Rene Ritchie has done just that and it’s a very good article, covering all the options.

Do check out my own article on the topic from January this year, which is not as long nor does it contain any mockups of 4-inch iPhones, compared to Ritchie’s excellent article.

Nothing wrong with that, and even the head honcho Michael Dell himself attended.

What was very wrong, was the conduct and the “show” that the moderator of the event, Mads Christensen, put on. I don’t know much about him, but from what I can gather, he tends to go off on rants about how men are superior to women and how women should stay out of a man way. Which is pretty much what he did at this Dell summit.

It’s not too often I get really, and I mean really, pissed off about stupid things people do, in the tech sphere or otherwise, but this sure managed to do just that. These brain-dead attitudes should have been relegated to the history books a long time ago and that a company like Dell would willingly go and approve this tripe to be “performed” in front of some 800 employees and representatives of companies they work with? Unbelievable. And utterly tasteless.

Do go read McCracken’s article and get yourself a good idea about what we are dealing with.

I’ve been saying it for almost as long as I have been running this site and I’ll most likely continue saying it well into the future: When you see DigiTimes mentioned in an article about a future Apple product, close the tab and move on!

Two new articles over at BTN

Once the Bagel Tech Network, now the British Tech Network. I still enjoy writing articles and having them published there and will continue doing so in the future. In fact, two were published just yesterday. Check them via these handy links:

An open webOS

A dangerous mentality

The webOS article was actually written at the end of last year, but I forgot about it until Ewen recently discovered it in the system and put it up for the world to behold.

And while you are at the British Tech site, go check out the awesome podcasts on the network. I particularly like Worlds Apart and you really can’t go wrong with the Big Show!
You know, there’s a lot of admire about Panasonic. They tend to go about their business and make their own way, not looking too much at what’s trendy or what other companies are doing. This latest laptop is no exception. It packs a ton of up-to-date technology under the hood, all quite impressive.

That said… it’s one ugly beast of a laptop! Who green-lighted this industrial design? At least they didn’t “get inspired” by Apple!

dbuntinx: Think different

dbuntinx: Think different:
dbuntinx:

I’m sitting on a train writing this, listening to The Beatles’ Revolver album and occasionaly glancing out of the window watching the Flemish landscape slowly rolling by.

I’m on the road with my iPhone, doing things on a device smaller than a cigarette box. Things that one was unable to do at all…

But instead of me getting my hands dirty or having to outsource it to someone who gives a damn, Harry Marks did an excellent job already.

I’ve said it before and Mr. Marks emphasizes it perfectly:

I have one word of advice for news outlets looking to publish rumors perpetuated by DigiTimes: STOP

I couldn’t agree more!

The Big Android Chart™: A Definitive History of Android Version Adoption

The Big Android Chart™: A Definitive History of Android Version Adoption:
Here’s some interesting reading regarding the version adoption of Android and an interesting peek into how well the latest version (Android 4.0) is doing compared to earlier releases. It’s not a pretty sight, really…

I honestly don’t think Android is a bad system or platform. Not at all. On a technical level it’s a very competent and clever system. No, what I have against Android is all the nitwits out there bastardizing it and leaving customers on old software when they could just as well be cruising along with the latest and the greatest.

Yes, you can argue that a great deal of the Android-based smartphones out there have owners who couldn’t care less about all the features and improvements that come with the newer version of Android, simply because they use the device as a glorified feature phone. Then again, there are those people in the PC-sphere too, and we very much like to see them update their software, no?

I’m just really saddened by the lack of traction behind Android 4.0, specially given what an improvement it is in many ways over the previous versions.

That time when I contemplate for a while wether if I will renew the domain for another year and keep going. While this site is in no way as impressive, as well known or as respected as the very fine Macstories.net or The Bro Show of 70 Decibels fame, I have now been running Streakmachine.com for two years. One year younger than Macstories and roughly the same age as The Bro Show. I try to take this lightly as I have not really accomplished anything in the grand scheme of things. But I do appreciate and respect my small and faithful audience from all corners of the world.

I decided to do at least one annual review of how I’m doing with the site and this year I’ve realized a few things. First off, I’m still not overly focused on one singular topic. I hop around between a few different things, mostly whatever catches my eye at the time. I feel pretty comfortable with this and I’ll continue doing it and see where that takes me and the site.

Secondly, I have greatly reduced the amount of time and posts I spend digging into new Apple rumors and analyzing them to pieces, which was one of the things I did a lot in the early days of the site. I just don’t have the energy and the time to commit to going through all of the outlandish and base-less rumors that the rumor mill spews out on the Internet on a regular basis. There are too many rumors, they are too dumb and lack too much actual content to be worth spending time on, more often than not. I’ll go after rumors from time to time, of course. Just because I’m taking it more easy doesn’t mean DigiTimes gets off the hook that easily!

And third, my post frequency has become very irregular. I tried to write something every day as year two started, but when there are no real news to write about and I can’t think of anything sensible to write otherwise, I have found it more useful to shut up and not post anything. Also, I have started writing a book, which has taken me away from the writing I’m used to doing here.

I have a whole bunch of things I’m working on, some which I will gladly share with you soon and some I will talk more about as the appropriate time approaches. What I know right now is that I will keep doing my stuff here on this site for at least one more year. I hate to make more plans than that and since I don’t know what the future holds, I think that’s the best. The one thing I’m dead sure about is that I’ll be very busy in the time between now and when this site has its third birthday.

There will be more of the same, and I’ll try to toss in some new stuff, things I haven’t really tried before, from time to time. It’s still me, doing it for fun, although perhaps with more righteous indignation than before. Just for kicks, as always.

The Minimalists | Let’s Trade: Our Free Book for Your Review

The Minimalists | Let’s Trade: Our Free Book for Your Review:
zenhabits:
