It would have also be a good marketing for many small businesses with cats. This was when I literally had too much time on my hands.

Then something happened between then and now. I got busy. I started graduate school this spring. I have had one solo art show in February and have been preparing for three that will be opening next week. Aside from this site I maintain many others, as well.

And frankly, ideas ran out -- without influx of new store cat tips. I was counting on a community involvement -- sending in their favorite store cats in their neighborhoods. That did not happen. With Facebook page and Feedburner subscription data, there are only about 30 people who read this site.

Then there is a financial issue as well. I registered the domain name storecats.info -- which is about to lapse soon. I was able to get this cheap for the first year, but the second year it will be a regular price. The reality is storecats.info has been underutilized.

So I am shutting this down.

In the mean time, however, I have an alternate idea. This will be a participatory project called Kitties in the Cities. The Kitties in the Cities makes use of a blog, a wiki, Twitter and Facebook to maximize participation. You will be informed of this development soon here, but be sure to bookmark this site as "storecats.blogspot.com" rather than "storecats.info" or "www.storecats.info".

Mapping the alley cats.

Portland programmer of social apps, Max Ogden, is working on an interactive street map of Portland where users can add their favorite alley cats. http://ur1.ca/1zqac

Spot Magazine: Keep Pets Safe on the 4th

An important reminder from the Oregon Humane Society. Hence Rootie, the name.

Anyway you will learn a great deal about this Cat if you can spare a dollar.

There is a Street Root at many street corners in downtown Portland, from whom you may purchase a copy. Especially in England most historic Cathedral is known for its Cat resident.

Kimberley Sherwood, the head sexton of Portland's Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, says she has seen a few feral Cats around the Cathedral grounds.

But apparently Trinity Cathedral is rather into dogs. After all this is home of the Canon Dr. Marcus J. Borg and his wife, the Rev. Canon Marianne Wells Borg, exceptional dog lovers. It has been even suggested that their dog be officially canonized... I mean appointed the official Canon Dog... or Ca-non-ine, not to be a saint!

On April 11, Trinity is receiving the new bishop, the Rt. Rev. Michael J. Henley. Maybe he might like the idea of this little tradition.

Wolfie at the Salisbury Cathedral (Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary), Diocese of Salisbury, CofE

The Catheral Cat of the Canterbury Cathedral (Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Christ), Diocese of Canterbury, CofE

Louis at the Wells Cathedral (St. Andrew's), Diocese of Bath and Wells, CofE (Facebook)

The Cathedral Cats of the Ely Cathedral (Undivided Holy Trinity), Diocese of Ely, CofE (Cat 1) (Cat 2)

Cats and more cats at... Green Lake was one of my favourite places in Seattle (I used to live on First Hill).

Thanks Vanessa! Happy rest of Furday and Caturday!

Tosh is a tortoiseshell kitty who turned 13 this March. She has lost most of her teeth already which gives her a snaggle-toothed look. She is the queen of the bookstore and likes to play the menacing gargoyle role from the shelves.

My only boy, George, is an orange tabby. He is a bit on the large side but he is the sweetest cat alive. He has to be to put up with the other two. He turned 12 this March. George likes to sleep in his bed high in the shelves but he will come out and put on a show for customers when he gets hungry enough. Tosh and George do not come down from the shelves to mix with the customers. They are friendly but they both try to sneak out the front door.

Pixel is the newest member of our family and very mischievous. She is a white Turkish Angora. I believe she is around 6-7 years old. She has always been skittish around people but recently has decided that she likes them enough to become the official store greeter. She is allowed to mix with customers but we keep a watchful eye on her. She likes to watch the birds outside but she is thankfully too scared to try to get to them.

Store Cats of Seattle: Balderdash Books

<img style="display: block;
