Aside from being one of the few Streaks still (officially) sold, Dell is also provided developers and Android hackers the code and kernels for the phone, as well.

As further proof that the Round Rock, Texas, company is still investing in the Streak, it released the Streak Pro GS01. It's the device you see to your left.

Currently, the GS01 is available only in Japan on the country's eMobile network. This network is Japan's fastest, pushing speeds at an insane 75Mb/s!

As tipster Themanii explains, the GS01 and the already-released D43 and 101DL are all the same device with varying ROMs being the only differentiator between them. This makes sense, too, considering that the D43 and 101DL are loaded with Baidu's Yi and not Android.

I know that the Streak Pro doesn't offer a lot of the features we fell in love with the Streak line in the first place, but these are pretty good-looking phones. It would be really awesome if Dell sold the GS01 (with Android, not Yi) here in the States, but I doubt it.

Hey! Remember towards the beginning of the month when we reported on the release of the Dell Streak Pro's kernel? Well, here we are in the second-to-last week of February with yet another release of . . . something.

Normally, we're pretty good at identifying what files are that have been released, but these ones have us stumped. In fact, our good friend Giveen, who sent the tip, didn't know what they were, either.

If I had to bet on what it is, I would place my money on the files being an updated version of the kernel that we saw earlier this year. But honestly, I just don't know. If you'd like to help us figure out exactly what these files are, just leave a comment and we'll update the post with a great big thanks from the team here at StreakSmart.

The files are listed below - just click on the filename to commence the download.

Update: Themanii gives a great explanation in the comments. Thanks for the answer!

If you've been less than impressed with your Dell Streak 5's signal strength, today is your lucky day. A developer over at xda-developers has created a mod for the Streak 5 that helps to improve your signal strength.

It should be noted that this doesn't have anything to do with the antenna itself; instead, this mod chooses the best profile based on numerous factors. And remember to make a backup before you attempt any of this!

With that out of the way, let's get into the mod itself. Provided that you already have a rooted Streak and a file explorer app, all you'll need to do is add the following to /system/build.prop:

ro.ril.hsxpa=2

ro.ril.gprsclass=12

ro.ril.hep=1

ro.ril.enable.dtm=1

ro.ril.hsdpa.category=8

ro.ril.enable.a53=1

ro.ril.enable.3g.prefix=1

ro.ril.htcmaskw1.bitmask = 4294967295

ro.ril.htcmaskw1 = 14449

ro.ril.hsupa.category = 5

Let us know if it helps!

There were a few things that were shared today that we didn't already know when the phone was originally announced back in December. For starters, we learned that the 4.3-inch AMOLED display has a qHD resolution (960 x 540) and that the body is 10.3mm thick, which is a bit thicker than other phones, though not a big deal.

Other than that, though, the new info is just a nice walkthrough of all this device has to offer. Unfortunately, due to its running Baidu's Yi operating system, I doubt you'll be able to get one without paying any tariffs.

If the Streak Pro did make an official appearance wherever you live, though, would you pick one up?

While we don't hear much about the Dell Streak Pro in the United States, there are a few tidbits of news dealing with the device that make it to our inboxes. Today brings us one of those tidbits. Dell has quietly released the Streak Pro kernel.

A kernel, as you probably know, is the central component of most all operating systems. It deals with all of a system's resources and can be tweaked to do so in the most efficient manner. By releasing the Streak Pro's kernel, Dell has made it easier for devs and hackers to make efficient hacks, apps, and ROMs for the device, as well as giving more information to learn about the device.

Like always, it's nice to see that Dell still cares about the Streak line of phones and tablets, but I'm still pretty upset by the discontinuations that happened in the United States.

Usually you pay a premium for that protection, but fortunately, Dell is clearing out its inventory of cases for just $20.

Okay, so it's $0.03 over $20, but it's a still great deal. Normally, this case sells for $59.99, but with the current sale going on, you're saving $39.95. That's about two thirds of the regular price that you don't have to pay!

If you want to get in on this deal, I'd suggest heading to the Dell Store listing that is linked below. It's the case that we recommend if your biggest need in a case is protection.

When I buy a device, I like to put my investment to work for me. Android has some great productivity apps for people of all professions, but I do believe that most of them are held back by small keyboards and poor ergonomics.

Luckily for us, third-party accessory manufacturers can help in those areas. Logitech has the solution for Dell Streak 7 users: a tablet keyboard and stand combo for use with Android 3.0+.

For $64.99, you can get this combo from Dell's online store. The stand is actually seperate from the keyboard, and acts as both a stand and the case for the keyboard. Simply open the stand/case up, take the keyboard out, and pop out the little tablet stand from it. After you complete those very easy steps, you'll be typing your way through theses and legal documents via Bluetooth.

I'm a huge fan of Logitech peripherals. I have a Performance Mouse MX and K800 on my desk right now, and I'm considering adding this accessory to my collection, as well. Let us know in the comments if you pick one of these up!

If you're unhappy with your Dell Streak 5's battery life, and haven't pulled the trigger on either standard or incredibly massive third party batteries, I give you an eBay posting that's just what you're looking for.

The 5-inch Streak comes with a 1530mAh battery inside. Although it's not a really big battery by any standards (especially when you consider that it's giving power to a 5-inch screen and some power-thirsty components), Dell does allow owners to open their devices up and swap batteries if they need to.

Like I said at the beginning of the post, there have been a few third party attempts and battery replacements for the Streak 5, but unfortunately, they were either the same size as the original or way too big to fit in the device. A company called Ecell is offering a Streak 5 battery with almost 1000mAh of extra capacity for just $21.35 and completely free shipping, which puts it in the middle of the two aforementioned batteries.

The link to the eBay posting is right below. Let us know if you'll be pulling the trigger!

Update: As filotti pointed out in the comments, this Ecell company might not be the most reliable. This post and this post are from xda-forums, where people are complaining about it.

CES hasn't exactly the biggest source of news for StreakSmart, but we do have a nice little bit of information directly from Dell about the future of its tablet line.

A few days after the Streak 7 was discontinued, Dell came out and said that it wasn't totally leaving the Streak line of tablets or Android. I was skeptical, especially given Michael Dell's attitude towards Android. But now, I can see that the company is still pretty invested into Google's platform.

Dell's CCO (chief commercial officer) Steve Felice had this to say about future Dell tablets and which operating systems they would be running:

"We like Windows 8 but we continue to develop with Android as well. We are still going to be more choice-driven, based on the feedback we get from customers."

So, there you have it. Dell's new line of Streaks (or whatever name they pick out) will most likely run either Windows 8 or Android. There's also the option of dual-booting both operating systems, which would be an awesome selling point for a brand that's very easily recognized.
