While it is hard to believe, just about 2 years ago the world got its first look at what would soon become the premier podcast for new music known to human kind, The Half Hour Music Hour (yeah right). But seriously, it has been a great run so far as we look back on the show. With all of your help we have increased our listenership of 10 times since the Episode 1 and we have enjoyed every minute of bringing the show to you and all we can say is, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

For our 2nd Anniversary episode we figured we do what we do best, bring you 16 get tracks of music (sorry for the long runtime this time) with new music from big bands you all know like Vampire Weekend, Spoon, Animal Collective and Yeasayer but we also have a bunch of great stuff from some more obscure bands like The Berndt and Givers.

So we took a little more time off from the last episode than we may have liked but we never stopped listening to music. We have a bunch of new tracks here that with any luck will make it into the Top 40 of 2009 show that is coming up. In last years Half Hour Music Hour of Horrors we didn’t really have any themed music but this year we have tried to include some tracks with ghoulish themes or titles. Belle & Sebastian start it off in the graveyard with The Black Hollies adding to the gloom. David Mead adds to the ambiance with some rainy weather. There is some upbeat stuff too though with great tracks from Passion Pit, The Guggenheim Grotto, and HHMH favorites The Decemeberists. Enjoy and don’t eat too much candy!!!

Up until know we have tended to play mostly “Indie/Hipster” music (I know labels suck but what can you do?) and although we will never give up on that scene, Ep 30 marks a small change in direction for the Half Hour Music Hour. You will start to notice a broader range of music not only in genre but in time. We will give you time to adjust so don’t freak out, but get ready to start hearing cutting edge stuff like The Limousines back to back with Green Day. Try to wrap you head around Dub Pistols going into Ben Kweller. Of course we still have stuff like The Decemberists and Sufjan Stevens but start getting ready to hear all kinds of music that the Strangedesign.net team grew up on. We get a lot of questions about our format and usually have to answer that we play mostly Indie Rock/Pop (boy do we hate that label) but in general we don’t care about the artist’s fame, genre, or credit scores. Sure today we have Coldplay, The Apples in Stereo, and Death Cab For Cutie but we also have Stars and Sons, Brandtson, and Or, The Whale. There is just one rule and one rule only in getting on the Half Hour Music Hour and that is we have to like the music. To prove that point for the 25th episode we decided to really reach deep into our bag of tricks try to put together our most eclectic show to date but one that I think you will all love. We really don’t have any idea how a particular show is going to sound when we start and don’t even have a theme usually in mind. In general we take all of the music we have been listening to lately, mix in a little bit of stuff that friends and listeners send out way, and finally get stuff directly from bands and labels. Once we get that all we just listen to that list all week slowly widdling it down. Sometimes though certain trends do emerge. In this episode, no such thing really happened but we did wind up with a tight albeit it a little short show. We have some stuff from 2008 standouts Mates of State and Sigur Ros. Half Hour Music Hour – Ep. 14 – Live Without A Net

As you know we try to keep it new and fresh here at StrangeDesign.net and this episode is no different. For the 14th Episode, the title says it all, Live Without A Net. While we usually work with a script to record the show (shocking isn’t it?) we decided to do this one live. Well sort of we did do a bunch of takes to get it sounding okay. We thought this was just another cool way to keep the show fun. (actually we were just busy as all heck this week and didn’t have time to research and write a script). Half way through the year and so far we have no complaints with the music being release in 2008. We have a few favorite albums so far and will play a couple of songs from those in this episode such as Thao Nguyen with the Get Down Stay Down. We are also going to pay tribute to ska/reggae legend Desmond Dekker and try to put the spot light on a couple of home town bands from Washington DC including Julie Ocean. We even have a new release from The BPA, a pretty interesting a collaboration of music giants. Sorry the large amount of iTunes links this show, but Amazon while still my favorite place to buy music (did we every tell you how much we hate DRM) is still a little short on their catalog, especially for more obscure acts. So the summer has officially begun. Well okay no it hasn’t but schools are getting out and we just got back from the beach and that sounds like summer to us. We had a lot of time to find new music and it shows as a lot of the tunes this week are fresh from 2008. We have our normal spectrum of Indie acts like What Made Milwaukee Famous and Mates of State all the way out to brand new B-52’s and some classic Phish. And of course we included some Swedes and Brits like The Sweet Serenades and The Lodger. So sit back, grab a frosty beverage, and put on your headphones because this is one great show.

Welcome to our 4th show. We have quite the eclectic mix of music in this episode from some brand new tunes from Black Kids and Voxtrot to some great ones from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! and Arcade Fire. We even threw in a little bit of Depeche Mode and The Black Crowes to send us back to the early 90’s. We are also really excited to announce our new feature “The After Party”. Some times it will be extended content from one of our feature artists and other times it will just be some great music that just doesn’t fit the format of our show.

Greetings and Salutations!!!

Welcome to the StrangeDesign.net were we will be publishing some of the best podcasts around. Our theme? Well music of course. Our genre? Seriously we hate labels so here you will hear everything from unsigned Indie bands like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Ravens & Chimes to well establish Jambands like Phish and the Disco Biscuits. Every once in a while we will even throw in some Oakenfold or Morrissey just for fun.

Now for the stats, we will be pushing out our podcast as a 128 kbps VBR MP3. All links to the music will be for purchasing either the digital version or a hard copy if we can’t find it digitally. How do you get the podcast? Well easy, just bookmark www.strangedesign.net and come here every few weeks for new shows. This being Web 2.0, you can also add our RSS Feed to your favorite feed reader or go old school and sign-up for our email update. We will also have our stuff up in the iTunes podcast catalog as well.
