033 is not testing Pela with Keytruda, compelling results could strengthen interest in Pela's broader potential as an adjunct to existing cancer treatments.

And what about Big Pharma?

Could extraordinary REO-033 results, potentially followed by Breakthrough Therapy designation, suddenly change the level of interest among major pharmaceutical companies?

Might licensing agreements, development partnerships, or even acquisition possibilities begin taking on an entirely different dimension?

After all, Pela's potential application across multiple cancer types could represent a much larger opportunity than colorectal cancer alone.

And consider another possibility.

Because Pela is administered separately from existing cancer treatments, one can envision a future where patients might visit convenient outpatient infusion clinics to receive Pela as an adjunct therapy, under the direction of their oncologists.

Such a development could open an entirely new dimension in the delivery of cancer treatment.

Now, consider the bigger picture.

For years, the vision has been that a naturally occurring virus could become the missing piece that helps existing cancer treatments save more lives.

Earlier Jones Reports coined the term "The Trinity Approach" — envisioning the potential combination of Pela with checkpoint inhibitors and antibody-drug conjugates.

But perhaps there's another intriguing dimension to that name.

Consider a virus provided by nature, studied decades ago by Dr. Sabin, and now cultivated and amplified by Oncolytics into a potential weapon against cancer.

Could there even be a touch of divine Providence in this long journey? Who knows?

Again, let's stay humble in our expectations and keep it to the science. After all, ONCY trades well under a buck, and its following seems largely confined to a group of us retail scientists, believers, and hopefuls.

And as earlier Jones Reports have suggested, I now proclaim that a wake-up call may be coming for institutional money managers. If the initial REO-033 ORR readout points convincingly upward, perhaps Wall Street will finally begin taking a closer look at this underdog penny stock.

What might that mean for Oncolytics itself?

Could today's underdog penny stock eventually emerge as a key player in the fight against cancer?

Perhaps the approaching REO-033 results will begin to tell us whether some of these extraordinary possibilities could become reality.

For a little penny stock with such enormous potential, that would be quite a story.

This report has presented some intriguing "what if" scenarios.

For those of us willing to take a chance on something with the potential to make a real difference, perhaps owning just "some" shares is a way to be part of it.

But perhaps - not too many to limit the risk.

Let it be known that I still personally hold 1000 ONCY retail shares, now under a buck. Although they are seemingly embattled shares during the wait for the initial readout - I want to see what is actually about to develop with Pela advancement.

Sunday Edition: Democrats Beware

This is a brief note to cast a warning to all Democrats from a son of what history is recording as America's “Greatest Generation” — and a longtime independent.

With the midterm elections just 30 days away, here is some food for thought...

Beware wolves in sheep’s clothing.

That's what I believe this latest Democratic Socialists of America — DSA — movement represents for America.

For generations, Americans have been pledging allegiance to the flag and to “the Republic for which it stands.”

The DSA has little regard for the Republic as we know it and wants to tear down fundamental parts of the system of checks and balances our forefathers created in the Constitution signed in Philadelphia in 1787.

They propose abolishing the United States Senate and replacing our two-house Congress with ONE legislative body.

They also call for abolishing the Electoral College, removing another constitutional mechanism through which the states have a distinct role in choosing the President. That would shift even more national political power toward heavily populated metropolitan areas and further weaken the influence of smaller states. That is yet another example of dismantling the constitutional balance our forefathers designed.

They propose replacing the independently elected President with an executive chosen by and subordinate to Congress.

They would also replace the Supreme Court as we know it with a judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress.

Think about that for a moment.

The Senate — gone.

The independently elected President — gone.

And much more political power concentrated in ONE legislative body.

What troubles me further is that mainstream Democrats overlook just where these ideas could ultimately lead, as long as negative Trump sentiment continues to work to their political advantage.

Can you think of any disciplined ideological — or religious-political — movements that may favor such an opening?

In closing, let's not forget the cautionary tone of the great Benjamin Franklin. When asked what form of government had been created, Franklin famously replied:

“A Republic, if you can keep it.”

Perhaps those words deserve some renewed thought today.

Democrats Beware.

Back to the Future with Some Lam Research (LRCX) — Over Time

Let's briefly continue the commentary here as the world and markets carry on with their daily silliness of humankind.
Now pause for a moment to reflect on that last sentence. Could that be a taste of how this new "Super Intelligence" views mankind?
So, we are hearing reports about how the very founders of AI companies are casting warnings about how AI proceeds into the new term — "Super Intelligence."

In recent days, it's interesting that AI has increasingly become a political football, with issues being bantered about involving the rapid speed of development plans, the enormous energy and cooling needs involved, and the massive hardware requirements needed to run AI programs.
These issues can be debated forever.
In addition, new reports are coming to light about the billions and billions of dollars that a company such as Anthropic will have to invest — or commit to — in order to support the infrastructure and vast data-center requirements involved.
It seems to this observer that some of the hoopla surrounding the anticipated Anthropic IPO may now be getting tempered with a dose of reality.
That leads me to wonder even more about the possible "back-door" entry through some of the companies that invested early in Anthropic.
NOW, I am NOT saying a stock like SKM won't do well once the IPO starts selling. BUT, I am pointing to forces that may contradict some of the highly enthusiastic expectations surrounding the Anthropic IPO.
As a personal opinion, I think AI can't be stopped now that the genie is out of the bottle.
Can it be controlled or slowed down through regulation and/or self-governance by the companies involved?
Ask China.
Okay, so let's cut to the chase on a view of what stocks could possibly be gainers.
As I have opined before, this market is not acting the same as last year. Although the major indices have reached or traded near all-time highs, underneath them sectors and individual stocks are still channel surfing.
I have therefore been watching with more "dry powder," along with a few small "test positions" to stay involved and get a feel for the trading levels.
One result has been a notion to focus on some stocks that I can project as possible winners in the coming world.
Generally, I like to focus on what may be undervalued stocks that the market is possibly overlooking.
I'm still sticking with that strategy.
But there are also some higher-valued stocks that merit attention.

Lam Research Corporation (LRCX), an American-based company, was trading in the $60s (!). Yep — "back then."
Look at it now.
The importance of what LRCX brings to the world of chips made virtually everywhere has become even more apparent as increasingly advanced chips are required to support AI — and eventually "Super Intelligence."
LRCX has already gained plenty of respect, and earnings have helped validate that respect.
Even so, I have selected LRCX as a stock I am buying in gingerly amounts — ONE share, or just some at a time, over time.
Preferably, it may be fortuitous to target the $300 area since the stock has faded considerably from above $400.
However, it may not wait for another big dip. Nobody can actually know in this market.
BUT - the "chips of everything" still need the etching and deposition tools that Lam Research provides.
A few other U.S.-based semiconductor stocks are being watched here as well.

Because Pela is administered separately from existing cancer treatments, one can envision a future where patients might visit convenient outpatient infusion clinics to receive Pela as an adjunct therapy, under the direction of their oncologists.
Such a development could open an entirely new dimension in the delivery of cancer treatment.
Now, consider the bigger picture.
For years, the vision has been that a naturally occurring virus could become the missing piece that helps existing cancer treatments save more lives.
Earlier Jones Reports coined the term "The Trinity Approach" — envisioning the potential combination of Pela with checkpoint inhibitors and antibody-drug conjugates.
But perhaps there's another intriguing dimension to that name.
Consider a virus provided by nature, studied decades ago by Dr. Sabin, and now cultivated and amplified by Oncolytics into a potential weapon against cancer.
Could there even be a touch of divine Providence in this long journey? Who knows?
Again, let's stay humble in our expectations and keep it to the science. After all, ONCY trades well under a buck, and its following seems largely confined to a group of us retail scientists, believers, and hopefuls.
And as earlier Jones Reports have suggested, I now proclaim that a wake-up call may be coming for institutional money managers. If the initial REO-033 ORR readout points convincingly upward, perhaps Wall Street will finally begin taking a closer look at this underdog penny stock.
What might that mean for Oncolytics itself?
Could today's underdog penny stock eventually emerge as a key player in the fight against cancer?
Perhaps the approaching REO-033 results will begin to tell us whether some of these extraordinary possibilities could become reality.
For a little penny stock with such enormous potential, that would be quite a story.
This report has presented some intriguing "what if" scenarios.
For those of us willing to take a chance on something with the potential to make a real difference, perhaps owning just "some" shares is a way to be part of it.
But perhaps - not too many to limit the risk.

Oncolytics Biotech (ONCY) is sitting under $1 and remains an underdog speculative biotech stock. Folks, before delving further here, let's be honest. With penny stocks, each has its reason for being there.
This report looks at both the bear and the bull of the matter. Yet within that uncertainty may hold opportunity. To address risk, we often use the words:
Maybe some — not too much.
There is also Nasdaq listing risk if ONCY remains below the $1 minimum bid requirement long enough to fall out of compliance.
But something IS different this time.
With biotech trials, things typically take years to know the outcomes — positive or negative.
With ONCY, that tired script may be changing. Early Objective Response Rate (ORR) results from the new REO-033 colorectal cancer trial are expected in just months, NOT years.
That makes the early ORR readout very important. It could provide the first indication of whether Pelareorep (Pela) is working and help determine whether ONCY moves toward the larger pivotal Part B.
So, let's talk “What IF?” for a moment.
What IF early treatment in the Pela REO-033 arm shows obvious and outstanding results in tumor reductions?
What could that set in motion?
And why could the results of a small earlier trial called REO-022 suddenly become very important?
Perhaps earlier Pela results helped get the FDA's attention.
Remember, this follows the historical results of the small REO-022 trial — and other small Pela trials in which significant responses have been reported. In advanced anal cancer, for example, two Complete Responses (CRs) were reported among 14 evaluable third-line patients receiving Pela plus atezolizumab.
Many skeptics will point to a long road of small trials and the failure, so far, to advance Pela successfully through larger trial settings.
The word “history” is frequently used by disgruntled shareholders, shorts and naysayers when discussing ONCY.
But new management has taken steps forward and reached important regulatory milestones, including alignment with the FDA on trial planning that could potentially streamline the path toward approval.
Meanwhile, ONCY continues to generate spirited discussion among retail investors on various stock forums.
From Jones' view, that “buzz” seems to be growing lately.
Something has changed. So let's examine the dots — and where they may even lead.

This report is specific to speculation on things that “could” happen “if” the results of an earlier cancer trial called REO-022 repeat in the larger colorectal cancer trial now underway.
First, an important caveat. REO-022 was a small study. The colorectal cancer group discussed here consisted of 15 patients, and comparisons with standard-of-care results are historical rather than from a control group in the same trial.
Still, the numbers got attention.
The REO-022 results, as reported by ONCY, were:
ORR (Objective Response Rate): 33% (vs. approximately 6–11% historical)
Median PFS (Progression-Free Survival): 16.6 months (vs. 5.7 months historical)
Median OS (Overall Survival): 27.0 months (vs. 11.2 months historical)

One group receives the standard treatment of FOLFIRI (chemotherapy) plus bevacizumab (generic Avastin by Roche/Genentech).
The other receives the same treatment plus Pela.
This time, Pela will not be compared only with historical results. The trial will directly compare patients receiving Pela with patients in the same trial receiving the same treatment without Pela.
And one of the first things to watch will be ORR — Objective Response Rate.
Early ORR could be THE first major indication of whether REO-033 is succeeding — or running into trouble.
And that brings us to the “IFs.”
IF #1 — Does REO-022 Repeat?
IF the Pela group begins showing an ORR anywhere near the 33% reported in REO-022 — while the group without Pela remains substantially lower — “things” could start getting interesting very quickly.
That would provide something REO-022 could not: a direct comparison between patients receiving Pela and patients in the same trial receiving the same treatment without Pela.
IF #2 — What Could Early ORR Set in Motion?
ONCY does not necessarily have to wait years for mature PFS and OS results before “things” start happening.
IF early Part A ORR results are strong enough, they could help support ONCY's decision to move into the larger pivotal Part B and provide the basis for further discussions with the FDA.
So IF early ORR is strong, the direction of the Pela program could become much clearer long before the final survival numbers are known.
IF #3 — Could This Lead Toward Accelerated Approval?
This is where the FDA pathway becomes important.
The FDA has provided written feedback on a proposed pivotal Part B in which ORR and duration of response could potentially support accelerated approval, while PFS could support full approval.
Final agreement on key elements of the registration program would still require further FDA discussions.
So, the potential path is:
Strong Part A results → further FDA discussions → pivotal Part B → potential accelerated approval based on ORR and duration of response.
That's a significant “IF” — but it is now a regulatory path that ONCY and the FDA have actually discussed.
IF #4 — What About More Patients?
There is another important difference between REO-022 and REO-033.
REO-022 produced its reported results in patients with KRAS-mutant cancer.
REO-033 has broadened the study to patients with RAS-mutant cancer, which includes KRAS as well as other RAS mutations.
That creates both risk and opportunity.
IF Pela does not work as well across this broader group, it could weaken the overall results.
But IF Pela works well across the broader RAS population, many more cancer patients could potentially become eligible for treatment.
And that could mean addressing a larger unmet need.
IF #5 — What IF One Group Responds and Another Doesn't?
REO-033 knows the mutation characteristics of the patients entering the study.
So, what IF the KRAS patients respond strongly to Pela but another RAS subgroup doesn't?
That could help identify which cancer patients benefit most from Pela and potentially influence how ONCY designs or focuses Part B.
Now flip that “IF.”
What IF strong responses show up across the broader RAS population?
Then Pela may not only be repeating the REO-022 story.
It could be expanding it.
There are a lot of “IFs” here.
Some could turn out positive. Some could turn out negative.
But unlike many biotech stories, investors may not have to wait years before the first important answers begin arriving.
Early ORR should begin telling the story.
IF it disappoints, that will tell us something.
But IF REO-033 begins showing the kind of response seen in REO-022, then some of these “IFs” could start becoming reality.
And that's when...
“Things” could get VERY interesting.

Special September 11 Jones Report With Market and Stock Talk

Special September 11 Jones Report

Today, September 11, 2026, marks 25 years since the attacks on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and since the passengers and crew of United Flight 93 lost their lives near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
There is another number worth recognizing. This year also marks the 250th anniversary of America.
Twenty-five years since 9/11. Two hundred and fifty years of America.
There is powerful symbolism in those numbers — and a troubling contrast.
On September 11, 2001, America's enemies attacked this country from the outside. Today, while external threats remain, America must also recognize growing threats from within.
One such threat is radical jihadist ideology. Its adherents can exploit the very constitutional rights and liberties that distinguish America in order to spread a radical interpretation of Islamic doctrine, with the ultimate objective of replacing our system of government and law with their version of Sharia law.
That presents America with a difficult but essential challenge: defending the constitutional freedoms that define this country while remaining vigilant against those who would use those same freedoms in an effort to undermine it.
As America approaches the midterm elections this November, too many have forgotten or seem unaware of the external and growing internal threats facing this great country.
I urge readers to consider voting for those who recognize these threats and understand the words of Benjamin Franklin.
As Benjamin was leaving the Constitutional Convention in 1787, he was asked what form of government the delegates had created.
His famous reply:
“A Republic, if you can keep it.”
And with that said, let's move to the markets and stocks.

Market Talk

There is plenty to talk about. But the Jones Report prefers to keep things brief.
First, many pundits are already speculating on just how the midterm election cycle may affect the markets. Just as important to market watchers are the conclusions being drawn from predictions that the past will repeat itself.
It has been pointed out that in prior midterm years, the lead-up to the elections has often not been favorable to the markets, with corrections often followed by a resurgence in stock values.
When it comes to the exact future “this time” — nobody knows!
There are things happening, though, that at best “seem to” point to some areas to watch for possible positive returns through the trouble.
Before venturing further into such notions, the volatility of the first half of this year, along with the channel churning and sector rotations, is a reminder to some of us — keep a good share of the powder DRY.

Stock Talk

It is now six months into the Iran conflict. Without rehashing the back-and-forth drama of war and peace negotiations, a hard look at where we are today may be useful.
With much of Iran's conventional military capability diminished, the U.S. and its allies appear to have the upper hand.
However, Iran — more specifically, the IRGC — still has the capability to create considerable regional turmoil around the Strait of Hormuz.
While oil flows through the Strait have modestly recovered, the conflict and attacks on ships continue.
Meanwhile, oil prices have pushed above $100 per barrel, with gasoline prices rising sharply and the effects being felt around the world.
Two companies highlighted here that produce oil and gas in the basins of the USA are Devon Energy (DVN) and Permian Resources (PR).
These two remain watch stocks, with possible further upside yet to come as global oil supplies remain strained and America's strategic reserves sit at historically low levels.
Moving on to metals, specifically gold and silver — and yet again to two miners watched here.
Perhaps it should be noted that recently we saw the miners correct even though their earnings were quite good. It seemed that the stock handlers simply did not want to give the miners the respect they were earning. One excuse was that higher energy costs can affect All-In Sustaining Costs (AISC) of production.
While true, the smart guys seemed to forget something: gold and silver prices have more than doubled from the not-too-distant past. One thing that makes me cautious is that old habits die hard with money managers until they are taught a new lesson. It remains to be seen on the miners, but gingerly placed positions may pay off over time.
In a world where countries around the globe, including our own, continue to increase national debt, those miners producing gold and silver appear to offer more value than many stocks whose earnings seem nowhere near enough to justify some lofty stock prices. At some point as earnings show sustained high levels, the market may begin giving these miners more of the respect their earnings deserve. Kinross Gold (KGC) and leading U.S. silver producer Hecla Mining (HL) remain two stock picks to watch. However, if oil exceeds $100 much longer, be aware of "old habits" of money managers.
These are a few thoughts on oil and gold sectors. Future reports will opine on many market forces and stocks to come.

When Connecting the Dots Gets Complicated — Did OKLO/Meta Change the Outlook?

In my last post, I brought up the example of how OKLO is planning a 1.2-GW power campus in Ohio using its Aurora nuclear concept — eventually deploying multiple 75-MW Aurora powerhouses.
We tried to connect the dots to the notion of using the Ohio/Meta plan as a possible starting model for a similar solution in Upstate New York, where the state is seeking at least 1 GW of new advanced nuclear power. Part of the notion was to reduce dependence on electricity supplied from Canadian hydroelectric sources that are becoming a political football.
While the notion of using the Meta plan seemed reasonable, more information has now become public about a potential clash between OKLO and PJM, the regional grid operator.
The issue seems to be that OKLO and Meta added natural gas and fuel cells to the proposed project, possibly to supplement power while the Aurora nuclear units are being deployed. But combining three different types of generation has raised a separate grid-stability issue.
PJM raised concerns about whether the combined nuclear, gas and fuel-cell system could remain stable during a sudden grid voltage drop. PJM ultimately removed the 750-MW project from its current interconnection study cycle. OKLO disputes that decision and has asked FERC to order PJM to reinstate the project.
OKLO is now raising the possibility of a delay on the order of 14 months if its appeal for a quick resolution of the matter is unsuccessful.
I would like to note here that ALL of the above reinforces the notion of starting an Upstate New York plan NOW for site selection of a scalable location that can employ an SMR energy solution such as OKLO could provide with its Aurora Campus plan.
However, it also points out that trying to connect the dots in a fluid planning process, even a few years out, can affect near-term sentiment in stocks of a speculative nature.
Getting back to "the market" — it often down-prices uncertainty. At this point, OKLO remains a stock to watch, but it seems possible that complications in the OKLO/Meta plan, along with the appearance of hedging the Aurora buildout with alternate energy sources, may create bearish winds for a time.

Canada has again raised the possibility of using electricity exports to the United States as leverage. Maybe Washington should take the hint.
Now consider a few things already happening.
Upstate New York is moving toward a goal of at least 1 GW of new advanced nuclear power, with several communities already expressing interest in hosting it.
Meanwhile, Oklo and Meta are planning a 1.2-GW nuclear power campus in Ohio, eventually using multiple 75-MW Aurora powerhouses. The planned deployment could certainly be considered near-term compared with the decade-long timelines historically associated with conventional nuclear projects.
And Oklo's first 75-MW commercial Aurora is already moving forward at the DOE's Idaho National Laboratory, where it will provide the first real deployment and operating experience for the design.
So why not connect the dots?
Why not consider using a similar Ohio/Meta scalable Aurora-campus model for Upstate New York?
Notion: Start the site selection, regulatory work, grid planning and routine infrastructure now, while Idaho proves the first commercial 75-MW Aurora. That could shave years off deployment while reducing the risk of prematurely duplicating unproven critical components.
Don't rush the reactor. BUT - Don't delay everything around it.
And plan the site with an exit ramp. If the Aurora ultimately encounters a problem that makes the project impractical, design as much of the early infrastructure as possible for another productive use — perhaps even a data center.
Canada has reminded us that imported electricity can become political leverage. New York wants more nuclear power. Oklo already has a scalable model being planned in Ohio.
Maybe somebody should connect the dots for faster deployment while maintaining a safe deployment strategy.

Growth vs. Time

Well, this is a fine mess we are in, Ollie.

Don't look now, but the national debt has grown to $40 trillion and our strategic oil reserves remain near levels not seen since the early 1980s. We are also in a prolonged "engagement" with radical Islamists, where their doctrine seeks religious dominance versus ours of religious freedom, liberty and justice for all, with the unalienable right to pursue happiness.
The above is a general synopsis by an American, second generation of the WWII Greatest Generation that helped save the world from global tyranny.
So how are we dealing with the "things" above that continue developing?
The latest proclamation from the Treasury is that we will "grow our way out of it."
But alas, perhaps some—like those "bond vigilantes"—are not quite on board.
Perhaps they are looking at what IS, and not what could be.
Meanwhile, the Treasury seems inclined to view some of the market's growing concern as near-term "noise," while maintaining that economic growth can provide the longer-term answer.
But the bond market has a way of making its own noise.
And when investors start demanding higher yields to take on the risk of holding all that debt, that noise can become increasingly difficult to ignore. Higher long-term rates then work their way through the economy into mortgages, corporate borrowing and other forms of credit.
Meanwhile, the Fed chairman seems content to keep the market guessing about the future direction of short-term interest rates.
And that's where a cycle can begin.
Let's stop there, because the words that can follow—recession, inflation, stagflation—start becoming counter to the very goal of growing ourselves out of this fine mess, Ollie.

Stock Talk

So let's go back to "things and seems," with the full awareness that things change—along with the sentiment and trading whims of investors in a highly volatile climate.
One thing: It's not just our economy. It's the global economy that is also experiencing higher costs for goods and services.
So now comes the question of "who wins?"
Several sectors are up for grabs in answering that question.
Recall our recent notion of taking small "test positions," either with real investment dollars or just imaginary play money. Two areas we've been watching are energy—particularly oil and gas—along with gold and silver.
Not long ago, we watched energy prices move higher while gold miners corrected on the perception that higher energy costs would mean higher mining costs.
But one miner in particular stuck out as a very good performer: Kinross Gold (KGC), and perhaps some Hecla Mining (HL) as well.
These two remain on the Jones watch list for continued performance.
And consider this: KGC just produced quarterly earnings of 71 cents per share. That's more earnings per share than some companies whose stocks trade for more than $100 a share.
It has sometimes seemed that the miners don't always get the respect. But after watching developments at Kinross and Hecla over recent years, perhaps that respect is overdue—and starting to happen.
Moving on to some more "things that seem," let's talk oil and natural gas.
Two companies producing here in America's Permian Basin stand out: Devon Energy (DVN) and perhaps Permian Resources (PR). This is just a pointer to two stocks to watch.
Moving on to the Treasury Secretary's notion of growth...
That growth can come from several areas, but one is certainly the tech sector.
The possible picks here are numerous. But AI stocks have seen some wavering and some doubt.
One may say that now that the genie is out of the bottle, the role of AI in the world cannot be stopped. The problem is that the energy AI demands is enormous.
One company that fostered enough interest for a small test position is the South Korean telecom company SK Telecom (SKM). It pays a fair dividend, but that's not so much the reason.
The reason is that, early on, SK Telecom reportedly invested $100 million in the private AI company Anthropic. With the possibility of an Anthropic public offering somewhere down the road, it seems to put SKM on the radar as a continued Stock to Watch.
As an aside, it may be noted that Amazon touted some amazing earnings last quarter.
BUT, largely lost in those headline numbers was a whopping $53.4 billion in non-operating pre-tax gains—largely PAPER gains reflecting the increased value of Amazon's investment in what private company?
Yes, if you replied Anthropic, that would be correct.
Hmmm...
Sounds a little familiar to SKM, doesn't it?
So going forward, one very speculative company making progress on the energy-needs front is Oklo (OKLO).
This one was highlighted in a recent Jones Report, and we'll note it again as speculative—but also as a company on a glideslope toward possibly delivering viable solutions in the form of advanced small nuclear reactors as potentially better and safer environmental solutions in the not-too-distant future.
The next stock notion may be too speculative for some and should probably, and rightfully, be treated with caution.
However, one beaten-down penny stock remains on the Jones Report radar: Oncolytics Biotech (ONCY).
The market may just be missing some of the recent progress. Pelareorep has received FDA Fast Track designation in colorectal cancer, while the company continues working with the FDA toward a registration-directed trial strategy that could provide a path toward faster approval.
Recent FDA feedback opens the possibility of transitioning directly from the current randomized trial into a pivotal Part B, potentially shortening the traditional path toward FDA approval.
With the regulatory path potentially becoming clearer, one might also wonder whether ONCY is beginning to garner increased interest from large pharma. Adding some intrigue, management has incentive awards that vest upon a definitive agreement involving either a buyout of ONCY or an exclusive license of Pelareorep. Admittedly, this delves into speculation. Until something happens, it's a spec stock under a buck for now.

Growth vs. Time

And perhaps that brings us right back to where we started.
We've talked recently about taking small "test positions," either with real dollars or simply imaginary play money. But those test positions weren't intended to be the destination. They were a way of testing a notion.
And some of those tests are beginning to point toward stocks that may actually outperform.
That's really one of the goals of this report. Not to make buy or sell recommendations, but to look across a changing market and try to identify some of the companies that just might have what it takes to climb the mountain.
Some will stumble. Some will turn around. And some may surprise us and keep climbing.
Of course, individual stock notions don't always move with the broader market flows. Sometimes the whole market decides to change direction.
That's another reason to keep some dry powder.
And dry powder doesn't necessarily have to sit idle. Something like USFR, an ETF holding floating-rate U.S. Treasury notes, can provide a place to wait while still collecting some income.
There is another income notion as well. Established high-dividend stocks may become increasingly interesting as their share prices retreat and their yields rise. Altria (MO), with its long record of consistent and growing dividends and a yield around 6.4%, starts looking a little different in the 60s than it did in the 70s.
Then, when one of those test positions begins showing signs that it really may be able to climb the mountain, the dry powder is there.
Because the idea isn't to be invested in everything all the time.
It's to keep looking for the climbers.
After all, in the race between Growth and Time, time doesn't stop to wait for anybody.

“Seems” and “Things” — Sector Rotation Again?

On a Tuesday in August, it seems this Iran conflict isn't coming to an end anytime soon.
There are this-and-that reasons that we won't go into here. They don't really matter for this report. What matters is the feel of things after nearly six months of a conflict that was advertised as a likely short excursion.
It ain't ending soon.
And that puts domestic oil and natural gas production front and center.
So what's “the thing” about what “seems”?
Considering some past reports here, we've looked at the stock action of Micron (MU). It seems MU has become a pretty good bellwether for sentiment surrounding the AI sector. There are others, of course, but MU has been an interesting one to watch.
And Tuesday it was talking.
After rebounding strongly from the recent unwinding, MU turned sharply lower again Tuesday as AI and semiconductor stocks came under renewed pressure.

Bottom line, it seems like fading market conviction is showing up again in many of the same stocks that rebounded after the unwinding just a few weeks ago.
They went down.
They came back.
And now some of them are starting to roll over again.
Maybe what seems to be happening is just another minor market hiccup.
Maybe it isn't.
Is this what “seems like” another sector rotation?
Maybe.
On Tuesday, technology fell about 1.9%, the semiconductor index dropped 5%, and Micron fell about 7%. Meanwhile, energy gained about 1.8%, with healthcare up 1.6% and consumer staples up 1.1%.
Money moved somewhere.
That's the thing.
And so, what seems to be happening sometimes carries forward.

And sometimes things change again.

But let's look at something that IS - and doesn't just “seem.”

The U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve is way, way down — now at its lowest level since late 1982.

Two stocks from prior Jones reports come to mind, both with major operations in the Permian Basin:

Devon Energy (DVN)
Permian Resources (PR)

It seems the market has started a process of rethinking a new normal that may be developing. Higher energy costs could be one of those “things.”

Who wins in that world?

And that seems to be what the market is trying to figure out.

The oil and gas sector can be a hard one to trade. It's not easy. And markets and sectors move on more than just one thing.

So we go back to the same tenet:

Maybe some. Not too much. Or none at all.

Sunday Edition: Markets, Megawatts and Monsters

To regulars here - it may seem as though it's been a while since you've seen a new Jones Report. Not really that long. Sometimes we all form our views and no sense beating them into the ground. That goes for other things besides stocks too. But let's stick to the market and stocks for now.

Let's briefly start with our past market observations as stocks like Micron (MU) were soaring with CNBC analysts falling to their knees touting up earnings and proclaiming memory victory in the AI world. It was here where you may have seen the more circumspect view. Recall when MU was peaking at $1,250 a share, this report implied just wait and see. Since that short time - MU is now nearly 500 points lower! I say this not to boast or brag. But that is an example of how hurtful the market can be for those who get over positioned in a stock, any stock. Here is a saying: "Things happen" and such things are outside of our control so we try to - stay aware..

Let's talk about some "things" that happen. You may occasionally hear about "bond vigilantes." These are not necessarily some organized group sitting around a table plotting the market's next move. BUT - they're big investors who can send a message by selling government bonds when they don't like what they see with inflation, deficits, spending or fiscal policy. When enough of them sell longer-term Treasury bonds, bond prices fall and yields rise. Those higher yields can spill over into borrowing costs throughout the economy — and they can put particular pressure on high-flying growth and technology stocks.

In other words, the Fed isn't the only game in town when it comes to interest rates. Sometimes the bond market does some of the tightening all by itself. And several pundits are pondering whether the new Fed Chairman, Kevin Warsh, is content to let longer-term market interest rates rise naturally, without the Fed itself raising the short-term rates it directly controls. Put another way — are the bond vigilantes doing some of Warsh's dirty work for him? The Fed can leave its own rate lever alone while the bond market does some tightening on the long end.

And lately those bond vigilantes have been making some noise. Concerns over government spending, deficits and inflation have helped put selling pressure on longer-term Treasury bonds. Remember, when bonds get sold their prices go down and their yields go up. That matters to stock investors because suddenly those lofty valuations have some competition from higher yields — and the higher the valuation, the more vulnerable a stock can become.
Well, that's just ONE of the things that can cause a sector rotation out of what seem to be good bullish stocks and into other investments — or even just sidelined cash sitting in higher-interest vehicles.
What's another "thing" that recently happened? How about a major hedge fund that, ironically, had the word "awareness" in its name and saw billions in gains wiped out by being too bullish and over-margined? Yep, that all happened, causing forced and panicked selling of some favorite tech stocks even as other hedge funds may have been short selling the tech sector.
And that's something worth remembering. A stock doesn't necessarily have to suddenly become a bad company for its price to go down. Money moves. Priorities change. What looked like the best place for investment dollars yesterday can suddenly have competition today. Sometimes it's interest rates. Sometimes it's inflation. Sometimes it's geopolitics, government policy, earnings expectations or simply a sector that got too crowded and ran too far. And then there are manipulative forces that seem to be nefarious when it affects the stock YOU are in as a small retail investor.
Now add to the angst, the off and on and off again Iran war. Yikes - enough said!

That brings us right back to those high-flying AI and technology names. It doesn't mean the AI story is over or that these aren't good companies. It means price still matters. When everybody gets crowded onto the same side of the boat, it doesn't always take much to make it tilt.

Sometimes, it's smart to adjust the various positions to reflect what seems to be new baseline thinking. For example, recently we've seen the enormous capital expenses (CapEx) that some high-flyer companies are planning to invest in AI causing some investor angst. It's not necessarily that investors suddenly don't believe in AI. They are beginning to ask another question: Just how much money has to be spent to build all of this out, and how long before those enormous investments produce the returns needed to justify them?

In closing - you will not read here about all-time market highs being met in a market rebound last week. It's ALL relative to YOUR positions and nobody else. Ask the manager of the hedge fund that LOST BILLIONS recently if he is happy the markets rebounded. And what about stocks like MU? Not so good. Some recent IPOs were cautioned here as well — including the risk of previously locked-up shares becoming available for sale. Those things matter, and that was the point of the caution.

Markets have a way of getting carried away in both directions. Just as enthusiasm can push a good stock too high, fear and uncertainty can push that same stock too low. That's where things can start getting interesting again. Some watch stocks are indeed interesting but even then we use the words some, not too much, or none at all along with dry powder.
Okay, enough opining - it's time for some ...

Super Data Centers Are Fucking Stupid!

There, I said it.
As the AI race heats up, we're now hearing plans for data-center campuses requiring 5 gigawatts — even 10 gigawatts — of electrical power. At some point bigger stops making engineering sense. In my view, 10-GW data centers cross that line.
Think about 10 GW for a minute. That's power demand approaching that of a major city, concentrated in one location and largely running around the clock. And all that electricity doesn't just disappear after the GPUs use it. Nearly all of it eventually becomes heat that has to go somewhere.

So now you've created another problem. You need enormous cooling systems to remove that heat. Depending on the cooling design, that can mean tremendous water requirements. Then come the substations, transmission lines, backup power, redundant cooling, roads, security and all the other infrastructure required to keep this monster alive.

Water! Waste! Heat!

And for what? Why does all that computing have to be concentrated in one enormous location? WE have a LOT of space that can be more smartly used here in America.

A 500-MW data center is already huge. Instead of one 10-GW monster, that same ultimate computing capacity could be distributed among multiple smaller campuses. Put them where electrical power is available. Put them where cooling makes sense. Connect them through high-capacity fiber. Spread the infrastructure and geographic risk instead of putting everything in one gigantic basket.

Sure, some AI workloads benefit from having enormous numbers of processors physically close together. There are economies of scale too. But economies of scale don't continue forever. Eventually they run headfirst into the engineering problems created by scale itself.
That brings us to small modular nuclear reactors — and to one of the names on the Jones Watch List.

Take Oklo (OKLO). Its planned larger Aurora powerhouse design is targeted at up to roughly 75 MW of electrical output. Seven of those units gets you into the neighborhood of 500 MW. The nuclear campus wouldn't necessarily even have to sit beside the data center. It could potentially be located miles away on suitable land and deliver power through dedicated transmission infrastructure.
Now compare that with trying to power a 10-GW monster exclusively with 75-MW reactors. You're talking about roughly 134 Aurora units. That's no longer playing to the obvious advantage of a small modular reactor.

Maybe the smarter AI infrastructure model ultimately isn't a handful of gigantic 5-to-10-GW computing cities. Maybe it's many smaller data centers distributed around available sources of reliable power.
AI needs enormous amounts of electricity. No argument there.
But needing enormous amounts of electricity doesn't mean you have to consume it all in one place.
Sometimes bigger is better.
And sometimes bigger is just stupid.
Now, a few words about OKLO stock. This stock traded as high as $170 just last year. It has no earnings and yet is rich in cash reserves as it carries out its plans. And Meta is not merely talking about SMRs someday. Meta is financially supporting development of a 1.2-GW Oklo campus, with first power targeted for 2030.

Last week, OKLO stock rallied back from lows in the 30's into the 40's after announcing that its Groves Isotope Test Reactor in Lockhart, Texas, achieved first criticality — a controlled, self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction — less than a year after groundbreaking. It's the first project under the U.S. Department of Energy's Reactor Pilot Program to reach criticality on private land from a greenfield site, and Oklo says it may be the fastest privately funded, privately sited reactor build in history.

Recently, the challenges of navigating a market stuck in Market Limbo have been presented here. The use of smaller "test positions," while keeping more dry powder on the sidelines, is one tactic aimed at helping protect a portfolio from unnecessary losses.
The following are a few symbols that Jones continues to watch. They have been highlighted in previous reports. The developments below suggest they may be worthy of continued or renewed attention.

V2X (VVX) – Defense support and military readiness continue to make this one worth watching.
SK Telecom (SKM) – A telecom name with AI initiatives and an attractive dividend.
AeroVironment (AVAV) – Continues to secure military drone contracts while expanding its counter-drone technologies.
Kratos Defense (KTOS) – A leader in affordable unmanned aircraft and next-generation defense programs.

V2X (VVX): An Underrated Stock the Market Doesn't Fully "Get" Yet

Going forward, that notion applies to any and all stocks in this volatile market. Opportunities will come and go,but preserving capital while remaining positioned to participate may prove just as important as finding the next winner.

V2X (VVX) supports the defense industry by maintaining military aircraft and other defense systems around the world. A critical mission.
But VVX is more than just another defense contractor. The company recently blew away expectations by reporting quarterly earnings of $1.53 per share. Yet I still think Wall Street is missing an important part of the story.
By the nature of its work supporting operations where rapidly changing threats emerge, VVX has developed rapid prototyping and engineering teams that can quickly adapt and deliver solutions to critical challenges.
Something I don't believe is showing up on analysts' screens is the potential for these rapid development teams to become a much larger part of the business. As modern warfare continues to evolve, the need for companies that can rapidly develop and field new technologies should only grow.

Recent YouTube videos show the Tempest buggy—rapidly developed by VVX—being used in Ukraine. They imply the company is involved in rapidly developing solutions to evolving threats to peace. It doesn't take much of a stretch to envision similar vehicles eventually operating autonomously in a myriad of support missions.

In Closing

VVX already enjoys Wall Street recognition and trades in the $70s. But I don't believe the market has fully recognized the company's unique positioning in rapidly developing solutions to critical challenges facing defense clients around the world.
Maintaining military aircraft and other defense systems is a critical business—one that helps safeguard the free world. Rapidly solving today's and tomorrow's military challenges could make this self-described "discreet" and "scrappy" company stand out from the crowd. If recent earnings are any indication, that story may already be unfolding, and I don't believe Wall Street analysts are fully capturing it yet.

Time will tell if Wall Street eventually comes to appreciate what I believe is an underrated opportunity. As always, do your own due diligence. VVX may be worthy of a small "test position" while staying watchful.

Sunday Edition: So Here We Are

Here we are. It's just after midpoint 2026.
So where have we been?
Where are we going? Some ask hopefully. Others ask plaintively.
The market has a way of doing that.
Perhaps before looking too far ahead, it is worth taking a moment to look back.
First, let's briefly compare last year to this year.
During 2025, several stocks highlighted here didn't just double. Some tripled. Others gained even more.
One example was Lam Research. The stock climbed from the $60s to where it now sits at roughly $350 a share. After doubling with the typical stock waffling along the way, many of us took the gain and let it go.
Huh?
Yep... some good situations just get away.
On the other hand, some stocks reminded us that taking a double or a triple and then sitting back can be the better course. Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (KTOS) climbed from the teens to over $100 before fading back into the $50s after less-than-impressive earnings, leaving potential as the basis for renewed hope.
The point is, 2025 gave investors more chances to make some nice trading gains.
Now let's turn to this year.
The major indices have continued to climb, but the ride has been much different. Investors have had to work through sharp volatility, geopolitical strife, wars on two fronts, tariff concerns, inflation worries and plenty of market whipsaws.
Yet, despite all that, the market has continued to find support from progress, improving earnings and hope in the American way.
Before leaving where we are, there is one more point worth mentioning.
As the major indices have climbed to new highs this year, many investors have found the ride anything but easy. In fact, as reported on CNBC this past week, only about 25% of professional active money managers were ahead for the year.
If you've been actively trading in 2026, that statistic may ring true for you as well.
It didn't take long for the this report to coin the term Market Limbo.
It's where stocks seem to reside for a while. They drift. They waffle. Sometimes quietly. Sometimes violently.
Good earnings don't always matter. Bad news doesn't always matter. Stocks can rise on hope one week and fall on profit-taking the next.
Welcome to Market Limbo. What's next?
Answering that question can only be done from the vantage point of the present. Take a look around.
World news continues to change by the hour. The Iran situation remains fluid, with the Strait of Hormuz still playing a major role in the world's energy balance. Meanwhile, investors continue to watch inflation, interest rates, tariffs, AI, earnings and politics, all while trying to decide what comes next.
Nobody knows for certain where the market goes from here.
A tenet of the Jones Report is to try to remain aware.
Stay aware of the factors affecting your stocks. Stay aware of broader market forces. And try to maintain some self-awareness of your own emotions, along with the lines that may become demarcation points for hard decisions.
In that light, when it comes to trading, it is often harder to sell or trim a stock than it is to buy one.
Buying usually begins with hope. Selling means deciding whether that hope is still justified, whether the position has become too large, or whether protecting capital now matters more than what the stock might do later.
The above is not meant to ignore the notion of investing in a company we believe in and staying long some shares. That, too, is a desired goal.
However, investors who have lived through enough sharp whipsaws often come to appreciate an old trader's saying:
"A long is a good trade gone bad."
Like it or not, that mindset is often reflected in trading programs and, at times, by institutional money managers as well.
So how does the common retail investor—the little guy—compete with that?
The Jones way? Try to stay aware.
Another goal is to preserve hard-fought gains, limit losses, and not let Market Limbo pull your portfolio into Purgatory.
One strategy is to try to manage uncertainty with more dry powder and smaller test positions, possibly spread out with more diversity.
Looking into the future leaves many questions about how AI will impact the economy and, to put it more basically—jobs.
There are AI bulls at the highest levels, and we can all see many of the advantages.
However, it is also quite clear that AI is going to be disruptive.
We see major companies like Oracle and Microsoft laying off many thousands of highly technical staff, including programmers.
Why?
AI is in the process of making some jobs obsolete as increased efficiency through automation reduces the need for humans.
The AI bulls admit it but, at the same time, often gloss over the "disruptive" part.
"Maybe not so fast, Chauncey!" exclaims Jones.
How long that disruption lasts is a concern.
Job number revisions continue to happen, and the full impact of AI on employment, productivity and the economy is still unfolding.
Looking further into 2026, there is one IPO brewing that also appears to carry disruptive potential—Anthropic.
One strategy taken here is a small test position in SK Telecom (SKM), which appears to offer a back-door way of participating as an early investor in Anthropic.
It's safe to say the Jones way now includes smaller test positions along with more dry powder in several of the stocks highlighted here lately. If interested, scroll down. The notion of diversification may begin to show up.
Staying aware of how smaller test positions play out can help shape future trading decisions as Market Limbo plays out.
If we already knew where the market was going, there would be no need for test positions or dry powder.
This report cannot yet fully conclude where things are going for the remainder of the year.
Perhaps the notions of Market Limbo, maintaining some dry powder, and using test positions before committing to larger ones may help improve awareness and decision making.

Monday's major indices, after successful Independence Day celebrations, traded ebulliently with CNBC pundits announcing the AI trade is back and this time it should stick.

"Oh, reallllllly?" says the Church Lady, recalling the old Dana Carvey SNL skit.

Yep, stocks like Micron Technology (MU) are up about ten points today. But wait a minute. Just last week, after reporting earnings, MU was nearly 300 points higher!

Just saying... today's hoopla doesn't even catch up to last week's whipsaws, and that goes for many tech stocks as well.

So, while the TV pundits proclaim Bull Land victory, many real people, traders and investors alike, may still feel like their stocks are stuck in Market Limbo.

With the above caveats, let's talk some specifics.

Stock Talk

With AI stocks still rolling, investors continue to focus on the data center theme and the large language models powering AI platforms such as ChatGPT from OpenAI and Claude from Anthropic.

The rumor mill has Anthropic's long-awaited IPO coming around October. Whether that timetable proves accurate or not, the market already appears to be looking ahead. That could keep AI, data center and infrastructure stocks in focus for some time.

Skepticism and opportunity do not have to be mutually exclusive. While today's market still appears vulnerable to sharp rotations and whipsaws, that doesn't mean investors should stop looking for new ideas. It may simply mean starting with small test positions and adding only if the investment thesis continues to improve.

One particular stock worth watching is SK Telecom (SKM), South Korea's largest wireless telecommunications company.

Beyond its core telecom business, SKM made an early $100 million private investment in Anthropic and has outlined ambitious plans to expand its AI and data center infrastructure throughout Asia.

Some traders have been buying a few shares of SKM here in the $30s as one possible way to participate in whatever ultimately comes from an Anthropic IPO. For investors looking to gain some exposure to that theme without chasing the higher-flying AI names, SKM may be worth considering as a small spec position.

In other Jones Watch Stocks, there is one that still seems to trade under the radar despite fundamentals that continue to improve. Perhaps that is because management prefers to remain "stealthy and scrappy," as the CEO has put it.

That stock is V2X (VVX).

Last quarter's VVX earnings jumped to $1.53 per share. Add in a record $13.8 billion backlog, and those numbers kind of speak for themselves.

And one more thing...

Those fighter jets flying all over on July 4 don't maintain themselves.

Managing Market Limbo

This report reflects the Jones observations following several days of market volatility. Nobody can say with certainty how the markets will react in the coming days and weeks. With that in mind, please take these observations as just that—observations rather than predictions.

The tenets here are to try to preserve hard-earned gains and manage a portfolio so it remains open to opportunity. Sometimes that may mean moving more defensively into higher-dividend companies. At other times, it may mean considering some shares of companies that have been beaten down more than their underlying value appears to justify.

The recent rotation out of many technology shares serves as another reminder that portfolio management matters. Trimming an overweight position is not necessarily a negative view of a company. At the same time, watching a stock cascade down ten points in a day is enough to make any investor weary of such whipsaws. Some exclaim, "WTF!" Frankly, who can blame them?

One analyst calls for a 30% correction in technology stocks and, suddenly, many investors head for the exits. Whether that proves to be an overreaction remains to be seen. This observer has cautioned that, although Micron's (MU) earnings roughly doubled, its stock price increased nearly fivefold. Portfolio management becomes increasingly important whenever volatility returns to the technology sector, particularly among semiconductor and memory stocks.

Update - Market Limbo

Sometimes a growth or speculative stock rises on the promise of a brighter future before the earnings fully justify the move. Eventually, the market can pause and wait for the fundamentals to catch up. That is what the Jones Report calls market limbo. During this phase, investors often rebalance positions as they take gains and the share price fades. Even when conviction remains, being aware of and adapting to changing market sentiment can save a gain from becoming a loss as a stock is punished and sent from a lofty level back to market limbo. Recent examples might include stocks such as NVTS and others that have experienced periods of sharp volatility as investors reassess future expectations.

Meanwhile, the recent "From Gold to Diapers" Market Talk theme has been catching investor interest. Gold continues to show legs above $4K. Stocks like KGC and KMB, though in very different sectors, remain stocks to watch.

Holding some shares is one way to stay involved while sector volatility plays out. Holding too many shares, however, can make it feel as though a favorite stock has gone from market limbo into purgatory—and, for investors who became way too bullish in the face of uncertainty, portfolio hell.

Sometimes cash management is the smarter move, at least for a while. Sometimes stocks caught in market limbo need time to prove themselves. Dry powder allows investors to watch patiently and perhaps buy back another favorite stock they once liked, made a nice gain on, and sold—only to watch it keep climbing. Maybe a market correction has put that particular stock back in play for a small test position.

A good company caught up in sector volatility and whipsawed lower may present an opportunity to buy some shares and see where the story goes from there. At the same time, starting with a small test position may help avoid catching a falling knife, as they say.

Most of us have a story like that. There is no point in belaboring it. Dry powder is not surrender. It is opportunity for the watchful.

As we celebrate the Fourth of July, it is also a time to appreciate America and not take freedom, liberty, and the opportunity for prosperity for granted.

Stock Talk: From Gold to Diapers

As the Friday market comes to a close, a few afterthoughts on yesterday.

Watching the market's ebbs and flows in real time, it is easy to draw conclusions that may later call for a more circumspect view. Perhaps limbo is only a temporary state for the miners.

As the technology sector continues under pressure, one wonders whether sector rotation may once again favor the value of gold and silver, lifting miners previously left in limbo by many investors. Bank of America recently upgraded Kinross Gold Corporation (KGC), citing many of the same characteristics discussed here since the stock traded in the single digits—earnings growth, share buybacks, a dividend, and continued growth prospects.

For that reason, on second thought, KGC remains a watch stock.

Moving to a different sector, companies producing the everyday essentials used around the world continue to demonstrate their resilience. Markets and sentiment change, but demand for everyday essentials doesn't.

Diapers, toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues, feminine care, baby wipes, and adult care products are used and needed in any economy.

That's why Kimberly-Clark (KMB) is often viewed as a defensive holding. After some due diligence, however, KMB appears to be more than just a defensive holding.

KMB's steady earnings growth, strong dividend, and continued investment in U.S. manufacturing help support that view.

KMB globally manufactures products close to the markets it serves while continuing to expand production here in the United States, investing more than $2 billion in its largest U.S. manufacturing expansion in over 30 years.

KGC and KMB... two stocks to watch.

When Things change ...

Well, Micron Technology (MU) did not disappoint Wall Street on the memory business, essentially beating expectations across the board—sales, earnings and future guidance—as demand for memory used in expanding AI data center buildouts continues to grow. Today's market response is self-evident to any observer.

Several stocks are rebounding from the previous day's swoon, but not all. In afternoon trading, both NVDA and INTC remain challenged. While much of the market is responding to Micron's blowout quarter, one wonders why certain stocks are not participating. Intel, despite all the attention surrounding its reported arrangement with Apple, remains under pressure. Sometimes the market has a different opinion than the headlines.

Sometimes a market whipsaw and subsequent bounce causes retail investors to reconsider their positions. Some decide to trim shares from a heavy position that has grown beyond "some" and harvest a gain. Others may cut a loss and move to the sidelines. Volatility can do that—it creates dry powder.

Sometimes that cash is redeployed after determining a particular sector has become dead money, at least for the time being. Gold and silver miners come to mind in that sense, for now. Things do change. The odds may also be increasing that the Federal Reserve could take a firmer stance under a new Chairman, Kevin Warsh. Some are comparing his tone to that of the late Alan Greenspan, who served from 1987 to 2006. Greenspan famously coined the phrase "irrational exuberance" before taking much of it out of the hides of bullish traders.

With today's rebound in several stocks, one has to wonder. If MU can surge 17% in a single day after reporting EPS of $25.11, handily beating expectations of about $20.00 per share, what comes next? This earnings beat is roughly double what Micron reported a year ago. Yet, at this time last year, MU traded below $250 per share and, as of this writing, trades above $1230.

Will MU continue higher on earnings-beat euphoria, or will it fall victim to sell-the-news profit taking, "priced-to-perfection" doubters, and broader market headwinds from war and inflation? Only the market—and time—will answer.

For now, a company like GFS, producing semiconductors here in the U.S. and abroad, remains a good stock to watch in this observer's view. The company continues expanding into power chips, RF technologies, silicon photonics to reduce copper interconnects, and quantum computing while supplying semiconductors used in the electronics of virtually everything.

Things change fast. Stay watchful.

Dry Powder and Diversification

Jitters about the sustainability of the AI trade, coupled with disagreements over potential tolls in the Strait of Hormuz after the 60-day ceasefire, evidently weighed on market sentiment. It seems that sticking points in both market perceptions and peace settlements hit many technology-related stocks.

Also, the newer IPOs CBRS and SPCX took notable hits, as was hinted here could happen.

Yesterday felt similar to an earlier session this month on June 6, when nearly 30 days of steady gains in technology and semiconductor stocks were smacked down in just one lousy day. We recall noting, "Poof."

Yesterday there were also reports that memory sales by South Korean companies could be facing challenges. As a result, all eyes now turn to the quarterly report from Micron (MU), due after today's closing bell. Investors will be watching closely to see whether management and analysts can quell the jitters or refuel bullishness in the tech trade.

For now, it remains to be seen whether the recent jitters are merely a shakeout or a sign that the rally is due for more of a correction.

Not all stocks got whipsawed lower.

On days when one sector gets slammed, it can be interesting to note a few stocks that held up and moved higher:

Kimberly-Clark (KMB)
Walmart (WMT)
Altria Group (MO)

This is not to say that one day of jitters in the technology sector will develop into a broader selling trend. However, diversification can sometimes help provide balance.

In another sector, the miners, it appears they may be stuck in a transitory limbo phase. Earlier, we determined that oil and gas stocks did not seem like particularly tradeable themes for many retail traders. The miners are beginning to feel somewhat similar.

It is difficult to say whether any should be considered overweight positions at current levels. It is also possible that cash, or "dry powder," may find better buying opportunities ahead. However, we continue to use the words, "maybe some."

Spec Biotech

ONCY remains on the watch list just under $1. Patent extensions and clinical progress in advanced cancers suggest there is more coming to this story. With the ongoing CRC trial, recent patent extensions, and encouraging clinical signals across multiple advanced cancers, some are beginning to ponder M&A with Big Pharma.

As always, investors should size positions accordingly and stay aware.

Sunday Edition: Can Oil Buy Some Time?

Political pundits are buzzing all over the memorandum on the U.S.-Iran desk that President Trump signed earlier.

Some for it, some against it. Many Americans seem to be left scratching their heads and saying:

"Huh?"

One factor is the condition of strategic oil reserves around the world.

With strategic reserves declining and Iranian oil production at risk of prolonged disruption, keeping the Strait of Hormuz open has become a priority.

The pragmatic part is getting oil flowing again.

The problematic part is Iran and the IRGC.

Indeed, strategic oil reserves around the world have been declining, including our own here in the United States. It is estimated that the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve is roughly half of what it once was and sits near levels not seen since the early 1980s.

Viewed through that lens, the memorandum represents an effort to finalize a broader understanding while allowing oil to continue flowing through the Strait of Hormuz over the next sixty days.

Yet many see concessions that merely kick the can down the road while leaving the Islamic Republic as a dominant force in the region.

As events unfold, it remains to be seen whether the balance between pragmatic and problematic can be found in the pursuit of a more peaceful world.

History tends to breed skepticism.

But for now, the market may not be thinking that deeply.

Hope springs eternal.

And markets often prefer business as usual—at least until "it" hits the fan.

For now, we'll leave it there.

The memorandum has been signed.

And yet, it is already off to a shaky start with Iran claiming the Strait is closed again.

The debates are underway as to what the final agreement will ultimately cost.

Whether oil ultimately flows freely through the Strait of Hormuz, and whether the broader understanding holds together, remains an open question.

Can the behavior of the IRGC be trusted?

Will its long-stated hostility toward Israel and the United States ever truly end?

The market appears willing to give peace a chance.

But with hardliners still in the mix, peace remains something to watch, not trust.

Time will tell.

Miners Revisited — This Time with Nickel Too

So, there is a peace agreement on the table between the U.S. and Iran involving the Strait being opened (with no tolls) as more details are ironed out over the next sixty days.
Regardless of how anybody "feels" about it, the markets have no feelings. Stocks react to changing expectations and evolving projections.
Today, we see the market rallying as energy stocks fade somewhat on hopes of lower oil and gas prices ahead. If so, easing energy inflation could provide a tailwind for many sectors.
Will this optimism last? That remains to be seen.
Hostilities could resume if the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Hezbollah, Israel, or others decide differently. For now, however, the market appears willing to take the peace discussions at face value and is responding as though the risk of broader conflict has eased.
Stock Talk

The Jones Report has followed a few miners since they traded in the single digits and have since doubled and more. Specifically, Kinross Gold (KGC) and Hecla Mining (HL).

It may be time to revisit the story.

When gold and silver prices fade a bit, mining shares often trade off as though the entire story has changed overnight. Yet recent earnings reports suggest the underlying businesses remain quite healthy.

KGC has reported strong earnings and briefly traded into the 40s before profit taking, sector rotation, and concerns surrounding the Iran conflict contributed to a correction in the mining sector. Today, shares appear to be bouncing from the mid-20s.

Meanwhile, Hecla Mining recently eliminated its long-term debt following the sale of an aging Canadian mine. Management has shifted its focus toward silver and gold projects near existing operations in the United States. Hecla remains the largest silver miner in America.

One factor that appears to have weighed on mining shares is concern over rising oil and gas prices. Mining is an energy-intensive business, and higher fuel costs can impact profits. Perhaps after their corrections, both KGC and HL are due for a bounce. We shall see.

Watching KGC and HL.

Keeping in mind the notion of watching developing stories, it may also be time to put another name on the radar.

Talon Metals (TLOFF).

The stock trades under $5 and, unlike KGC and HL, the story revolves around nickel and copper.

Recently, Talon acquired the Eagle Mine along with the Humboldt processing facility in Michigan.

That changes the story.

The company now has an operating U.S. nickel and copper mine, a processing facility, and recently turned the corner to positive earnings.

From power grids and data centers to industrial equipment, military systems, electronics, batteries and transportation, nickel and copper remain essential materials in the modern economy.

A profitable miner with strategic resources in the United States trading under $5 has caught the attention of some investors.

TLOFF is a developing story and an interesting stock to put on the radar.

As a closing note, strategic resources within the United States are increasingly being viewed as a cornerstone of national strength, a point that appears to be receiving renewed attention.
