Long-term followers of this blog are aware that I am positively obsessed with Dimension 20, a tabletop anthology series that does a different world and sometime seven system every season. I have written glowing reviews of previous seasons, such as ‘Dungeons and Drag Queens’ and Cloudward, Ho!, and ‘City Council of Darkness’ was shaping up to be one of my favorites.

But then it came to its end, with a finale so off the rails it kind of killed the show for me. And so for my monthly exclusive (something you can find on my Patreon, Substack, or website), I wanted to talk about what I think it did so terribly wrong.

A little while ago I wrote about about food insecurity in America and how it was getting worse, arguing:

“…this decade is set up for a lot of potential shocks. Water supplies in the Colorado River and the Siera Snowpack are dwindling. Crop yields threaten to lower as temperatures rise. Harmful monocropping practices open food producers up to a bunch of vulnerabilities, including blight...And all of these shocks will only be worsened by a financialized farming system that does not prioritize feeding all people.”

Over four years have been passed since that declaration, so for an exclusive post, I wanted to do a quick check-in on this article’s conclusions and see how close (or far) we are from that alleged Great American Famine (see We Might Be Headed For a Great American Famine).
