The growth of demand, meanwhile, is outpacing the growth of new hotel rooms, meaning the trend is likely to continue. Australia's federal court said that Meriton Property Services violated consumer law by preventing guests who had complained or may have had negative experiences from getting a "Review Express" email inviting them to review the property on TripAdvisor. The court said that between November 2014 and October 2015, hotel workers gave TripAdvisor invalid email addresses for complaining customers so they wouldn't get the emails. If a property had a major disruption, they wouldn't submit any guests' email addresses. The court said Meriton's conduct "was likely to mislead or deceive" because it inflated the number of good reviews in relation to bad reviews and even improved some properties' rank on the TripAdvisor website.

Fired Haitian workers at South Beach hotel SLS get $2.5 million in discrimination suit
Four years ago, something bitter was brewing in the kitchens of the ritzy SLS South Beach hotel. The hotel is in the same building as the Crooks Den bar, just a half-block west of Beach Street and Daytona Beach's Fire Station No. The Daytona Beach Fire Department had records for three other fires at the hotel since 2010.

Family of 6 killed in massive hotel fire in Berrien County
according to Family of 6 killed in massive hotel fire in Berrien CountyMichael Caterina, South Bend Tribune via APWZZM-TV (Grand Rapids) | Detroit Free PressBENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Authorities in Berrien County are investigating what caused a massive fire at an extended stay hotel that killed a family of six and sent several others to the hospital. According to the Berrien County Sheriff's Office, dispatch received a 911 call around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday. The sheriff's office reports a family of six — a mother and her five children, ages two through ten — were killed in the fire. Preliminary estimates from the sheriff's office show that about 90 percent of the rooms at the Cosmo Extended Living Hotel sustained smoke, fire or water damage. The Michigan State Police Fire Marshall Division will assist the Berrien County Sheriff's Office to determine a cause and origin to the massive fire.

Racist room note left by previous guest, Sarasota hotel says

as declared in Room 622 at the Art Ovation Hotel in downtown Sarasota, the scene where a racist note was found. The growth of demand, meanwhile, is outpacing the growth of new hotel rooms, meaning the trend is likely to continue. In fiscal 2017, the state tax generated $255.5 million and the local tax generated $206 million. For some municipalities, the local tax -- enacted in 2009 -- is helping local budgets. Together, the state and local rooms tax accounted for about 1.7 percent of the $26.4 billion the state collected during fiscal 2017.

NGT voices concern over illegal groundwater extractions by hotels

collected by :Frank Ithan

NGT voices concern over illegal groundwater extractions by hotels"The illegal drawing of groundwater by hotels for their commercial interest is not something which can be permitted if environment has to be protected and scarce resources are to be saved," an NGT bench said. The following year the St. James post office opened about a mile west of the present site of St. James. The year 1858 also saw the first county courthouse constructed at St. James in the form of a 30-by-40-foot, two-story, oak timber, $2,000 building. Because of its transportation connection, St. Helena began growing faster than St. James, and in 1869 an election moved the county seat from St. James to St. Helena, which incorporated as a village in 1871. "We have drafted a '3R' (restructure, reengineer and reimagine) strategy with the objective of doubling the room keys and expanding the operating margin by 800 bps over the next five years. "Accordingly we will open eight new properties this year in the country," he said, adding "we are growing at 8-10 per cent now and we plan to increase this to 30 per cent in the next few years. "As a cumulative result of all these factors, demand growth in the hotel industry has been clearly outpacing supply, leading to a surge in occupancies and average revenue per room," he said. After six long years, IHCL turned profitable in FY18 years with a Rs 101 crore net income on a revenue of Rs 4,165 crore. This also helped it reduce debt to around Rs 2,400 crore from a peak of Rs 5,800 crore, he added. The IHCL counter was trading 2.5 per cent down at Rs 125.85 on the BSE against a 0.5 per cent gain in the benchmark at 1445 hrs.

Robot butlers at this hotel deliver food, toiletries to rooms

collected by :Frank Ithan

LivingRobot butlers at this hotel deliver food, toiletries to roomsLas Vegas remains the national testing lab for the eccentric and over-the-top, and Sin City is staking that claim yet again with the introduction of "robot butlers" at the Vdara Hotel and Spa on the strip.
