The Folly of Central Planning

From the Minnesota State News: Going green cost rural electric ratepayers in Minnesota more than $70 million last year, according to the Minnesota Rural Electric Association (MREA).

Going green cost rural electric ratepayers in Minnesota more than $70 million last year, according to the Minnesota Rural Electric Association (MREA). The MREA represents about fifty mostly small, rural electric co-ops and utilities which serve more than 625,000 Minnesota homes and businesses.

“It’s an enormous subsidy. You have to add wind power, whether you need it or not,” said Mark Glaess, MREA executive director. “Right now we’re paying for wind we don’t need, we can’t use and can’t sell.”

What has happened to the taxpayers of Minnesota will also happen to the taxpayers of Australia.

The Gillard government’s Clean Energy legislation is an attempt to dictate market supply and demand, and it will produce the failure that this kind of central planning always produces – a massive waste of taxpayers’ money. As a result, Australian taxpayers have to pay energy costs well above current market levels at a time when their disposable income has become more and more restricted. It’s yet another demonstration of the folly of central planning.

Thanks Labor.

Radical Environmentalists & The Crusade To Ban Palm Oil

I have written extensively in the past about radicalenvironmentalists blackmailing businesses, and the damage this is causing to the Australian economy.

And it’s just gotten worse.

I have just received word that these radical environmentalists are planning to restart a campaign to blackmail businesses which should worry all Australians. If they get their way, the results would be a disaster for us.

In June, Rio de Janeiro will host the "United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development" - a continuation of the 1992 summit which brought in Agenda 21. Among other things discussed will be an effective boycott – or even a ban – on using palm oil. If they get their way, the results would be a disaster for us. It will hurt consumers, it will hurt farmers, and it will hurt our entire economy – at a time so many of us are already struggling.

We need to take a stand – now!

Bob Brown and the Australian Greens tried something like this in 2009. Senator Nick Xenophon, a so-called “independent” who supports the tax on carbon dioxide and the Green Agenda in its entirety, also tried to push through his own version of this bill recently.

They failed then, but if we are not vigilant, they will sneak this through while we are all focussed on fighting the tax on carbon dioxide.

And they are certainly trying - not only is this on the Rio Agenda, but they have started a campaign to ban it outright in Australia.

This is something that might not seem too important at first glance. Why should we care about palm oil? Or production in Indonesia or Malaysia?

The reason is simple: if the radical greens get their way, prices for everyday goods in Australia will increase, putting further pressure on Aussie families. Plus, our farmers - who depend on it as a cheap, efficient, effective oil - will be even worse off.

This is a global campaign being masterminded by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in the US. It turned over around $240 million per year, and can dictate to national affiliates to pressure businesses like McDonald’s and Woolworth’s only to stock products which are approved by greenlabel systems set up by WWF. Palm oil is found in baked goods, cosmetics and other consumer goods. Now they want to dictate to Australian beef producers. When businesses baulk, Greenpeace greenmails them.

What’s more, in Malaysia and Indonesia, over two million workers and small farmers depend on the palm oil industry not only for salaries, but healthcare, housing, and education. These workers depend on the industry to provide for their families.

What do you think will happen with two million people suddenly unemployed persons on our doorstep – because of our policies?

These extremists have already successfully blackmailed Cadbury, and are now calling on governments to impose restrictions that will benefit no-one, but hurt Australians. A detailed research paper by Tim Wilson from the Institute of Public Affairs has extensively covered this issue, and I strongly encourage everyone to read it and be aware of what is occurring.

Aussie families and Aussie beef farmers are already facing tough times. We can’t let these radicals make it even worse.

There is an online petition calling on Western Governments to resist these extremist attempts. I would strongly urge you all to sign.

A great post by my Pal, Barnaby Is Right

You know those Liberal Party state opposition leaders, who promised to fight the carbon tax if only you would elect them premier?

As predicted here on this blog, they are all talk, no action, when it comes to actually fighting the bankers’ CO2 derivatives scam, despite plenty of expert legal advice that there are solid grounds to challenge the legislation in the High Court.

From the Age (emphasis added):

NSW drops carbon tax challenge

THE passage of the carbon tax has received a boost, with legal advice to NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell suggesting that a High Court challenge to block the tax would fail.

On Friday, Mr O’Farrell said NSW would consider joining a potential bid by Queensland to block the July 1 implementation of the carbon tax in the courts.

Note well: O’Farrell’s original, loud and oft-repeated pre-election promise was not conditional on having another State premier to hold his hand.

But The Sun-Herald understands Mr O’Farrell has already abandoned any thought of leading an assault on the Gillard government. Sources confirmed advice had come back that a legal challenge would be likely to fail in proving the carbon tax was unconstitutional.

So, advice that you are “likely” to fail is sufficient reason to not fulfill your pre-election promise, hey Bazza? Sounds like a convenient excuse from a twisting and turning liar to me.

Mr O’Farrell has made political mileage out of the carbon tax since it was announced. Last week, the NSW Energy Minister, Chris Hartcher, blamed the upcoming impost for the 16 per cent electricity price rises approved by the independent pricing regulator.

The reluctance of NSW to challenge the controversial tax is likely to slow momentum for a High Court bid. Victoria, like NSW, has said it would consider joining a Queensland bid.

The West Australian Premier, Colin Barnett, has stated publicly that his advice is that a bid would fail. The Queensland Premier, Campbell Newman, said he would not act without at least one other state with him in alliance.

The fix is in.

Unsurprising. And just what this blogger predicted.

Because when all the major political parties are beholden for the loans they need to run their election campaigns, to the banksters who are behind the global drive for a new, legal, yet wholly unregulated, unmonitored CO2 derivatives casino, you know in advance what the outcome will be.

Know thy real enemy.

Special thanks to BarnabyisRight for the allowing me to reproduce his post.

Remember Audi’s Super Bowl “Green Police” spoof video?

Well the spoof from the commercial may not be far off from becoming reality with the announcement that the US Department of Homeland Security is creating new “environmental justice” units that will be empowered to oversee regulations in conjunction with local government.

In its Environmental Justice Strategy document, the DHS says the idea is to “include environmental justice practices in our larger mission efforts involving federal law enforcement and emergency response activities” and to incorporate environmental justice in “securing the homeland”.

The DHS sees its role in promoting “environmental justice” as not just limited to overseeing reviews of its own operations, but also “through regulatory permitting activities” in conjunction with state, local and tribal governments.

The DHS’ environmental justice strategy follows calls by Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano for the federal agency to start battling “climate change” as a national security issue.

Just as Jim Hansen, the head of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, has recently likened man-made global warming to “a great moral issue” like “slavery,” a group of 49 former NASA scientists issued a letter to NASA Administrator Charles Bolton asking for the administration refrain from including “unproven and unsupported remarks” about climate science in its communications.

The letter, sent at the end of March, includes former scientists, astronauts and two former directors of NASA’s Johnson Space Center who believe climate science is “not settled” and wish for NASA to look at all available scientific data before making claims of carbon dioxide’s “catastrophic impact”.

Several blogs that do not consider man-made global warming a done deal, such as Watt’s Up With That, have recently picked up the story and posted the full letter.

Here’s it is:
