The day I shot the Storyland Vintage lookbook was as fun as the video suggests. I decided to share some behind the seams(har har) photos and some fun facts!

at IKEA(these scenes were cut out of the video because I didn’t have the room for them but they will be used in a future video!):

<img src="http://storylandvintage.com/blog/images/51912_4.jpg"alt="my cinnamon bun almost slipped out of my hand I was very scared">

<img src="http://storylandvintage.com/blog/images/51912_6.jpg"alt="good job cameramom!">
<img src="http://storylandvintage.com/blog/images/51912_7.jpg"alt="tired and windblown from the long day but pleased with the results">

beach scenes:

some facts from the video:
1. The diner I shot at is the diner I grew up going to in my hometown on Long Island and Jones Beach is the beach I grew up going to since I was like 1 years old.
2. The Elvis song I chose on the jukebox is actually one of my favorites and happened to be song choice 11(of course).
3. The opening background where I have the logo was a happy accident, the camera was rolling for almost the entire trip from the diner to the next location and it just so happens to be the Storyland Vintage color scheme(probably a reflection of some sort from my aqua colored phone case but still very cool!).
4. I have a vintage postcard from the 1950′s of the swimming pool at Jones Beach so when I’m peering over the empty/unused pool area I am imaging it the way it was.
5. I shot an entire scene playing around at IKEA(I call it my homeland because I am of Swedish decent and that’s as close as I can get to my Swedish culture) but I had to cut it all out because it was too much:(
6. I really wanted to use another Girls song but for inappropriate language and length purposes I went with this song, Summertime. I think it was a great compromise and probably turned out better than the alternative.
7. 0:41 reference to my Pop Pop. 4:54 thinking of someone special. 5:37 was thinking of a scene in one of my favorite movies, Elizabethtown.
8. When the couple is walking towards the camera on the boardwalk I had my hand open and out free but the wind blocked my hand with the skirt…the wind held my hand.
9. There were a few things I wanted to accomplish with this video a)first off an A on my final project, b)I wanted the viewer to get a glimpse into my vision of Storyland Vintage, c)I wanted SV fans to get a taste of who I am! I only hope it inspires its audience to take life less seriously, to go outside and play or inspired to check out Storyland Vintage
10. The white vintage dress and crop top and skirt playsuit will be available in the Storyland Vintage shop!
11. The water was very cold…I didn’t care.

Take a peak into a afternoon in the life of me, Meg having fun on a beautiful day on Long Island and just being my genuinely dorky self whilst wearing some gorgeous Storyland Vintage vintage fashions that will make their way into the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/StorylandVintage"target="_blank">Storyland Vintage shop real soon!

I feel like the nail polish color I choose at the beginning or end of the week sets the tone for outfits to come that week. Like this week I had a very Storyland Vintage shade on my nails and I wore mostly black and white with some red thrown in there like with this mis-matched yet matching ensemble. Of course next week I could go with something more neutral and then my outfits will be all over the place!

Last month was fun filled to say the least. I rang in the big 2-5 in style with drag queen entertainment, saw Tom Green doing stand-up and was able to snag tickets to The Adventures of Pete and Pete reunion in NYC. As much as I have grown up, I still love what I love and have total respect for what I grew up watching and listening to because it’s helped shaped me into the lady I am today. Even as an adult now, The Adventures of Pete and Pete is still so charming, poignant, genius and just funny to me not to mention nostalgic and that little TV-show has inspired me in more ways than I can even recognize. I was even Little Pete for Halloween back in 2006! I have vivid memories of entertaining or annoying(maybe both) my partner in science class in middle school by singing the Tom Green Show theme song, nearly peeing my pants laughing watching the very hilarious Subway Monkey Hour special on MTV, trying Quiznos subs because Tom Green told me too after the millennium on his new show and watching his online talk show and nearly peeing my pants laughing again. Finally seeing him in person was exciting to say the least and my mouth was sore afterwards from all the laughing and smiling.

In preparation for The Adventures of Pete and Pete reunion I had episode marathons and took all my plaids out of my closet because…of course! Once I got there and Little Pete came on stage I had no idea that The Adventures of Pete and Pete reunion would affect me the way it did. I got choked up and CRIED! I know I am totally a huge dork for the show but I was not expecting such an emotional reaction to seeing everyone. So, when the made up band from the show, The Blowholes came out on stage and announced they were playing for the first time in years, I was trying to hold in my emotions. When it was time for the Q&A “Artie” came out on stage and announced “The last time we saw you, you were virgins!” and calmed me down. After the show I managed to meet one of the creators of the show and the characters “Teddy” and “Wayne the Pain”(who was totally unrecognizable in a good way) and managed not to cry.

A few months ago I was able to fulfill a dream by visiting the beautiful city of New Orleans, Louisiana. There are so many things that surprised and excited me about the city and mainly the French Quarter but its just one of those places I knew I would love. The character and charm in that city is abundant along with the great food and liquor. Not to sound like an alcoholic but I think truly the thing that fascinates me to this day the most is the fact that you can walk around outside and drink, maybe because in New York its taboo and you would actually get fined/put in the back of a cop car for doing so but its also very homey and not as uptight a city as NY is. I have fashioned myself a kind of “Southern” girl on the inside even though I have lived on Long Island all my life so it was nice to be in a city that was warm in temperature in the cold winter months of NY but also warm in personality. The thing that most inspired me to want to see the city was back in 1999 when the Real World did a season there, kind of a cheesy reason but I really loved the cast that season and was really drawn to the culture even though I was barely a teenager then. I found out where the house was located and had to take a picture outside(as seen above) the house doesn’t quite look the same as it did then but its such a gorgeous vintage home on its own. Of course I had to name this post after the unequivocal theme song of that season which I had playing in my head for the duration of my trip.

I tried so many new foods while in Louisiana like crawfish etouffee and even GATOR! But the thing I enjoyed most and actually took home with me has to be my new found love for beignets from the famous Cafe Du Monde. I bought a box of mix by the restaurant and I make them at home now with Cafe Au Lait. Not quite the same experience making them at home as being in the Big Easy but still delicious. I know I’ll be back in New Orleans one day:)

Halloween is a big deal to me(see years previous <a href="http://storylandvintage.com/2010/11/when-we-met-i-felt-my-life-begin-so-open-up-your-heart-and-let-this-fool-rush-in.html"target="_blank">here and <a href="http://storylandvintage.com/2010/01/but-this-is-not-a-gift-for-an-ordinary-girl-who-takes-care-of-a-screaming-baby.html"="_blank">here) and this year I decided to dress up as a Pan Am stewardess. I was inspired by the TV show Pan Am and my love of airports(except the invasive security checks, no thank you) and the urge I have been having this year to work in an airport(if only Jet Blue had uniforms like the Pan Am stewardesses in the 1960′s). And although I am going against my trend of dressing as a man and woman every other year, I knew I had to do it this year if I was gonna do it at all, so I went for it! My costume was put together on little time and money because I was certainly not going to drop $1,500 plus on an authentic Pan Am uniform on Ebay(oh yeah that happened!). I had a lot of fun with it and felt very in character, confident and poised like a real Pan Am stewardess. Happy Halloween!

This summer a railroad attraction opened up near where I vacation in upstate, NY. Once I heard that Railroads On Parade existed I knew I had to go after visiting Roadside America in 2009. So I popped on the vintage train printed dress I fatefully packed and took my cheesy dressed self off to be swept away for an hour to see some miniature trains and miniature people.

I wasn’t expecting much from a small town in Pottersville, NY but Railroads On Parade exceeded my expectations and proved to be enjoyable(which I should have known because after all some of the people of Pottersville contributed to Frontiertown which is one of my favorite vintage amusement parks). I am so thrilled that there are still people around today putting things out there like this into the world, there aren’t many places left to just go and enjoy and be carefree and there aren’t many places out there that can truly inspire children but this is one of them. Things I liked about it were the scenes themselves, the details like the moving pony ride, the light up advertisements, the drive-in theater and when the people would move and there was a lot of room around the exhibits to move and look around. Something I didn’t like were the lights constantly turning off and changing to night so often. That’s one of things Roadside America got right with only turning the lights off every 10 minutes or so, not to mention the cheesy part I loveee with the music afterwards and the Jesus projection on the wall. If you are ever in the Adirondack NY area check out Railroads on Parade!

Apparently when I walked a few minutes on some gravel, the little rocks dug themselves into the wooden soles despite there being a grooved layer on the bottom of them…I have to get them fixed now which is why I should have just saved for the Swedish Hasbeens.
Earlier this month I had the pleasure of fulfilling a long-term dream/goal of mine of visiting The Magic Forest with my niece. I never went there when I was little because my parents always took my siblings and I to the bigger amusement park down the road, The Great Escape. Soon after my niece was born though I decided once she was of age we were going because I wanted her to have the pictures she should have on kitschy old vintage rides like we all had growing up(which The Great Escape no longer provides due to the Six Flags takeover of the park !#$@). And of course I wanted to see what vintage goodies they had for my own personal enjoyment so it was a win win! CAUTION! Image heavy post!
Before we left the moment finally came..I got to see the horse dive and look <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QzGi5vFPBo"target="_blank">I even took a video!

I highly suggest The Magic Forest if you are traveling in the Lake George area, as long as your kids aren’t too old and can appreciate kiddy rides or you are like me and love vintage amusement parks. I thoroughly enjoyed how small and how non-commercial it was. For example there was one bathroom, one snack place and only one soda machine that sold strictly Aquafina water, no Pepsi/Coke signs everywhere so that was refreshing not to see. I can’t wait to return when my nephew can also ride the rides with his sister! ♥

I always have mixed emotions when July rolls around, it feels like summer is almost over and makes me feel that much closer to September when god awful school would start. A little dramatic yes? But it would make me feel like the glass was not half full then and it’s no different now. Going to public school really messed with my brain and makes me feel like I have to quickly get in all the summer activities I want to do, all the trips I want to go on and for Storyland Vintage, all the item photos because sunlight isn’t as cooperative the rest of the year. I would probably be more relaxed in California…someday.

Heart necklace – vintage
Jeans - AG china doll. I seriously own 3 pairs of jeans, 2 of these same exact ones and 1 from F21. Alright I have some older designer jeans from high school tucked away from when I wore a really tiny size(thanks track), if I don’t fit in them soon though, I am setting them free! They feel so nice though..
Blue cork heels – Me Too (my feet like these too shockingly)

My favorite part of my trip besides the general excitement everyday of being in California was getting to do studio tours. My favorite was the Warner Brothers one but I also went on the Universal Studios studio lot tour which was more of a cheesey ride in the theme park instead of an actual tour but I enjoyed it anyway.
