The majority of what I have been wearing lately has been thrifted or upcycled and this has consequently got me interested in a small goal. If you ever listen to lectures on TED.com, you may have heard this speech about not stating goals publicly, but instead talking about your goal after you have accomplished it. The instant gratification we get after getting praised about our upcoming goal frequently shatters the road to the goal itself, because the accomplishment has already been rewarded before we even start. I understand that this is true, and for whatever reason goal stating is a HUGE pet peeve of mine (which I have talked about before, I know, I know.) I don't feel overly ambitious about stating my small, accomplishable goal for the next month because I am currently in the middle of it. For February and March I am only purchasing thrifted clothing (this excludes shoes and jewelry). When I triumphantly reach the end of March, I may tack another month on to it. I am somewhat of a clothing hoarder and buyer doing loads of online shopping, so this is a rather large game plan in my world. As of now, this month has been a success. The reason for this thrifting notion is to achieve a much larger goal. My lips are sealed, though, until said secret larger aim is accomplished. But really, thrifting is great anyway. I've noticed that some Goodwill locations have (finally!) arranged their racks by size. No more weeding through a bunch of XXL tops and dresses I wish would fit. Just a straight beeline to my section. If all the other thrift stores would figure this out I could be a speed thrift shopper to the max.

On a different note, how great is that spiked friendship ring? My Little Fish Eye makes great friendship accessories, much of them studded. I am excited to wear the bracelet she sent as well. Spikes4life. Spikes4evr.

I about had a heart attack when I had only the amount of time it takes to put together a skateboard to shop at Wasteland in San Francisco. I have awesome friends, though, who understood my panic and allotted me more time to shop around before we ventured off into the city. I found these RAD jeans along with a ton of other goodies. I plan on turning these bad boys into shorts when the weather permits.

I came home to a plethora of packages from companies, which honestly kind of stressed me out. Everything stresses me out, it seems (?). But, I have decided to de-stress and slow down, focusing on the positive and spending more time self reflecting. Gifts are freaking positive, idiot Casey! I was sent this necklace by Artemis Art and I can't stop wearing it. I love the mixed metals and the organic shape of the eyes. Check out Artemis Art here. Just a few snapshots from the last 2 weeks of my month vacation. So much going on right now. I finally got a dog who takes up a ton of my time along with an unbelievable amount of things to catch up on and do now that I am back in Snowville (Miserableville, rather). I will be back to outfit posting as soon as I get over this sadness of being back and get things more situated around here. Life, man. I want to be back on the beach.

It's weird not being on the internet during my "free" time. All I want to do is sleep. The snow and ice encourages me to do absolutely nothing.

My vacation is nearing its end and as suspected I am incredibly down about it. I am, however, excited to end the repetitive suitcase outfit mumbo jumbo. I expected to shop way more than what I have but instead I continue to find myself being pulled by the strongest magnetic forces to the beaches around here. I wish the days were longer so I could spend more time outside. Though I frequent California rather often, this past month I have learned so much about myself by being out here. I cannot wait to return again. Almost time to take the end of vacation road trip through the southwest deserts before I end up in the dreary cold midwest again. Major yuck. And major suck.

Per usual, it is incredibly ambitious of me to think of writing content because I am so distracted by the beach and movies on top of being surrounded by people at all times lately. Right now I have 4 dogs playing in front of me while 3 of us are chowing down donuts. And yes - Ludacris is in the movie we have on.

I have probably spent more time on the shores of Laguna Beach than the people living there, as I cannot imagine someone that works to death so they can afford their 18 million dollar house having much time to spend on the sand. Today instead of going to the beach, hiking in the Laguna Canyon hills sounded like fun. California Winter is so harsh...on my eyes. Because of sun. I could get used to this.

THE LAST 2 WEEKS

I have not been posting as much due to only having a suitcase of clothing for the month. Most of it being repetitive and tie dye. And shorts. I hope you enjoy this little montage I have put together to show what I have been filling up my time with lately. The beach has been a staple during the day hours and the nights being filled with exploring and hanging out with friends. I've done a little shopping, but with this weather being so fantastic, it's hard not to spend all of my waking hours on the sand. As far as shopping goes - that little perfume necklace is probably my favorite find. Sunday was spent at the Melrose flea market with Madeline and her friend when I happened upon this lil' gem. I want to store everything in its metal womb. Pills, potions, moonshine, you name it. And yes, Madeline looks exactly like she does in her photos - stunning, stylish, and bite size.

Just another day in paradise. Everything but the jacket and shorts are from Buffalo Exchange. I'm currently trying to figure out if I should just man up and move here. The beach is luring me in hard, as it always does. Nothing beats this weather, either. NOTHING. January and shorts? Those two don't make much sense together until I come out here. The jacket was actually making me sweat as it is really only necessary after the sun goes down.

For those of you currently living in southern California - what do you do for a living?

SUMMASUMMA TIME

The past week I have been spending a large amount of my life in the car, doped up on NoDoz, 5 hour energy, coffee, Zipfizz, and Monster - all at the same time. I have a plethora of photos from throughout road trip #1, but I will post some of those later. We've hiked in Arches and Moab, explored the deserts of Utah and Nevada again, entered the Twilight Zone of Mormonville(s), stayed at my second/old home in the SF bay, and now I remain in southern California for the rest of the month where I will spend much needed time at the beach and hanging out with some of my favorite people. These photos were shot a few hours ago in the HEAT.

SHORTS. All I care about wearing. Give me Summer or give me death. Shorts shorts shorts shorts shorts.

I've got lots to say but I am surrounded by a million skateboarders sample tasting whiskeys. Cool.

As far as the partying goes, to me New Year's Eve is just another night minus tights add cold wind. Every year is hyped up and then always a disappointment of some sort, typically weather related. With that being the trend, I have decided to no longer hype up any night. All weekend nights are lame and full of male predators until proven otherwise. Usually I am proven wrong and in turn end the night with a big cheesy grin plastered on my face until I fall asleep.

I cringe a little when I hear talk of outrageous NYE resolutions because I am a pessimist and have little faith in people's words and a lot of faith in their laziness. For those of you who have successfully completed last years resolution(s), congratulations - and slap me in the face! In fact, I would love to regain conviction in the general publics ability to stick with goals that require the start date of January 1st. My outlook on this is largely due to the fact that I don't believe I would stick with a typical year long resolution that is so contrasted to who I am or what I am doing currently. I tend to really REALLY try to stick to my word, so I set realistic goals that don't go "public" until I know I can and will be on my way to achieving them. When people throw out these theoretical new year lifestyles, I can't help but roll my eyes knowing they are frivolously lying to themselves and they don't even realize it yet. After years of sitting on the couch pigging out you're suddenly going to hit the gym 6 days a week and cut out pizza? But only after January 1st sadly comes? People, come on. You're setting yourself up for failure and how is that motivating? I believe in realistic determination and goals, so if you are one to always set a New Year's resolution and then come next year you realize you failed, be more conscious of who you are. Don't completely stop doing the things you love, but set goals that can be achieved instead. The more you say and don't put into action, the less likely you are to stick with future goals and the harder you will be on yourself. And the more you say you will do things and then don't, the less I take you seriously. The less anyone takes you seriously. I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but I really get sad when people consistently flake or quit.

I hope you all do make pragmatic goals, and I give a big high five to those who stick with what they say. Realistically in 2012 I hope to travel a lot, continue my work out regimen, and read more Edward Abbey. Off to a month long vacation of deserts and oceans and road tripping. Peace out, I will be updating this as I go.

Edit: I feel as though I have made everyone believe that I think they should not make ANY resolutions - that resolutions are stupid. This is not the case, you should ALWAYS try to make goals and better yourself. I'm not that much of a pessimist. ;-)

If you didn't notice in the last post, I now have this weird face framing bang thing going on. When I wear my glasses I feel like Garth from Wayne's World. I guess that is acceptable. These photos were taken the other day when I was caught in the sea and morphed into a human. I dig this net top from Movement 33 Vintage. It's super random and crazy and makes me feel like a mermaid. Random and not making a ton of sense makes the most sense in my wardrobe. I'm all over the board.

WEEKEND ATTIRE

Just thought I would share a few outfit photos from this holiday weekend. Nothing too outrageous, but who's really paying attention to clothes when you have adorable dogs to look at? Aside from road tripping through the hot sunny desert, one scenario that makes me feel like I am in heaven is being surrounded by loving pups while holding the most pathetic domesticated creature in existence. That little chihuahua was rescued from a puppy mill, timidly loves people, and I WANT HIM. If he were mine I would name him Sticky.

This is what I wore out last night + beanie. One of my newer sponsors American Deadstock sent me a package of goodies which included this top and vest. Are you as sick of these indoor photos as I am? I just want to GO OUTSIDE. UGH. WINTER LIFE. On a happier note, I am so incredibly hyped on my latest thrift store finds. Or maybe I am hyped on the quantity of findings. I came home with a huge garbage bag full of clothes for under 35 dollars. Seriously, whaaat? My arm is literally in throbbing pain today from the huge mountain of skirts and jackets I had resting on it while browsing the thrift store. So. Many. Things. For so freaking cheap. Photographed in this post is a cheesy Nebraska tee that I roughed up a little, as well as this skirt. Both were 99 cents. On top of the multitude of clothing finds, my brother had sent me a text with a photo of this vintage table that he had at his thrift store:

Don't mind the neon paper, or the smudgy marks that I will have to clean off. How amazing is this? It came with 2 matching end tables. 30 bucks for all of it. I am SO psyched on it.

A.D.D. WALL

So, it's Winter. This beanie is fused to my head for the next couple of months. Sorry about the redundancy of its appearance in my posts. I was at my parents house eating dinner and (obviously) watching Breaking Bad with my maja and faja, when I decided maybe I could take a few photos in my old room/basement. Have fun looking at all that old crap all over the neon wall. It's jam packed full of memories throughout the years and I hope it never gets painted over. The entire basement is actually covered with painted pictures, sharpie drawings, and spray paint tags. On one wall I painted an entire beach scene when I was a teenager, which has since been covered over with hot pink paint and I believe now has a unicorn with a 5'oclock shadow wearing a business suit drawn on it with a black sharpie. Artistic family, I must say.

I got these boots during the Solestruck Black Friday weekend sale. Hellz yes. The snow has already ruined them, so that's cool. Winter is so great. So nice and convenient and comfortable. Anyway, I have spent this weekend barely sleeping due to insane polish partying involving chair breaking and a polka band and shots of Jezynowka, so I am going to take a much needed nap before I pass out on the keyboard.

This top I got on sale for 9 dollars. Bra from American Apparel. Beanie from Urban Outfitters. And, the reason for the post, new hair. Kind of. Put some color onto half of it. Makes for an interesting twist on Cruella DeVille in the modern day of colorful dip dyes and ombres. Thought I'd do something similar, but my own way. Less horizontal and more vertical. More smudge than dip. Half-smudge-dye is what I will call it. It's a bit more magenta-pink than what it looks like in these photos. Partial Cruella hair. Next new thing, you just wait.

I now have a tumblr, people. Full of clothes and chicks with style that I love. And, of course, wishful daydream landscapes of deserts. Duh.

So many things I would like to talk about here. First, being lazy and having my butt fused to the couch, I have created a tumblr account. I am new, I don't quite understand, and I need cool people to follow. Help me out! Second, I wore this the other night...as there was not a sheet of ICE over snow on the ground like there is right now. This 7 dollar coat that I found reminded my friend Michelle of Almost Famous, so I will say from now on that this is my Penny Lane coat. Way better than "thrift store coat". That tank would not have sufficed unless the coat stayed on, had I worn this today or last night. This weather is making me want to murder someone. Or get a dog. Currently in the process of trying to get a dog. Living downtown on the 5th floor of an old fruit warehouse turned apartment building, where there really isn't anything but restaurants, bars, and shops around...I am told I cannot have a dog. No no NO dog. "Unless you have a medical note for a service dog." Okay. I have now made an appointment with a random therapist so I can let them know how crazy and full of anxiety I am unless I'm around animals so I can get a medical note for a "service dog" that will help "calm me down". I have a feeling this will fall through, but other psychiatrists that I know on a more personal level have told me that it is very likely I can get that doggie prescription note. Wish me luck. My dog will be named Sticky, if I get one. The Stick.

Oh yeah, this is a fashion blog, right? Maybe I should talk about something less personal and conniving? I will start with the leggings. Kayleigh Peddie is a designer I have been somewhat obsessing over (another mental issue I have - being obsessive? yes, I'm obsessive! solution: dog.). On top of awesome tees and skirts, she makes PERFECT velvet leggings and cropped tops with exactly-my-style prints. I was lucky enough to be sent these high waisted leopard leggings that I am convinced I will wear the crap out of. Here are some examples of her immense raddness. Check out her store here.

Next up, Scavenged Art. I couldn't be more happy with this bone necklace that Suzanne custom made for me. With the skulls and the bones and the black chain, this is the ideal pinch of voodoo I enjoy in my accessories. I've got a serious witch love when it comes to my jewelry. I've posted about them before, but jeesh. I mean, seriously? This is probably the only single online boutique that I continuously obsess over week after week.
