It is not TRUE - It is possible that you have heard this exact line from one of your teachers when you took a language in school. Or you may have heard it from one of your friends who is living in a foreign country and making little headway in the native tongue. Fortunately, it's a myth. Today’s technology has made it possible for anyone who want to learn a new language whether old or young to learn it fast enough.

Error 2) It is much easier to learn a new language as a child.

It is a LIE... It is a familiar story and it goes something like this: you only have a limited window during your childhood to learn languages. During this time your child brain is much more capable of absorbing linguistic information. If you don't learn a second language then, your circuitry shuts off and this window slams shut on all of your aspirations to be bilingual. Or at least you are condemned to a much more difficult path should you even attempt to try as an adult.

The reason is that: I am no longer a child; therefore I will not be able to learn another language easily or at all. But try this logic on for size instead: this idea is a myth, therefore it's false! Again, technology has made it possible for even an old man or woman to learn a new language like a child at their own pace.

The following are some principles that must be embedded in the goals; they are Clarity, Challenge, Commitment, Feedback and Task complexity. I will like us to study those principles in detail to help us learn a new language well.

Clarity

Clear goals are measurable and unambiguous. When a goal is clear and specific, with a definite time set for completion, there is less misunderstanding about what behaviours will be rewarded. You know what's expected, and you can use the specific result as a source of motivation. When a goal is vague – or when it's expressed as a general instruction, like "Take initiative" – it has limited motivational value.

When we apply the above principle to language learning, it means we have to determine that in a day, we set aside “30 minutes to learn the new language” example spanish language. This goal is clear, specific, measurable and time-bound.

Challenge

One of the most important characteristics of goals is the level of challenge. People are often motivated by achievement, and they'll judge a goal based on the significance of the anticipated accomplishment. Studying German Language is like studying any romance languages like French, Spanish or English and the following tips is to help language students to pass their German Language class successfully.

Write the words or phrases in one color. Translate them in another.

Better yet, write different types of words in different colors. For example, in German, nouns are masculine, feminine, or neuter. Write (on white index cards, one word per card) in blue for masculine, pink for feminine, purple for neuter, green for verbs, and orange for everything else (prepositions etc.). Then when you have to recall the word for a test, you automatically know what gender it is - that's important!!

For verbs, try writing all the different tenses on the side of the card where you've written the English definition. That way, you have to recall the forms of the verb as well as the definition.

Make sure you have all of your supplies. It is hard to do pg. 65 #1-4 if you don't have your book.

Use your new foreign language as a code whenever you are around friends who are in the class. Help teach some to those who are not. Look up the words you need for your conversations -- a much better vocab selection than any book will offer!

Learn a new word. Look at dictionary.com's "Word of the Day." Use the word several times during the day.

Understand something new. Watch movies, read or look at pieces of art in genres or styles that would normally be of no interest. Read more about them.

Force yourself to approach problems in different ways. Perform tasks with your left hand that you would normally do with your right. This forms new neural pathways and diversifies your reasoning capacity.

Look at the opposite. Work backwards from the solution. Using a sock pattern, knit from the cuff to the toe instead of from the toe to the cuff as the pattern suggests.

Studying a new language that is not your native or official language may seem a bit intimidating at first. With a bit of brain power, determination and technology, it can be fun. Best of all, it can be totally free! We will look at five (5) Steps in teaching yourself a new language.

Step 1 - Be proficient at your own language first

It is very important that you know and understand the "parts of speech". If you can identify what part of speech a word is, you will be able to understand and practice the syntax (word order, which is different from English in most cases) of another language.

Step 2 - Decide on a Language

Decide what language you really want to learn to speak, example is it French or Chinese or German?

Step 3 - Think about how you will use the language

Do you want to speak fluently? Do you just need some general phrases or do you need a strong reading knowledge of a particular language for graduate school?

Step 4 - Where to get the right language programme

If you are someone who needs the books and tapes on hand, go online first and search area bookstores. Check to see if they have the language you want to learn. Decide if you need just a book or whether a book with tapes would be more appropriate. Most often, it helps to hear the language being spoken by a native. A good audio program (no book needed) is needed. You will repeat a lot and progress slowly, but you will remember everything.

Step 5 - Time Table for Language Learning

Allocate sometime to learn the language at least 15 to 30 minutes a day. This will help you to progress in the new language steadily.
