Child Passenger Safety Week is September 19-25 – and if you are the parent of a young child, it is the perfect time for you to revisit car seat safety. Knowing when to switch your child from an infant seat, to a convertible seat, to a booster seat can be confusing. Find more info about child passenger safety here.

Speaking of booster seats, many states now require that kids be in a booster, and CHOP (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia) Research has shown that the using a belt-positioning booster seats reduces the risk of injury to children by nearly 60 percent compared to the use of seat belts alone.

Recently I was given the opportunity to review the (new this year!) Chicco KeyFit Strada Booster Seat. We had just moved our 4.5 year old into a booster about a month prior to receiving the Chicco Strada, and I was excited to compare the 2 seats. The seat that we purchased was a $40 basic model that we picked up at Target, and while it does the job we have found the Chicco Strada to be more comfortable and better made overall.

Some features of the Chicco KeyFit Strada include:

• Easy to install and use
• Made for kids ages 4-10, 38″-57″ tall and 33-100 pounds
• Triple zone side-impact protection (extra padded)
• Height and Width are both adjustable
• Fabric Cover is removable and machine washable
• Converts to backless booster for kids 40-100 lbs

As I mentioned, we feel that the Chicco KeyFit Strada is better made than the cheaper booster we had purchased previously. If I had to choose my favorite feature it would be that the seat adjusts to the size of your child. I love that the seat belt is held back by the orange “clip” (seen in the picture above), so that my daughter no longer complains about her neck being sore from the belt. An added plus is that she can comfortably sleep in this seat because of the padded headrest. The Chicco KeyFit Strada was named an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety “Best Bet” as well.
