I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jen, who owns Billy Goat Lawn Care with her husband, for quite a while now, as I helped them with some of their first marketing materials, including their logo, the green-thumbed Billy Goat!

So when Jen came to me about helping to set up their new website, Billy Goat Organic Lawn Care, I was super excited to work all of their marketing and branding needs into a cohesive, concrete site to really skyrocket their business to the next level.

Working with the Platinum package, Billy Goat Lawn care got an awesome look, complete with background, header, blog and sidebar set up, custom promotional graphics for their front page slider bar, plugin installation, and article content consultations to help them get started.

Leila from Life As Leels originally came to Becky and I with an html issue from a plugin – her header was mysteriously sliding down behind her blog!

As we worked to resolve the issue, Leila felt it was probably best to start from scratch – including a redesign.

Wanting something that was professional and not too-girly (since she is a mom to boys as well!), Leila was open to just about any color palette, even though pinks and browns were her favorite. We ended up with a purple and gray scheme, and used polka dot and script fonts for the header to keep everything fun but professional, without being too girly.

It’s probably no surprise that when Becky and I have down time, we often find ourselves browsing through WordPress themes. As someone who was introduced to WP coding through Thesis, I am a self-admitted Genesis Child Theme hoarder. And thankfully, Becky is always happy to oblige my desire to window shop for new themes.

This time, however, our latest adventure in browsing led to the Decor8ted theme from Eight Crazy Designs catching Becky’s eye. What better way to break in some beautiful new coding than with a redesign of your own site! And Becky’s entertainment blog, What U Talking Bout Willis, was the perfect design playground.

Becky was looking to break away from her usual go-to color schemes, and willingly handed over the palette choosing to me. I knew I wanted to go for something that was lighter and brighter, without being a total shock (what can I say? I love bright colors.) to Becky. Going with greens, teals, and browns was the perfect answer – the neutrals were airy and delicate, and very striking against bold fonts.

Working with My Saving Game presented a unique opportunity to play with a different color scheme. Michelle was looking to revamp a custom image of a fire butterfly that she used on a previous project, and we were definitely up for the challenge!

The biggest trick to making this logo work was making sure that the correlation between the butterfly and the brand image was clearly identifiable. What’s the point of a design if it doesn’t make sense, right? Part of the connection was adding an appropriate tag line that created a clear bridge between the two, by using a rather common reference to fire and finances.

Just goes to show you that a beautiful design can only take you so far without the aid of clear, concise writing, huh?

Pulling the vibrant yellows, oranges, and warm brown colors from the butterfly’s flaming wing, the color palette was lovely, but it reminded me of a fancy sports car . . . and rather masculine. Paired with some pretty script font, the butterflies ended up being an integral part in softening and balancing the overall look.

This brand new blog wanted a look that encompassed wine and cupcakes.

Um. Hello new best friend?

We took the pink pearl sprinkles from the cupcake frosting vector to make a coordinating Facebook and Twitter look that was bubbly and perfectly girly . . . and a fantastic resemblance to champagne bubbles to help pull the Frosted Cork brand together nicely.

And did we mention the super cute cork social media buttons? Possibly my favorite part of the entire look.
