If 5 Pointz in Long Island City was called "Graffiti Mecca", the Bushwick and East Williamsburg areas of Brooklyn in 2014 should be called "Street Art Heaven". Now that 5 Pointz has been closed, the best place in NYC to see street art and graffiti is definitely Bushwick and East Williamsburg. World famous street artists have come here to paint. See below the names of some of the street artists tagged in this video, if your artist name was missed, please comment and I will add it.

I have permission from the artist to use the music in this video. Music by EUR.

Street art is becoming more and more a mass phenomenon. The movement that was once underground and completely snubbed by the art world today is at it's peak of popularity. The unknown street artists have become celebrities. Street art is now sold and exposed all over the world and is being called the artistic movement of the twenty-first century.

A masked artist makes a sticky issue out of radiation in Japan with protest street art.

Full story:

This man's stickers are one of the few visual signs of the Fukushima nuclear disaster.

Known only as "281 Anti-nuke", he has covered Tokyo streets in stencils depicting prime ministers as vampires and children shielding from radioactive rain.

He says that he aims to remind people of the reality of radiation and that revealing his identity will only distract people from his message.

The Fukushima nuclear disaster and its subsequent handling by plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co (Tepco) prompted wide-spread anti-nuclear sentiment and public protests in Japan.

The street artist says the disaster gave his art meaning.

Many of 281's designs depict children threatened by nuclear power, with the three-pronged atomic symbol taking the place of flower petals, a biscuit, or an inflatable ring.

281 has also branched beyond the nuclear issue to tackle other topics such as the upcoming consumption tax hike or Japan's bid for the 2020 Olympics.

281 says he wants his art to be a signpost for people to be aware of what's happening—and if it can make people stop and think, then he is happy.

He is a rare specimen in a country where graffiti writers face heavy legal penalties and strong social disapproval, and where netizens have called for his arrest.

Book shop owner Keisuke Narita re-sells some of 281's stickers and says many people still have an interest in what the stickers mean.

Narita says the earthquake and nuclear disaster has made more people willing to look at society and find things they disagree with.

The most politically sensitive stickers have the shortest half-life, lasting less than the average three days it takes for his stickers to be torn down.

Although he sees many Japanese people taking photos and uploading them to blogs and Twitter, 281 admits that most of his fans are not in Japan, where he wants to have the biggest impact.

Ernest Zacharevic's street art had been erased.

The controversial mural by Ernest Zacharevic was erased off with white paint by the Johor Bahru City Council workers. The newly-added Lego policeman that was to 'save' it did not materialized.

A picture of a policeman was added next to Ernest Zacharevic 's street art of a girl and a robber the night before. In the morning and lunch time, many came and took pictures of these 3 characters. Many expressed positively towards these pictures. By 4pm, these pictures were gone.....

Ernest Zacharevic, a Lithuanian-born, is an internationally-acclaimed street artist. His street arts in the forms of murals are well recognized and accepted in Penang.

Banksy Strikes Again! Street Artist Sells Art on the Street!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XX3RuLNcCdwendofvid
[starttext]
The street artist who goes by the name "Banksy" pulled an unusual stunt on Saturday, October 12, 2013, arranging for an older gentleman to act as proprietor at a stand selling the artist's work from a temporary sidewalk stand beside Central Park in New York City. In over seven hours hundreds of people walked by the display of extraordinarily valuable art, but only seven pieces were sold.

What does this episode say about art and commerce, notoriety and perception, and the judgments we make based on limited information about the world around us?

The panel discusses all this and what they would do if they happened to be the lucky buyers of Banksy's work in this segment of The Point.

Street Art Transforms Slums In Brazil

SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/Oc61Hj

THE slums of Brazil are notorious for crime, poverty and generally being rundown. But two artists are helping transform these areas - with a lick of paint. Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn are the driving force behind the 'Favela Painting' project. And with the World Cup and Olympics both on the horizon, they believe this could be the perfect cost-effective initiative to improve the image of Rio's slums - where one in five of the population live. Their latest Brazilian project in Rio de Janeiro's Santa Marta favela involved more than 20 youths.

Videographer / Director: Favela Painting
Producer: John Balson
Editor: Ian Philips
