2 Years | 4.5 Years: Catching Up

noreply@blogger.com (Waldron Faulkner) — Sun, 07 Oct 2012 23:52:00 +0000

Too long since I've posted photos. Here are a few favorites from the past few months.

Kids in the bleachers at the baseball diamond in the Boston Common:

This is August and his good friend at the playground. I like it because it has a sort of "Camelot" feel to it... like they're pondering some weighty matter. These two probably were, actually.

August at his grandparents' in Idaho last summer. Pretty happy kid!

Snapped this one of Lela as I was composing our family photo below... really captures the real Lela:

And... the whole "flamily". Except Watson, who wouldn't particpate.

August: Poop! Poooop!
Daddy: August, that's enough. No potty talk, please.
August: Pee! Peeeee!
Daddy: AUGUST! That's enough!
August: .... I was saying the vegetable, Daddy. Pea.
(pause)
August: Pea! Peeeaa!
Lela: You're poo poo, Daddy. You're poo poo!

One of August & Lela's "new" aunties came to visit Boston last week.

Google Plus Killed the Photos

noreply@blogger.com (Waldron Faulkner) — Sun, 14 Aug 2011 12:47:00 +0000

Looks like I've fallen victim to a known danger of Google+. When I started my G+ account, all my Blogger photos (Blogger is owned by Google) were automatically displayed (not imported, as I and many other assumed). So when I deleted those albums, I permanently deleted all existing photos out of this blog.

You'd think Google would have learned their lesson about automatically grabbing stuff between properties when they had all that flack from the launch of Buzz. Apparently not.

I'm exploring options, but unfortunately I don't have a lot of local backups of blog photos in context, and I'm uncertain how I'll ever be able to figure out which photos belong where. Will try to piece it back together, but not sure how successful I will be.

Depression.

Update: Have a strategy for replacing from archives, but it is slow and tedious. Will take some time.

14 Months | 3.5 Years: Daddy Weekend

noreply@blogger.com (Waldron Faulkner) — Sat, 09 Jul 2011 22:35:00 +0000

Believe it or not, Mary has never spent a night away from her baby/ies. Until now.

So it's two good full days and one night with Daddy only; first time ever. So far we're mostly through day-one, absolutely no problems. Lela has grown up quite a bit in the past few months, and I don't think she's as desperately attached to Mommy as she once was. It wasn't too long ago that Mary couldn't go have dinner with a few friends without exposing me to a brutal, sustained 20, or 30, or 45 minute screaming session, complete with vomit. None of that today, and we're nearly at 12 hours!

Tonight will be the real test. She doesn't really fall asleep without Mommy, especially in the middle of the night when/if she wakes up. So... I've had a relatively easy go of it with Lela 'til now!

I don't know, though... perhaps Mommy wouldn't have allowed Lela to drive the self-propelled kiddy cars around the playground this afternoon:

I'm sure it was fine, they only have a top speed of like 10-15 MPH.

August is cuter than ever. He thinks he can add a 'y' to anything, to create a new word describing his wants/needs. So, just as he'd be hungry when he wants food, and thirsty when he wants drink, he might now be basebally when he wants to play baseball.

"I'm very watchy" if he wants to watch TV. Or "iPaddy". Today I got "I'm not very walky, I'm very pick-uppy".

Onward.

Note... Following up on my deleted-images problem: I think I've figured out a few different strategies for identifying which images in my backup libraries belong to which blog posts. Will be extremely laborious to put it all back together, but will endeavor to do so, starting here.

Bear with me.
