Damaged pallet racks should be reported and replaced with new pallet racking immediately. Even minor damage should be inspected by a professional so they can determine if the racking should be repaired or replaced.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) estimate that 20,000 workers are injured every year because of pallet rack related injuries, 100 of which are fatal. These accidents result in lost work time, worker’s compensation claims, and productivity losses. Scheduled inspections are crucial in reducing the risk of injury as well as making timely repairs. The Rack Manufacturer's Institute (RMI) suggests monthly inspections. Furthermore, warehouse personnel need to be keenly aware of the potential severity of a warehouse accident due to damaged racks that collapse.

Storage Systems Company provides companies with quality customized storage solutions creating efficient and productive working environments. As a market leader, Storage Systems takes pride in their safety measures when installing their storage units. Storage Systems helps to ensure that your pallet racks are safe and up to the proper standard, and can advise you on rack repair or new racking, if necessary.

Storage Systems uses racks that are certified RMI 97 (Rack Manufacturer's Institute), confirming they were made with the most stringent safety procedures.
As steel prices have increased steadily since November of last year, the net change has been significant. They are generally responsible for distributing to the regions south and west of Ohio. Their complex in Cincinnati consists of a brewing and bottling facility and a warehouse used for shipping.

Problem/Challenge: Sam Adams had an excess of uncategorized materials around their facility with no clear solution or system for organizing those materials. Parts were not stored in any family or machine groups. Without a clear method of organization or designated space for the storage of many items, they had difficulty keeping track of materials, making it generally impossible to have an inventory snapshot at any given time. Furthermore, there was a potential risk of unauthorized usage of equipment or for essential items to go missing simply because they had no designated areas in which to store them or an organizational system.

Storage Systems Solution: After analyzing the layout, storage, and organizational challenges facing the brewery, Storage Systems Company was able to design a storage solution in Sam Adams’ shipping area to properly categorize and store different materials, as well as maximize their use of space.

Storage Systems used wire fencing and “small parts” shelving – 7 feet high x 36 inches wide x 18 inches deep with adjustable shelves on 1.5 inch centers – to create four caged areas in which to store and categorize supplies and other excess inventory around the facility. All the shelves are adjustable to meet the cubic capacity required by the parts to maximize their use of space. The wire fencing protects parts from inadvertent use.

The four caged areas now provide separate areas in which to categorize different supplies— one is used for cleaning supplies, one for sample shipments that includes a computer on which employees can enter a UPS code and easily send product samples, one for human resources and miscellaneous supplies, and finally one for payroll items that need to be under lock and key.

Results: Now that the brewery has clear, designated areas in which to store their varied supplies, overall organization has greatly improved. As a result, employees can quickly and easily find and retrieve the materials they need. The brewery was able to eliminate old or obsolete parts that were no longer applicable. And they can have an accurate picture of inventory at any given time, and identify and prevent potential losses. Most importantly, this storage solution ensures that appropriate personnel have access to these materials when they need them most, increasing productivity.

Lista Solutions for Automotive Dealerships

Storage Systems Company recently installed Lista Workstations in several area automotive dealerships including Honda of Marysville, Buckeye Honda, Joe Morgan Honda, Mini of Louisville, and Tafel Motors-Louisville .
CINCINNATI – If you have been putting off that big purchase for your company, now may be the best time to buy. Storage Systems Company (http://www.storagesystemsco.com) is reminding businesses to invest in themselves this year and take advantage of a very important tax incentive. Under this incentive, businesses can write off 100 percent of capital expenditures in 2011 and only 50 percent in 2012.

Under section 179 of the IRS Tax code, businesses can deduct the full purchase price up to $500,000 of qualifying equipment and/or software purchased or financed during the tax year. This essentially means that if you buy (or lease) a piece of qualifying equipment, you can deduct the full purchase price from your gross income. This incentive was designed to help businesses, large and small, invest in themselves. Prior to this year, businesses would depreciate a purchase over a period of 7 years. After 2012 this depreciation schedule will be back in effect.

“Now is a great time to invest in some of those bigger purchases that can serve as major upgrades to your facility,” said Bill Judd of Storage Systems Company. “We are seeing a lot of businesses update material handling storage equipment, as well as products that improve energy efficiency, like fans and lighting. Damaged pallet racking is frequently the cause of preventable accidents and injuries. So, if you’ve been putting off replacements or repairs that would improve your business, now is certainly the time to update your equipment. This is the case of an investment that will pay off in the short run, and those do not come along very often.”
