/><br />By The Associated Press<br /><br />DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit elementary school teacher is accused of pawning one of the district's laptop computers for $60.<br /><br />The district says the teacher has been suspended without pay while the case is being investigated.<br /><br />Investigators were told Tuesday the Dell laptop was removed from the school on Nov. 21 and taken to a pawn shop. The district says the teacher admitted to needing cash to repair a tire on a personal vehicle and planned to get the computer back after raising enough for the pawn fee.<br /><br />More than 500 district computers have been stolen over the past six months.<br /><br />The cash-strapped district has been aggressive since March in weeding out theft and corruption.<br /><br />Copyright Associated Press, Copyright 2009 The Associated Press.
