Seikilos epitaph

2016-05-29T06:38:00.002-07:00

The Seikilos epitaph is the oldest surviving complete musical composition.

"As long as you live, shine,
Let nothing grieve you beyond measure.
For your life is short,
and time will claim its toll."

The Seikilos epitaph’s survival in one piece, as it were, no doubt owes something to its shortness. The Greeks could carve the entire thing onto the surface of a tombstone, exactly the medium on which the modern world rediscovered it in 1885 near Aidin, Turkey.

The surface also bears an explanatory inscription about — and written in the voice of — the artifact itself: “I am a tombstone, an image. Seikilos placed me here as an everlasting sign of deathless remembrance.”

Kim Jong Il dead

2011-12-19T10:22:00.001-08:00

You've probably heard that North Korea's leader Kim Jong-il died from a heart attack. And now his son Kim Jong-un is described as the "Great Successor". Needless to say it's been a bad year for dictators. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how things turns out whit his son.

Look at the reaction to his death. Perhaps the weeping is mandatory?

Christopher Hitchens dead

2011-12-16T05:42:00.001-08:00

The writer and critic Christopher Hitchens passed away yesterday (December 15th) at the age of 62. He was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2010. He's been a columnist for Vanity Fair since 1992 and written "God is not great: How religion poisons everything." and his own memoir "Hitch-22".

I found Hitchens to be an inspiring person that had a lot of interesting ideas and thoughts and I'm really sad that he passed away. Haven't read his memoir but think that I'm going to buy it and read it when I got the time. Let me know what you think of his death in the comments.

Symphony of Science

Neil deGrasse Tyson

Don't know what you think about science but I think it's pretty cool. Melodysheep who produces the Symphony of Science songs (You might've seen A Glorious Dawn on youtube) just released a new one (actually ~3 weeks ago about but still) called 'Onward to the edge' featuring Neil deGrasse Tyson among others. If you don't know who Neil deGrasse Tyson is you might recognize him from this meme.

Anyway if you haven't seen it I think it's at least worth to check out since they're pretty cool and well made.

Mafia scenes

2011-08-19T05:30:00.001-07:00

If there's anything good the mafia have done for the society its probably creating a damn good overused film genre. Here are my top 3 mafia film scenes ever made. Do you agree with the list or got any other suggestions?

3. Goodfellas - "funny how?"

2. The Godfather - opening scene

1. True Romance - Sicilians

Pink Floyd

2011-06-23T17:34:00.001-07:00

Wow looks like a lot of people here likes pink floyd, myself Im a fan of their music. My favourite album is probably 'The dark side of the moon' but 'Wish you were here' and 'The wall' are really good too. But I also enjoy some of their other albums like Meddle, Animals or A momentary lapse of reason.
How about you guys? what's your thoughts about pink floyd? like them? favourite album? If you haven't listened to them or just don't like this kind of music, what do you like?

btw, true romance was awesome watch it if you haven't.

True Romance

2011-06-22T15:15:00.001-07:00

Tought it was time to update the blog so here we go, a little baked right now and just listening to some Pink Floyd but that shouldn't be a problem. Later I'll probably watch a film a friend just recommended called 'True romance' and apparently the script was written by Quentin Tarantino (yeah I know, cool fact). Seen it? Thoughts?
So might update with my thoughts on that movie later in the mean time.... is there any more chill song that 'Whish you were here' by Pink Floyd? And how would've The band looked (sounded?) if Syd hadn't quit?

Stand-up

2011-06-17T13:29:00.001-07:00

Recently Jerry Seinfeld came to town to do a stand-up show and I'm not really sure if he's any good at it, the only stand-up from him I've seen are the short clips that they show on the show 'Seinfeld' and their kinda ok imo. Although I do think that the TV show is really good.
However when I do watch stand-up I usually find Bill Hicks, Dave Chappelle and George Carlin to be the funniest. Who do you think is the best stand-up comedian(s) and what do you think about Seinfeld?

MBTI

2011-06-14T10:10:00.001-07:00

Recently I came across a test called Myers-Briggs Type Indicator which apparently is one if not the most used personality test in the world, you can read more about it at wikipedia. Basically there are four different dichotomies which can create 16 different "types".

Extraversion (E) -	(I) Introversion
Sensing (S) -	(N) Intuition
Thinking (T) -	(F) Feeling
Judgment (J) -	(P) Perception

So you got either E or I, S or N, T or F and J or P. You can take the test at mypersonality.info. So which type are you and did you find it to be accurate or not?
