Every petrolhead knows the feeling of hunting for the perfect ribbon of tarmac. You spot the apex, drop a gear, turn the steering wheel, and prepare to power out of the bend. In an older or poorly set up performance car, leaning hard into a fast corner often results in one frustrating outcome: understeer. The front tyres lose traction, the steering wheel goes light, and the nose of the vehicle wants to wash straight out towards the grass verge.

Engineers have spent decades fighting this specific physics problem. While stiffer anti-roll bars, sticky rubber, and clever suspension geometry all help, the real revolution happened when manufacturers figured out how to actively control the rotational forces sent to each individual wheel. This technology is known as torque vectoring. It is the secret weapon behind how modern hot hatches, sports saloons, and performance vehicles manage to defy the laws of physics on twisty British B-roads.

The Basics of Chassis Dynamics and the Cornering Problem

To appreciate how torque vectoring works, it helps to look at what happens when a vehicle goes around a corner. When you turn into a bend, the outside wheels have to travel a physically longer distance than the inside wheels. If both wheels on an axle turned at the exact same speed, the tyres would scrub, skip, and break traction instantly.

A standard open differential solves this path-length problem by allowing the wheels to rotate at different speeds. However, standard open differentials possess a glaring flaw for enthusiast drivers. Power naturally follows the path of least resistance.

When a vehicle leans hard into a corner, weight shifts away from the inside tyres and onto the outside tyres. Because the inside wheel becomes light and loses mechanical grip, the open differential mistakenly sends all the engine torque to that inside tyre. The result is a spinning inside wheel, smoke, and a massive loss of forward momentum.

Traditional performance cars solved this by using a mechanical limited slip differential, commonly referred to as an LSD. A mechanical LSD locks the two wheels together when slippage occurs, ensuring that the wheel with the most grip continues to receive power. While brilliant, a traditional LSD remains a reactive mechanical component. Torque vectoring takes this concept to an entirely new level by being completely proactive.

How Does Torque Vectoring Work?

Instead of simply preventing a wheel from spinning uselessly, a true torque vectoring system actively decides exactly how much rotational force to send to the left or right tyre at any given millisecond. By sending more power to the outside wheel, the system creates what engineers call a yaw moment. This means the car is physically forced to pivot around its own central axis.

Think of it like paddling a canoe. If you want to turn sharply to the left, you paddle harder on the right side of the boat. Torque vectoring works on the exact same logic. By accelerating the outside tyre, the car is driven into the corner, sharpening your turn-in response and virtually eliminating understeer altogether.

Technical Refresher: Before looking at how this system distributes force to the wheels in a corner, it helps to understand the basics of engine output. If you need a refresher on the foundational terminology, read our comprehensive guide on what torque is in cars.

Brake-Based Torque Vectoring vs Mechanical Systems

Not all torque vectoring systems are designed the same way. Manufacturers use two distinctly different engineering methods to achieve this cornering effect, and they alter the driving experience in completely different ways.

1. Electronic Brake-Based Torque Vectoring

This is the most common system found on modern warm hatches and family SUVs. It does not use specialised differentials. Instead, it utilises the existing anti-lock braking system and electronic stability control sensors to mimic a torque vectoring effect.

When you enter a corner too quickly, the car’s computer detects that understeer is about to occur. The system applies a subtle, microscopic braking force exclusively to the inside front wheel. By slowing the inside tyre down, the open differential naturally shifts the remaining engine power to the outside tyre. This tucks the nose of the car neatly into the apex. While highly effective at keeping you safe, aggressive track driving can cause this system to wear out your brake pads and discs much faster than normal.

2. Active Electronic Limited Slip Differentials (e-LSD)

This is the hardware that petrolheads truly desire. Found on serious performance machines like the Hyundai i30 N, the Ford Focus ST, and various Cupra models, this setup uses electronically controlled clutch packs within the differential assembly itself.

An e-LSD monitors steering angle, throttle position, lateral G-forces, and wheel speeds hundreds of times per second. It anticipates your driving intentions.

Before the tyre even begins to slip, the system locks the clutch packs to transfer massive amounts of engine power directly to the outside wheel.

Rather than slowing you down like a brake-based system, an e-LSD actively accelerates the car through the bend, allowing you to get on the throttle much earlier when exiting a corner.

System Type

How It Works

Pros

Cons

Brake-Based

Brakes the inside wheel to force power to the outside.

Cost-effective, lightweight, seamless for daily driving.

Can accelerate brake wear, creates minor friction losses.

Active e-LSD

Uses electronic clutch packs to send power to the outside wheel.

Maximises cornering speed, highly proactive, pure driver feedback.

Heavier, more expensive to manufacture, requires fluid maintenance.

What Does It Feel Like From the Driver’s Seat?

For a passionate driver, transitioning from a vehicle with a standard open differential to one equipped with intelligent torque vectoring is an eye-opening experience. The entire character of the front axle changes.

Instead of managing understeer by lifting off the accelerator pedal, a torque-vectored car rewards you for staying committed. When you apply power mid-corner, you can feel the chassis actively tightening its line. The car feels lighter, shorter, and far more agile than its physical dimensions suggest.

It gives the driver immense confidence, making the steering feel telepathic and ensuring that every scrap of power from modern turbocharged engines is converted into pure forward traction.

The Verdict for Petrolheads

When you are hunting for your next performance car, the technical specification sheet matters. For casual commutes, a simple brake-based system keeps you safe and secure in rainy weather. However, if you live for early morning weekend drives, track days, or navigating technical road networks, finding a car with a dedicated active mechanical or electronic e-LSD should be high on your priority list. It transforms a normal hatchback into an absolute B-road weapon.

Forget the Crowds, Find the Real Driving Gems

Every driver in Britain has heard about the big hitters. The North Coast 500. Snake Pass. Cheddar Gorge. They are legendary for a reason. The problem is that on a sunny Saturday morning, they can feel less like a dream drive and more like a slow-moving convoy of campervans, cyclists, and people stopping every 400 metres for selfies.

That’s where the real magic begins.

Hidden across the UK are secret driving roads that rarely make the glossy travel lists. They are the roads locals quietly keep to themselves. The kind of routes where the tarmac twists naturally with the landscape, where every crest reveals another incredible view, and where you remember why driving can still be genuinely fun in 2026.

These are the roads that reward precision, patience, and a proper love of driving. Better still, many sit right on the doorstep of Yorkshire, the Midlands, and North Wales, making them ideal for a spontaneous weekend road trip adventure.

If you’re searching for the best driving roads UK drivers have somehow overlooked, start here.

God’s Own Driving Country: Yorkshire’s Hidden Road Heaven

The B6270 Through Swaledale

Yorkshire has never needed to shout about its roads. It simply gets on with being brilliant.

While tourists queue up around the Peak District and battle through packed lay-bys, seasoned drivers head north towards Swaledale. The B6270 between Downholme and Nateby is one of the finest secret driving roads in Britain, yet it somehow stays under the radar.

The scenery changes constantly. One minute you’re threading through tight, stone-walled lanes with barely enough room for two cars. The next, the road suddenly opens into fast, sweeping bends across vast valleys that look like something from a film set.

It’s proper driver’s country.

Blind crests keep you alert. Elevation changes arrive quickly. The surface quality is generally excellent by rural standards, which means you can enjoy the rhythm of the road without dodging potholes every few seconds.

Early mornings are best. There is something almost therapeutic about watching the Yorkshire Dales wake up while your tyres hum across cold tarmac and while the sheep casually ignore your existence from nearby hillsides.

For drivers based around Doncaster, Sheffield, York, or Harrogate, this is exactly the kind of route that justifies owning a car you actually enjoy driving. A sporty hatchback feels perfectly at home here. Think sharp steering, good visibility, and enough punch to enjoy the straights without terrifying yourself on the narrower sections.

Alternative Yorkshire Favourite: Skipton Old Road

If Swaledale feels too remote, Skipton Old Road offers another brilliant driving road in Yorkshire. Connecting Lancashire and Yorkshire through moorland scenery, it delivers quick directional changes and wide-open visibility that encourages confident but sensible driving.

Unlike many famous A-roads, these quieter B-roads still feel authentic. You’re not driving through a tourist attraction. You’re driving through working countryside where the roads evolved naturally with the land.

That makes every corner feel more rewarding.

The Heart of England: Midlands Roads Made for Drivers

The Peak District Fringe Route

The Midlands might not always dominate conversations about the best driving roads UK motorists should experience, but that is exactly why some of its finest routes remain hidden gems.

Rather than heading for the crowded tourist hotspots, experienced drivers often stick to the quieter roads skirting the edges of the Peak District near Chesterfield, Matlock, and Ashbourne. This network of lesser-known B-roads delivers everything you want from a proper driving route without the traffic jams and packed car parks.

One standout stretch runs between Ashbourne and Winster before cutting across towards Matlock through a maze of flowing country roads. The route constantly changes character. You will find fast sweeping bends through open countryside, followed by tighter technical sections lined with dry stone walls and dense woodland.

It feels alive.

The elevation changes are particularly satisfying. Some corners seem to drop away unexpectedly, while others climb sharply towards panoramic viewpoints overlooking the Derbyshire hills. Early mornings are especially rewarding when the roads are quiet, and the countryside still carries that crisp, cool calm before the day begins.

This is the sort of road where a good chassis makes all the difference. Drivers from Stafford, Chesterfield, and Derby are perfectly placed to enjoy these routes in everything from sporty hatchbacks to refined SUVs. A smooth-riding plug-in hybrid also feels perfectly suited here, especially when regenerative braking helps settle the car through steep downhill sections.

The Shropshire Hills Loop

Another overlooked Midlands gem sits around the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Avoid the busier tourist roads and instead explore the smaller routes connecting Church Stretton, Bishop’s Castle, and Clun. The roads here rise and fall like rollercoasters across green hills with surprisingly little traffic outside summer weekends.

There is a rawness to these roads that feels increasingly rare in modern Britain.

No endless average-speed cameras. No six-lane motorway monotony. Just you, the road, and scenery that constantly demands your attention.

Mountain Magic: North Wales Delivers Driving Perfection

The A542 Horseshoe Pass

If Yorkshire offers flow and the Midlands delivers rhythm, North Wales provides drama.

The A542 Horseshoe Pass near Llangollen remains one of the most thrilling driving routes North Wales has to offer. Yet compared to famous Alpine roads across Europe, it still feels surprisingly underappreciated.

The climb begins gently enough before the road starts twisting sharply uphill through exposed mountain scenery. Tight bends stack one after another. Gradients steepen. Visibility changes constantly as the road snakes along the hillside.

It demands proper steering input and smooth throttle control.

Get it right, though, and the road feels sensational.

The panoramic views from the summit are spectacular in every season. Summer brings rolling green landscapes stretching for miles, while winter often adds dramatic mist and low cloud that turns the entire route into something almost cinematic.

For drivers near Wrexham, this road is practically on the doorstep. In fact, North Wales quietly offers some of the best driving infrastructure in Western Europe. Smooth surfaces, varied terrain, and incredible scenery combine to create roads that genuinely rival famous continental routes.

Not bad for a Sunday afternoon drive.

The Lesser-Known Alternative: Aberglaslyn Pass

If the Horseshoe Pass is becoming too popular for your liking, head further west to the A498 through Aberglaslyn Pass.

This route feels wilder and more remote. Towering mountains close in tightly around the road while forests and rivers create an atmosphere unlike almost anywhere else in the UK.

The bends arrive quickly but naturally. Every corner seems to reveal another postcard-worthy view. It is the sort of road where drivers often end up pulling over simply to absorb the scenery for a few minutes.

Unlike some mountain roads that become exhausting, Aberglaslyn maintains a satisfying flow that encourages relaxed but engaging driving.

It’s no secret why television production crews have spent the last thirty years using North Wales as a testing ground for supercars; these roads offer pure drama.

What Makes a Great Driving Road in 2026?

The definition has changed slightly over the years.

A great driving road is no longer simply about speed or horsepower. Modern drivers increasingly want experiences. They want scenery, atmosphere, and roads that feel rewarding without requiring dangerous speeds.

The best secret driving roads combine several things:

Smooth, well-maintained surfaces

Varied corner types and elevation changes

Light traffic levels

Memorable scenery

Enough distance to feel like an adventure

Good stopping points for food, coffee, or photos

Electric and hybrid vehicles have also changed the experience. Instant torque suits winding roads beautifully, while improved charging infrastructure across Yorkshire, the Midlands, and North Wales means longer scenic drives are easier than ever.

The joy of driving is evolving, not disappearing.

Final Stop?

Britain still hides some extraordinary roads if you know where to look.

Forget overcrowded tourist routes and overhyped Instagram locations. The real magic often lives on the quieter roads connecting villages, valleys, and mountain passes that most sat-navs simply treat as shortcuts.

Whether it’s the sweeping valleys of Yorkshire, the hidden reservoir roads near the Midlands border, or the dramatic mountain climbs of North Wales, these routes remind us why driving remains one of the best ways to explore the UK.

And honestly, a brilliant road deserves a brilliant car.

And if your current daily driver is not quite ready for the twists, turns, and panoramic adventures ahead, it might be time to explore the latest stock at your local Stoneacre branch and find the perfect road-trip companion.

The automotive world has seen its fair share of celebrity collaborations, but CUPRA’s latest global campaign takes a far more cinematic and emotionally driven approach. Titled ‘The Chosen One’, the campaign stars British actor Tom Felton and explores the idea that sometimes the car chooses the driver, not the other way around.

Blending pop culture nostalgia with modern automotive storytelling, CUPRA has created a campaign that feels immersive, ambitious and instantly recognisable. At the centre is a two-minute hero film inspired by one of the most memorable scenes in modern fantasy cinema, the wand selection moment at Ollivanders in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Rather than directly recreating the iconic scene, CUPRA cleverly reimagines the concept for a new audience. Here, the steering wheel becomes the symbol of destiny, connection and belonging. It transforms the act of choosing a car into something far more emotional and personal.

The campaign marks another significant step in CUPRA’s ever-evolving identity as a brand determined to challenge convention and inject creativity into the automotive sector.

Tom Felton Brings Cultural Recognition to the Campaign

Few actors are as closely linked to a defining cinematic universe as Tom Felton. Best known for portraying Draco Malfoy in the globally successful Harry Potter film series, Felton brings an immediate sense of familiarity and cultural relevance to the campaign.

His role in ‘The Chosen One’ centres around exploration and discovery. Throughout the cinematic film, he moves through different choices and experiences before finally reaching a moment where everything aligns. The underlying message is clear and emotionally driven: the perfect driving experience is not always rational. Sometimes, there is simply an undeniable connection between driver and machine.

CUPRA explains the concept perfectly in the official campaign statement:

“CUPRA introduces ‘The Chosen One’, a new global campaign placing the driver at the centre and built around a defining idea: sometimes, it is not the driver who chooses the car, but the car that chooses the driver.”

The campaign deliberately leans into emotional storytelling rather than traditional automotive advertising tropes. There are no exaggerated sales messages or overly technical explanations. Instead, the focus remains firmly on feeling, instinct and identity.

A Story Inspired by Iconic Cinema

The inspiration behind the campaign is impossible to ignore, and that is entirely intentional. By drawing from the famous wand selection scene at Ollivanders, CUPRA taps into a collective cultural memory shared by millions across the globe.

The campaign describes this inspiration in detail:

“Drawing inspiration from one of the most iconic moments in the Harry Potter saga, the wand selection scene at Ollivanders in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, where it is not the wizard who chooses but is chosen, the campaign reinterprets this symbolic reference by transferring it into the world of driving. In this case, it is the steering wheel that ultimately selects its driver, turning a familiar cinematic reference into a story about connection, identity and belonging.”

It is a smart move from CUPRA. Instead of simply borrowing nostalgia, the brand uses the emotional structure of the original moment to reinforce its own message about individuality and self-expression behind the wheel.

CUPRA’s Brand Identity Continues to Evolve

Since launching in 2018, CUPRA has positioned itself differently from traditional car manufacturers. It has consistently pushed a design-led, performance-focused identity while embracing creativity, culture and unconventional marketing.

“With ‘The Chosen One’, we explore that defining moment where everything clicks, when the driver becomes the true centre of the experience. A connection that goes beyond reason. Tom Felton was the perfect protagonist for this story, bringing a distinctive identity that reflects the bold and unconventional spirit which defines CUPRA.”

~Ignasi Prieto, Chief Brand Officer at CUPRA

That emphasis on emotion over specification sheets has become central to the brand’s wider strategy. CUPRA is not simply selling vehicles. It is building a lifestyle-driven image that appeals to drivers seeking individuality and excitement.

The Campaign Showcases CUPRA’s Expanding Vehicle Range

‘The Chosen One’ has been designed as a range campaign, incorporating CUPRA’s internal combustion engine and plug-in hybrid models into a unified narrative.

The campaign will also feature individual versions focused on key models, including the CUPRA Terramar, CUPRA Formentor and CUPRA Leon.

Patrick Sievers, Global Head of Marketing at CUPRA, highlighted the scale of the campaign:

“This is one of CUPRA’s most ambitious campaigns, supported by a global reach strategy designed to engage and inspire audiences across markets. Working with Tom Felton allows us to connect with audiences through a shared cultural reference, creating a story that fully resonates with our brand. The fact that, in its full roll-out, it will be available as a range campaign—as well as featuring the Terramar, Formentor, and Leon individually—will surely make an impact.”

By positioning multiple vehicles within the same emotional narrative, CUPRA creates consistency across its growing portfolio while still allowing each model to maintain its own identity.

Filmed Across Canada and Spain

The production behind ‘The Chosen One’ reflects the premium ambitions of the campaign itself. Developed in partnership with creative agency &Rosàs, alongside talent and rights coordination by Vampire, filming took place across Toronto in Canada and Navarra in Spain.

The combination of cinematic storytelling, atmospheric locations and polished production values gives the campaign a distinctly filmic quality. It feels more like a short feature than a conventional car advert.

This approach aligns with CUPRA’s broader commitment to storytelling as a key part of its marketing philosophy.

“Our ambition is to appeal to emotion and create a genuine connection with people. In a landscape saturated with messages, standing out and remaining relevant means committing to creativity, understood as the ability to communicate in a different, innovative and authentic way.”

~Paz de Dalmases, CUPRA Campaigns & Content Lead

CUPRA’s Rapid Rise in the Automotive Industry

In only seven years, CUPRA has evolved from an ambitious spin-off brand into one of the automotive industry’s most talked-about names.

The company has now sold more than one million vehicles globally and offers a rapidly expanding range of performance-oriented models. Its line-up includes the CUPRA Ateca, CUPRA Born, CUPRA Tavascan and the upcoming CUPRA Raval.

The brand has also become heavily involved in sport and culture through partnerships with organisations including FC Barcelona and the Formula E racing series.

That growing cultural footprint is exactly why a campaign like ‘The Chosen One’ feels so aligned with CUPRA’s direction. It is less about traditional motoring credentials and more about emotional identity, creativity and modern storytelling.

Why ‘The Chosen One’ Stands Out

Modern audiences are exposed to thousands of adverts every single day. Standing out requires more than impressive specifications or dramatic visuals. It requires emotional relevance.

CUPRA understands this.

By combining cinematic inspiration, emotional storytelling and a globally recognisable actor, ‘The Chosen One’ creates something memorable and culturally connected. It speaks to drivers who want more than transport. It speaks to people searching for personality, excitement and a sense of belonging behind the wheel.

The campaign also demonstrates how automotive marketing is changing. Today’s consumers increasingly connect with stories and experiences rather than straightforward product messaging. CUPRA’s latest effort embraces that shift fully.

For fans of film, motoring and bold creative campaigns alike, ‘The Chosen One’ delivers a striking blend of all three.

Polestar is officially entering a major new phase. Following its strongest retail sales year to date, the premium Scandinavian EV brand has revealed a massive model offensive: plans to launch four new electric cars within just three years.

This ambitious roadmap shows just how rapidly Polestar is evolving from a niche performance brand into a heavyweight competitor in the premium EV market. To back up this vehicle onslaught, the company is targeting low double-digit retail volume growth alongside a 30% expansion of its global retail network. It is a bold, confident strategy, even amidst ongoing economic uncertainty and geopolitical pressures facing the wider automotive industry.

Here is a breakdown of the three game-changing models heading to roads near you.

Polestar 4: Expanding into the Practical Estate Market

A New Variant Targeted at a Wider Audience

The Polestar 4 has already cemented itself as the company’s best-selling model. However, Polestar is about to broaden its appeal even further by introducing a highly anticipated new variant later this year, with deliveries expected to start in the fourth quarter.

CEO Michael Lohscheller highlighted Sweden’s rich heritage of practical estate cars and world-class SUVs when teasing the new model. Polestar intends to combine the spaciousness and utility of a traditional estate with the elevated driving position of an SUV—all while retaining the sharp aerodynamic styling and dynamic performance the brand is known for.

As production ramps up globally, this new variant is expected to capture a massive slice of the market, where buyers are hungry for practical premium EVs that don’t compromise on driving dynamics.

The Next-Gen Polestar 2: Reinventing the Icon

Re-engineering the Car That Built the Brand

Target Launch: Early 2027

Global Sales to Date: Over 200,000 units

Focus Areas: Battery efficiency, charging speeds, and next-gen software

The Polestar 2 remains the bedrock of the company’s identity, having officially crossed the massive milestone of 200,000 units sold worldwide. Rather than letting its pioneer model age gracefully, Polestar is aggressively developing a completely new, next-generation successor scheduled for early 2027.

EV technology has leaped forward since the original Polestar 2 debuted. The next-generation model will capitalise on these advancements, featuring:

An entirely updated electrical architecture

Significantly improved battery efficiency and faster charging speeds

Deeper, more seamless digital and software integration

The Polestar 2 will continue to serve as the gateway for customers entering the brand’s ecosystem, ensuring its spot as a cornerstone of future volume growth.

Polestar 7: Conquering Europe’s Largest EV Segment

Going Head-to-Head in the Compact SUV Market

Looking slightly further down the road, the Polestar 7 will arrive in 2028. This compact premium SUV will dive straight into the most lucrative sector in the UK and Europe: compact SUVs, which currently command roughly one-third of all battery-electric vehicle sales across the continent.

Polestar aims to disrupt this hyper-competitive segment by offering a performance-focused, family-friendly SUV at a highly competitive price point, all while maintaining strict European production standards. By mastering the balance of elevated seating positions, everyday boot space, and striking Scandinavian design, the Polestar 7 will open the brand up to its largest potential customer base yet.

The Verdict: A Masterclass in Disciplined Ambition

The premium EV space is more crowded than ever, but Polestar is carving out a unique lane. What makes this strategy work is that it isn’t just about building cars—it’s about fixing the buying experience.

By expanding its physical “Polestar Spaces” by 30% and focusing heavily on streamlined, digital retail sales rather than relying on low-margin corporate fleets, Polestar is protecting its long-term profitability and brand prestige.

With an electrified portfolio that spans executive grand tourers, practical sleek estates, and compact family SUVs, the manufacturer isn’t just trying to survive the EV transition—it is positioning itself to win it.

Kia sustainability is at the heart of a fast-changing automotive world.

Growing awareness around climate change, rising emissions, and the future of our planet has made one thing clear. The way we travel needs to evolve. Kia, one of the world’s most recognised car manufacturers, is embracing that challenge with an ambitious and wide-reaching strategy.

From the materials used inside its vehicles to the energy powering its factories, and from cleaner manufacturing processes to restoring marine ecosystems, Kia is rethinking every stage of how a car is built.

Here’s a closer look at how the brand is turning bold sustainability goals into meaningful action.

The Kia Philosophy Inspired by Nature

At the centre of the Kia sustainability journey is its design philosophy, “Opposites United,” supported by a guiding principle called “Bold for Nature.”

More than just a slogan, this philosophy influences the way Kia approaches vehicle design, innovation, and environmental responsibility.

Inspired by the natural world, the Kia designers and engineers look to nature for both practical ideas and creative inspiration.

The thinking is simple: nature is efficient, balanced, and built around reducing waste. Kia aims to bring those same qualities into every vehicle it creates.

This commitment is already becoming visible across the range. Kia is gradually phasing out natural leather, starting with the flagship Kia EV9 SUV.

In its place, the brand is introducing a collection of sustainable materials, including bio-based polyurethane, recycled PET made from plastic bottles, and bioplastics. These materials are becoming a standard part of future models rather than optional extras.

One of the most impressive innovations is the use of recycled marine waste.

Discarded fishing nets and ocean-bound plastics are being transformed into carpets, flooring, and interior fabrics. Materials that once threatened marine life are now finding a second purpose inside modern vehicles.

The Three Pillars of Kia Sustainability

The Kia goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2045 is built around three connected areas of focus, known internally as the “3S” framework. Together, they cover the entire lifecycle of a vehicle.

1 – Sustainable Mobility – Products & Services

One of the most visible commitments is its move towards electrification. The company plans to introduce 15 fully electric vehicles by 2027, from compact city cars to large family SUVs.

The long-term ambition is a fully electric line-up in Europe by 2035, followed by major global markets by 2040. The strategy goes beyond fully electric vehicles, too.

Kia continues to explore hybrid technologies in regions where charging infrastructure is still developing, while also supporting mobility services designed to reduce the number of cars on the road overall.

The focus is not only on cleaner vehicles, but on creating cleaner lifestyles.

2 – Sustainable Energy – Production & Ecosystem

Building a cleaner vehicle also means improving the way it is manufactured. That is why the second pillar focuses on energy use across production facilities.

Kia has joined the RE100 initiative, a global programme encouraging businesses to move entirely to renewable energy.

The company’s target is to power all operations with renewable energy by 2040.

To support this goal, Kia is installing solar energy systems at manufacturing sites in Korea, China, the United States, and India.

These projects represent a significant shift towards lower-emission production on a global scale.

3 – Sustainable Planet – Society & Environment

The third pillar looks beyond the vehicle itself and focuses on creating a more circular economy.

As electric vehicle batteries reach the end of their life on the road, many still retain valuable storage capacity.

Rather than sending them to a landfill, Kia is exploring ways to reuse these batteries as stationary energy storage systems for homes and businesses.

The company is also aiming to increase the proportion of recycled plastic used in vehicles to 20% by 2030. This will help to reduce waste while lowering the demand for new raw materials.

Kia is Rethinking the Supply Chain

A large proportion of automotive emissions comes not from driving, but from manufacturing materials like steel.

Since steel forms the structure of most vehicles, reducing its environmental impact is a major challenge for the industry.

Kia is addressing this by working towards sourcing “green steel” from suppliers by 2030.

Produced using lower-emission processes, green steel can generate significantly fewer carbon emissions than traditional methods.

This approach highlights a broader commitment to improving sustainability throughout the entire supply chain, not just within the factories.

Restoring Nature Through the Blue Carbon Programme

Kia’s sustainability efforts also extend beyond manufacturing and into environmental restoration.

Through its Blue Carbon Programme, the company is helping restore tidal mudflats along the Korean coastline.

These coastal ecosystems are incredibly effective at absorbing carbon dioxide and play an important role in supporting biodiversity.

By protecting and restoring these habitats, Kia is contributing to natural climate solutions while supporting healthier marine ecosystems.

Working Together for a Better Future

Kia recognises that tackling climate change requires collaboration. That is why partnerships form an important part of the company’s sustainability strategy.

Kia has partnered with The Ocean Cleanup to help tackle plastic pollution in the world’s oceans.

The partnership supports both environmental clean-up projects and the reuse of recovered materials within future vehicle designs.

The company has also worked alongside National Geographic to encourage nature-inspired innovation and raise awareness around sustainability.

Together, these collaborations reflect Kia’s belief that meaningful progress happens when industries, organisations, and communities work together.

Kia and the Road to 2045

All of these initiatives contribute to one long-term ambition: achieving carbon neutrality by 2045.

What makes the Kia approach stand out is the scale of its commitment. The goal covers the entire value chain, from raw materials and production to logistics and end-of-life recycling.

Reaching that target will not be simple; however, the Kia combination of cleaner manufacturing, sustainable materials, renewable energy, and environmental partnerships shows a clear direction for the future.

The Kia sustainability strategy represents far more than a move towards electric vehicles. It reflects a wider transformation in how vehicles are designed, built, powered, and recycled.

Take a look at the Kia hybrid and electric car range, and you can see how the Kia cars are evolving.

The journey is only just beginning, but it is certainly one worth watching.

The global automotive industry changed dramatically during the 2020s, with electric vehicles becoming more mainstream and new manufacturers challenging long-established brands. Among the companies leading that transformation was Geely.

Once relatively unknown outside China, Geely rapidly developed into one of the world’s biggest automotive groups. Through investment in advanced technology, electric mobility, and global expansion, the Geely car company established itself as a serious competitor in markets across Europe, including the UK.

In this Manufacturer Spotlight, we explore Geely Global in more detail, covering the company’s history, ownership, technology, UK model range, and the unique selling points helping Geely UK stand out in an increasingly competitive market.

Who is Geely?

Geely is one of the world’s fastest-growing automotive manufacturers and a major force in the global electric vehicle market. Officially known as Geely Auto, the company formed part of the wider Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, often referred to as Geely Global.

Founded in 1997 in Hangzhou, China, Geely initially focused on producing affordable, accessible vehicles for the domestic market before rapidly expanding internationally. Over the following decades, the Geely car company evolved into a technology-led automotive giant with interests in electric mobility, autonomous driving, battery development, motorsport, and premium vehicle brands.

By 2026, Geely vehicles were sold across Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, and the Middle East, with the brand continuing its expansion into the UK market. The company’s growth was driven by aggressive investment in research and development, alongside strategic acquisitions of well-known automotive brands.

Today, Geely Global employs more than 50,000 people worldwide and operates numerous manufacturing facilities and research centres across several continents.

Who owns Geely?

Geely was owned by Li Shufu, the Chinese entrepreneur who founded the business in the 1980s. Geely originally began as a refrigerator parts manufacturer before moving into motorcycles and eventually cars.

The parent company, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, controlled several well-known automotive brands, including:

Volvo Cars

Polestar

Lotus Cars

LEVC

Zeekr

Lynk & Co

This broad portfolio gave Geely access to advanced engineering expertise, safety development, and premium manufacturing capabilities, which helped elevate the quality and reputation of Geely cars globally.

How did Geely get its name?

The word “Geely” roughly translates from Chinese as “auspicious” or “fortunate”. The name reflected founder Li Shufu’s ambition to create a successful and prosperous company capable of competing on the world stage.

The Geely Logo also carried an interesting story. Earlier Geely logos featured a simple circular design inspired by the Earth and the company’s global ambitions. Over time, the logo evolved into the now recognisable shield-style badge featuring blue and black rectangular shapes.

According to Geely, the modern Geely Logo symbolised the sky, the Earth, and technological innovation working together. Some observers also noted similarities to cut gemstones, reflecting Geely’s aim to position itself as a more premium automotive brand.

The blue sections represented advanced technology and environmental responsibility, while the black elements symbolised strength and quality engineering.

Who makes Geely cars?

Geely cars were designed and manufactured by Geely Auto under the umbrella of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group.

However, modern Geely vehicles benefited from engineering input across several international teams. Thanks to the company’s ownership of Volvo and Lotus, Geely gained access to advanced vehicle safety systems, chassis development expertise, and electric vehicle technology.

This global collaboration became especially important as Geely expanded into Europe and the UK. Vehicles such as the EX5 were developed with international markets in mind, rather than purely for China.

Where are Geely cars made?

Most Geely cars were manufactured in China, with major production facilities located in cities such as Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Xi’an.

However, Geely’s global footprint extended far beyond China. The wider Geely Group also operated engineering, design, and production facilities in countries including:

Sweden

Germany

Italy

Malaysia

The United Kingdom

In the UK specifically, Geely already had an established presence through LEVC, which built the famous London black cab in Coventry.

Does Geely own Volvo?

Yes, Geely purchased Volvo Cars from Ford Motor Company in 2010.

The acquisition proved to be a turning point for both companies. Volvo gained financial backing and access to new global markets, while Geely benefited from Volvo’s long-standing reputation for safety, engineering excellence, and premium vehicle development.

Many Geely vehicles subsequently adopted technologies and platforms influenced by Volvo engineering. This helped improve quality, safety standards, and refinement across the Geely range.

Where does Geely have its R&D centres?

Geely invested heavily in research and development, operating five major global R&D centres located in:

Hangzhou

Ningbo

Gothenburg

Coventry

Frankfurt

The company also maintained several international design studios, including facilities in Milan and Shanghai.

This international approach allowed Geely Auto to develop vehicles tailored to global consumer expectations, particularly in Europe where buyers expected high standards of safety, technology, and driving refinement.

What Geely models are available in the UK?

As of 2026, Geely UK had launched two key models for British buyers:

Geely EX5

The fully electric EX5 represented Geely’s first official UK launch model. Designed as a family-friendly compact SUV, it combined strong practicality, generous equipment levels, and advanced electric vehicle technology.

The EX5 offered:

Is Geely a good car?

By 2026, Geely had built a strong reputation for value, technology, and safety.

While the brand remained relatively new to UK buyers, the company’s global scale and ownership of established automotive brands gave many customers confidence. Reviews of the EX5 highlighted its strong equipment levels, refined cabin, impressive technology, and competitive pricing.

The five-star Euro NCAP safety rating further reinforced Geely’s credibility in Europe.

Like many newer automotive brands entering the UK market, some buyers initially questioned long-term reliability and dealer support. However, Geely addressed this with an expanding retailer network and a comprehensive warranty package.

The Geely Unique Selling Points

Industry-leading warranty

One of the standout features of the Geely EX5 was its impressive warranty coverage.

Buyers received:

Eight-year, 125,000-mile battery warranty

Up to eight years of vehicle coverage

Four years of roadside assistance

Two years of free servicing

This placed Geely among the strongest warranty providers in the EV market and helped reassure buyers considering a newer brand.

The Short Blade Battery

Geely’s innovative Short Blade battery technology focused on efficiency, packaging, and safety.

The battery underwent extreme durability testing, including:

Open flame exposure

Extreme temperature testing

Heavy load compression

Underside impact testing

This rigorous development process demonstrated Geely’s emphasis on long-term battery safety and durability.

Flyme Auto intelligent cockpit system

The EX5 featured Geely’s Flyme Auto intelligent cockpit system, designed to deliver a connected and user-friendly driving experience.

The system integrated:

Navigation

Entertainment

Climate controls

Smartphone connectivity

Voice controls

Over-the-air updates also allowed the system to improve continuously after purchase.

Exceptional value

Geely cars positioned themselves aggressively on price in the UK market.

With launch pricing beginning at £31,990 and additional incentives available, the EX5 undercut many established European electric SUVs while still offering generous standard equipment.

Five-star Euro NCAP safety

Safety remained one of Geely’s biggest selling points.

The EX5 achieved five stars in Euro NCAP testing with particularly strong scores for adult and child occupant protection.

Vehicle-to-Load charging

Every EX5 included Vehicle-to-Load capability, allowing owners to power external electrical devices directly from the car.

This proved useful for:

Camping trips

Charging e-bikes

Peugeot returned to the Beijing International Auto Show in 2026 with a confident statement about the future of the brand. In one of the world’s most influential automotive markets, the French manufacturer used the event to showcase its growing commitment to electric mobility, intelligent technologies and emotionally driven design.

The appearance in Beijing marked far more than a traditional motor show presence. It represented a strategic move in PEUGEOT’s wider global transformation, particularly as the automotive industry continued shifting towards electrification and connected driving experiences.

China remained one of the most important regions for automotive innovation and electric vehicle development in 2026. For PEUGEOT, the market played a crucial role in shaping future products, technologies and manufacturing strategies. The brand’s return to Beijing, therefore, carried significant weight, especially as it introduced two striking new concept cars designed to preview the next era of PEUGEOT vehicles.

China Played a Central Role in PEUGEOT’s Future

PEUGEOT made it clear that China sat at the centre of its long-term global plans. The country had become one of the world’s leading hubs for electric and intelligent mobility, making it a vital market for brands looking to remain competitive in the years ahead.

During the show, Alain Favey, CEO of PEUGEOT, described Beijing as a “key stage” for the company. He explained that the event was not simply about unveiling future products, but about reaffirming the brand’s ambition on a global scale.

Favey highlighted how China continued driving PEUGEOT’s transformation in several critical areas, including electrification, innovation and premium brand positioning. The concepts revealed at the event reflected that direction, blending advanced technologies with PEUGEOT’s unmistakable French identity.

The announcement also reinforced the growing collaboration between PEUGEOT and Dongfeng, which remained an important industrial and technological partner for the brand in China.

French Design Meets Advanced Electric Technology

One of the strongest themes at Beijing 2026 was PEUGEOT’s focus on combining exciting design with cutting-edge electric mobility. The brand continued developing vehicles that balanced visual appeal with intelligent functionality, while still delivering the driving pleasure for which PEUGEOT had long been recognised.

Under its “Serious about pleasure” philosophy, PEUGEOT positioned itself as a manufacturer that valued emotion and character just as much as efficiency and innovation. At a time when many electric vehicles risked becoming visually similar, the brand sought to stand apart through distinctive styling and strong proportions.

The concept cars presented in Beijing demonstrated that philosophy clearly. Rather than producing cold or purely technology-focused studies, PEUGEOT introduced designs filled with personality, elegance and sporting intent.

This approach aligned closely with the expectations of a younger generation of customers, many of whom increasingly looked for vehicles that combined sustainability with desirability and appeal.

PEUGEOT Concept 6 Previewed a New Generation of Grand Tourers

The first major reveal at the show was the PEUGEOT Concept 6, a bold interpretation of the future large saloon.

The concept blended the sleek sophistication of a saloon with the practicality and athletic stance of a shooting brake. This combination created a dramatic silhouette that paid tribute to PEUGEOT’s heritage of grand touring estates while looking firmly towards the future.

A Feline and Elegant Design Language

The Concept 6 featured a low, flowing roofline, sculpted body surfaces and a refined aerodynamic profile. PEUGEOT described the design as both modern and timeless, with proportions intended to create a strong response.

Its feline-inspired styling cues continued the visual identity the brand had developed across recent production models, although the Concept 6 pushed those ideas further into the premium and performance-oriented segments.

The overall result felt elegant without appearing conservative, sporty without becoming aggressive. This careful balance reflected PEUGEOT’s intention to create vehicles that remained desirable in an increasingly electrified market.

Intelligent Mobility and Driver Engagement

While full technical details remained limited during the show, PEUGEOT indicated that the Concept 6 represented its vision for intelligent electric mobility in the large saloon sector.

The concept focused heavily on intuitive driving experiences, advanced connectivity and seamless technology integration. Despite the increasing role of digital systems and automation, PEUGEOT continued to emphasise driver enjoyment and engagement as core brand values.

That emphasis on driving pleasure remained especially important as more manufacturers prioritised autonomous features and software-led experiences over traditional vehicle dynamics.

PEUGEOT Concept 8 Signalled the Future of SUVs

Alongside the Concept 6, PEUGEOT also unveiled the Concept 8, a large SUV concept that previewed the next phase of the company’s SUV strategy.

The SUV segment remained one of the most competitive and commercially important areas of the automotive market in 2026. PEUGEOT therefore used the Concept 8 to demonstrate how it intended to evolve its future flagship SUVs for both Chinese and global audiences.

A Powerful and Aerodynamic SUV Design

The Concept 8 adopted a cleaner and more minimalist design language compared with many contemporary SUVs. Its smooth surfaces and carefully shaped bodywork suggested a strong focus on aerodynamic efficiency, an increasingly important factor in electric vehicle performance and range.

At the same time, the SUV maintained a muscular and confident stance. Wide proportions, athletic detailing and a commanding presence ensured the vehicle still conveyed strength and capability.

PEUGEOT described the design as “pure and essential”, highlighting its intention to reduce unnecessary styling clutter while retaining poignant impact.

The interior direction also centred on comfort, intuitive technologies and refined usability, although detailed cabin specifications were not fully revealed during the event.

Emotion Remained Central to PEUGEOT’s Identity

Both concept cars demonstrated a consistent philosophy running through PEUGEOT’s future direction. In a rapidly changing automotive landscape, the brand continued placing emotion and personality at the centre of its products.

Rather than following trends blindly, PEUGEOT aimed to create vehicles with distinctive identities and memorable road presence. The company argued that customers increasingly wanted meaningful design and genuine character instead of anonymous technology.

That approach helped separate the brand from rivals pursuing more uniform design strategies within the electric vehicle sector.

The Concept 6 and Concept 8, therefore, acted as more than design studies. They served as clear indicators of how PEUGEOT intended to compete globally in the years ahead.

Production Plans Included China and Export Markets

Perhaps one of the most important announcements from the Beijing International Auto Show involved production strategy.

PEUGEOT confirmed that future large saloons and SUVs inspired by these concepts would be produced in China for the Chinese market, while also being exported to international markets as part of the brand’s broader growth plans.

Manufacturing would take place at Dongfeng’s Wuhan production facility, combining PEUGEOT’s expertise in design and driving dynamics with Dongfeng’s technological and manufacturing capabilities.

This strategy reflected the growing importance of China not only as a sales market but also as a global production and innovation hub for electric vehicles.

PEUGEOT Looked Ahead With Confidence

PEUGEOT’s return to the Beijing International Auto Show underlined the brand’s determination to play a major role in the future of global mobility.

By unveiling the Concept 6 and Concept 8, the company demonstrated how it intended to combine French design flair, exciting appeal and intelligent electric technologies in the next generation of vehicles.

The event also showed how central China had become to PEUGEOT’s future ambitions, not only as a market for innovation but also as a manufacturing and export base for upcoming models.

As the automotive industry continued evolving rapidly in 2026, PEUGEOT positioned itself as a brand determined to embrace change while preserving the emotion, character and driving pleasure that had long defined its identity.

The UK automotive market has welcomed a growing number of new manufacturers in recent years, but few have arrived with as much momentum as OMODA. Combining bold styling, advanced technology and strong value for money, OMODA is quickly becoming a name that UK drivers are starting to recognise.

So, what is OMODA exactly?

What Is OMODA? A New Car Brand in the UK Explained

OMODA is a modern automotive brand focused on stylish SUVs and crossovers designed for today’s drivers. With a clear emphasis on technology, connectivity and electrification, the brand appeals to motorists who want premium-inspired features without premium-level pricing.

Unlike many traditional manufacturers that rely heavily on heritage and long-established designs, OMODA positions itself as a forward-thinking brand built around modern lifestyles. From digital interiors to striking exterior styling, every model is designed to stand out on UK roads.

Who Makes OMODA Cars?

One of the most commonly searched questions online is: who makes OMODA cars?

OMODA is owned and manufactured by Chery Automobile, one of the largest automotive manufacturers in China. Founded in 1997, Chery has grown into a major global automotive company with vehicles sold across Europe, South America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Chery is not a small start-up manufacturer entering the market without experience. The company exports vehicles to more than 80 countries and has invested heavily in research, development and advanced manufacturing technology over the past two decades.

This global scale is important for UK buyers considering a newer automotive brand. Behind OMODA sits an established manufacturer with significant engineering expertise, large-scale production capability and long-term ambitions in international markets.

OMODA itself has been developed as a global-focused brand within the Chery portfolio. While backed by Chery’s engineering and manufacturing resources, OMODA has its own identity, design philosophy and customer audience.

The result is a brand that feels modern and independent while still benefiting from the experience and infrastructure of a major global car maker.

Who Owns OMODA? Is It the Same as Jaecoo?

OMODA is fully owned by Chery Automobile, and it shares close ties with another growing automotive brand, Jaecoo.

Both OMODA and Jaecoo are sister brands developed under the Chery umbrella and are often launched together in global markets, including the UK.

Although the two brands are related, OMODA has carved out its own distinct identity. The focus is very much on futuristic styling, urban appeal and technology-led driving experiences. Its vehicles are aimed at modern motorists who value design, connectivity and practicality in equal measure.

OMODA models typically feature coupe-inspired SUV styling, a premium aesthetic without the premium price tag, sleek lighting signatures and minimalist interiors filled with digital technology. The brand is designed to appeal to drivers who want something that feels contemporary and different from traditional family SUVs.

Importantly, OMODA still benefits from Chery’s substantial investment in innovation, safety and vehicle development, helping give buyers additional confidence in the brand.

Where Are OMODA Cars Made?

Another common question from UK drivers is: where are OMODA cars made?

OMODA vehicles are produced in advanced manufacturing facilities in China operated by Chery Automobile. These factories use modern robotics, automated assembly systems and strict quality control procedures designed to meet global automotive standards.

Manufacturing quality has become a major focus for modern Chinese automotive brands, particularly those entering competitive international markets such as the UK and Europe.

OMODA vehicles are built to comply with international safety and emissions regulations, helping reassure buyers who may be unfamiliar with the brand. In recent years, Chinese manufacturers have significantly improved both build quality and vehicle technology, and OMODA represents this new generation of automotive production.

For many UK motorists, perceptions around Chinese-built vehicles are rapidly changing as brands continue to deliver increasingly competitive products packed with technology and strong specifications.

When Did OMODA Launch in the UK?

OMODA was established globally in 2022 before officially entering the UK market in 2024.

The brand quickly attracted attention thanks to its modern SUV designs and focus on technology-led motoring. Early UK launches included the popular OMODA 5 crossover, followed by additional electrified and hybrid models.

Stoneacre welcomed OMODA to its retailer network in 2026, helping introduce the brand to even more UK customers through a trusted dealership group with nationwide coverage.

Since arriving in the UK, the OMODA line-up has continued to grow with models including:

OMODA 5

OMODA 5E

OMODA 5 SHS-H

OMODA 7

OMODA 9

This expanding range demonstrates the brand’s long-term commitment to the UK market and its ambition to compete in the fast-growing SUV and crossover sector.

What Models Do OMODA Offer in the UK?

OMODA UK currently focuses heavily on SUVs and crossover vehicles, reflecting strong demand in the family and urban SUV market.

The OMODA 5 has become one of the brand’s headline models, offering bold styling, advanced infotainment and strong levels of standard equipment.

Alongside petrol-powered options, OMODA is also expanding into hybrid and electric vehicles to meet changing customer demand and UK electrification targets.

The line-up now includes:

Petrol Models: OMODA continues to offer efficient petrol-powered SUVs designed for everyday practicality and affordability.

Hybrid Models: The brand currently offers three hybrid models, giving buyers more efficient alternatives without fully switching to electric power.

Electric Models:The OMODA 5E represents the brand’s move into fully electric driving, helping position OMODA within the growing EV market.

By offering petrol, hybrid and electric powertrains, OMODA is targeting a broad range of UK drivers with different lifestyles and driving needs.

Are OMODA Cars Good? Design, Technology and Features

For many buyers researching an OMODA car review, the appeal often comes down to three main areas: design, technology and value for money.

OMODA Car Design and Styling

One thing OMODA vehicles do exceptionally well is stand out.

The brand embraces bold, futuristic styling with sharp body lines, slim LED lighting and aggressive front-end designs. Many models feature coupe-SUV influences, helping create a sportier appearance than traditional family crossovers.

The distinctive front grille designs and modern proportions give OMODA vehicles a premium-inspired look that appeals to younger and style-conscious buyers.

Inside, the cabins continue the modern approach with minimalist layouts, large digital displays and soft-touch materials throughout many key touchpoints.

OMODA Technology and Infotainment

Technology is a huge part of the OMODA identity.

Most models feature large dual-screen layouts incorporating digital driver displays and infotainment systems with smartphone connectivity. Wireless charging, voice controls and connected services are increasingly common across the range.

OMODA also includes a wide selection of advanced driver assistance systems, often referred to as ADAS technology. Depending on the model, this can include:

Adaptive cruise control

Lane keep assist

Blind spot monitoring

Autonomous emergency braking

Parking assistance systems

These features help give drivers a more connected and confidence-inspiring driving experience.

OMODA Value for Money

Perhaps one of the strongest selling points for OMODA UK is overall value.

Many OMODA models come highly specified as standard, with features that may cost extra on rival vehicles from more established brands.

Competitive pricing combined with strong technology levels makes OMODA an attractive option for buyers wanting modern features without stretching their budget too far.

Are OMODA Cars Electric or Hybrid?

OMODA is actively embracing electrification as part of its long-term strategy.

Currently, the range includes petrol-powered models alongside hybrid and fully electric options. The brand already offers one EV model and three hybrid models in the UK market.

As emissions regulations continue to evolve, OMODA is expected to further expand its electrified line-up with additional hybrid and electric SUVs.

This positions the brand well within the wider automotive industry shift towards cleaner, more sustainable mobility solutions.

For drivers considering the move to electrified motoring, OMODA offers a stepping stone whether that means choosing a hybrid or making the switch to a fully electric vehicle.

What Is the Future of OMODA in the UK?

OMODA has ambitious long-term plans for the UK market.

The brand is expected to continue expanding its SUV line-up while introducing additional hybrid and electric models over the coming years. Electrification, sustainability and connected vehicle technology will likely remain central to future developments.

With UK demand for SUVs and EVs continuing to grow, OMODA is entering the market at an important time.

Its combination of bold styling, technology-focused interiors and competitive pricing could help it become an increasingly familiar presence on British roads.

As dealership networks continue to grow and more customers experience the brand firsthand, OMODA’s UK presence is expected to strengthen further.

Why Buy an OMODA from Stoneacre?

Buying a vehicle from a newer automotive brand is often easier when supported by an established dealership network.

As one of the UK’s best-known motor groups, Stoneacre Motor Group provides customers with reassurance, expertise and nationwide support when purchasing an OMODA vehicle.

Benefits of buying through Stoneacre include:

Access to servicing and aftersales support

Manufacturer warranties

Flexible finance options

Nationwide dealership coverage

Support from experienced automotive specialists

For many buyers exploring OMODA UK for the first time, purchasing through a trusted retailer provides added confidence throughout the ownership experience.

Final Thoughts on OMODA

OMODA is one of the newest automotive brands to enter the UK market, but it arrives backed by the global strength and manufacturing expertise of Chery Automobile.

With bold SUV styling, impressive technology and a growing range of petrol, hybrid and electric vehicles, the brand is quickly establishing itself as a serious contender in the modern crossover market.

For drivers searching for something different from traditional mainstream manufacturers, OMODA offers a fresh alternative that blends futuristic design with everyday practicality and strong value for money.

Over the past decade, Hyundai has transformed from a brand known primarily for value and reliability into a serious contender in the performance car world.

At the heart of this shift is Hyundai N, a division engineered to deliver engaging, driver-focused cars that combine everyday usability with genuine track capability.

From the launch of the Hyundai i30 N to the cutting-edge IONIQ 5 N and 6 N, the journey of the Hyundai performance arm is one defined by rapid evolution, motorsport success, and forward-thinking innovation.

This blog explores the Hyundai N models timeline, taking you through where it all began, how the range has developed, and how Hyundai N Line models bring sporty design and character to a wider audience.

The Origins of Hyundai N Models (Pre-2015 Foundations)

Before Hyundai N officially came into existence, the brand had already begun investing heavily in its performance future. Much of this early development centred around the Hyundai Namyang research and development facility in South Korea, where engineers focused on improving driving dynamics, handling, and overall vehicle refinement.

At the same time, Hyundai established a strong presence at Germany’s Nürburgring, one of the most demanding race circuits in the world.

Testing vehicles in such extreme conditions allowed the brand to refine performance characteristics to suit European roads, including those in the UK.

A major turning point came with the arrival of Albert Biermann, formerly head of BMW’s M division.

His expertise in performance engineering helped shape the ambition of Hyundai, setting a clear direction for what would eventually become the N division.

Alongside this, the manufacturer’s growing involvement in the World Rally Championship (WRC) gave the company valuable experience in high-performance engineering, durability, and vehicle dynamics.

These early steps laid the groundwork for the creation of Hyundai N.

2015 – The Birth of Hyundai N

In 2015, Hyundai officially launched its high-performance sub-brand: Hyundai N. This marked the beginning of a new chapter for the manufacturer, signalling its intent to compete with established performance car brands.

The name “N” carries a dual meaning.

It represents both Namyang, the global Research & Development hub for Hyundai, and the Nürburgring, where its cars are rigorously tested and refined. Together, these locations symbolise the balance between innovation and real-world performance.

Hyundai built the N division around three core principles. The first, “Corner Rascal”, focuses on agile and responsive handling, ensuring cars feel engaging through twists and turns.

The second, “Racetrack Capability”, ensures that every N model can perform under demanding conditions. Finally, “Everyday Sports Car” reflects Hyundai’s commitment to practicality, meaning these vehicles are just as comfortable on daily commutes as they are on track days.

2017 – The First True N Car: Hyundai i30 N

The introduction of the Hyundai i30 N in 2017 was a defining moment, not just for the N division but for the brand as a whole.

As the first true performance model within the Hyundai range available to the public, the i30 N entered a highly competitive market dominated by long-established rivals.

Despite this, it quickly gained recognition for its engaging driving experience, combining sharp handling with a powerful turbocharged engine.

What set the i30 N apart was its ability to deliver performance without compromising everyday usability.

Drivers could tailor the car’s behaviour through selectable driving modes, allowing it to switch seamlessly between comfortable daily driving and more aggressive performance settings.

Critically, the i30 N helped reshape public perception of Hyundai. It demonstrated that the brand could produce a genuinely exciting driver’s car, capable of standing alongside some of the most respected hot hatches on the market.

View our i30 N Stock<polygon points='0 4.7 13.1180124 4.7 9.44099379 1 10.4347826 0 16 5.5 10.4347826 11 9.44099379 10 13.1180124 6.3 0 6.3'></polygon>

2017–2020 – Building Momentum and Motorsport Success

Following the success of the i30 N, Hyundai entered a period of rapid growth and increasing recognition within the performance car segment.

Across the UK and Europe, the i30 N continued to gain popularity, supported by strong reviews from both the media and customers. Updates and refinements further improved the car, enhancing both performance and everyday usability. This growing demand signalled that performance ambitions were being taken seriously by Hyundai.

At the same time, major efforts in the World Rally Championship reached a major milestone. In 2019, the Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team secured the WRC Manufacturers’ Championship, marking the brand’s first title in the series.

This achievement played a crucial role in strengthening the performance credentials of Hyundai on a global scale.

Motorsport success also reinforced the connection between the racing Hyundai programme and its road cars.

Lessons learned on the rally stage, particularly in areas such as durability, handling, and power delivery, fed directly into the development of N models.

By 2020, Hyundai had firmly established itself as a credible performance brand.

Continued updates to the i30 N, including the introduction of an advanced dual-clutch transmission, made the car more accessible without losing its driver-focused character.

This period laid the foundations for expanding the N range further.

2020–2021 – Expanding the Range: Hyundai i20 N

Building on this momentum, Hyundai expanded its performance offering with the introduction of the Hyundai i20 N.

This compact hot hatch drew inspiration from the rally success Hyundai was having, delivering a driving experience that prioritised agility and responsiveness.

Its lighter weight and performance-focused engineering made it particularly appealing to enthusiasts who value driver engagement above all else.

The i20 N also broadened the appeal of the performance range, offering a more accessible entry point into the N brand while maintaining the same core principles that defined the i30 N.

While Hyundai N models were gaining traction among enthusiasts, the brand also introduced the Hyundai N Line trims to appeal to a wider audience.

N Line models are designed to capture the visual and emotional appeal of N vehicles without the full performance focus.

They feature sportier exterior styling, distinctive interior details, and subtle enhancements to driving dynamics.

This approach allows more drivers to experience the sporty character of Hyundai N, even if they do not require the full performance capabilities of a dedicated N model.

Electric driving has come a long way over the last decade, and few vehicles have shaped that journey quite like the Nissan LEAF. Now, the all-new LEAF has achieved another major milestone after being crowned the overall winner of the prestigious Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year.

This latest recognition highlights the continued evolution of one of the world’s most influential electric cars. From helping introduce everyday drivers to EV ownership in 2010 to setting new standards for practicality and usability in 2026, the LEAF remains a key player in the shift towards cleaner mobility.

Drivers looking to discover the latest model can explore the new Nissan LEAF range at Stoneacre Nissan LEAF.

A Landmark Achievement for the New Nissan LEAF

The all-new Nissan LEAF was selected as the overall winner from a competitive shortlist of 55 vehicles from across the global automotive market. The award is judged by 86 female automotive journalists representing more than 50 countries, making it one of the automotive industry’s most respected honours.

The jury evaluates vehicles based on the factors that matter most to real-world drivers, including:

Safety

Design

Practicality

Ease of use

Value for money

Environmental impact

According to the judges, the new LEAF stood out because of its intelligent approach to electrification and its ability to make EV driving simple and accessible for everyday life.

This is not the first accolade for the latest generation either. Earlier this year, the LEAF was also named Best Compact Car by WWCOTY, further reinforcing its broad appeal among modern motorists.

Sleeker Design Meets Everyday Practicality

One of the key strengths identified by the WWCOTY jury was the LEAF’s blend of attractive styling and real-world usability.

The all-new model introduces a more aerodynamic and modern appearance while retaining the practicality that made previous generations so popular with families and commuters alike.

Its sleek profile helps improve efficiency, which in turn supports longer driving range and reduced energy consumption. Yet despite its more sophisticated styling, the LEAF remains easy to live with day to day.

Drivers continue to benefit from:

Comfortable cabin space

Practical storage solutions

User-friendly controls

Smooth electric performance

Quiet driving characteristics

For many motorists considering the switch to electric, usability matters just as much as technology. The LEAF’s continued success shows that practical design still plays a major role in what drivers value most.

Advanced Technology Without Complexity

Modern vehicles are packed with technology, but one of the challenges manufacturers face is ensuring those systems remain intuitive to use.

The new Nissan LEAF has been praised for offering advanced electric driving features without overwhelming the driver. Instead of focusing purely on headline figures, the car prioritises simplicity and accessibility.

This approach was highlighted by Marta García, Executive President of WWCOTY, who said the judges focused on vehicles that genuinely respond to the needs of everyday people.

She described the LEAF as representing “a mature and intelligent vision of electrification” that makes electric mobility more usable and accessible.

That philosophy aligns closely with what many drivers now expect from EV ownership. Convenience, reliability and ease of operation are becoming just as important as battery size or outright performance.

Features designed to simplify the ownership experience can make a major difference, particularly for drivers making the transition from combustion-engine vehicles for the first time.

Nissan’s Vision for the Future of Electric Mobility

For Nissan, this award represents more than another trophy. It reinforces the company’s long-standing commitment to bringing electric mobility into the mainstream.

Ivan Espinosa, President and CEO of Nissan, described the recognition as a proud moment for the brand, noting how the LEAF helped establish electric driving as a practical option for ordinary motorists.

He also emphasised that the newest generation continues that original mission by making EV ownership easier and more enjoyable for drivers around the world.

As governments across Europe continue encouraging lower-emission transport solutions, demand for practical electric vehicles is expected to keep growing. Cars like the LEAF are likely to remain important because they bridge the gap between innovation and everyday affordability.

Rather than positioning electric driving as a luxury experience, the LEAF focuses on realistic ownership for families, commuters and regular motorists.

Why Awards Like WWCOTY Matter

Automotive awards can influence buying decisions, but the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year carries particular significance because of its unique judging panel and real-world focus.

Unlike some industry awards that prioritise performance statistics or prestige, WWCOTY places greater emphasis on usability, safety and the everyday ownership experience.

That perspective is especially relevant in the electric vehicle market, where many drivers are still assessing whether an EV can fit comfortably into their lifestyle.

Recognition from a global panel of experienced automotive journalists provides reassurance that the LEAF delivers more than just impressive specifications on paper.

It also highlights the growing maturity of the electric vehicle market itself. Modern EVs are increasingly being judged not as alternatives to traditional cars, but simply as excellent cars in their own right.
