Been trying to motivate myself to bring "me blog" out of hiatus and the only things I can muster up any energy or interest to talk about are Hannah Ricketts' tour of the remodeled Battersea that was years in the making [that I meant to write about a year ago][worth a full watch]...how all of sudden there are all these different weather models (i.e., European) and this Liquid Mike song that I'll post here and may or may not actually listen to in full and review later.
Heath Ledger as Joker Level
++On an old rerun of 25 Words or Less someone told Meredith Vieira that she was having a "hot girl summer" and without missing a beat she said "more like a hot flash girl summer." lol, luv her!
++Super wild/fascinating to me that a John Mulaney burn from 15 years ago has been living rent free in Tom Papas' mind all these years. #JimGafficant
++Great recent appearance by Patton Oswalt on Conan's podcast where he has both terrifying and heartening takes on AI, and the importance of a gradual buildup when it comes to comedy, like the last half of this old clip with Julia Louis-Dreyfus at the height of her beauty. Plus he's reading Robert Caro too. Everybody's doin' it!
++Obviously there's no way to prove it, but back when I was an influencer I popularized the spelling/mispelling of the word "woah" and the word "vibes" and regret it terribly...
++Just gonna use this space to keep track of consonants that are disappearing in our language. I think about this all the time! I've noticed that for Gen Z's in particular, at least in YouTube videos, the word "important" is now almost always pronounced as: "impore-ant." Like across the board, racially speaking for their generation. And while it may not be true for all Canadians, those from Toronto usually refer to it as "Torronno." And in Southern California.. decades back people used to call San Bernardino "San Berdu"...and now a lot of weatherfolk call it San Berdino. Where have all the consonants gone?
++Speaking of consonants...and the Food Network...I think I've maybe seen every episode of "Beat Bobby Flay" and there is part of the opening intro sequence where Jesse Tyler Ferguson sings the words "Friendly Competition" and whenever he does I always sing it to myself as "Quiet Desperation." And chuckle.
++In the time away from the blog I've been consuming as much if not more than usual, Audible stuff in particular like Babel and the whole LBJ series (both very satisfying)...but literally the one thing I've wanted to blog for months now is a quote from a Whitney Cummings podcast (on YouTube) where she was talking to someone who used to work as a clerk at Sephora and he talked about how customers would egregiously try to return things for a refund when it was obvious that the product had been used. One lady tried to return the expensive La Mer moisturizer and he (the clerk) smelled it, and then tasted it and said: "Ma'am, that's mayo." That one quote has made me laugh for months now. Gotta find joy where you can...
++Finally figured out yesterday why Bill Gates has been buying all the land in the US and suspect it has something to do with water rights.
++A few years ago while all of you were getting infected with Covid I got hit by this song by binki and it hasn't left me since. I call it Long Binki, symptoms include "the SPAHNs", "the WOWs" and blaming others for feeling stressed, as well as feeling nauseous, rabies-like mouf foaming and crying like lizards. Probably the best thing about the song is how supportive his hype man is, lol.
And! A classic track for the youngsters looking for some fun funk that doesn't get played enough anymore. Buon appetito!
Hey, it's been a while!(Been sittin on these drafts for quite some time, lol...)
++After literally watching thousands of interviews, I did it. I found the best one.
++For whatever reason I keep having conversations where people talk to me about singers' vocal ranges. One guy told me about Adele's lack of range and another country singer's range that goes so low that it can only be heard by animals. I refuse to research this.
++If I knew how to use photoshop I'd do a historical rendering of the early American guide Shaqajawea
++There is nothing that will convince me that Spanky from Little Rascals didn't grow up to become Rick Caruso.
++People all impressed by Paul McCartney's organic process creating the song Get Back in dat documentary clearly do not remember this masterpiece!
++Two songs I've enjoyed recently:
A few songs I've been listening to this week....
++Where was I when this came out? Better late than never. Big advocate for when ladies pull the Belinda Carlisle guttural growl out of their repertoire. Big ups.
++Terry Gross always comes out of hiding for the cuties.
++Sadly, the old US weekly phrase "stars, they're just like us" refers to the fact that they need to do stuff to save/make money too.
++All the Indian casinos changing their names to something unpronounceable out of the blue. All' uh sudden.
++Thought from about 4 months ago: Huh, Constance Wu is married to Honus Honus. Huh.
Resurrecting these two beauts/masterpieces for any Young Ones who might accidentally happen upon on my musical planet. (Along with titles this time in case the videos disappear as they sometimes do):
Tears for Fears- Sowing the Seeds of Love:
Omega-Gyöngyhajú lány:
++If anyone is *still* coming here looking for new reccs I'm afraid I'm of no use because allz I listen to these days is deep cuts of The Guess Who and Tommy James and the Shondells.[1968, let's goooooooooo!] Ol' TJ was operating on another level for his time. His songs might finally be with the times in 2070.
Fun facts: Tommy James is still alive and kicking and people from across all walks of life and social strati love Crystal Blue Persuasion.
++Body Snatchers: What's with the weird phenomenon of companies using actors who look and sound like other more popular actors in tv commercials? You got one guy doing a clearly bad impression of Nick Offerman and another lookalike toning down Jason Bateman's snark. One thing I recently figured out is that the Kevin Hart commercial where he is yelling across the street at his neighbors was a nice subtle way to have him socially distance during covid.
