Naturally Halloween is my favorite holiday as a lover of fashion and dressing up. Halloween is a big deal to me(see years previous here and here) and this year I decided to dress up as a Pan Am stewardess. I was inspired by the TV show Pan Am and my love of airports(except the invasive security checks, no thank you) and the urge I have been having this year to work in an airport(if only Jet Blue had uniforms like the Pan Am stewardesses in the 1960′s). And although I am going against my trend of dressing as a man and woman every other year, I knew I had to do it this year if I was gonna do it at all, so I went for it! My costume was put together on little time and money because I was certainly not going to drop $1,500 plus on an authentic Pan Am uniform on Ebay(oh yeah that happened!). I had a lot of fun with it and felt very in character, confident and poised like a real Pan Am stewardess. Happy Halloween!

This summer a railroad attraction opened up near where I vacation in upstate, NY. Once I heard that Railroads On Parade existed I knew I had to go after visiting Roadside America in 2009. So I popped on the vintage train printed dress I fatefully packed and took my cheesy dressed self off to be swept away for an hour to see some miniature trains and miniature people.

I wasn’t expecting much from a small town in Pottersville, NY but Railroads On Parade exceeded my expectations and proved to be enjoyable(which I should have known because after all some of the people of Pottersville contributed to Frontiertown which is one of my favorite vintage amusement parks). I am so thrilled that there are still people around today putting things out there like this into the world, there aren’t many places left to just go and enjoy and be carefree and there aren’t many places out there that can truly inspire children but this is one of them. Things I liked about it were the scenes themselves, the details like the moving pony ride, the light up advertisements, the drive-in theater and when the people would move and there was a lot of room around the exhibits to move and look around. Something I didn’t like were the lights constantly turning off and changing to night so often. That’s one of things Roadside America got right with only turning the lights off every 10 minutes or so, not to mention the cheesy part I loveee with the music afterwards and the Jesus projection on the wall. Wooden heels – Mod Cloth, but despite my positive review I would no longer recommend them unless you will only walk in them indoors. Apparently when I walked a few minutes on some gravel, the little rocks dug themselves into the wooden soles despite there being a grooved layer on the bottom of them…I have to get them fixed now which is why I should have just saved for the Swedish Hasbeens.

Recently I did something I haven’t done in a very, very long time…I went to the circus. I felt like a kid again munching on cotton candy, popcorn AND a snow cone under the big top and enjoying the tigers, clowns and acrobats. It was really nice to see that not much had changed over the years, just like me ba dum psh, except my age ba dum psh Even though it was extremely hot out(hence bad hair) I had sooo much fun!

Earlier this month I had the pleasure of fulfilling a long-term dream/goal of mine of visiting The Magic Forest with my niece. I never went there when I was little because my parents always took my siblings and I to the bigger amusement park down the road, The Great Escape. Soon after my niece was born though I decided once she was of age we were going because I wanted her to have the pictures she should have on kitschy old vintage rides like we all had growing up(which The Great Escape no longer provides due to the Six Flags takeover of the park !#$@). And of course I wanted to see what vintage goodies they had for my own personal enjoyment so it was a win win! CAUTION! Image heavy post!

Before we left the moment finally came..I got to see the horse dive and look I even took a video!

I highly suggest The Magic Forest if you are traveling in the Lake George area, as long as your kids aren’t too old and can appreciate kiddy rides or you are like me and love vintage amusement parks. I thoroughly enjoyed how small and how non-commercial it was. For example there was one bathroom, one snack place and only one soda machine that sold strictly Aquafina water, no Pepsi/Coke signs everywhere so that was refreshing not to see. I can’t wait to return when my nephew can also ride the rides with his sister! ♥

I always have mixed emotions when July rolls around, it feels like summer is almost over and makes me feel that much closer to September when god awful school would start. A little dramatic yes? But it would make me feel like the glass was not half full then and it’s no different now. Going to public school really messed with my brain and makes me feel like I have to quickly get in all the summer activities I want to do, all the trips I want to go on and for Storyland Vintage, all the item photos because sunlight isn’t as cooperative the rest of the year. I would probably be more relaxed in California…someday.

My favorite part of my trip besides the general excitement everyday of being in California was getting to do studio tours. My favorite was the Warner Brothers one but I also went on the Universal Studios studio lot tour which was more of a cheesey ride in the theme park instead of an actual tour but I enjoyed it anyway.

This past year I’ve adapted the “why not?” mentality and this was no exception during my trip to California. There are of course things in life to be fearful of, but taking a chance of looking stupid is one thing no one should be scared to do. We are only on this earth for a short time, might as well spend that time living the life you want to live. Why not sip a all-you-can-drink “strawberry mimosa” at 1pm on a weekday at the famous Saddle Ranch on Sunset Boulevard?!

That bull was really intimidating and my waiter was really persuasive(and really cute and so Hollywood which kind of became my catchphrase on my trip) so against my better ladylike judgement, I got on the bull…

And that is literally the only photo I can and will show on the internet because I am a lady and I was wearing a dress and although he offered me pants to wear that he ended up not having, he gave me bright red SR panties that I put over my Spanx(I don’t even usually wear them) so in all the other pictures the red panties are clearly visible. But besides that I rode that bull like a champ and it was REALLY fun and I didn’t vomit after my 4-5 mimosa’s. And I can safely say I am most likely the palest and only person to ride that bull in a vintage dress. ♥

(Whenever I hear or say Hollywood & Vine in my head I hear Marilyn Monroe saying it as she did in my favorite movie of hers, Bus Stop)
One day during my California spent was spent looking at the Hollywood Walk-of-Fame. I think it’s incredibly silly and I would rather actually go about seeing a celebrity in person than look at a dumb star in the sidewalk but you kinda gotta do it at least once in your life, right? Right!

Recently I took a week long trip to sunny California! It’s the second time I’ve been there but this time it was more of a pleasure trip with my parents to meet this little guy…

When I wasn’t at my brothers house I was out exploring the sights and singing pretty much every time I saw a street sign, was on a highway or saw an exit sign because after spending 24 years on this earth, I’ve shipped to them, heard ‘em or seen ‘em all in the movies, on television or on my iPod.

Hey there, how are you doing? I’ve been great, keeping busy and I’ve been seeing a lot of live music lately which makes meg a happy girl. But since it is JUDGEMENT doom DAY and all I figured I’d do some confessions for ya’ll on this festive day.

First off this was the first time I ever wore the vintage blouse in this photo and I hadn’t noticed anything wrong with it for hours. From getting my hairs cut in fluorescent lighting, from getting dressed in my room with the window open and some mild sunlight streaming in to one light source in a restaurant bathroom. Then I get to a dressing room at one of my favorite stores and BAM! Dark spot in the center of my shirt, I looked in the mirror in this very dim lit dressing room and it looked like something had spilled on the front and I certainly hadn’t spilled anything. I pulled the shirt from my body and still didn’t see it, but in the mirror it was right there. Dirty mirror or ghost/phantom stain. You decide.

Second confession, I LOVE REALITY SHOWS! If you follow me on Twitter this is all but obvious to you but if you don’t this otherwise vintage donning classy lady loves herself some reality television. Celebrity Apprentice, Millionaire Matchmaker, Flipping Out, Project Runway, Jersey Shore, Jersey Floor..It’s just nice to get wrapped up in someone else’s drama whether it is true or not for awhile and escape your own, at least for me anyway! ♥
