String Art Fun Cross 1 Pattern

String Art Fun customer Angela has sent us some photographs of string art cross her 10 year old son made using the String Art Fun Value Pack No. 3: Religious Patterns.

The picture above is of Cross 1. The baseboard is a wood plaque they purchased from USA craft store Hobby Lobby. It resembles a slice cut through a log with the bark in place. The string art cross is going to be a Christmas present for Angela’s father and I am sure he will treasure it.

The pictures below are of Cross 2 and Girl praying. Angela described the process for us; “He nails the pattern, puts a claw hangar on the back, spray paints everything, and then strings the project when it is dried. The blue cross he used a variegated blue thread and did a layered painting job of white and light blue paint.”

Windmill pattern added at String Art Fun website

A windmill string art pattern has been added to the String Art Fun website. The pattern can be worked in silver string, thread, wool or thin wire on a black background.

The pattern size is approximately 300 mm x 210 mm (12 x 8½ inches). It is delivered by download to your computer in PDF format.

The pattern is in the general section of the String Art Fun website under Windmill.

Christmas maths projects at the String Art Fun website

Primary school teachers looking for a fun maths project for the Christmas term will find it at the String Art Fun website. The string art math projects are suitable for Key Stage 2 Maths (8 – 11 years old). They include numbered patterns and maths question sheets.

Designs can be created with pencils and ruler or drawing pins (thumb tacks) and string / wool.

There is a free maths project featuring a Christmas pudding with holly.

There are also some maths projects to buy featuring a bauble, bells, candles, a crown, a star and a fir tree. The projects are available individually and in a value pack of six designs.

Cross on a hill pattern added at Stitching Cards

The cross on a hill pattern was originally designed for the String Art Fun website. Following customer requests it has been converted into a stitching card pattern and added to the Stitching Cards collection. Stitching cards are scaled down versions of string art with holes punched in the card and the design stitched with a needle. The cross on a hill pattern size is 152 mm x 104 mm (6 x 4½ inches). Religious patterns added at the String Art Fun website

Six new string art patterns have been added to the String Art Fun website. The religious patterns are a plain cross, a decorative cross, a cross on a hill, a dove, a girl praying and an angel.

The pattern size is approximately 300 mm x 210 mm (12 x 8½ inches). They are delivered by download to your computer in PDF format.

The patterns are available individually and in a value pack of six patterns for the price of five individual patterns.

The patterns are in the Religious section of the String Art Fun website.

Using string art to teach maths in a fun way

An article on the String Art Fun website describes a way of using string art as a fun way to teach math to second or the third grade pupils. The children are given a sheet of multiplication sums to solve. Once they have the answers they can use them to create a geometric design. The design can be either drawn on a supplied template, stitched on card using thread and an embroidery needle or created on a board with nails and string.

A number of interesting string art videos have been posted on You Tube. I thought it would be useful to bring together my favourites in this post. The videos range from a professionally produced series on how to do string art to an insight into producing string art pictures to decorate an apartment. I hope that you find them useful.

An introduction to string art

The second video clip from Melody Mann shows how to make a simple circle design on paper.

Rubberstamping Diva gives a demonstration of Spirelli which she describes as a Dutch form of string art. She shows how to use a scallop circle punch and thread to create beautiful Spirelli accents for cards or scrapbook pages.

Free sea shell pattern at the String Art Fun web site

A sea shell string art pattern has been added to the free pattern section of the String Art Fun web site. If you are a string art enthusiast or would like to have a go at string art this is an easy pattern to start with.

I designed the pattern following a request from string art enthusiast Linda, who said “I am a teacher in a low-income area and would really like to have my students create a nautilus shell using string art”.

Candle pattern now available for prick and stitch card making

The free string art candle pattern on this web site has now been converted to a prick and stitch greetings card pattern. This follows a number of requests from card making enthusiasts who would like to try it as a greetings card. It is available from my Prick And Stitch Is My Craft blog.

The illustration shows the card stitched using Kreinik 1 ply polyester metallic cord. The base is antique gold, the candle red and the flame gold.

Prick and stitch card making has much in common with string art. Instead of nails and string it uses needle and thread on a much smaller greetings card size format.
