Canada might have finally lost its mind. They are talking about giving Naturopathic practitioners the ability to write prescriptions. That's right. The same power we reserve for actual doctors will now be wielded by those folks who use our bodies own magical fields to cure us. Wow. Also, our own health care reform has come up with a fun loop hole. If it passes as is, sounds likes waiting until you get a serious health issue would be the best time to get health insurance. This should be a fun topic.

Chocolate Milk, Abortion, and Gay Rights

Parents and Nutritionists are up in arms about chocolate milk in schools. They want to remove it, even though aside from a little bit of sugar, it is a very healthy drink. Far healthier than soda. Also Congress is upset about abortion being covered in universal health care. Plus, the Mormon church finally did something good for gay rights. Unfortunately, the fact that we are just now removing discrimination laws in parts of this country, is just sad. We should know better.

The Iraqi government is buying magical bomb detecting wands. They work very much like a Ouija board. At only 60,000 dollars a pop, this magical device is a steal. Goldman Sachs and Soda Tax

Goldman Sachs has paid back their bailout loan and is now handing out huge bonuses again. Shouldn't a company be allowed to pay their employees whatever they want as long as they don't have our tax money keeping them afloat. Also we talk about the Soda Tax being proposed. Health Care and Saturday Mail

The Post Office of the United States is losing a fortune and they think part of the solution to their problem is the elimination of Saturday Mail. Although I think Wednesday would be a better day to eliminate, does it really matter if we only get mail for five days a week? Communication has evolved and there are many other ways to correspond with people and businesses. Speaking of change, Health Care has also been a hot topic of late. So before the Death Panels get me, I figured I would tell you all my plan to fix health care. I think I have the hybrid system to make everyone happy. What do you think?

Texting While Driving and Comments

It's time to stop creating a million laws when one will do. Just make a distraction law already and be done with it. I don't get it. These sites seem to be focused on the idea of creating self importance and allowing each of us to take a passive interest in other peoples life. Was email too tricky for you? Do you really need the 140 character update to let me know you are on the toilet? But, these sites are popular and people seem to enjoy them. So I don't mind you having you fun on the internet, that is until it gets hacked and you all freak out. If these sites are so important to your life that missing them for a few hours causes you to feel naked, you need to find another hobby. Enjoy the internet for as long as you like, but don't become so attached to it that your life crumbles when it goes down. Like a portfolio, your life needs to be more diversified.

Double Standard

As I have said before, bigotry is disgusting. Everyone deserves to be treated equal and have the same opportunities in life. But in an odd twist, I want to examine another half of this argument. People using their 'different' societal standing to their own benefit. Using things like your race, sex, physical handicapped, and the like to your advantage hurts our progress towards equality. I am trying to examine this magic shield that seems to be used far too often.

Minimum Wage

The Government is raising the minimum wage on July 24th. I find myself in the odd position of not being sure where I stand on this issue. My initial feeling is that raising the minimum wage does not help the economy. I tend to think it will eliminate jobs and increase our already high unemployment. But I am willing to debate any issue. So let's delve into the arguments for and against the raising of a minimum wage.

Religion and the First Amendment

When you want to demonstrate how important something is, you make it first. The First Amendment is one of the most crucial and necessary amendments in the Bill of Rights. In a strong showing of the important need for separation of church and state it opens, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;..." Those words seem pretty clear to me. A country motto of "In God We Trust" and a Pledge of Allegiance that includes under god clearly violates the First Amendment. Both this motto and pledge should be declared unconstitutional and changed. So as we wait for that change, lets not carve these things into the walls of the Capital. It will only force us to pay for more masonry work in the future as we cover them up. Freedom of religion means that our government doesn't get to shove your god down my throat.

Cigarettes

I hate Cigarettes. They are smelly, nasty, and an insane waste of money. But I don't think my beliefs should be forced upon the entire nation. People should have the freedom to pollute their body in any way they see fit, as long as it doesn't interfere with my personal health. The government just passed new legislation that allows the FDA to control the cigarette industry. Haven't we learned that the government sucks at everything? Why do we keep putting them in charge of stuff? Yet again it's time for parents to step off of the sidelines, be parents, and teach their children about the dangers of smoking. If those kids still decide to smoke, that wonderful stupidity, is simply an exercise in freedom, and sometimes, freedom causes cancer. Let's give people the right to kill themselves however they see fit.

Thinking seems to be a luxury more and more each day. Modern business seems to have completely lost the ability to think. Continental Airlines was too dumb to see a preventable lawsuit coming. Authors, Musicians, Actors, and Studios are too set in their ways to comprehend the future and the digitization of their mediums. In order to keep running a successful business one needs to think about the future. Business as usual is the mindset of our crumbling industries. Business evolves, just like we do.

Government Workers

Government Workers demonstrate ineptitude and laziness on a scale I can hardly comprehend. They manage to suck at their job while taking twice as long as a private sector employee would in order to complete the very same tasks. Yet they can't be fired and have no motivation to ever try harder. Another fine example of our government trying to help, and causing a disaster.

Bigotry is an ugly word. It encompasses all forms of discrimination. People all over the globe are fighting hard to make sure that each and every person has the same rights as everyone else. Here in America, a country that should really know better, we have seen an appalling rise in discrimination. The main focus of this current push for un-equality stems from the opposition to gay marriage. All Men Are Created Equal. That saying applies to every person in this country, regardless of who you choose to love. Discrimination was wrong when it happened to you and its wrong if you let it happen to someone else. Let's all help America truly become the land of the free.

Freedom, Suicide, and Drugs

Washington State has just allowed their first assisted suicide under their recently passed "Death with Dignity" law. This is a fantastic example of the freedom that we preach in this country, but so often prohibit. I love seeing people have the right to make decisions that affect their life. Now all we need to do is legalize drugs, prostitution, and all the other victimless crimes. Freedom isn't just a word, it is supposed to be the concept that our country is founded on. I think it's time we started letting people live that way.

Straight Tax

Taxes should be fair to everyone. We shouldn't have a sliding scale depending on what your make. This overly complicated tax code has created endless loopholes utilized by those savy enough to find them. The more you make, the less you pay. The more kids you have, the less you pay. The dirtier your accountant, the less you pay. The government's only solution is to increase the taxation on the rich. I say bring equality to the tax system. Let everyone pay the same percentage. Time for a fair tax code.
