Kings

I caught the premier of the new show Kings on NBC.

I'm not someone who watches a lot of television these days. I haven't gotten into a show in a long time. Heroes and Lost never did it for me. I'm told I should watch Battlestar Galactica, but I haven't. The Shield was an interesting show, but not one that was "go out of your way to watch" for me.

I'm not convinced that Kings is the show to stop this trend.

It got a bit heavy-handed in the storytelling at times (or as I've heard it called, "anvilicious"). The acting and dialog got a little hammy and over-the-top theatrical. The show is not without faults, certainly. However, I'm pretty forgiving of all this as a fan of Star Trek, the show best known for heavy-handed storytelling and hammy acting.

The two hour premier was overall an enjoyable experience. I can get into the political drama of it all. Hell, I even ENJOY the fanciful and pork-filled dialog. I love the clever turns of a phrase, the eloquence in the speech. You don't see this sort of show very often. That it is based on the biblical story of David and Saul is interesting in and of itself for those of us who know how that played out.

I'm just not sure I trust the source. Kings is created by the same people who brought us Heroes, and all I hear is that that show has gone to hell. Plus, based on some feedback I've read, the general audience is hating on this show pretty badly. It will probably be cancelled in a month.

This show has potential. I'll try to catch the next few weeks and see if it's worth really delving into.

Jaybird may have apathy, but my lack of updates have a different reason behind them.

I work full time, which isn't really an issue. I also take 10 credits this semester. This shouldn't be a lot, but these classes are killing my free time. 2 lab reports a week, papers, tests, quizzes, it is getting crazy.

I have stuff I'd like to write up and post, but I have no time at the moment. Hopefully there is a break in the action in about 2 weeks.

The Patriots

I've never been much of a Patriots fan, nor hate I been a Patriots hater. They've just been a team that I had respect for. I mean, they have no players I hate or like, so I don't care what they do.

Now Tom Brady is out for the season. The Patriots are considering their options. Word is that they brought in Tim Rattay and Chris Simms (the most overhyped 3rd round draft pick ever). Other reports claim they are confident in Matt Cassel.

I say they go find Vinnie Testaverde.

Or Doug Flutie.

If they do this, I will cheer for them all year.

Where did that come from?

Some of you may be wondering about how I came to have this screen name. I'm not sure I've ever told the story. I figure I'll tell it here now.

This must have been 8 or 9 years ago. Pro wrestling was in a golden age, with WCW and WWF battling it out on Monday nights. It was at the height of it's popularity. Wrestling was so popular that a local sports radio station started a weekly wrestling talk show. The Power Hour was born. It was like a sports talk show, with people calling in with questions and comments about wrestling.

A few weeks in, the show started to have the callers have wrestling names. There was "The Element," "The Driver," and a few others that I don't quite remember. Well, I called in, and they asked who it was.

Thinking fast, I remembered a joke my dad had made a few days prior, about engaging in some "street pharmacy" with all the prescriptions he had to deliver. So, I thought for a minute, and said "Well, I'm the Street Pharmacist."

It got some howling laughter out of the hosts. They loved it. From then on, I was a fixture of the show week in and week out. I was even in the commercial they put together.

Everyone was getting a kick out of the moniker, so I decided to make it my screen name online. But there was a problem. Back then, most email accounts and forums only let you have 13 characters in your name. Without a space, I was 1 character over. I considered other spellings. StreetFarmacist and StrEtPharmacist both looked ridiculous to me, so I settled on StretPharmacist. I misspelling, but one out of necessity.

So now, that is just my usual name on all this crap. The End.
