Chemo can cause you to have problems processing new information. It became hard to watch television or read a new book. I found that I couldn’t remember what I read the next day. Stones’ Quest was my salvation. It was easy to complete the series. In the process, I noticed my writing style had changed. This is common with authors. It takes a couple of books to find their style if they are new to writing.

Curious, I went back to my first books and saw that my style had really changed. Since I had the time, I went back and rewrote the first two books. Reading the rewritten books, I like them better than my first go around. In the process, the ending has a slight change. Nothing big, I just like it better.

With my cancer under control, I decided to publish the new versions. I’m bought them out in the hardback form. The paperback books are on sale for $10.00 while they last. Now Jasper was out in the meadow. He searched for rock that he used to cross the stream with.  Shortly, Jasper found the place where the water meandered into a shallow pool. He stopped and tried to slow his ragged breathing as he searched for his favorite place to leap across the water. The stream was not very wide at this place, but it was deceptively deep. He made the jump and was caught by a blinding white light. The glow totally surrounded and blocked his view.

“Jasper!” came the voice again. “There is a white Stone at your feet. Do not step on it, but pick it up. It will protect you from our enemies.”

The light dissipated and he blinked a couple of times as a white Stone came into view. Without a thought, he picked it up and slipped it into his pocket. Then he heard the voice urge him forward towards the grove of trees. For some reason, he felt that he would be safe there. Danger was starting to fill his heart.

With no memory of the white Stone, Jasper ran into the trees. There, he stopped to catch his breath. Finding himself tired, Jasper leaned against a nearby tree, listening to his beloved grove.

There’s something different, thought Jasper as his breathing became regular.

Book One

In the past, the trees housed numerous birds that at times seemed too noisy. Today there was total silence. It was so quiet he could almost hear his heart beating.

After a few deep breaths, he felt drawn to the crash site. He wanted to see a spaceship for himself. Leaving the tree, Jasper heard a twig snap behind him. Whirling around, he found himself alone. Slowly, he resumed walking. Again, he heard leaves crunching underneath someone’s feet behind him. Before he whirled around to see what caused the noise, Jasper felt a hand cover his mouth. Then he felt someone’s body gently pressed him against a nearby tree.

Before he could comprehend what was happening, a cloak covered him, stopping him from seeing his surroundings. He struggled, but the person held him tightly against the tree.

Two figures ran from the camouflage gel to the nearest tree. The protective shield shimmered and wiggled from their exit. Staying close to the tree, they searched the sky. Seeing no birds flying, Ghonllier leaned up against the tree and started to hum while Dapper kept guard.

Someone joined the commander’s musical communication. Dapper tightened his grip on his blaster, keeping his attention on the Snacker Vines. He was taken aback to see how many of the plants were underneath their ship. Dapper wondered how many of them had tried to kill him.

Suddenly, the hums started to sound closer. They were hearing them coming from the ground and the sky. Knowing they had made contact, Ghonllier headed back to the ship with Dapper following him at a run.

They passed through the shield of gel as a large bird came swooping over their heads, landing inside the ship. They entered the ship with their blasters pointing at a large gray eagle. The bird studied the two men as a small yellow and white calico cat ran up the ramp. The cat entered and rubbed up against the bird as he nipped at her with his beak.

Looking at Ghonllier, the bird said, “Permission to change.”

“Granted,” answered the commander.

There was a slight shimmer, and suddenly, in place of the bird, stood a young man with white hair and dark green eyes. He wore old civilian clothes that were weather-beaten and frayed at the edges.

The cat did the same thing and turned into a slender young woman with blonde hair. Her clothes were very neat and precisely tailored. She daintily brushed herself off and then cocked her head towards Ghonllier. “Well, Commander?” she inquired in a sultry alto. “Shall we proceed with the formalities?”Ghonllier blocked the entrance into the ship with his blaster pointed at the spies.

“Son.” Justin held out his hand to help Ghonllier up. “I regret to say this, but you need to leave. It’s too dangerous for you to come home now.” Ghonllier accepted his hand and stood. “I cherish every moment that I have spent with you.”

The father and son hugged for what Ghonllier felt was for the last time. He felt something coming between Justin and himself and he wondered what it was.

When Ghonllier released him, Justin said, “I’m sorry there are so many negative memories for you here.”

Ghonllier hugged him again. When he pulled away, he looked into his father’s face and said, “Father, I wish she was here with me now.”

“I know. I miss her too.”

They started to walk towards the doors. Ghonllier asked, “How do I contact you now?”

“Through Dapper; we will use the ancient Eraphin language,” answered Justin.

“I’m going to miss our talks.”

Justin nodded. “With you going rogue, I could lose my job. I’m working on keeping my job, but if I can’t, Sohmer and the Senatorial Board will be forced to remove me. You’ll be on your own then.”

Ghonllier smiled and said, “Then you can join me on my ship.”

Justin grinned and responded, “I would like that.”

The new Master felt tears welling up, walking behind Justin. He forced himself to remain calm. They walked silently down the stairs. Halfway down, Justin stopped and leaned into Ghonllier. He whispered, “Son, that memory chip I gave you is the only copy of those coordinates. Do not lose it. Go there as soon as possible.”

“Why?” Ghonllier responded, whispering.

“Just go. Consider it my last order.” Ghonllier started to ask another question, but Justin stopped him. “It’s too classified to talk about it here,” his Father explained.

Justin dropped to the next step and Ghonllier stopped him. Looking back, Justin saw Ghonllier held up the chip. “I’m not going without more information.”

“Ghonllier, please don’t do this,” Justin pleaded.

“If I’m about to desert I-Force, I want to know what I’m walking into.”

Justin sighed. Walking back to Ghonllier, he leaned in to whisper in his ear. “Son, trust me. You’ll find a clue to your new crew.” He stepped away before Ghonllier could respond. “Well, I’m glad for your visit,” Justin announced loudly.

Dapper and Justin exchanged looks. Ghonllier knew his father was finished with the discussion. So he followed him out of respect.

He lost their tracks shortly after finding them. So he circled back. This time, he landed on the path near the place where he saw their tracks disappear. Expecting to feel soil underneath his claws, Bert found himself disappearing beneath the ground.

Everything went dark as Bert found himself descending down into a tunnel. Confused, he tumbled down a dark hole numerous times before he landed on soft dirt. Dazed, Bert just lay there before he slowly picked himself up. I wonder how far I fell? he thought, looking upwards for some reference.

The place was dark and dank. He struggled to see, but his acute vision wasn’t allowing him to see his surroundings. If he changed into a man, he could use the field glasses to see. Staying a bird, he felt, was his only out. Above his head, he could smell fresh air. One last time, he tried again to contact Celia with no success.  I need to get out of here and get back to our ship. Spreading his wings, he lifted off, flying up the tunnel. Luckily, it was just wide enough for his wingspan.

Following the scent of fresh air, he felt something brush by his wingtips. A root had extended itself out into the tunnel and somehow it grabbed hold of his right wing. Pulling away from it, pain shot throughout his body, causing him to cry out. It resonated in the darkness. His body went limp, and a falling sensation overtook his mind along with the pain. He tried to pull the wing into his body, but it wouldn’t respond. The pain took over, causing him to fall down the tunnel again. When he hit the bottom, he went into unconsciousness.

Ghonllier,

I know there are numerous Master’s between us But the Master Stones have shown you unto me. I know that you are a descendant of mine. I can see the fear in your heart to become the Master of the Galaxy. Do not be afraid of what the Stones are asking of you. For I see, you do not want to be the Master. This will be a grave mistake if you don’t accept the mantel.

The Master Stones have shown me your time and I’m writing this to you in hopes of helping you stop the curse that has been placed on our family. The war you are in isn’t your brother’s fault. It is mine or at least it is because with me. It hurts me to see my beloved galaxy being torn apart in your time.

I do not know if the Master Stones completely understand what caused your war. They could or would not tell me because it isn’t my place to stop it. I know it feels like a huge burden being placed on your shoulders. It is your job and destiny to stop the destruction of this galaxy.

From personal experience, I can tell you that your greatest weapon will be knowledge. Seek it and learn about my time so you can understand the origin of this curse.

To be the Master of the Stones, you need to completely free yourself of any negative feelings or thoughts. The Master Stones cannot work with a person who has negative issues. The Stones cannot function on negative thoughts. You can’t help but have them with all that I see in your days. But you will need to rid yourself of it.

The curse came from your great, great grandfather. He placed the curse on our family out of anger towards my wife and myself. He is her father. He is an evil sorcerer who has caused the people of my days a lot of grief.  I know my wife’s father was upset about his powers being past on to half-breeds, as he called them.

Your sister is very gifted and she has great powers. Protect her. She is important to you and the Master Stones. Together, the two of you can stop the curse and rule the galaxy together. You will become the most powerful Masters of the Galaxy because you’re twins. You will be the first Master to have duel leadership and powers. Use them wisely and the two of you will go down in history as the greatest Masters of the Galaxy.

Let go of your fears and be the man. May you prevail is my wish. I hope this helps you. Your loving great, great, grandfather,

For five years of my life, I had been a real estate agent and enjoyed it. Finally at the end of my fourth year, I decided to get my real estate brokers license. After, I received it. I made the choice to go out on my own. For me, it was the smartest thing, I ever did.  What happened next made it possible for me to deal with the changes that were about to take place in my life.

It was November 2000 and for the first time in my career, I had sold my entire inventory. It was strange to have no buyers either. In my area, November and December are traditionally our slowest months in real estate. Ever though, I have written and presented offers on Christmas Eve. This year, it was going to be different. I was tired and grateful to take a break.

Five days into my vacation, I had the most bizarre event take place in my life that has permanently changed my life. I woke up discovering that I couldn’t speak. My voice was gone. When I tried to force a whisper, it caused my lungs to go into long coughing spells. If I laughed, the coughing spells would appear. It sounded and felt like I was coughing up my lungs.

The problem didn’t make it easy for me to go out into public. I wasn’t sick. The doctors couldn’t find anything wrong with me. They just called it a virus assuring me that I would have to ride it out. Little did I know that it would take me ninety days for my voice to return and my lungs be able to take a deep breath again.

The winter was long and cold. We had little wind and storms in our area. When you live in the tops of mountains, you can easily get an inversion where the cold air is trapped to the floor of the valley. This happens when you have little wind or storms. Even if no one lives in the valley, it can happen.  Our inversion spread from Provo, Utah to Pocatello, Idaho and it was thick.

I struggled to go outside and breath the air that winter. Never in my life had my lungs been a problem for me, so why was the winter of 2000 to 2001 different. My health problems trapped me inside a room in my home. I couldn’t be away from the humidifier or air purifiers without my lungs coughing to hard it could cause my bladder to have problems.  They weren’t portable. So every morning, I picked a room and stayed there all day breathing fresh, moist air.

In November 2000, I did not have an email address and I don’t think I knew someone who did. Maybe, I did know someone. I just didn’t use them because I was terrified to write. I do know they weren’t as popular then as they are today. Either way, I had to write down my thoughts on a note pad if I wanted something. Remember, I told you earlier that I found writing emotionally painful and it terrified me.

This virus seemed to perfectly design to force me to face my fears. In the process, I discovered something very special regarding me. Those ninety days, I spent trapped in a room with a humidifier and air purifier has forever changed my life. It changed my career and how I view the world in away, I cannot ever go back…

In real estate, I was constantly on the go physically and I had to use my mind daily. You are always thinking about how you are going to sell someone’s house or help a buyer find their dream house. With nothing to think about, I was lost. This was a new feeling and it left me frustrated and panicky. What if I never get my voice back?

Years ago, I met a woman who had lost her voice and all she could do was whisper. It was something permanent with her. The thought seemed to torment me. Would I become like her? I needed to think about something else. But what?

It was nice to see my children. I’m a mother of six. They were all adults at this time so I was really left me to myself. My oldest son didn’t live too far from me and he would stop by often on his way home from work to see how I was doing. It surprised him to find me one day in my office with my air purifier and humidifier. It took work to move everything back and worth.

He wondered, what could I possibly being doing in there? I couldn’t use the phone and I had no email address. Quickly, he started to pressure me into divulging my activities. Successfully, I sidestepped them.  I didn’t want to tell him why I was there. It embarrassed me to tell him that I was writing a story. I started to dread him stopping by. I was having fun and I didn’t want my newly created world to be shattered by him telling me that I couldn’t do it.

I would like to take you back to why I decided to move my friends into my office.  After a couple of day in my bedroom, I decided to move into my office, looking for something to keep me from going stir crazy. It was worth the work of moving everything, if I could find something to entertain my mind that would allow me to avoid my thoughts. The woman I talked about earlier had permanently lost her voice and could never speak above a soft whisper. I remember her story was surrounded by a mysterious illness. My situation was so unique it reminded me of her.  It concerned that I would end up like her?

I wanted to do something that would help me not think about her. So I moved into my office finding nothing that I could do without my voice. Shortly after being in my office, an idea came to me. What if I could write a story? Immediately, I went into a panicked state. The thought had triggered my past emotional pain. The panicked feeling dissipated when I promised to never allow anyone to read it. Secluded in my office, I felt protected and the story seemed to ward off my negative thoughts. Little did I know that I was about to embark on the most fantastic journey. It was beyond anything I had ever imagined.

I had no clue that I was a creative person and my mind was starved to be one. Since, I had never allowed myself to ever think or do anything with writing. I used to make fun at being a writer. My favorite phrase was, “Why write it when a picture could replace a thousands words.” If it weren’t for this experience, I would’ve never discovered a hidden talent, love and passion for something that I had thought to be unattainable.

One thing, I did years ago before this experience. I took some classes on how the mind worked. We learned that our thoughts are always vibrating and moving. This is why sometime, we can be talking with someone and we both get the same idea or thought at the same time. We both happened to latch onto the same vibration as the thought. So our minds had the same thought.

I wanted to be a receiver of a new thought.  Today, I needed it to be a story. So I asked my mind to connect with a wavelength of one and bring it to me. Being a mediating state, I kept my mind clear, waiting for something to happen. How long I sat there, I do not know. I just sat there until it happened.

“Time Out, I hate time Out.” The words started to flow into my mind and I immediately started to type them into the computer. The story changed my life and I dearly love it.
