Commencement Speaker Nominations

To nominate a student (graduating in December 2011) to be the commencement speaker:

Complete the questions and information below and email to senate@uwsuper.edu by 4:30pm, Friday, November 4, 2011 with the subject line: "Commencement Speaker Nomination."
Ask the nominee if they are willing to speak at commencement.

Nominations will be accepted from students, faculty, and staff. Students nominated can be both undergraduate and graduate level students.

The selection committee will invite in the top nominees for a short interview at which time they will be asked to present an outline of their intended speech. Selection of the candidates is based on both the content of the nomination and the interview process with the candidate. One student speaker will be chosen.

How has the student demonstrated his/her academic commitment?
What leadership experiences has the student participated in?
In what ways has the student inspired others?
In what ways has the student embodied the liberal arts mission?

NOTE: The student speaker for commencement will be selected based on how well they meet the following criteria:

The nominee demonstrates academic commitment.
This nominee has participated in leadership experiences.
This nominee has inspired others.
This nominee embodies and advances the liberal arts mission and represents the university in the spirit of this mission.
The content of nominee's speech is appropriate for the audience and purpose of commencement.
In the interview the nominee demonstrated confidence in the delivery of the speech.

Information used by the student commencement selection committee will include: the nomination(s) from faculty, staff, and/or students, the student nominee's interview, and the nominee's outline of their anticipated speech.

Special Elections 2011

Seats currently available for elections are:

Two (2) Senators for Departments of Accounting; Finance and Economics; Business Administration; Elementary Education
Two (2) Senators for Departments of Communicating Arts; Music; Visual Arts; Languages and Literature
One (1) Senator for Departments of Politics; Law and Justice; Social Inquiry Human Behavior and Diversity
One (1) Student-at-Large Senator (representing the student body as a whole)

Eligable students must have a cumulative grade point average no lower than a 2.0. A student with no academic history at UW-Superior shall be presumed to have a 2.0.

Students must collect 35 or more nomination signatures from the student body to appear on the ballot.

Hard copies of Election Packets are available at the YU Information Desk.

Election Packets are due on Sept 27 by 4pm at the YU Information Desk.
