2015.

That was the year that I could perhaps consider the most personal journey for me because that was when I've become a work in progress

When something personal is happening it's always difficult to write about it. I didn't think I'd want to write about it honestly and I never had any intention to do so. But seeing what I'd written in my previous year end posts, I've realized how writing this would be a nice way of connecting the transition of what had been and what would be.

2015. It's honestly difficult for me to describe this year. I could go on and detail what I've achieved ,what I've done, where I've been and pass it on to my list of merits. It's a cliche and to be blunt, superficial. Though I'm not discrediting those experiences for they have been nothing but awesome and added to what and who I am today - a work in progress.

Yes, a work in progress, is the best description of my year. Without going into specifics, I've slowly braved and gone out of my comfort zone. I've always said how travelling forces you to be outside your comfort zone, it still is true, but I think they are just the triggering factor that points you to the change you want to be.

However, more than that, there are also certain factors in life e.g. people, experiences, places and etc that becomes your catalyst for change. It's only a matter of heeding those encounters and it only takes a pause. a breath, a moment, to let everything sink in before clarity sets in.

So yup, that's what I did. I took a pause, a breath, a moment to work on myself. I took some initiative on how I could ease the inner restlessness in my mind and the insecurity of the uncertain (extended quarter life crisis, it seems). In the midst of all these I've decided to go beyond my circle, on my own, and sought people and activities that could help me calm the unease. It was the best decision ever.

I can't say I've got all my questions figured out or I'm better a person or whatever. I don't even know if I'll ever be in this lifetime. Instead, I attained a minuscule but progressive understanding that life is but a moment at a time. That uncertainties are meant to be embraced, because attached to it are endless possibilities.

I started my year off with heaviness and unease created by my worst enemy, myself. Then I've progressed to seeking and unloading the burden and attachments with the help of my best friend, myself.

I've been a work in progress in 2015 and I will continue to be this year and the years to come. I'm finally getting comfortable of where I'm heading in this life. I certainly don't know where it'll be or what it is or with whom, but I'll brave it and make it. I have every faith that if things are meant to be, it will "effortlessly" fall into its right place, with right karmic actions in mind.

2015. I've been a work progress and will continue to be. I am taking the pause, the breath, the moment to embrace the uncertainty and possibilities that lies ahead.

I am excited and am very much looking forward to you, 2016.

Bali begins...

So it's a rainy 13 degrees outside and I'm here in bed wrapped in my robe and bundled in a double layer of comforter. Welcome to Melbourne, where the weather is crazy and my fingers are freezing. They say the best way to beat the cold is to exercise and keep the body warm. So fingers we are in for a long exercise.. type away... ;)

Where do I begin?. Oh yes. I've been meaning to blog about my Southeast Asian backpacking experience for the longest time now, but for some reason I just kept on keeping it at bay. I don't exactly know why but I think I have a pretty good idea why. Wait.. I know why... because somebody failed to send me the "promised memory card" from the other cam. So somebody if you're reading this, you are that somebody I'm talking about (may your conscience be with you). But whatever, moving on (no pun intended ;p), today I've decided to revolutionize by opening my 16GB memory card. 16GB worth of pictures that I just didn't bother with. Sorry to be a party pooper pics but you're not gonna get a dusty anniversary celebration inside the cam. ha! Aside from incomplete, my pictures aren't really that great and so is my memory of the experience, but I'll try to relive as much as I can, starting with Bali, Indonesia.

I really don't know why I wanted to go Bali, maybe it was because I planned the trip with my friend Bally that it just seemed appropriate to have her first out of the country trip to where else but Bali. Ha! Corny. So Kyle, Bally and I took the red eye flight to Bali and went our separate ways so we could enjoy the cultural side of Bali and he with his surfing.

Ubud. That was our first destination. The cultural side of Bali. The place where you can do your Eat Pray Love moments that Bally and I utterly failed to capture. So what it's in this side of the island? Culture. Art. History. Tourists.

The great thing about this place, that I kept on raving on, is how they were able to preserve their history and cultural practices despite the influx of tourism. I think it's just amazing how the houses (a lot of which became bed and breakfasts) were preserved the way they were. It's fascinating to see how they were able to master the art of cultural conservation knowing that somehow this is the kind of thing that tourists go for. They even stepped it up a notch by organizing a weekly Kecak Fire Dance that involved the participation of the whole community. That my friends is what you call a real collaborative art and of course the tourists were digging it...me included..

What else have we done in Ubud? Biked around and gotten into a minor accident, katangahan lang, check! Flirted with the some lonely monkey at the monkey temple, he wasn't charmed (I wasn't his type of monkey I guess), but check! Gate crashed into a house we thought was temple, seriously! an-honest-to-goodness-mistake-and-you-cant-blame-us-really, check!Struck a deal with a driver in a very very broken English and made his delivery truck van into our personal tour van.CHECK

Let me just expound on it a bit coz for some reason my friends and I recklessly thrive on random moments and this was another one for the books. So, as the ever fit Bally and I were biking uphill and downhill for hours we stopped by the a tiny roadside food shack to energize ourselves. We got into a conversation with one of the locals exchanged the general question of where are you from yada yada.. cut the story short they offered to bring us to the temples for a very discounted rate. With just a shared look Bally and I said yes right away (that's how we make life making decisions by the way haha), and lo and behold the delivery truck van was waiting for us like a shiny carriage on our beck and call. It was perhaps the quietest ride we've ever had, with lots of smiles thrown in to fill the silence of the language barrier between the driver and us. It was hopeless, it was reckless, it was worth the destination :)

After Ubud we went up to Uluwatu to meet up with Kyle where he was surfing to his heart's content til he suffered that ghastly reef accident. I really don't know how you call it exactly but there were wounds A LOT of wounds that just added to his barely healed wounds from Siargao. I tell you that guy collects scars and wounds as souvenirs. Anyway, that pretty much bummed his surfing trip. Much more when he found this amazingly secluded surf spot in Uluwatu, like a surfer's haven on a cliff side stilts that was very dirt cheap. Well that was our instruction anyway, to find a spot within our budget because we are cheap like that. The downside however is the going up and down of those hundreds of steep stairs with our huge backpacks and injuries. I was nursing my swollen toe from my biking fall of disgrace and Bally was getting UTI. To top it off, we learned how filthy the water really is in Bali with horror stories of how a deadly infection could spread in a tiny wound just by being in the water. Of course the sanitation of the dirt cheap place didn't help settle the paranoia nor did the medical expertise of my two companions regarding infections, diseases and shit. Sometimes ignorance is a bliss, but transferring to a cleaner hotel is more blissful.

That begun our journey to hotel hopping in Bali. I honestly could care less where I sleep and all coz I know that it's only temporary and I'm gonna return to the comforts of my own home anyway (ehem! bullshit! I'm really on a budget! haha). However, I also totally understood where Kyle was coming from about getting the best comforts his money could afford considering how hard he works, the exchange rate blah blah, but on the other hand I don't spend money that I don't have. So we compromised and I somewhat became a semi-freeloader. It really didn't sit well with me so I just gave him free reign of TripAdvisor-ing our trip. TripAdvisor could seriously hire us to stay at hotels for free in exchange for feedbacks. He do the feed-backing, I give the stars. Dream job!

Overall, Uluwatu was nice but the people were nicer.. to look at. There's just something about surfer guys until you see their equally hot girlfriends trail behind them. Oh well back to being tourists. Uluwatu was just really touristy for me. It was such a relief to escape the bus tours of Chinese madness and drove off to Balian.

Aaaaah Balian. I cannot express how much I love thee. You see Balian is a quiet little surfing town somewhere in the central part of Bali. I think. My direction really sucks, but heck it's somewhere in Bali. So anyway, I fell in love with that little town. That was my Eat Pray Love moment right there. Eat the best street noodle, Pray to stay forever and Loooove every bit of it. But just imagine your bungalow sitting on top of a terraces with the ocean as your view and the waves as your music. Just the ultimate Bali experience for me. The combination of greens and blues were the perfect shade of tranquility. I've never seen colors more vivid at that certain day, but that's a different story ;) I would have loved to spend the remaining duration of our stay there but I know how excruciating it was for Kyle to just see the perfect waves not able to surf it. I feel for that dude, but on the other hand I got go to my dream school.

Green School. I came across the Green School in Bali from one of John Hardy's TED talk on youtube. Since then I've always been impressed by it, partly because it was similar to the paper I made on Curriculum Development when we were tasked to make a write up of our dream school. I've written how I wanted an eco-inspired school somewhere in the mountain or ocean with solar panel churvaloo. Then a few years after, I bumped into Green School on youtube and then visited it. How amazing is that?! It was like seeing a dream into reality, only much better, waaaay better. Someday I'm gonna set up one in PH. Oh dreams, just you wait til I get my millions...haha...

What else? Oh so yeah we spent sometime in Kuta, the party capital of Bali. I didn't get to party the night away. I would've have wanted to try it, but I don't quite have the stamina for it. Weirdly enough, the music and lights makes me sleepy... unless I'm with my girlfriends and some cheap shots then we're good to go. But that hardly happens, just a maximum clubbing of once a year. Yes we are a bunch of old boring hags who takes more enjoyment dancing outside the perimeters of the club. Damn, we really are cheap wackos haha.

And that ends my finger exercise for this leg of my Southeast Asian Adventure. Thailand coming ... who knows when.. ;)

Bandwagon Learnings...

I thought I was gonna bid this blog farewell, but then I opened it and realized how much I've missed indulging on writing little remembrance of my "past-scapades." Reading my previous posts had reminded me of how lucky I've been to be in a position where I get the opportunity to go to places. Not as extensively, by any hardcore traveler's standard, but enough for me to be grateful and to yearn for more. I think the reason why I'm am in love with traveling is because I am a sucker for experiences. I mean sure I get some crazy experience from just being at home, but there's just something romantic about doing things and seeing things outside of your comfort zone. This is probably why there's so many blogs out there dedicated to top things about traveling blah blah blah. I think they make a lot of sense, so I decided to jump into the bandwagon with my very own,

THINGS I LEARNED FROM TRAVELING

especially on this trip.

I learned that I am a stubborn bull when it comes to chasing dreams.

I've always been fascinated by people I've met who've traveled the world with nothing but a backpack of essentials. To me they looked like they had a luggage full of experiences and stories that is very enviable. So a few years back I told myself that someday I would backpack around Southeast Asia too. The idea was so appealing to my friend and I that we booked a one way seat sale ticket to Bali a year in advance, even though we didn't have any money for it yet. But the moment I had the ticket in my inbox, that was it for me. No more turning back as I started to diligently save a year's worth of my salary. For a minimum wage earner in this country, it wasn't much but still enough for me to stretch it out to more than a month's worth of travel.

This was perhaps very ambitious, considering the risk I took of resigning from the job that I loved just to fulfill a short term dream. My parent's thought I was crazy, but I just had to see what Bali was like, what Thailand is now, what Myanmar was all about and the fuzz around Vietnam. I just had to satisfy my curiosity in these rugged lands and do it the rugged way because I know that time will come when I will no longer have the stamina for such way of traveling. I believed it was essential for me to have that experience and for whatever reason I just felt the need for it, so for that I had to put all my eggs in that one basket.

Looking back, I honestly didn't think I'd be able to really go to Burma. I remember just raving about the sunset pictures of Bagan and going to the Green School in Bali and wished for someday2x. Then someday happened, the same way as my someday to go Cambodia and etc. It just made me realize now that I actually do make my someday happen, despite the circumstances. I honestly don't earn much, but I guess I'm just good at making do of what I have and a strong faith that everything will work out. But now that I'm done with it, it's time to level up the dreams for a new destination... someday2x ;)

I learned that gratefulness equates to positivity.

I've always been a firm believer in the practice of gratitude. I have very high regards for people who can be very grateful of the smallest gestures in life. I learned that if one is just genuinely grateful of what is in front of them they'd tend to have a simpler and more meaningful demands out of life. Not that they become less ambitious,but rather they develop that great appreciation of what is presented to them regardless of the buts.

This trip just made me realize of how I actually perceive things. I've always been a grateful person, I always say my thank you's like it's a built in automated response, but I've never seen myself as a positive person. I guess part of it is coming from a third world country that when you travel abroad you just get fascinated by everything around you. You just tend to soak things up because what you are used to is nothing in comparison. Having that knowledge alone humbles you because you are well aware that the opportunity you are enjoying is not enjoyed by everyone. That's why it's really difficult to be a travel snob when you are just grateful of being there in that moment. Gratefulness just makes things a little bit brighter. Then again it's really just all a matter of perspective and upbringing.

So despite the disadvantages associated with coming from a third world country, I am still grateful because I feel like I see the world through the innocence of a kid who is just in awe of everything new in her eyes. Naive and pathetic, sure, but we were all just a bunch of kids once for sure you remember how it felt, it was happiness and it was beautiful.

I learned to compromise and give it my best shot.

When my friend whom I planned to have to this trip with bailed on me, I took a chance and said yes to somebody who requested to join me instead. I only met him for a weekend, barely had a meaningful encounter during that time but somehow shared a connection with. I met him last year on a very interesting setting, a great beginning to a story in fact.... but I'd rather keep that to myself. ha! (Sorry I'm not going to give my sister who snoops here the satisfaction. :p). Anyway for some reason, reckless or otherwise I said yes without giving it much thought and so began the biggest risk and lesson I learned on this trip.

Before anything else, let me admit that I am a closet romantic. I've always been in love with the idea of having a partner who shares the same passion, causes and values in life as I do. It's true that I don't have a lot experience on proper relationships whatever, but I've always been quite idealistic in my approach that you should be with someone who makes you grow and vice versa, otherwise it's just a waste of time. So practically my standard was simplified, if I could see myself traveling with someone, that's already a possibility. Funny, but thinking back, I actually did meet him while I was traveling. ha! never thought of that.

Anyways, to cut the story short I experienced a grand romantic gesture from a great guy who traveled half way across the world to travel more parts of the world with me. To someone who loves going places, that's an awesome lot! Long hair! that gesture alone definitely made my dark skin blush, haha! Then reality took place, personalities were shown, differences settled in and so did my great act of compromise. Something, that's unusual for a strong willed prideful kid as I am.

A lot of people had told me that traveling together is a great way to really get to know someone. I'd say hell yeah! because when the going gets tough there is definitely no escaping it. I had to learn how to confront situations I would have otherwise ran away from. I had to take into consideration another person's well being instead of just my own. I had to this, I had to that. In short, I did a lot of things I would have otherwise not known I'd be willing to do. It was a lot of work, but that was my best shot. Had I turned him down and pursued on traveling alone, I would not have been able to learn things about myself as part of someone's life. Damn! had known I should have had some practice beforehand! kidding.

That's actually what I love most about traveling, it's a beautiful journey of self-realization. It puts you in situation you'd unlikely experience in your comfort zone. It gives you the kind of introspection that humbles you and makes you seek to become better than you are now. Roads were bumpy and smooth but that's what journey is all about anyway, and that's the thing I learned the most. So travel and learn. Learn and travel. Then love every bit of the experience.

P.S. to my sister who is reading this. Things didn't work out as you'd probably hope it would. Just understand that people are meant to chase their dreams like a stubborn bull and sometimes you just don't fit in those dreams. That's especially when you give them your bestest shot and support them in their goals, even if it means letting you go, because that is still comprise. I didn't come empty handed with that compromise anyway because I learned more than I could possibly imagine and for that I am beyond grateful. Just be positive that someday I will eventually have that someone who'd still share the same ideals as me and at the right time. You will like him too. He will be handsome with great body, funny, smart, generous, hardworking and just plain amazing that it would make you say 'you go gurl!' hahaha.. But hey! you never know with my someday2x...it might happen with this too..haha.. wink! wink!

2013 ... the year that was...

2013. The year that is about to end in a few hours. 2 to be exact. But before the curtain closes down on the year that will be a has been, I'd like to give my toast for it has been nothing but a good chain of events.

As of this moment I am still holding on to my job as a preschool teacher. Second year, the longest job since I held onto since the number of diplomas that I've held (short courses, I'm not that cerebral).

I fell in love.... with Chico. A dog. It's pathetic I know, but for someone who just likes animals minus the responsibility of it, it's a great commitment. It's either because his care was thrust-ed into me by my sister who got him weeks before she left for Australia, or he is just so handsome and adorable. I swear your dog is nothing like my Chico. And I'm not just saying that because I consider him my kid. He's not just any face that only a mother could love. Like any mother will of course say. ;p

My sister left for Australia. My parents vacationed for months. I got left alone for a couple of months. Well... not bad. It's just that I-SWEAR-I-WILL-GET-MY-MUCH-NEEDED-TRAVEL-SOON-TOO.

I pulled off something that I never thought would be possible in my life. Somehow I was able to put my pessimism, idealism and optimism to use. I think nature does it you, particularly disasters.

Because of my pessimism towards the local media, I have shunned the news. But when the first disaster struck, I heeded the call of my friend to do something about it, thus inspired my idealism that something could be done. And when it was done, I realized that there is actually more to be done and much more we could do as a group of individuals. You may read this as gibberish ramblings but when the mood and timing feels perfect I will blog more about the perhaps the most life changing experience of mine.

In all that happened to me this year, I believe that they are just small dots connecting to a greater something that I do not know what, yet. I've stuck with a job that I love and in return I got my boss and her husband as the biggest supporter for our relief operations. I got Chico who gave me the equal amount of warmth in the absence of my family. Then I met new friends whom I have a strong feeling will be there for many years ahead. And of course my friends, who are just beyond words amazing. This year wouldn't be the year is now without them.

Like every teleserye, my year isn't all about rainbows and butterflies actually. I've had my biggest share of disappointments in people and events. But I believe that they are all still part of the dots that will connect to that big something. They were the learning curves that were beyond my control but is thankful for. Besides, looking back, I think I've had far greater blessings to dwell on rather than on those little bumps.

Again, my gut tells me that there is a greater something. I do not what the hell it is, but it feels good and I will claim it.

I claim that 2014 will my year.

To heck with cosmics!

Hello there blog! been a long long time since I've last logged into you. A lot of things has happened in the past year. I'd like to say that I've been just super duper busy as an excuse, but truth is I was just being a grown up. Doing what grown ups do. Going into the business of trading your time for money. It's called work. The kind of business I've been evading for a while, or as other saw it... a really long time. But you'd be proud, I haven't resigned... yet. YEY!

I guess it just takes a while to figure out the kind of work that doesn't really feel like work. Except when I wake up at 6 in the morning, which is daily. Other than that it's pretty easy breezy. The pay is not much, just a regular minimum wage earner in this country, but the perk lies elsewhere. The kids. Good thing I'm dealing with cute kids! Or maybe I just like kids so darn much that in my eyes they are cute. Ha!

So there you go, I like my job. I'm still at the stage where I'm enjoying it and I hope to God will continue to do so for a long long long time. But I gotta admit, I miss traveling so much. The days of panic booking for cheap fares and researching for the itinerary. The packing,checking in, long painful bus rides, budgeting and getting wowed at that splendor of your destination. The whole process of traveling. The spontaneity of it all. I miss it so so so bad!

Nostalgia. That's the honest reason why I'm avoiding you blog. The things you make me feel when I read through you. The pictures that reminds me of the more possible places I could have gone to. That's why you my dear blog are nostalgic. But I guess I'll have no choice but to embrace the feelings that comes along with you, for I learned that nostalgia comes hand in hand with being a grown up. Like an old couple holding hands in their rocking chair staring off into the distant past of good times.

Good news is, I'm still too young for that rocking chair! So I'll just rock this blog instead. Traveling post maybe dwindling, but I still got a few stories up in my sleeves that I was just too ~~lazy~~ busy to tell. Which reminds me that I have yet to finish that 10 days trip. Sagada will be coming up. I don't know when but real soon. I hope.

day 7: batad, banaue rice terraces

Because to see amazing places takes a lot of time and EFFORT...

10 hour bus ride ... survived!

hours of uphill downhill treks and climb around Batad... SURVIVED!

I have to admit this was going around the world famous rice terraces was probably the most challenging part of the entire 10 day trip. For a very fit and healthy person like me... going uphill and downhill on my barely breathing lungs was no joke! Seriously those sticks were a life saver.

Unfortunately, Batad just had their harvest so it wasn't as green as those in the postcards. But it's still drool worthy nonetheless. I mean sure you get to see rice terraces around the town center of Banaue, even waking up to it, however what you see in Batad is just different. The terraces were perfectly designed from all angles. It's amazing! And you gotta credit the ingenuity of our indigenous architects of the past.

Climb a flight of narrow stairs. Cling on to the side walls and rocks. Trek down, walk a bit, climb up, rest for a while, then go back again. That's how you about the terraces.

P.S. the ways are too narrow for a two way street. So squeeze in sideways to avoid the inevitable fall. Ironically, it's not the reason for my downfall. I fell into the mud because I simply am just being the clumsy good me. No challenge at all.

Part of the reason why I was excited to go to this side of the world was to see firsthand the traditional costumes that the oldies are most often pictured wearing. But times have changed, they don't use those for everyday wear nowadays, only for special occasions. That's why to the cool Manong in the cool headgear, sorry to disturb your cool peace, we are just a bunch of wannabe cool ignorant city kids.

Cool Ifugao facts:

* They are highly cultured. They believe in a lot of mystical stuffs and out of this world ideas. Example, they associate picture talking with death so always ask permission ~~if you can't steal a shot,~~ especially the kids. But a candy and some small bills would always come in handy for a bit of a bribe ;)

* They are the best English speakers I've ever encountered. So chances are they'd talk to you comfortably in English, with a twang no less. And don't underestimate the grannies coz they to could talk to you under the sun with that language. Why? because as I've found out from my sister who hasn't been there but on wikipedia, they were educated by the western missionaries in the past. Aaaahhhh...

* Age doesn't matter, because they don't count their age. They don't know their exact birth dates because NSO hasn't reached their place then.

* And each family has their own terrace or more.

Imagine going up and down these terrains everyday. Cultivate the soil then carry sacks of harvest every now and then. I know it's not good to compare because this is the life that they are used to, but really it's embarrassing to complain when I've just been going around for a couple of hours. But if I was only probably super fit, I'd be singing a different tune. Really, forgive my unhealthy and unfit body, I'll work out someday... not promising though. ;)

There is no escape to the wrath of mother nature, not even in this amazing wonder of the world. They also experienced some landslide that had visibly damaged parts of the terraces. What's great to see however is the strong sense of community that this humble place has. The ability of people to pitch in help to others is always a great thing to see.

My dad was wondering how rice plantation worked here, well as you can see they have a pretty good flow of water from I don't know where. Forgot to ask that... tsk tsk...

Batad was also the place where we encountered the most amazing people. For starters there's happy Rico from Japan who's energy is waaaaay up there. An interesting 21 year old girl traveling by herself, and yeah she's been to India on her own too when she was just 18. Then there's those Aussies who are extreme travelers, who's gonna put your wanna be ass to shame. Why? because one of them just about did 500+ of the 1001 places to go before you die. And apparently Batad was in that book, so I guess that means 1,000 more places to go for me. Yehaaaaaaay...

Then of course there's German Chris who totally sucked at the game of 1-2-3 pass. It was a fun messy lipsticky night.. but seriously, in your face Chris! hahaha... Till' then ;)

When traveling plans are always meant to change...

Vigan-Baguio-Sagada was the original plan. But when you don't know how to go about the original plan then better consult the blogs then change your plan and plan another plan, which is Vigan-Baguio-Banaue. The last minute decision made over an outdated and questionable blog entry at some internet cafe in Vigan. Laughing our uncertainties away but crossing our fingers for the what would hopefully be the right decision. Yey! adventure!

Shower wherever, whenever as long as it's free....

A true backpacker sometimes sacrifices hygiene over budget. However, there are ways to be hygienic and still save the budget. How? Ask my dear two friends Motha and Bally who couldn't resist taking a bath in a very public restroom at the Partas bus station. The faucet, pale and tumbler was all they needed to make it work. No joke! good thing there weren't many passengers... using the restroom. As for me, I got pretty shy and just had a half bath. Don't judge us. It's not easy to be sweaty, sticky and smelly. It would just ruin our picture perfect moments! Besides, we're just girls after all.... hahaha

Ignorance is the best medicine for drunk lunatics...

Here's a tip on arriving at dawn when the town is still asleep. Always go to that store that is bright and with security guard, it's safer! Though not always. But when some disillusioned drunk lunatic claiming to be Gerald Anderson messes with you, ignore and pretend that you don't hear him, not even when you are shaking within. He's bound to back off knowing he can't get a reaction from you, but if he won't, you can always call on that guard to be your knight in shinning armor who in turn would call on the policeman to be his night in shinning armor, and together they will be on the lookout for you like a knight in shinning armor.

Trust me, Baguio's self-proclaimed Gerald Anderson scared the wits out of us. The one and only person who gave us shivers on an already freezing dawn.

10 hour bus travel is always longer on day time....

Trust when I say that long distance land travel would always be best done at night. Not only are you just gonna sleep the hours away, but it would also save you accommodation. Unfortunately for us, since we didn't know the bus schedule we just took the chance and went with our guts and proceeded to the bus station bound for Banaue in hopes that they travel during the day. Lucky us there was one for the day. In fact, only one for the day. So if you plan to go to Banaue, catch the buses that's scheduled at night. There's a couple of them and it starts at 8pm.

Seriously Department of Tourism, hear me out and publish online bus schedules and fares for the key tourist spots in the country. If you do... then you're most welcome, coz I'm pretty sure you'll thank me for it. But I'd be shocked coz then it would mean you've read my blog.. or stalked it? hahahaha... oh, wishful thoughts be real! ;)

The bus from Laoag to Vigan takes approximately about 2 hours more or less therefore we arrived late in the night. My body was too tired from all the adrenaline action at Paoay that I had to be a killjoy and slept the night away right away. I have to tell you that it was also the night we got acquainted with a real bed after nights of sleeping in bags. Sorry but I couldn't resist the little comforts budget packing could afford. But I still miss the sleeping bags though, haaanesly!

The call time with our guide was 11am, so we woke up late, took our time with the real shower, hovered over the television then walked a bit at calle Crisologo.

True. It's really picture perfect.

Even the most ordinary thing could be picturesque.

Even when ice cream is all you have for the props.

There's actually more to Vigan than just the famed Calle Crisologo. There is Chavit Singson's very own backyard zoo @ Baluarte.

A lot of imported animals running around. Camels, ponies, ostrich, sheeps, tigers etc. etc. Animals that only money could buy.

The main attraction has got to be the tiger though, Singson's very own personal pet. So snob and elegant it's scary. Though not as scary as that snake wrapped around motha's scared frozen smile. I have to give it to Singson for not collecting fees though, after all what does he need money for? It's very ideal for families and kids. Like my niece would surely go crazy here, especially when since she's so into those ponies... at the mall.

I lied. We really were in Australia...looks like. Wish it were true. ;)

At the Crisologo museum another museum where we just can't help but leave our breeding at the door step .

Crazy girls should be banned from museums!

But from time to time we also know how to act uhmmmm normal...semi-normal.

But the crazy just really gets the better of us.

I love us. I love museums. I love us in the museums.

haha.

Seriously speaking, Crisologo museum is a house very well preserved. Family mementos and antiques are spread everywhere. What's inside speaks a lot about the family who resided in here, after all they were prominent political figures. But more than anything else it's really their library that impressed me, it speaks volumes of the patriarch. And I like what it speaks.

Next stop... getting our hands dirty @ Tagburnayan Pottery

Did you know that in order for the mud clay to be very fine, smooth and sticky, that carabao chilling in there had to step on it for a thousand times just to get that kind of consistent quality. Holy carabao! You deserve your chill.

Pottery making... well it's not as easy at it seems. But if I were Demi Moore in Ghost with a Patrick Swayze body wrapped around me, I'd probably get the hang of getting my hands dirty. wink! ;)

Like any other tower you'll have to climb a flight of twirling stairs before you reach the top. It's also from the top that you can see most of Vigan but more that it's where you can get great poses and shots.

Again and again excuse us and our affair with the camera. It's not vanity but the camera just can't help itself. It loves us and for that we love it back. Make love to camera dahlings! fakers! hahaha

Vigan at night has a different aura. Different ambiance. There's that romantic side to it that brings you back to the past.

It may not be the city of lights but the lighting certainly does have its charm.

Just makes you wanna cozy it up with your chums.

By the end of the trip I can just say that yes, my butt had squatted in the middle of the UNESCO heritage, and for that it's happy ;)

day 4: laoag & paoay.... sa hapon

Back to that afternoon of day 4. The afternoon that was probably the longest.. ever.

Left Bangui before lunch then hopped on an hour or so bus ride to Loag. So what can you do in Laoag? Not much, but you can kick off the tour of this side of Ilocos Norte with where else but the Malacanang of the North.

I don't know if they really use it for official business or for tourism purposes only. But as history will tell you this house was originally the official residence of the Marcos family. Official in a way that the kids really had their own rooms, Imelda had her own... not closet.. but room for her clothes and of course shoes. They practically lived, slept and partied there. I have to say though that I am really in awe of the house. It's a very Spanish themed house wherein everything is just airy breezy, with huge salas and caidas. I like it. Somehow it reminded me of the ancestral home we grew up in, except for the grand part. My mom would love it for sure. I was even thinking that if I get really rich, I'd build my house around that airy breezy concept, the natural source of light, ventilation and greenery galore is just very eco.

It was very smart of Marcos to build his house that way. Well if you're president/ dictator for 20 years you have got to be smart on a lot of ways. Anyway the house, I think, was really meant for entertaining guests and VIPs, and it still continues to entertain up to the present. Except now we can't use the chairs. So what do the VIP guests like us do?...

Get comfy on our very own floor meeting. Act Imelda-ish. Flirt with our Ferdinand mannequin of choice. Go run crazy on the grounds like we were the Marcos brats.

Even the presidential guards are not exempted from our bratty goofs. But seriously, we just really don't have the museum etiquette. We were absent on the day it was taught it school. Excuse us.

30 later minutes we were already at ...

UNESCO hertiage baby! gotta be proud of that. Unfortunately it was under renovation so that explains the scaffolding galore. But the renovation was temporarily stopped by none other than Mdm. Imelda Marcos. Why? because the workmanship didn't pass her aesthetic judgement. You have to give it to her though coz when it comes to handling centuries old structure you have just got to be delicate with the details. After all, Imelda still got that beauty thing down to the T.

Also in Paoay is the ancestral home of Ferdinand Marcos turned museum. After all that's been said and done, you still can't help but be amazed by his brilliance. Despite how history books wrote him, he still did a lot of great things for the country, and very visibly in the north. It's just unfortunate how things turned out for him.

Quite eloquent too.

Beside the ancestral home lies the late dictator's waxed remains. Got to see it finally! Oddly enough, I didn't find it weird, except for the fact that he didn't have any shoes on. I don't know but somehow it's just ironic that this was the same man whose wife was a Guinness holder for her shoe collection.

Speaking of Imelda, romantically, she also built a house beside the museum to be near her husband. Call it undying loyal devotion for the waxed love. Imelda wasn't there, but we got to see and touch her ride. That should account for something (losers! haha).

Probably the only time I was hanging on to my dear life with a big fat smile on my face! Gaaad I love that ride! was zeeee beeeest! ;)

In the hectares of endless sand and sand, sand boarding is a must. I got to admit this was my most looked forward to must do on the 10 day list. Giddy is me feeling...

The first time was such a rush. The second time was a breeze. The third was a smug moment till....

The climb of shame was such an uphill battle. My lungs almost didn't make it. It's another story to be shameful and unhealthy by the way.

But all is well. Still got that happy memory stuck in my head.

day 4: BANGUI... in the morn

woke up at 4:30am for the sole purpose of catching the beautiful sunrise at where else?....

It's soooo beautiful. Gigantically impressive. Motha was a very happy beaver upon seeing the famous windmills. This was one of her most looked forward to spots in the ilocos norte trip...

@ Bangui Windmills

Of course the excitement makes sense, coz truly you can't find anything like this anywhere in Pinas. You really have got to give credit to Bong2x Marcos for this ecologically friendly source of energy. I could only wish for the local government units to really look into and consider more viable eco-friendly sources of energy. I mean it worked for the Ilocos, maybe it would work for the other parts. Of course it doesn't have to be a windmill necessarily nor does it have to be the dirty oil or coal.

I am completely absolutely head over heels with the environmental protection of Ilocos Norte. Next to Palawan I think they are one of the greenest tourist spots here in Pinas. For that I am more enamored, and to think the tour hasn't ended yet.

Then there's that sand stone formation. My gaaad!!!! Be still my beating heart.

It just soooooo eyegasmic that uncool poses would automatically be cool. That's how beautiful the view is! I mean look at us! seriously, parang wala kami sa Pinas!

But you see these sand stones aren't as sturdy as compared to lime stones and etc. In fact it's pretty fragile that too much weight can cause the possible collapse of these formations. Therefore, in order to avoid such disaster they have limit the number of people who come up to that particular area above. But despite the NO ENTRY yellow strips put up by the caretaker, our charms, which was just multiplied four times, got us that exemption. Even if it was just a very few and hurried minutes to strike our poses. So fast was Manong caretaker/photographer that it felt like we were on a photoshoot. Okay this angle, next move here, and then there, ok good.. last one.. perfect! Then it was done in less than 5 mins! That's efficiency in action!

@ Cape Borjeador

Another light house. Another tower. It's ancient, it's historic and it serves as a practical nautical guide. Sorry didn't pay much attention but this was the last stop for the southern tour of the Pagudpud-Bangui Trip.

Another thing to love about this part of Ilocos though is that they don't have entrance fees. Only donations. This is how budget friendly this place is. For stingy person like me this place could be my better half. Really now Ilocos.. be still my beating heart ;)

Before this part of the journey ends I'd like give a super special thank you to kuya vincent, our driver/ guide. His service goes the extra mile. Not only did he foresee our wants and needs but he also made sure that we were okay. No joke! on the night of our camping he actually went back to Saud Beach just to check on us and see that we were all set. I know that we're on a budget but with this kind of hospitality you cannot help but tip.

day 3: PAGUDPUD

So here's the thing about a long backpacking trip.... ANYTHING CAN CHANGE.

Originally the plan for the third day was to be on Tuguegarao. Unfortunately due to lack of research or shall I say unavailability of bus schedules on the net, we decided to just head on straight to the terminal. As to which terminal is the another question. All we really banked on was the fact that there are more buses in Cubao as compared to Pasay. But the question on which bus in particular was another decision making along the road.

After much interrogation with the conductor and the bus people, they then referred us to GV Florida bus liner. Again, due to lack of information beforehand we learned that there is only one bus that goes to the sta.ana, tuguegarao route, it is at 12nn daily and it takes about 18-20 hours. Then going to our preferred destination, Palaui Island would be another 6 or 8 hours and that's just one way! Understandably, we opted for the 10 hour bus ride instead.

Left at 8 pm arrived at 6am. Slept through the 10 hours and woke up to .....

Just because we saw the windmills and welcome to Pagudpud sign, it doesn't mean that our dilemma ended there. We didn't know where exactly in Pagudpud to hop off! All we know is that we want to camp at Saud beach. So how did we decide? the Saud sign + a group of tricycles on the highway, that's how we knew it's time to hop off.

For me the important part of research prior to traveling is the how to get there and where to stay. We pretty much covered that part so the exploration part was left up in the air. But I have to commend whoever is handling the tourism of Ilocos because their tricycle drivers can act as part tour guide with a complete package rates of their tours. Everything's standard by the way so you can never feel like you're getting ripped off, which by the way is the ultimate nemesis of those on a budget like you know who.

The Northern tour started with ....

@ Kabigon Falls

It's a 30 minute trek going to falls, passing through rice fields and rivers and carabaos. It's a very typical provincial setting except that cold falls awaits your journey. It's nice and cold but we didn't take a dip coz it's cold. The amazing thing is that no one is really allowed to loiter in the area for a long time. The maximum stay was only an hour and I think it was a good rule knowing that prolonged loitering would lead to littering. And trust me there's no greater eye sore than plastic this and vandal there on the natural wonders.

@ Patapat Viaduct

The roads and highways the locals say is the great contribution of the Marcoses to the North, because obviously it led to economic growth. Now what can I say about this viaduct... I think it's very impressive and very ideal for music videos.. hahaha.

@ Agua Grande

It's like their park where they can go have picnic and swim. I'd don't have much to say actually, expect that this is kinda like the delta where the river water meets the sea. The rocks were something too. That's all.. bow.

@ Paraiso ni Anton

That up there is nature spring, the real NATURE SPRING! It's cold and sweet and natural. It's just on the roadside so people naturally named it after the guy responsible for the road construction.... Anton. Seriously, I should really start getting into politics or something to get something named after me. Just a thought or something. ;)

@ Bantay Abot Cave

It's not a cave really, more like a giant opening in the middle of a big rock. Going there is pretty challenging because the waves can smash into you and so you'll have to stick real tight to the side walls. The vista is amazing really. So ideal for many rock-n' poses!

You see all these spots are in blue lagoon and though at a distance they are somewhat in line with each other. So the local folklore, you just gotta love Pinas and their stories, says that all these actually represents a woman. So Dos Hermanas is the boobs (in english: two sisters, such a stripper club name), that cave is the vajayjay (it's really huge!) and that rock (I do not understand why) is the head. Anatomically speaking isn't the head supposed to be above the boobs?... Or maybe my imagination is just not that far stretched... tsk tsk

@ Blue lagoon

SURFING! SURPING!

the much awaited part!!!! Pagudpud is slowly making a name for themselves as a surfing destination, though their waves may not be as big as that of Siargao's but it's very ideal for beginners and wannabees alike - us! Aside from it's an open sea, the wind they have is also pretty strong. The kind of wind they have is already equal to the kind of wind that accompanies the storms we have, and that's already normal for them! So summer heat there isn't so bad when they have a natural electrical fan set at number 3 all the time. And holding that long board wasn't easy!

TRIVIA: PAGUDPUD is named after napapagud. It was said that it was only decades ago when they were not that much affected by storms and natural calamities. Ergo the name makes sense, even places gets tired.

You see my surfing experience in Siargao was kind of a blessing by ~~fire~~ water because they immediately took me in the middle of the ocean where the waves are pretty big, which I'm sure the locals there would disagree! Learning to surf is very ideal on this spot because not only are the waves babies but also because you also have the sand as a cushion in case you'll fall, which happens - often!

HAPPY CAMPERS @ Saud Beach

I have nothing but praises for Saud Beach. The public beach that is comparable if not way better than the private beaches of Shangri-la or even Boracay. Trust me it's so clean, fine white sand, long shores, clear waters... and it's PUBLIC! Your P20 entrance gives you more than your money's worth. I think this is the best beach for me, so far. I have nothing but praises for the beach and their management! In fact I have nothing but praises for Ilocos Norte.

Camping 101:

never had a more peaceful sleep than that.

If only I could have the beach for my room and the sand for my bed. That... would be life!

P.S. It's safe in Saud too. We might be the only ones camping on the ground or staying on the beach but the caretakers were really looking out for us, even the dogs too, but they can get quite sniffy on our sleep .

My fingers are feeling it, so the blogging shall begin...

Let's start the 10 day trip with...

Parang wala sa Pinas diba? but really, it is in Pinas!

From the airport we headed straight to the Victory Liner Bus Station in Pasay to catch the earliest possible schedule for Olonggapo then hoped off for another bus to San Antonio then Pundaquit. It took half a day butt massage/ ride, but heck it's nothing to what awaited us.

If you think this is it, it's not! What you see is just the everyday vista of the locals at Pundaquit. The place to be for the bangkeros to park their colorful ride.

You actually must have to hop on their colorful rides in order to say "at last!....

So so so beautiful. This is wholesome nature tripping at it's best.

Upon jumping off the bangka, you will immediately notice two things -- Pine trees and the glittering fine black sand.

I am so in awe of the fine black sand, it's nothing like you've seen, especially when what you've seen is that of Talisay's very own black sand at Larawan beach. So amazing in fact that when Motha and I dipped into the waters under the glittering night sky, the beach was also behold.. glittering. VERY AMAZING that it's bordering on scary, especially when your companion brings up a scary movie to the conversation. I just had to ask the caretakers why the waters glitter but they too don't have an explanation. However, I later found out the next day that those glitters were actually just reflections of the tiny fishes swimming near the shore. Hay Manang pa mysterious effect ka pa! But still, I'm amazed.

The Pine trees were another story. I think part of what makes this Anawangin Cove parang wala sa Pinas is that it is abundantly surrounded by Pine trees. I may be wrong but I don't think I remember seeing a coconut tree around. Again it's an amazing thing, considering that in Pinas da coconutnut is ebrywer.

Then there is also another part of nature that can grab your attention... hunger. Intense distracting grumbling hunger.

I would have loved to feed my hunger with an immediate chow at some resto bars or something, but Anawangin is so down to earth that they only have one sari sari store. Everything in it is imported... imported from Pundaquit so it's quite pricey. And who am I kidding, we're on a budget so additional sari sari store expense is out of the question. Budget people goes hand in hand with budget meals .. skyflakes and canned goods. But we indulged a bit with the lechon manok and rice that we brought from the town center ;)

The lack thereof the basics in this hidden paradise is probably one of its great assets. Camping is the only way there is to survive, and sleeping bag will be your favorite buddy. The kind of buddy that no other can give warmth on a very cold breezy night.

Such a sight to wake up to.

If you're a nature lover and get natural high from being one with motha nature, then Anawangin will be your best go to.

There are several things you can do... swim, roll in the sand, dip in the lake, chase the fish or shock your vitals with a climb on the hills (trust me up there on the hills, the view, it's worth the shock). But whatever it is you'd want to do, i'm pretty sure it'll be worth your while, if not then there will always be that nearby island hopping option.

@ CAPONES Island

We braved the strong current and waves just to get to the lighthouse we were all so curious of. Understandably, our cameras safety were more important than our lives so we opted to leave it in the bangka away from the raging waters as we had to jump off and then swim to get to the shore. Because of this, we have no pictures to show as evidence that we really did went up to see the lighthouse. Instead, I'll just describe it in detail. It was a white abandoned tower with light on top. The end.

Seriously, the lighthouse wasn't really as old, though they said it was built in the spanish era and that there used to be a house sitting on its foot. It wasn't really the highlight for me but the view of the neighboring islands and the walk back down to the other side of CAPONES were. I know it'll sound silly but I never felt more cool trekking down in my bikini, holding on to rocks while watching out for the waves that might slam into us. You might not get it, but it's the closest we could get to ala Roxy video, where the surfers are looking waves in the far off beaten paths. Still whatever, no one can take away my feeling cool moment.

The rock formations at CAPONES Island was very cool, I was not. Though that's the best try I've got. Excuse me... just living up to my feeling Roxy moment. Errr...failed! Now I know why there are models and viewers. The latter can't just keep up with the former, no matter the attempt.

We also headed to other islands, but the tide was getting high so it was difficult to dock the boat. It's not safe especially when one of the four below is relying on a life jacket for her dear life. No, left most friend, I'm not mentioning your name. Joke Fauv! hahaha.

I owe a lot. By a lot, I mean A LOT!... I'll pay my dues a day, a week, a month or a year at a time, just be assured that I'll really pay. It's in the back of my mind, but my lazy fingers is just not cooperating. Excuse them fingers for typing hasn't just been their favorite exercise lately. Rest assured that I've already called their attention and told them to get their lazy chubby fingers back to shape. They consented, but they're just warming up. A bit of a steady drizzle in the morn,

but still a beautiful view to wake up to.

GOOD MORNING EL NIDO!!!!

Waking up to you is like waking up next to a half naked Ryan Gosling.

Squirming in delight at the thought of me in you or you in me.

But you are no Ryan Gosling that I could cuddle up to,

so I'll just explore you with all my senses open instead.

LET THE EXPLORATION BEGIN!!!

Left the shores with gray clouds above.

Yet still beaming with excitement at what waits ahead.

Then unto the SMALL LAGOON we went.

SALUL! was what Hemdra exclaimed.

Upon seeing the crystal clear water that can't be found in their place.

But nothing beats the eye-gasmic view when inside the SMALL LAGOON.

I curse not having an underwater cam.

Lucky us, our companion has one.

Still no camera could ever capture the beauty that one's eyes could see.

Then off to SHIMIZU we rested and lunched.

The island named after the Japanese who got lost and died.

But death is not so bad when it's at this piece of paradise on earth.

Besides, if not for his death this island wouldn't be called SHIMIZU.

So if you want an island named after you,

all it takes is just your life really.

What's so secret of the SECRET LAGOON we went to next?

See, that hole in the picture should explain it all.

Squeeze in the body tight then exhale at the grandness that mother nature made for SECRET.

So many lagoons of different sizes and forms.

Each of them as charming and enchanting as the other.

No wonder why Alex Garland got inspired to pen The Beach at our very own El Nido.

So proud of Pinas!

Moving on ...

Of all the lagoons this is the biggest,

after all it's called the BIG LAGOON.

Sea Urchins galore,
Monkeys hanging everywhere,
Lush greenery from both towering cliffs and deepest waters,
This is as virgin as nature could get.
Or so my inexpert eye thinks.

Last Stop at the fine white sand of HELICOPTER ISLAND.

Seriously, it really looks like a helicopter from a far, or maybe a half sunk Moby Dick.

Being lazy, chummy and gay like the monkeys roaming behind the bushes is what this island will make you.

Besides, what better way to frolic in the sun and sand than at this isla with great panoramic view.

Before the sun sets farewell to a beautiful day,

I am already very much infatuated with this island I've dreamed.

Last night is the last meal with the friends we've met along the way.

At Art Cafe where the pizza is good and ambiance cool as the people in there.

A great way to end the night!

El Torro is definitely the place to chill.

Bean bags, bonfire, sand and stars....aaaahhhhh....

Infatuation turned into love...

I AM DEEPLY IN LOVE WITH EL NIDO.

We may have missed the chance to bond with our parents,

but we surely did meet the most amazing father-daughter and mother-daughter tandem.

Climbing the dangerous cliffs of Taraw with your daughter...

How cool could this 63 year old daddy get?

What about the mother who backpacked with her daughter on her last leg of Asian tour?

Aren't they just the coolest most amazing parents on the planet?!

Don't take this wrong way.

My safety freak Dad would definitely not climb the cliffs of Taraw.

My energetic, not, Mom would probably just sleep through out the entire trip

But still they are the best parents.

You know why?

Coz honey, we wouldn't have experienced the kind of experience we had, had they come along. HAHAHA.

But seriously, we literally, technically, financially, ly ly... owe them this trip.

i conquered TARAW !...

Deciding on El Nido has been somewhat of a last minute decision after our parents bailed on us for another trip that didn't include us. So as the reckless daughter addicted to adrenaline rush, I convinced my super girly girl sistah to forgo the underground river and island hopping in Puerto Princessa and just head on to El Nido instead. And convincing her includes climbing the Taraw cliffs.

Looking back though, I don't remember a lot of convincing happening. I think it was more of instructing her to bring a pair of rubber shoes for a climb. And I'm still debating whether or not I failed to mention that it's a cliff we're climbing on. But since I was already able to climb what I thought was the most dangerous climb of my life at Caramoan island, I expected less from this. So given my cocky underestimation of the warnings and difficulties of the blogs I've read about Taraw, I dragged my sister with me. Knowing that it's gonna be such a special event since it would be her first climb ever, that I know of.

Yep! that's how we climbed it. No harness, no helmets, just us and our cameras. It's tall and steep and sharp and 45 mins to the top. 45 mins for the locals, and add 30 mins to that for us.

I have to admit though that halfway there, when the rain started to drizzle and the rocks became slippery, I was having second thoughts of going all the way up. Not only did the climb get more dangerous to the point of me feeling like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible 2, hanging on a cliff, I was mainly concerned for my sister and the 63yr. old Dad who came along with us and his daughter. So while my head was playing the soundtrack of Mission Impossible, I kept thinking What Would Tom Cruise Do?... But our Kuya guide was effectively giving positive encouragements. Like a broken record saying "Kaya pa yan" and "Malapit na" to my sister's constant badgering of "Malapit na tayo Kuya?". An hour after, malapit na talaga kami.

Then finally a big sigh of relief upon reaching the top. HAAAAY!!!!!

What sucks though, is that when we got to the top all haggard and sweaty, the locals who got there before us were in full make up and get up like they were just strolling in the mall. Kaloka those kids! I cannot compete with their powers, but I will compete with their poses, sans the make up.

Isn't this just breathtaking?!

This overview of El Nido is just absolutely rewarding.

Take your time to let all this beauty sink in.

Most of all take time to take lotsa pics! hehe.

The going down however is another story. A literally difficult story to share, for I don't think there'll be sufficient words to describe the harrowing and scary journey down.

Let's just say that my sister was not happy at all. haha. It's really not funny at that moment but now it is. Thank God I get to live and laugh about it.

See my sister doesn't flip the bird as often as I speak it, but boy did she flip a lot birds that day. Birds directed at me! I guess she blames me for bringing her to that kind of adventure. Or must be pissed at the discovery of the dangerous adventures I go to. Warning me to never to do this kind of thing again. Threatening to spill my kind of activities to our Dad. Yada yada. But given the situation that the rocks were slippery, got a bit lost in the way, forest turning dark, her cellphone as our only source of light, and our companion calling for rescue, the birds and threats thrown at me were very much understood. It was such an emotional and spiritual (prayed so hard) experience, that I silently almost heeded her threats. However it was forgotten the moment we stepped on the sturdy flat land. I was just so happy to have us landed safely.

With dirty bums and sweaty backs, I am so proud of me sistah! Seriously, it was such a great feat for her and me too! Another one on the mark... conquered Taraw... check!

So here's the thing we learned upon talking to a local at the resort after our adventure. #1. No one was supposed to climb on the afternoons (we climb at 3pm) #2. Our guide wasn't really a registered guide but an ordinary tricycle driver chancing upon some cash. What can I say, I didn't know... oh well lessons learned.

But if there is one great lesson that the experience or climbing in general taught me, it's to not only bear and sharpen the presence of mind but to always look out for your companions. That alone just makes me realize that even in the most difficult of times, the world is not just all about you.

puerto P... the greenest place to be...

What was supposed to be the first ever family trip, turned out to be yet another travel bonding moment with my sisterette and our cousin Ruthie, who by the way is sooo full of sunshine (we wish!).

Thus on November something-ish, 2011, we journeyed to the land our mother dearest forever dreamed of - Palawan. Knowing how mother nature-y our mom is and how she hates overrated crowded places, I certainly can understand why she dreams of it. Now that I've experienced it firsthand, I can't wait to bring her there, my dad included (for the financial support haha).

But going to Palawan doesn't really need a lot of moolah. It's not that we have a lot of moolah to bring anyway, coz we certainly don't, but it's a pretty affordable place to vacation on. And trust me, in this land of abundant greens and blues, you wouldn't be interested in holing up at some cold dry concrete hotels, because honey, you'll be missing half the authentic Palawan experience.

the cool place where cool people stays.

Yes, I proclaim our coolness with all exclamation(!!!). haha. My sister was the one who discovered this on the net, and I have to give her credit coz she usually finds the coolest budget places to sleep on our travels. Moving on away from the compliments, Banwa Pension has been published in the Lonely Planet guide books as well as on several travel sites, so it has been quite known among the backpacking world. So it's not difficult to imagine that in the country of Filipinos we were the only Filipinos booking there. DUDE! In that place, we were so foreign! haha.

I cannot explain how cool the aesthetics of this place is nor how friendly their staff are, but I can tell you that if it is Filipino artistry you want, and only simply needs the basics of bath and bed, then this is the go to sleep.

Go barefoot in the delight of their sumptuous meals. The food is good but it's the place that's gonna make you keep on coming back. I am so in love with the shiny hardwood floors, the squatting , the paintings, the lighting, the art... GO EAT!!!!!! the experience.

See Louis Vuitton, Hermes and etc. at its fine breathing rawness. This was probably the only chance of me getting close to those brands. The breeding ground of the Crocs before they become someone else's handbags and step-ons. Pity those Crocs, if they only could choose their fates then I guess they'd be more than content at just opening their mouths for the flies to land on. Oh well, at least you guys don't come cheap.

Also, walk in the woods of the conservation center and get the chance to meet these birdies. I forgot their names but I'm pretty sure they're endangered. All the more reason for it to be a must walk. A tip for these walks though, put lotsa OFF lotion coz the mosquitos can be deadly. Other than that, the wild animals are tame. Or so I think.

That Palawan Binturong was heavy though.

Baker's Hill an interesting food park situated in the hilly spots of Puerto Princessa. An assortment of playthings, statues and food. Don't have much else to say but we were there for the hopia that my sister has been dying to try since. However it was their crinkles that was heavenly. Soft chewy choco crinkles.... yum!!!!

They have peacocks too. The peacock cock cock, the peacock! Or as Askal sang it in her vid. Such fine elegant birds.

What could possibly be more authentic than eating Palawan's local delicacy. Tamilok. You get your choice of breaded or raw Tamilok. Be bold and choose the raw, then you get that long raw gray slimy dish. It looks like worm because it is a worm. A woodworm. A mangrove worm. How it tastes like is an oyster. A long slimy choking oyster. Do we like it? uhmmm....

Once was probably enough... hahahaha.

Interesting tidbit!

Palawan's cleanliness can be compared to that of Singapore's as well as their strict implementation of laws. Seriously, I haven't seen a trash left on the roadside. Must be because any resident can arrest and fine you with littering, and that ordinance is well disseminated, as evidenced in the posters and stickers of their trikes and etc.

as I said too many happenings has happened lately, nothing that big of a deal really except for that one big realization that has finally slapped me big time in the face or shall i say tummy. YES! i have a big bloating tummy, and it's not looking pretty.. AT ALL!

i knew that i had a tummy problem, but like any addict i was in denial and i was hiding it behind my fashionably loose shirts and tops. unfortunately, i could deny no longer that when in bikini the abs in my head are actually flabs in reality, with pictures and videos as my gaddamn! reminder. so tomorrow i shall start my rehabilitation and hit the gym. for real this time.... haaaay hope....

so for the last meal before my hours of torture....

i owe the simplest pasta recipe to our favorite frenchie girl crush Anouck. Here's how...

1. Saute white onions in olive oil then add a dash of sugar.

2. On the other side of the pan fry the salmon. Then mix them together.

3. Add the cream and toss the penne in.

4. a sprinkle with salt and pepper.

5. then EAT!

Trust me it's really good. Reminder to self : thank Anouck big time!!!

As for the salad... naaah i just got that from the magazine and made some twists. I won't write the how to coz it's long and i'm turning lazy. hehe.

Sided it with my ever reliable garlic oregano bread. there goes my dish on the right.
