As Amitabh Bachchan once quoted in Namak Halaal ".....I can talk English, I can walk English, I can laugh English, I can run English, because English is such a funny language....."

Come to the South and you'll find characters from various walks of life murdering English in cold blood as you stand there wondering "What was that?". One can often find the best laughter recipes in Tamil inside as well as outside the cinema hall. This write-up will introduce you to some of the sentences which contain words that actually mean the same and are used twice or more than twice in the sentence which only iterates the purpose behind the sentence.

The sentence, the translation and the situation:

"Frontla yarpa athu munaddi?" loosely translates to "Who's that in front of the front".

Situation: I heard this in a bus while I was going to a client's office near Chennai city center. Thanks to the conductor, it made my day. Fine, he was just finding out if the guy standing at the front had bought ticket.

"Gate kadhava sathu" and "Nadu centerla" loosely translate to "Close the gate door" and "In the center of center" respectively.

Situation: Though the first sentence sounds fine when you hear it the 1st time, a little introspection will make you think otherwise. This gem came up during one of those least productive late night discussions with friends and so did the second one. Okay, the person asked someone to close the door or the gate, oh wait..!

"Mel topla lerunthu edu" and “Salt uppu pass panu” loosely translate to "Take it from the top of the top" and “Pass the salt salt” respectively.

Situation: You can often hear these at roadside restaurants around Chennai which primarily serve Barotta, Dosa and Idli. The subject asks the server to pour some Sambar without stirring as it would disturb the vegetables settled at the bottom of the vessel. Now what in hell’s name is “Salt Salt”…?

A little introspection on what drives them to speak the way they speak:

I would like to narrate an incident which happened here. There was this guy who was trying to explain it to a shopkeeper something pertaining to the exchange of wrong currency notes in English and was failing miserably. He ended up confusing the shopkeeper and the shopkeeper said, “Sir, Is it necessary to speak in English at this moment when there is a queue behind you?”.

While North Indians are famous for their mispronunciations, South Indians as I have seen them suffer from wrong-word-at-wrong-place syndrome. The urge to insert English words here and there stands as the main reason for the birth of such sentences which ultimately become clichés and make people like me write useless blogs about them.

This strongly applies to my travelogue. So, if a what-is-what of Siliserh (pronounced as Sil-sed) Lake or Alwar is expected, then i am sorry that you will be disappointed :).

The Plan
I really needed to get a break from the monotonous routine of home-office-home. I was planning to hit the road. A list of probable destinations was made and i started striking out the least possible ones, considering the strict time frame of 1 day. I thought Lansdowne can be done in a day, but on seeing some forums, i got an idea that i can't do justice to the beauty of Lansdowne in one day.

Sariska, coz, i love wildlife and seeing them in flesh would be exciting. I was bored of watching them again and again on channel number 69. But, this destination was turned down because of unavailability of adequate information like contact number of the tiger reserve, days on which it is open for visitors and charges and the like.

So, Siliserh Lake Palace it was. I zeroed in on today i.e 21st November 2010, as the day to burn some rubber. I promptly googled the route and took a print out of the same. For a second opinion, i searched the route in MapMyIndia but Google it was.

An exhaustive check list of things to carry was made, and it looked like as follows(this may not be the correct order, i am poor at prioritizing) ;)

Engine oil - For top up
Drinking water
Cash - :)
Map
Chain lubrication oil
Gloves
A chain lock
Camera (Just see the quality of pics, the 2MP camera in Nokia e63 is nothing but a joke)

The journey

Foggy day. But i love to drive any day. I started my trip sharply at 7:15 am and headed to an ATM to get some currency. The tank was already half full, so i didn't feel the need to go to the petrol bunk for a fill up. But, i had a doubt that the rear tire was leaking and checked it up. I was right and was rightly charged with Rs. 10 for the tire valve, but i paid only Rs. 5 - see my tyranny! But, i knew its price value is not more than Re.1.

Hit the road again. The weather was simply fabulous, mind-blowing and awesomeness was in air. No, i am not exaggerating. I crossed the Delhi-Noida-Delhi toll and was riding at early 70's with only a countable number of vehicles on road. I increased my speed to early 80's to warm the tires up. I zoomed past the Gurgaon express way in 35 Mins flat, and made a record (crowd applauds), coz, this is the quickest time i have ever done Delhi-Gurgaon, even though this is the route to my office. I was thoroughly enjoying my ride and my beast was responding fantastically. I cruised at 75 Kmph and gradually twisted the throttle for a boost, till 85-90 Kmph.

Though Google hasn't disappointed me till now, i chose to confirm the route with a regular commuter of these routes. I met a truck driver at Manesar toll booth and got the exact directions. I had my breakfast at McDonald's, Manesar. Ordered a Veg McMuffin. Please don't ever try Veg McMuffin, it sux......!!! I badly wanted a cup of tea and decided that a tea stall is an economically correct decision. A tea @ Rs. 27...!, Do they make tea in a gold vessel?

The ride was getting better and better until i got stuck in one of the greatest things which accompanied the boom in automobile sector..A traffic jam..! I somehow squeezed between the vehicles and thus started my tryst with "Roads leading to Rajasthan".

Wait wait...tryst with..WTF.. i got stuck again, No, Google or the truck driver weren't to be blamed as i had been reading the map upside down for a while, as in, correct route but locations interchanged. Wish, Google had a map reading tutorial..*facepalm. And Eventually, i was on my way to Jaipur instead of Alwar. My killer vision caught a sign board playing hide and seek behind a tree and i found that i was heading nowhere. But, a traffic jam, yes..again, turned out to be a blessing in disguise, otherwise this travelogue would have been of " Destination unknown" instead of "Alwar". Instead of taking a left for bhewadi from darushera, i went straight on seeing the nice road ahead, how so greedy of me...!!

I hit back, but this did cost me a precious half an hour and some fuel. The clock had already stuck 10:15 Am. and i was no where near to Alwar, no sign of even a sign board. I retraced the route and successfully crossed the milestones of bhiwadi, tapukara and bahadurgarh zipping..woooohhh..what a ride it was....!!, finally reaching Alwar at 12: 00.

Siliserh lake is at distance of 13+ Kms from Alwar, and comes on the way to sariska from Alwar. Now, the printout was not clear this time and I followed the say of rickshawallahs. I am damn sure by this time that some of lucky ones chosen by me for explaining the route further, will never forget my face in their life. I asked, i questioned their intellect, i crosschecked routes with other guys, thus fueling a war of words among them. and i did this with as many as four guys, as i didn't want to end up in an unknown place. The roads till then i.e. from Delhi till the right turn to Siliserh were 99% awesome. Now, the road to Siliserh lake was narrow, dug here and there and poor to the core which gave my as well as my bike's rear some really bad beating. I was mad and hungry and some how wanted to reach the lake palace, so i rode at 75 KMPH through out this terrain. Catch my drift..?

By seeing the inclination of trees, one can guess the direction of the wind. The wind influenced my speed greatly. Light two-wheelers at high speeds may just go out of control.

But a thing worth mentioning is the food at the dhaba, just below the siliserh lake. I didn't eat a lot but the Dal fry and Tawa roti (3 pieces) were scrumptious and finger-licking-good (oops, did i violate a copyright just now).

The Return

The Up time stat of 5 and a half hours, beaten to the pulp. I came home in flat 3 and half hours. Reasons,

I knew the route at the back of my mind now and I did not eat McMuffin.

Had a quick evening tea at gurgaon toll and back to home.

I was in Kerala last week and it definitely lives by its caption of being "God's own country",as the color Green dominates any color for that matter on the Land.While i was en route to Trivandrum,i was informed that Trivandrum would be Shut Down due to Hadtal by the transport people out there.I was sad that tis Holiday is soon gonna meet its tragic end and i would be back to home with some forgettable memories of this place.But,i was wrong.We got a taxi from the Railway Station(Fortunate to get one during a Strike),met some relatives i have never seen before and straight away went to Airport to catch a Flight which was Scheduled at 12:45 PM.Reason being ,the very appropriate time of Bandh between 7:30 AM till 6:30 PM or so.There weren't a lot off people out there,as i believe they didn't get a Taxi to get there.I was in a impression that i am gonna spend the odd 5 and half hours plucking the grass at the garden and feeding the crows.I came to know that the Trivandrum Airport is situated at the shore of Arabian Sea.I decided that i will go to beach to get some fresh air ,rather than spending 5 hrs in God Damn airport,watching foreigners eating Bread & Jam.
So,there i was,at the beach, hardly 1.5 Kms from Domestic terminal and 1 Km from International.Suddenly ,i felt that the privately held transport authorities are correct and frequent hadtals must be welcomed in Kerala,as People will be able to enjoy the scenic beauty of the shore,who miss this visual treat ,thinking about the Flight which they gonna miss if late.
I saw fishermen pulling the net outta the sea and decided to lay by hands on the rope and feel the net.It was damn heavy and not easy to pull.These fishermen had big arms and built, and were as fit as hell.
Some Facts :

Owner of the net is the one who jumps into the water after a while to figure out how much of the net is yet to be pulled out to get a sight of the fishes caught.

Usually,it takes 3 Hrs to pull out the net

Maximum money earned during a single catch till then..6 Lakhs

40 % Share to the Fishermen,who divide them among themselves

I helped them pull out the net and started contemplating a reward in the form of a Fish.I am a Veggie though.During all this net fight i happened to meet a NRI from Dubai,who had similar expectations as mine.But,he was a damn hardcore Non-Vegetarian.Finally the net was out and i was standing there with my shirt with the beach sand all over the place and it would have been hard to figure out the original color of my jeans.The NRI bought 25 of the catch for 200 bucks.We got a Yamaha Motorboat Engine also as a Catch which was damn heavy and a good catch though,as i fisherman told me that they would sell it of for some 20K +- and share the currency.The crows followed me to the beach and had a scrumptious meal as the fishermen neglected the small fishes and left them to scavengers.

Though the catch was not big,But the experience was !!

The Puke and The Click !!

Basically,the metro ride is a too-short-to-remember -ride.But,today my journey was a memorable one,though in a disgusting sense.Usually i don't bother to get a seat for myself,but i thought to sit down this time.

I wouldn't have imagined this ,not in a metro for god’s sake.I didn’t know what was the matter with the guy who was sitting beside me.He was constantly changing his sitting posture and gave me a feeling that something was disturbing him,may be a Back ache,Mosquitoes or the guy sitting @ his right,i didn’t have a hint.He would have thought “I will let you know soon buddy “.4 stations past,4 to go.I heard a sound which, i have heard not quiet often and i realized,he had puked.I was at my reflexes.I was fortunate enough to come out of this battle bruise free.(In a disgusting sense,not a drop on me.(just to bring a touch of reality to the reader)).I stood up and ran a few yards,probably 10 yards.All eyes on me as i sighed a relief that i came clean.Fortunately, for the people who had to bear the residue of a puke,a metro official was travelling in the same compartment,had called the authorities of the next station and had reported this,for a quick cleanup.You don't have to be a Sherlock Holmes to find out that this guy had Hangover of an Eight PM drink.I am ain’t even Byomkesh Bakshi,coz,if i was,then i would have found out that he was drunk,by seeing his activities,sitting beside him.

I got down,wondering what did he have,what was the proportion of mixing and so on.I was in a hurry too,as it was the last bus to My GHAR. I was about to cross the Token gate(as i call it), i was called by a guy who was with his friends.He asked me to take a snap of his friends and him.I was reluctant in the beginning,and advised them that taking snaps in metro premises is an offence,but they said,one snap with friends doesn't matter.I agreed.Click i did.The next moment , I was caught and the guard took me to the authorities right away along with the camera ,its owner and his friends.I said that i was reluctant ,and was asked by these guys and i knew that this was against the law.Authorities,didn’t agree with my say and demanded Rs.200 as a punishment or Jail.Meanwhile,a metro official took me out and asked me to delete the snap taken.I said you can take the camera its not even mine.LOL.He left me and my two 100 rupee notes intact in my purse.I came out ,and thought to slap myself,coz,i hear the announcement daily about do’s and don’ts in a metro,and still didn’t abide by the rules.Now,i understood that metro ain’t a blueline bus service,its a network of national importance and a brush with the law can make one count bars.

DELL..papa please…and in comes my PC(Wasn’t this much easy to persuade my dad,i was giving just a gist of the long debate).

I was watching John Rambo yesterday and experienced the big screen at home after many years.Sylvester was all over the monitor .The ease and fun of usage is inexplicable.I bought a PC,when i was in 11th standard and just managed to pass to land up ion 12th.And,consequently,i just managed to get into a college.It took me four to five major events/decisions/happenings in life,to understand the fact that,i have not got anything easily in life..LOL.I own a laptop and its mummy board was “owned(crash,boom,bang)” by me.No laptop can withstand a run of 12-14 hrs once switched on and i have done that many times in the past 2 and half years.

So guyz..DELL’s got some changes and some good ones too.As follows..

1.No PS2 ports : Have they become obsolete???

2.Speakers : Thank good it saved a power port from my UPS.The speakers run on USB power.

3.The most important.THE CPU STATUS INDICATION is @ the back of the Tower : No more clothing on the CPU,can watch a movie while lights are off.

4.My rating : 8.5/10

No matter it was mom's effort..repeated calls..each time the decibel increased...radio switched on...and i wake up eventually after hearing my name for 20-25 times approx(ya,i counted).I stepped out to get milk disheartened that i was deprived of my sleep.Coz,i had slept after burning the mid night oil over a movie.Well,i dont regret that coz,the movie was just awesome.NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN,guyz do watch it.Its engaging,story is perfect and flawless direction.The psycho hitman's performance is hard to forget.The story revolves around a guy who finds a briefcase full of cash near a dead guy,after following a trail.Mexicans have a drug deal,but not satisfactory though and end up killing each other over a dispute.The hitman uses some kind a gun,which i wiki-ed later and found out the name.Its called as captive bolt pistol.I saw its usage for the first time,and was impressed by the way this guy used it to open locked doors.True words,its an oscar material.

Yeah,so i was on the way to get milk from diary when i came across a LiL girl on the way to school.She was yawning,oh boy,she was looking damn cute.At that moment i felt that fine dude,only you haven't been deprived of your sleep.I hated getting up early,but i loved going to school.DTEA was like that.Awesome years,Classic classes,Nice canteen.The day which had mechanical drawing period,was the best day of the week.As,I was walking down the memory lane,within moments i reached home.

This was my first encounter with the delhi monsoon while driving and it was just a bad bad experience.Bajaj Chetak,has been the soul bread winner for Bajaj Automobiles since long and still does not disappoint its owners,well..its a wrong statement.I was on my stallion when the rain god started the down pour.The clouds were dark ,but not dark enough to stop me .I stepped out and started my scooter,which was behaving normally till then.When i crossed the main gate,i got the real feel of the climate,it was awesome.Awesome time for sitting in the balcony and enjoying a hot cup of strong tea.I was thinking about the tea,when i dodged to cows,heading nowhere.I was just across the bridge road,when a drop of water, hit my right eye.And within a minute,the breaking news,

"Heavy Showers Bring Relief in East Delhi".

But,no relief for this guy,on his green stallion.Showers were damn strong and accompanied with wind,gave me a hint of some catastrophe to happen.I stopped for a shelter and left my scooter for a water wash.I did not know the implications of this,as i said before that, this was my first encounter with the monsoon while driving.I called my sis and assured her that i would be @ the bus stand in 10 min.I barely crossed 50 meters, and the situation worsened.I was forced to take shelter again.Started again,Stopped again,Nearly fell down.The 1st gear was smooth,2nd was equally good,but 3rd and 4th gears were impossible.But,still i wanted to reach the bus stand asap.I saw a cart fall down and the same incident happened again within 20 meters,t'was like a deja vu.I was fortunate enough to avoid a big bump,avoiding a crash.All this time my stallion was pretty good,except some minor jerks and hiccups.It took me a while to realize that i was the only guy,who was on a 2-wheeler,on that road.Finally i reached the stop,met my sis.

Huh..time to head back...The scooter refused to start........WTF......I became an joker with a helmet on,kicking hard.At this moment realized that ..My 103 Kg stallion has got castrated (LOL),and it needs some rest to start.The rest of the story is evident from the fact that ...MY SHOULDERS ARE STILL PAINING...

The English premier league,or for that matter any league outside india,telecasted is a treat to watch.Simple reason being,SOCCER,it isn't like cricket that drags through out the day(even 20-20's are boring sometimes).I am not saying this because of the recent cricket overdose.At the same time i praise STAR CRICKET for showcasing this cricket-mania in a positive manner,by publicizing this using a celebrity like John Abraham(Remember the ad??).

India vs Lebanon.Nehru Cup.

At first i thought t'was Libya vs India,as the scoreboard in Zee Sports showed LIB 1-0IND.Eventually,i was wrong.The FIFA has given the code of LIB to Lebanon not LEB,cause in french lebanon is République libanaise.Unfortunately,the score remained the same till the end.I strongly believe that if this kind of performance persists, then the defending champions wont be even in final 3.Passing was awful.
Sur Kumar,was the defender,and his passes never reached the intended person.Bhaichung,was unlucky,why did he get the yellow card???Wasn't his fault at all.The free kick that hit the target for Lebanon was bang-on,and the Indian goalie,was stunned.It was always a 4 lenbanese-2 Indians scenario in the forward.

Hmm.tough game for india.and brothers there's more to come.

I found a news bit,that was awesome and thought to share this wid u guyz.

Booze flowed free for over 100 villagers, including women, who partied hard after a truck carrying foreign liquor overturned on NH-5 in Jajpur district.Most of the villagers, who are daily labourers, had not tasted foreign liquor and the orgy left them intoxicated. While several people skipped work the next day to sleep it off, as many as 10 villagers were admitted to a hospital after suffering severe hangovers. They were discharged after preliminary treatment.

This is what happens when people get something they never had before.These poor villagers are being envied by the villagers of Gujarat,as they have been going thru a phase of liquor ban.Even if they get to drink something,tats local and definitely not foreign.

I was waiting for the next update hoping that some weird incident like in the movie Hangover could catch up the media's scrutiny.

Interesting note:Liquor can be purchased in Gujarat after a prescription from doctor,for medicinal purposes and foreigners need to get permit to drink in hotels.

CV as they abbreviate,is a vital doc as far as the job search is concerned.The most important things in your CV are of course your Qualification Summary/Skill set.But,another thing which carries equal weightage is the email id u have mentioned in your CV.

Yahoo users!!!(yahoo.com/.co.in,rocketmail.com/.co.in,ymail.com/.co.in)

Ever tried changing your domain to .com if .co.in or vice-versa and sending mail to the ID.You will fail to do so.!!!!.In an overconfident manner people generally dont look at this mistake and forget to remember the domain they have mentioned.This will naturally result in failed correspondence from the prospective end and the guy/gal will no even bother to check out the mailer daemon notice.

So watch out..and All the best wid your job searching....

The kongu exp(erience)

Today,i went to the nizamuddin railway station to receive 2 friends ,coming by Kongu Express.These guyz were called for an interview in CSIR.The train was late by 20 min.Blessed are these people ,cause the same day earlier,Tamil Nadu express was 6 hrs late and followed by GT which was 8 hrs late(GT usually comes before TN).

The platform ticket...

I don't understand the funda that in the months of May and June the platform tickets are not issued ,the reason being the crowd of commuters.But i don't understand,why is it being issued the rest of the year,this is not a solution to tackle the crowd.I understand that revenue generation is one of the priorities of The Indian Railways,but it should not be ,at the cost of time being spent by the people in queue.Despite of having 8 counters,the tickets are issued only in 4 of them,not at all sufficient for a station that experiences a crowd of a hell.

The people out there...

Annoyances are inevitable.Standing in the queue,i was constantly tested for my patience to erupt.The guy before me had wrapped around his neck a towel,the moment it slipped he threw it back in the place,and thereby slapping that towel on my face in that process.The guy behind me,heard his train's announcement and started shouting at his voice's best,not on the ticket-counter clerk,but on my ears.Moreover,the queue is common for all ticket seekers for ,express,Local,passenger,goods(LOL).

And the cherry on the cake was,no autos where found,as it was auto strike today.Good God.

I dont complain coz,i know tat many people like me would have complained before but in VAIN.

Vista OS.the 10GB hard disk space-seeker has always made me to ask for more space.When i bought my lappy with a space configuration of 160GB, i did not know that 160 GB is not enough for a movie-buff like me.This misjudgment resulted in a disaster,i used to have 4-5 app crashes(i heard tats a space constraint problem) and an extremely slow PC.Within a week,i had free hard disk space left as 666 MB out of 160 GB,huh.

The reason..I had 60 GB of movies,20 GB of softwares and 25 GB of docs and misc stuff..
I started to wonder Wat shall be done,and i went for disk cleanup,i found tat the hibernation files were using some 2.5GB of files (as u can see applications are not closed when one hibernates the pc).i promptly deleted them and was happy to have a 3 GB space back.

Here the problem occurred,naturally i was not able to hibernate my pc and the usual shutdown-restart procedure persisted.This cycle used to get my system to a operable state only after 15 min of essential procedures.

As i hate slow,crap pc's,i was forced to conclude that space=overhead was better than time=overhead.The solution was to restore my hibernation files,but how????
I hit upon a procedure,its like....

1. Click the Start button.

2. Select All Programs.

3. Select Accessories.

4. Right-click on Command Prompt.

5. Select Run as Administrator.

6. When the UAC prompt appears, click Continue.

7. Type powercfg /hibernate on and press Enter on your keyboard.

8. Close the Command Prompt window.

9. Reboot your PC.

I blame vista as it has least to offer for the 10 GB space(approx) it takes.....
